Any Tweaks recommended for performance? I have decided I want to stay stock, Gonna Odin back to stock and root again. Any Tweaks to tune it a little? I`m prob gonna install Xposed and a few S5 apps, but any speed improvement tweaks that might be good?
Thanks I`m not a noob, but I do know this post seems like one
Delete bloatware from /system (there are several threads on that) and install Apex launcher for a custom look.
Frank
If you're rooting, then first thing I would do is flash a custom kernel. I would recommend either Compulsion or ColonelX. After that, install Xposed and the GravityBox and Wanam modules. I've tweaked more things than I can possibly remember, but those would definitely be my starting points....

If you're worried about losing out on features by going with a custom ROM, there are plenty of ROMs out there that are fast and light, but let you keep all of the Touchwiz features. Hyperdrive for example.

Yeah, but i've found it to be very stable, which is more important in my opinion. I was stock for a while, which is unusual because I normally root and go custom immediately. But once I saw I could keep all the Touchwiz features I liked, plus get a faster ROM, it was a no brainer (which would make me sad if I were a zombie).

Not to be rude or anything but all one has to do is look at some of the popular ROMs in the development sections to get a pretty good idea. The popular ones tend to always be near the top, provide great documentation and support, and provide pictures and videos to get you a great idea of the experience. Just spend 30 minutes looking over the various options, and flash a few to see which one you want to stick with. Flashing ROMs is so easy nowadays that it really is just a matter of how much time you are willing to spend playing around with them. I'm waiting for Jellybean ROMs before I really make the jump and satisfied with the performance of stock (with Nova launcher) until those JB ROMs become pretty stable and can be used everyday.
You really can't go wrong with any rom currently out. I've tried them all out and they won't disappoint. I'm currently running Freeza's rom and though it's touchwiz based, he really changed it up.

Other great TW roms (in no specific order)
Strongsteve's Odexed Blue
Clark44's FreeGS3

For me they have all basically been the same in regards to battery life. At a minimum I can pull 16 hrs on battery with 4+ hrs of screen on time with each rom. I'm not really into playing games on my phone so that helps. However, battery life is really user dependent because we all use/set up our devices differently...so what may end up being good for me may not be the best battery life for someone else. Definitely give each one a try though and see which works best for you
I'm definitely going to try them all, but god damn are all TW roms almost 1gb in size? I thought sense roms with big @ half the size.

Not all of them but if they're full of addons, such as FreeGS3 by Clark, then it can get big. Freeza's rom is probably the smallest coming in at about 498MB

Devs should start making Bare Bone versions.Just out of Blazer 1.7 i removed over 40 uneded apk files! That slimed the rom by almost 200mb,but its still too large when cm is only 200mb.
Removing all this junk improves speed and battery life greatly.

No offense but a question like that is not going to get u an answer.. word has it all 4 main tw roms are basically running the same mods and it comes down to looks right now.. plus it kinda depends on your own set up..

I don't think that's necessarily true. I've seen a few people post that FreeGS3 is noticeably smoother and less laggy than Blazer. Not knocking Blazer since it may have some other features that people prefer.
For my previous phone (EVO 3D), I tried several Sense ROMs and there was a significance difference in performance among them. Is it such a stretch to assume that a similar variance would be present in custom TW ROMs?

Well I wouldn't know as I've only tried stock, freeza's fre3 and blue odex since coming over from the og epic.. I guess my "word has it" comment came from reading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29890564 <-- that
I guess my point is obviously people like all these roms, or they prob wouldn't always be the top four threads all day long...
It really depends on your own preferences as they all appear to be stable and running well..
Again my advice, pick one and flash it.. if u feel like trying something else then try that too.. If somethIng goes wrong restore your backvup.. again.. the beauty of xda.

