[Q] 4K Video Streaming Services - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone have suggestions for 4K Video streaming services or purchased downloads on this device? I've read that PlayStation Video has 4K content but believe it's only for TV's.

Not until Android supports it, which is when Marshmallow arrives and services like Netflix updates their apps to make 4k viewable on mobile devices (hopefully).

Anybody try this:

I don't have Z5 premium yet so I can't try it myself.

Can the FTV2 output native 4k on Kodi

I'm considering getting the AFTV2 for 4k. I have a 4k TV and was wondering if the 4k content will play with 4k resolution or should I stick with the AFTV1?
I'm not sure there is any 4K content on Kodi ?

You can google bigbuckbunny 4k. there are two things to test.
if kodi can play 4k and then second does it output native 4k resolution.
Can someone help who already know. I'm contemplating getting the nvidia shield.

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking here, the 4K content you have directed me to is just on Youtube which your Sony tv should be able to play in 4K from the Youtube app on the tv, you were asking if Kodi can output 4K on the Fire tv. If you point me in the direction of any 4K content on Kodi I will try it for you.

Gauduchon. Any 4k Content available on the web can be a test factor. I don't think we are allowed to post live links for media. Question is.
1. While using Kodi, does the aftv2 output 4k
2. While using kodi, if we play a 4k file can kodi handle it with the new kodi as when I tried a sample file it stuttered. but then that was one of the only file i had.
It doesn't appear that any old app can output 4K. http://www.aftvnews.com/4k-video-output-not-available-to-fire-tv-app-developers/
Aftvnews this is precisely the answer I was looking for. I've gotten the nvidia shield. Do you know if that will work ?

Enable 4K 2160p mode for Kodi

Hello, I have just purchased a new Amazon Fire TV 4K box with the intention of running Kodi in 4K but I have only just realised that 4K mode is only enabled when watching 4K content in Netflix or Amazon Prime Video. Is there any way at all that I can force enable the 4K resolution at all times?
Thanks

With Kodi no you can't, but MrMc has 4k support but no addon support, and SPMC has a test build out now with 4k support. Hope this helps.
Even if you enable 4k resolution you won't get it unless it's 4k content... If have addon to watch 4k content in kodi it will automatically display it.

4K Content?

I know with android 6.0 google added an official API for apps to read and directly access 4K resolutions on devices like the Z5P that pretend to have 1080p displays. Does anything actually use that and run in 4K? YouTube, Netflix, games? Looking to pick this guy up but if I can’t use any 4K content it’s a hard sell (I know I can force always on 4K but I would rather not).

HD Streaming On Netflix/Amazon Prime?

Hi,
Since our device comes with Widevine L1 and HDR10 support, I would like to know if it supports HD streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime? Now before you jump on saying I am an idiot for asking such question as the device ships with WVL1, let me tell you that having Widevine L1 is not the only criteria to be able to stream HD contents on Netflix and Amazon Prime. They have their own set of criteria and every device has to be whitelisted from their end in order to support HD streaming. This is the reason my last device Poco F1 can not stream HD contents as Netflix is not ready to whitelist the device. So I would like to know what is the case with Realme X as I am thinking of getting Netflix. But I would like to make sure HD streaming is working before I invest on the HD plan. If anyone here uses Netflix HD plan on Realme X, can you please check and let me know if HD streaming is working (a screenshot would be better). If you don't have Netflix or Amazon Prime, I would request you to kindly ignore the post as I am not looking for answers based on assumption.
Thank you!!

Yeah right. The device also needs to be whitelisted by netflix and amazon themselves for hd playback other than having L1 certification in the first place. I confirm the support of hd playback on both the apps but hdr is not supported. As you know realme x supports hdr content too(our device only supports hdr, not hdr 10), play some hdr stuff on YouTube and you would know the difference but hdr on netflix and amazon are not supported. Now in netflix app it ll clearly show hdr written if the show supports it and the device supports it as well ( I cannot include ss of the netflix app as i don't currently have an active plan) but I don't think same is the case with amazon prime because (ss attached) below you ll see hdr is mentioned for the show but i don't think it plays it in hdr. Also (ss attached) you ll see my rant over colour os in a post where i talk about the same and the inclusion of osie vision effect as a feature in place of hdr support which doesn't actually work.

Hey thanks man for confirming. Having HD is fine with me. It may not be as good as HDR, but it's way better than SD. Now that you have confirmed HD (not talking about HDR) streaming is working on Netflix and Prime, I am renewing my subscription.
Thank you again for taking the time to answer.

You can always like my comment if I was helpful. Also watching content on this device would be a breeze. I actually used my laptop to watch my content because of the bigger screen but after buying this phone I use this rather. Also did a little research and netflix and amazon support hdr content on only a couple of flagship devices like Galaxy note 10 plus and stuff, those who support hdr10 so having hdr doesn't make a difference. Anyways enjoy.

Youtube stuck at 720p FireTv Stick (Tank)

Hi, I realized that YouTube videos in many cases do not upload of 720p, particularly those that are at [email protected]
I already tried to sideload the youtube app from android tv and it works perfect all videos are at 1080p, except that it is not possible to login due to the lack of google services
the other alternative was to use smart youtube tv app, which also works but has some bugs and crashes especially in live broadcasts
Has anyone managed to fix this? in the stock app or log in on youtube tv through google account?
thanks for the help!
