Lock screen apps with "Input keyevent 26" - delay on turn off screen - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any app/tool which can lock N5X screen like power button....with "Input keyevent 26" WITHOUT annoying 2-3 seconds delay?
I found all this apps and threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/fingerprint-unlock-using-lock-widget-t3231177/page2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/pob-power-off-button-t3261866
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/options-to-screen-off-hardware-button-t3231907
But all this apps have 2-3 seconds delay befor screen turn off.

Are you rooted? I saw this on the playstore and was curious, but as I'm not rooted, I'm unable to test it. If it works for you, please respond back.

You can remove pattern/PIN lock, but keep fingerprint option to unlock.
In that case you don't need special keyevent 26 for locking your screen. You can use any lockcreen app.

HTC Desire lock screen issue

Hi All
I would like to get your opinion and solution (if exist).
I configured company exchange mail on the HTC Desire, the exchange policy requires password lock which configured to maxim time 30 mins.
The problem is:
1. When i press on the power button to lock the screen, it locks the screen (turning off the screen) , but when i press again on power button to open the screen, it always asking for password (even after 1 minute).
In addition when i am making calls and finish the call by pressing on the "RED" button, it locks the phone again.
The question is:
If there any way i can disable the lock screen with password, or at least lock the screen for 30 mins without asking for password, only if it's idle for 30 mins then ask for password.
I read some stuff around and some suggest lockscreen disabler from andoroid market, for some reason i can not find it in the store.
Thanks for the assistance.
I would like to know this too. I configured my work exchange account then got so fed up with that poxy lock I removed the account after 10 mins!
i think i saw somewhere this, the solution would be installing app called lockpick or something like that. search this forum, about exact same issue, you will find it cheers

I use Autolock for this. Search for it on the Market.

I am using the Autolock too , in order to lock the device after some time. But the strange issue now, that when the phone is locked it asking to draw the patern instead of password as requested before ( Lock Picker is disabled the Exchange password).
The question where i can change the pattern ( Settings -> Security) i have change password only but not the pattern.
Thanks for the assistance.
i need something to disable the screen lock. these only disable the locking code thing!
Any ideas?!

Hi guys , do u know if this app consumes how much battery ??

Yep, and that annoys me also without Exchange account enabled (pattern instead of password in this case).
This might help someone. I use Lock Delay because I wanted the screen to go off and place the device in standby after 2 mins but I didn't want the lock to enable on doing so every 2 mins.
With this app, I set the phone to go into standby every 2 mins but the lock/pattern to appear only after 10 mins in idle. It works perfectly.
Secondly, when the screen is off but not locked for those 10 mins, I can bring the screen back on by pressing any key.

[Q] My screen locks too often (requiring pattern or pin very often). Why?

I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue. I have to enable a PIN or pattern lock to allow a corporate secure wifi network setting to be saved and for something else (I think for my bank app). From the G4 settings it seems like you can set it to NOT lock when turning off with power button (last option), and a 30 minute timeout before it auto-locks. Yet despite that, mine still seems to lock requiring a pattern input and not just a swipe if I leave it on the table for just a minute. What am I missing?
Thanks all!

These settings are under Lockscreen. Right at the end. It should work, unless you have another app controlling locking.
Exactly.. it "should work"... but it isn't. It insist on locking all the time.. Could the fact that I"m connected to said secure WIFI cause that?? (vs just having an entry for it)
You could try going under the setting for Security - Phone administrators. Look if there is something that is controlling phone lock.
I know for my example, I must enable PIN locking, but my phone administrator for that account enables up to 30 minutes before forcing lock. So as long as I uncheck the setting for "Lock phone immediately on power button," my phone will immediately be unlocked within a 30 minute window where I don't need to enter my PIN.

Right, that's what I'm going for / expecting. I have 3 in there, Android Device Manager, Support & Protection (Verizon thing it looks like) and AirDroid. Only Android Device Managers is checked ON. ADM can obviously affect the lock screen and can change the lock password, but I don't see anything else which would affect this timeout being ignored. hmmmm
(Thanks, BTW!)
I was looking at my Smart Lock section and read the blurb about On-body detection, which was the only Smart Lock I had enabled. It says "Just unlock once and your device stays unlocked as long as you keep holding your device or carry it on you." .... "Your device will lock when it detects that it's been set down"..!! So, I've now turned on-body detection OFF as, in this case, it's working against me. Seems it's not too well integrated with the other options (ignores the Security Lock Timer).
If I don't post back, it's probably working as hoped.
Disabling on-body detection has definitely solved my issue with the G4 locking shortly after setting it down on the desk.

Options to turn screen off without hardware button that allows you to re-open?

I've tried various screen off apps and they all require secondary security to turn back on when using the fingerprint scanner. Any ideas?
Would love for an option where the fingerprint scanner can also turn the screen off or even an OK Google command, but then allows the fingerprint scanner to reopen without secondary security.

hmmm, you can try to use command 'input keyevent 26' , for tasker task...
this will required root though.
Jackpot! A widget pointing to a tasker task that uses secure settings to run command 'input keyevent 26' as root works like a charm!

