HTC M8 will not charge and not start - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a M8 and yesterday I used an old non htc charger for a few minutes. I got a few messages telling me that the charger could not charge the phone. I unplugged it and I rebooted the phone, but it does not want to power up anymore... Power button + volume down does nothing. Power button + volume up brings the phone to life for 1-2 seconds, but it imediatly powers off after I get to see the white htc splash screen. When I plug in the htc charger there is no led indicating it is charging... Besides the fact that it powers up for 1-2 seconds when power + volume up and then powers off, the phone is dead. I kept it plugged in the whole night, but this morning nothing changed... The pc does not see the phone, adb is waiting for device. The only noticeable thing is the sound that windows makes when I connect it to an usb port as if it sees a usb device.
Any chance to bring it back to life?

Nevermind... I have replaced the motherboard. It seems this was the only way to bring it back to life.

[Q] rooted m8 non responsive no lights no vibration black screen

I have an HTC One M8 AT&T unlocked, rooted, ARHD 34 installed.
The other day I used the phone until about 9 AM and when I pulled it out of my pocket the very next time there was no response. I tried Volume Up + Power, Volume Down + Power, and Volume UP +Volume Down + Power no response. Tried all three again with power cord attached and still nothing. finally after about the 20th try with power attached I got a charge light to light for about a full second but then it goes off immediately. This now happens every time I plug it in. sometimes it's a full second of the charge light others it just flashes on then off immediately.
I need some help, because I am not sure what is happening and I don't want to just tear it apart and throw parts at it. I am thinking the battery took a crap on me but I need someone else to confirm my suspicions.

Have you tried using a different charger? You can also check if there is a damage on you charging port.
Try using your charger to a different phone and if it works then there is a problem with your charging port. You may want try plugging in the charger to your M8 and try to move the cable near the port. If it works, then you must charge your phone in a specific position. The best thing to do is call HTC to process RMA.

need help - M9 won't boot at all after a power down. Black screen of death.(Strange)

Need help /advice please
Im on M9 rooted,s-off, viperone 3.5 rom, supercid, firmware 2.10.401.xx and twrp 3.0.0.0. all fine beforehand.
I was planning to do firmware upgrade, so thought i better check the laptop connections first.( So I haven't done any firmware upgrade or rom change yet.) but..
heres what happened
(note - all was working fine last week, recovery, adb, reboot function were all ok.)
- Yesterday i connected my phone to laptop and my laptop suddenly was not detecting the phone (!). strange. it worked last week. (but the laptop was still able to charge the phone then). Tried different cables same thing. strange.
-so i thought its been ages since a power down. probably needs a proper shutdown and then clean reboot right?
-i shutdown the device using the power button. (I might have accidentally pressed the power button too long and forced a shut down - cant recall )
-but the device shutdown like normal and then just would not reboot. nothing. no charge light even when connected to charger now.
-I tried hard reset press all three (vol and power) buttons for 30seconds (up to 1minute) - nothing. phone still "black screen of death". wont boot. (tried vol up+power or vol down + power all no boot no nothing.) Never happened before. No idea what happened. Any ideas?
Any advice much appreciated
Try holding all three buttons for a couple of minutes while it's plugged into the charger.
If that doesn't work, leave it plugged in overnight. HTC phones can have these weird power issues where the phone appears to die, then comes back to life the next day.

