Had to buy a Type A adapter to root today ..
Any suggestions on a rom that included Tops off the rest with Most mods baked in and tweaks ...such as
Unlim Tethering... color keyboard... Good battery life camera mod possibly included ... rather then me spending a whole day flashing testing and reading change logs.

I recommend Chroma or Pure Nexus Project with EX- or francokernel if you like AOSP (Layers)
if not you can try the Nightly-Version of CM.
Both work pretty fine with OpenGapps or SlimGapps
purenexus + EX kernel, since both are based on stock rom/kernel and have several added features/customizations.
purenexus Gapps are based on Banks, so pretty minimal which I like.
purenexus also has CM Theme Engine support now too, which rocks.
I am currently enjoying Ubermallow and Phasma kernel (by @DespairFactor). You will need to flash your own gapps package, just an FYI.
May I humbly suggest you don't waste your time rooting the phone and just go to the flashing part.

Oh lmao. I read it as a suggestion to flash a ROM and not root afterwards (although most ROMs have root built in anyways, now). Whoops.
EDIT: Back on Topic. I suggest Ubermallow and Phasma kernel. It's been, by far, my smoothest and best experience on this phone so far. Good customization without being overbearing and extremely optimized for battery life and fluidity.

I know I need a Kernel that supports overclocking before I use something like CPUBoost... which one can anyone recommend that is stable and would allow this.
Sorry this is my first time posting in this forum... was using the Eris up until yesterday.

It's all preference, depends on if you are using an AOSP rom or Sense rom. Try them out for yourself and then decide, everyone gets different results.
I'm just throwing this out there we can only overclock our phones a wee bit and it for me at least destroys battery life.

honestly you could probably get away with just installing some of the AOSP kernels floating around the Dev threads...I LOVE invisibleks line of kernels, #28 is a champion for me...but I believe the new Tiamat line of kernels is concentrating on aggressive undervolting...I would give them a try
Might try that... it's weird, coming from an Eris, there's definitely a more professional way about this forum. BUT (big but).... the ROM's seems to be overall more incomplete and I am worried about losing somee functionality. So installing a Kernel would be my best bet I guess.... being I would retain all the functionality of the stock ROM.
Hope I make sense.
Oh the other thing is... when a kernel is AOSP compatible, that means stock ROM also right?

I am currently running wanam's 1.1 version of his stock-based ROM. Been running it for 2 days and has felt much smoother and battery friendly than stock! I ran CM !0 for a few days but I used a Mac and MTP doesn't work so its a bit of a deal breaker for me, but in all fairness its Extremely stable to be an Alpha build. My first android phone was the G1 and then on to the Nexus One so i'm a sucker for AOSP based android roms and for Cyanogen Mod in general so ill be running it when the MTP gets sorted out on my Mac.
I tried Wanams rom, I remember him from my SGS2, Hes a great Dev & its really stable as well.
The best all around so far for me is AndroidUser00110001's Rom linked below. I've found the wifi disconnect problem that i was having with the other TW Roms is gone and it has had the best over all balance of performance and stability.

When it comes to battery life there literally is none better, he did a fantastic job with his ROM. It takes a performance hit at times but its to be expected.

I have looked at it, and the one I have installed on my phone even has the Aurora designation I intend to use if I publicly release a rom for this phone, so we will see.
Also, son of a *****, godaddy didn't auto-renew my domain. Guess I will need a new one.