I was just going to post a similar question. I don't have the phone yet, but i thought maybe someone can create something that allows the fingerprint scanner to turn off the screen. The finger is already in that area so it would be cool to either hold fingerprint scanner for a second to turn screen off or double tap the scanner.

Thanks for this! Added it as a Tasker shortcut for double-tap gesture in Nova and it works like a charm.
Great tip. Got tasker set to Nova pinch out to turn off. But also have option to run task from Notification menu as well.
For those who have never used tasker before like me here is a quick note on how to set it up:
Select TASKS tab at top, select + button at bottom, give it a name (screen off) and press check mark.
You will then enter Task Edit. Press + to add an action, then select Code as your action category, then choose Run Shell.
Paste in the text: 'input keyevent 26' under the Command field. Check the Use Root option. Back out once and choose an icon for it if you want at the right lower corner. You can now place a widget for the task or launch the task with Nova etc. And/or go into Preferences and under the Monitor tab you can add it to the Notification Action Buttons.

Thanks for this detailed description. I've never used Tasker before either, so I'll give it a try. It's a shame such a step is required.
How was it determined that "input keyevent 26" would solve the problem? Will doing this interfere with OTA updates, since it may change a system setting?
Can I use Soft Lock Screen to turn the screen off?

There's a known list of Android commands that software can use to simulate some hardware presses, etc.: http://thecodeartist.blogspot.com/2011/03/simulating-keyevents-on-android-device.html
Tasker or using the keyevent 26 will not interfere with the system in any way. By sending the keyevent 26 you are doing exactly what pressing the Power button does - only with software. It does nothing to change any system settings. Not sure about the Soft Lock Screen app, but I suspect that like other software, if you use that, you will prob need to re-enter your password/pattern/pin and the fingerprint won't work. By sending the keyevent 26, you can still unlock it using the fingerprint sensor.

Thank you for explaining it. Does this require a root? And does it require Nova Launch?

It does require root to be able to let Tasker run a shell command. You would not need Nova launcher as you can easily put a widget to launch the Task within Google Now Launcher or any other launcher. Nova launcher is nice because it enables gestures and double tap to do certain actions. I have Nova to launch my phone app when I tap the Home button on the main home screen. Double tap runs my Task to turn off the phone. Pinch in, pinch out, two finger swipe down/up, etc.
Could you have something trigger Tasker to temporarily change the screen timeout to 1 second (and then change it back after the screen is off)?

I guess I won't be using this technique then, as I don't want to root at this stage.
Is it possible to get Nova to turn the screen off by something like double-tapping on the status bar (without root and Tasker)?

Nova launcher does not have a function to send keyevents or turn off the screen etc.
You can always try some of the Screen Off apps on the playstore and see if anyone of those allow you to unlock the phone again using Imprint. Swipe-Lock, Screen Off and Lock, Screen Lock, etc.
this one works (experimental) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iglint.android.screenlockpro&hl=en

Fingerprint senor only wakes, doesn't unlock

This is what is happeing to me. If my phone is locked for more than 20 minutes or so, when I use my fingerprint to unlock the phone, it only wakes th phone, I.e.turns the backlight on, but doesn't unlock it.
The fingrprint registers correctly, as the screen wouldn't wake otherwise. I'm struggling to understand what the problem could be.. maybe its Go Launcher? Maybe its lightflow? Or someway around notifications?
do u have a pin set up or pattern
Yes I do. When I use my fingerprint, it takes me to the screen to input my PIN

I had the same issue when I turned on douple tap to sleep in novalauncher. Once I disabled it, the fingerprint reader unlocked my phone, not taking me to the pattern screen. Its certainly a software problem, I guess it's your launcher.
I'm using a older version of Go Launcher EX (5.09). Its very old, but does the job for me.. unfortunatly it doesn't have the double tap option.
I'll try disabling it and see if th problem persists
Edit:
With the Google Now launcher, when I use this app to lock, the same problem occurs. I lock by clicking the app, but then when I try to unlock using fingerprint, it takes me to the PIN screen
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.screen.lock.screen
If you want to use fingerprint unlock function, you need to install FingerprintEnabler xposed module. Else the fingerprint to screen on and ask for pin or pattern is the default behavior..!

Delayed Lock?

Currently I use PIN+fingerprint setup. I wonder if there is a way I can do this:
I turn off the screen using the power button (or the phone turns off after inactivity).
If I turn on the device in x minutes (or hours) using the power button, then the device shows lock screen. Then I just swipe the screen without having to type PIN.
Unlocking lock screen with fingerprint works well, but sometimes it is not very convenient. I cannot use fingerprint when I wear gloves for example. Of course I do know that under Security, there is an option of "Automatic lock", but this is not what I want because it does not show lockscreen at all for entered duration.
Is there any app that allows me to do this?
You can delay the security lock for up to 30 minutes I think in the settings.

I already mentioned that. Under Security - Automatically lock, I can delay up to 50 minutes. But this disables lockscreen at all -- turning off then turning on using the power button yields NO LOCKSCREEN. It brings me back to the screen I was looking at. This is not I want, I want to delay password input but I want to have lockscreen, which I can swipe away.
No Idea?
Well there seems to be no solution I guess. Too bad.