OK I will try that. My battery was 90% charged before it died. but will try your suggestion and get back to you. hopefully my M9 is not irrecoverable....
{edit}[Update]
When I plugged into charger the charge light does not go on.
but i tried hold all three buttons while in charger, the charge light did begin blinking on and off times, but no reboot.
(i tried that over 10 times, holding upto 3 or 4 mintues till my fingers turned white, sadly no reboot.)
So I left it plugged into charger overnight but same this morning.
Any idea what it could be? I was rooted, S-off and unlocked bootloader so my warranty is history anyway.
Appreciate any ideas/advice. tia.
Having power issues as well..starting to think this m9 is a piece of junk..3 of my USB chargers stopped working on my m9 (they worked before)..one charges on and off very slowly.
ya my M9 just died and still would not boot. So strange, because it was almost all was fine beforehand. it was just it suddenly could not link to my laptop. and after a power down just died.
So after hours and hours of holding all three buttons while charging, not able to boot for days, and leaving charged for nights and no boot...I gave up. Took my phone to HTC service. They said it might take a month and I have no warranty. not happy with this at all and very confused. My guess is it could be the Power IC or some capacitor that just died. No idea. Makes me begin question quality of the M9. I saw a few guys on youtube comments say same thing. Their M9 after shut down would'nt reboot. So its not just me at least.
I saw this same thing happen on the M7. Some weird power/battery gremlins. Annoying they haven't fixed it.
after 5 months of my phone in and out of different HTC services they could not fix my phone power issue and seems they gave up and
replaced with new phone.
so almost 5 months I had no M9. . the power issue really disappointed me.

M8 Not booting, battery problem?

Hi Guys,
Strange problem here.
My M8 does not respond to any button combination at all.
But when I plug in the charger, the red LED Light comes up, the battery icon comes on the screen, the red LED gets brighter, and then everything goes black and the process starts again.
I was wondering if any of you guys experienced this, or know what this is? It suddenly happened.
I was thinking of a problem with the battery, but not sure?
M8 is running the latest insertcoin.
Charge the phone for several hours (overnight) on wall charger (not connected to computer). Then hold power + vol up button for a minute or longer, and see if any change (even if it's just the HTC logo screen). Folks often don't realize you need to hold the buttons what long in certain "stuck" situations, including battery drained/power off. That includes myself, I thought my M8 was bricked some months ago, as I was simply not holding the buttons long enough.

Thanks for the reply. Tried that already, but will try again later today. If there are more suggestions, always welcome.

Phone suddenly went dead- super rapid cycle- no boot?

HI All,
I recently did an unlock and ROM install and phone went great for a week or so, but now the phone suddenly shut down while on, and apparently with battery (my daughter says!) and now wont turn on at all.
If i plug it into a charger the battery filling icon turns on and the power LED lights up but then it seems to cycle off again very quickly and then stays in this cycle.
I have tried power + volume up and down combos but so far no luck. Any suggestions?
Leave the phone on wall charger for several hours. Then try holding power for a minute or so (it takes that long in certain "stuck" conditions). Also try holding power+vol up for a minute or so.
But what you describe (charge LED appears, then goes out) makes me think you may have a bad battery.

Phone died over night, won't turn on. Any help?

My LG G7 seems to have died over night. I left it on a Qi pad to charge and after I woke up this morning, it was completely dead. I could not turn it on with the power button ow Vol- and power button. The phone shows no reaction.
I thought that I might have misplaced it on the charger (The phone is quite picky with the right spot) and plugged in my USB charger for about 10 Minutes until i tried to start it up again. No reaction. Tried Vol+ and Power and also Vol- and Power with no luck.
Then I started to investigate and plugged a USB power meter in between phone and charger.
My first try was a cabled USB connection, the power meter shows 5,1V with about 100mA (varying between 90mA and 110mA) and I left it charging for about an hour. Still no luck with any method of turning it on.
Then just to try it out, i placed it on my Qi pad with the power meter attached, which got me 9V with about 200mA, so the Qi hardware apparently is transmitting power. Also left it there for about an hour, still no luck.
I noticed some kind of buzzing sound coming from the phone while charging, if I place my ear directly on the phone. A similar but different noise is emitted by the phone when it is not charging and I hold the power button.
Does anyone here have an idea which might return the phone to life?
As I still have warranty, I consider sending it in. I have backups of the important stuff, but I would really like to avoid sending it in with all the private stuff sill on the internal memory...
What happens when ypu plug it into your pc?
+1 same problem.
Nothing show up when connecting to pc. (no mtp,adb,9008 and etc)
Long press vol- abd power button together