Definitely AOKP. Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean versions are awesome. I've yet to find any bugs that keep it from being a daily driver. In fact I've found none. But I haven't used it that in depth much, we shall see.
But I put my vote in for AOKP. By far the best, and I only flash for AOSP based ROMs anyways. :good:

What I (personally) look for in a ROM is: stability, good battery time, performance/benchmarks, features, look & feel and more. Thank you very much and have a happy new year!
tldr; What is the best (US) Galaxy S 3 ROM based on stability, battery time, performance, features and look/feel.
That's a tough question as everyone has personal opinions of different Roms and each device will also handle each ROM different in my opinion this will only turn into a this ROM is better than that ROM thread and that is not good

It depends on what you are looking for from a ROM.
If you want stable stay with stock TW
If you want latest and greatest chose AOSP/AOPK Rom.
Both are now on 4.2 which is much smoother and faster than TW.
No bloatware of course. Better battery life with custom kernels etc...
CM 10.1 is great
Tasks AOPK is better IMHO at the moment. CM is updated nightly which is a plus it minus... Task updates his ROM less frequently but it's a lot more stable at the moment...
Which ever ROM you choose if not stock READ entire OP make sure you follow it to the T and then read all posts as they tell you all about bugs and workarounds
Good luck

I always follow the instructions to a T, I want the best experience possible out of anything I flash ever. You mentioned better battery life with the Kernels, any experience with ktoonsez's or Task's kernel? Could you give me some estimate figures (example: 5 hours battery on stock, 8 on ktoonsez)
Running Illusion (CM based Rom) with the latest KT747 and no issues here, so I disagree with the guy above. I prefer stock android which is why I like roms like Task's AOKP and CM10.1 the most. It all comes down to preference.
Running Tasks AOKP 4.1.2. With lean kernel. Never crashes never any problems. Most stable custom ROM I've ever used. 4 hours screen on time, best battery I've ever gotten.
Just waiting for some updates on 4.2 then I will upgrade.

Thanks, orig dev I think was the only one I didn't click on.. Time is limited taking care of a 6month old..
This just ends up being a popularity thread.
I'm a huge AOKP/CM10 fan, but right now those ROM's don't have the one thing I need (USB-DAC) so I'm stuck with TouchWiz based ROM's.
I flashed Ultimatum ROM last week and have yet to have a single issue with it.
It's mostly stock with minor tweaks, so it SHOULD be a reliable ROM.
I then flashed a 23toggle mod with blue icons, so I at least have a good looking ROM also.
I find myself always restoring a debloated version of DG's m7 stock based rom with tasks kernel. I use rom toolbox as well to help tweak certain battery consuming apps. I usually lose 3-5% overnight on standby(7 hrs if I'm lucky and my kids let me). I think juice deffender helps me as well. Performance is pretty good but I'm a battery dork. The thread is probably back a couple pages now if you want to look at it. All of these dev's make great roms though. Try them all. Its called flashaholic and i'm a member.

I had the same question, but about the newer 4.2.1 roms. I want to upgrade, but i'm not sure which one will work best for me. Seems like Task and KTz joint is the most popular right now, but CM10 has been my daily. AS far as TW, I keep going back to Bacon Step with KTZ kernal becasue i use bluetooth alot and its my last TW backup. I want 4.2, but i need bluetooth to listen to my podcasts. What 4.2 rom has working bluetooth audio?

Just a little update if you'd still like to know:
I found PACman to be a little TOO feature filled. It feels like some of the things step on eachother's toes. Also I found some performance dips and bugs like if you press home your apps and widgets do not show up until you open and close your app page. Carbon runs decent with some hiccups. I used this here kernel to speed it up. Make sure you have your backups to restore if flashing the kernel doesn't work out for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2637838
I have actually found it to be faster with the kernel.
Only a few hiccups I'm looking to find ways to eliminate entirely. I'll give you an update if you decide to use it and would like to know more

Fast, Decent Battery Life, nightly builds, and not too many serious bugs (As few as possible), least likely to brick, simple to install.

Delete bloatware from /system (there are several threads on that) and install Apex launcher for a custom look.

If you're rooting, then first thing I would do is flash a custom kernel. I would recommend either Compulsion or ColonelX. After that, install Xposed and the GravityBox and Wanam modules. I've tweaked more things than I can possibly remember, but those would definitely be my starting points....

But once I saw I could keep all the Touchwiz features I liked, plus get a faster ROM, it was a no brainer (which would make me sad if I were a zombie).