I get your point but the beauty of XDA is also in the ability to solicit opinions to make an informed decision. I don't think my question was that out of line. It's not as open ended as simply asking what the "best" ROM is.
I've tried all the other ones and for some reason they're either too modded or have 1 or 2 bugs that bother me. I made one based off the stock LI2 rom, gutted everything out of it (except flipboard, dropbox, kies, and smemo), and added different mods from scratch.
If others want me to post it I will, just unsure if I'm ready to put it in the Dev section since I probably won't be updating it too frequently & I didn't want to clutter the forum with the same variation of the same base.
It has:
Google Now, different brightness settings, some build prop tweaks, all samsung & t-mobile crap removed, no extra added apps, stock theme, bravia mod, alt 5x5/5x6 launcher, only uses 360mb ram on first boot, + more.
might add 4 way reboot, beats audio, all other good stuff
+ I plan on applying these same mods when a stable ics rom drops.

uploading now guys, testing a build might update a few things before i release it's in the other forum!
Hey XDA
Ok Im new to rooting & I only haved rooted to the Wicked Rom as of late, didn't even try to go forward with their red/blue theme or bloat loader level 1 or 2 because theres no directions on even how to do it so w/e
Basically Im looking for a pretty basic stock mod either with ICS 4.0.4 or Jellybean. MY MAIN concern is all the stock functions that I should be able to use with the phone, (wifi calling all the way to motions).:good: 2nd BATTERY LIFE  , 3rdly, all around FAST & SNAPPY Not too worried about the overral lay out because I can use nova or go launcher to my liking... & of course, ZERO BLOAT WARE
CLIFFS OF RECOMMENDED REQUIREMENTS:
CWM Flashable
ALL stock functions.
BATTERY LIFEEEEEE
Fast & Snappy response
ZERO bloatware.
Would greatly appreciate the help, I searched around but not one any1 wanted these specific layout of priorities.
Thnx in advance!
Cheers~

No problem man. Good luck! Be sure to back up, factory reset, wipe cache & dalvik when switching between ROMs. (Make a habit of it )
Flash to latest stock via Odin, root and install titanium backup and remove the bloat yourself.
Honestly I am very impressed with stock! (I am running CM10 though)
Experimenting with kernels would be good, though they may break functionality...
All of those stock features that are so cool (motions) are battery consuming... though I have had consistent good battery with this phone. Coming from EVO 4g with 3500 mah extended battery that didn't last much longer...

From my experiences I remember the meaning of the "CUSTOM" rom.
It's MUCH BETTER THAN stock ! Come one dude "Cyanogen", "MIUI" etc.
I felt the difference before and after on many phones.
With N2 everything has changed a bit.
I agree the stock rom are better now than most of custom roms here.
Example: Im using Stock Wanam Deodex Rom (almost out touch rom.) What I did I just maximum deblaoted it.
And this stock rom working MUCH more better and faster and smoother than many custom roms here. Example OMEGA. (No offence ! this is purely my opinion)
Why it happening ?
So many developers love to add 3 years old build prop lines. Too old tweaks also are here. Come one why using stuff from HTC ? WTF was that "Enabled GPU UI rendering"???? JellyB has it from birth that !
And Im fine with that ! But NO DIFFERENCE BRO! not smoother, not faster. Ok maybe benchs is better ? But no it's lower ! Windows animation lags more than on stock rom.
And is nothing to explain about. People will get pissed.(when you tell the truth) If you just got your first android device and you have no experiences (NO CLUE) with that you will say it's faster ! But when you coming from G1 and you got 2-N2. 2-GS3 than you will see the difference between before and after and is nothing to talk about it.
Samsung did sick job with the N2 JB firmware. It's been optimized up to normal and we filling that from ANY corner !
Stop implanting stupid lines like "scrolling catch disabled" if you say yourself that it does not work.
Only best regards

First ROM I read up on, so I have decided to try it out. So far so good.
I've success with most of them but the smoothest and best battery life for me have been with Lab Rats & MyRom using either stock kernel, Saber kernel, or Lean Kernel (current fav).
I think I might settle down and rest with MyRom as it is doing REALLY well right now.
I've used just about all of them and there all amazing, including international and cross carrier. My current setup that I have gotten comfortable with is darthstalker wuth compulsion kernel. Both rom and kernel have init.d support(this is a major + for me anyways) so I can use tweaks like int2extsd mod.

I am not picky. I have used all 900T versions. I like then all quite well, as they each have their own little flares. I flash between them quite often. Until wonder child kernel though, I couldn't boot Any sort of 0C kernel. I most commonly find myself using Darth stalker and Lab Rats as they play a little better with the WC kernel.
