Can't enter recovery on z1 compact - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi as the title says I cant get my z1 compact to enter recovery.
To enter recovery instructions say to reboot phone and when LED lights up start pressing the volume control - when my phone reboots there are no LED lights and pressing the volume button down does nothing.
I have just updated to 14.6.A.1.236 and phone has unlocked bootloader and is rooted.
Any help would be appreciated.

Did you install a recovery? Which one, which method?

Go and flash in fastboot some recovery, go to adb fastboot folder if you have one and hold shift in that folder, then click (while holding shift) right mouse click and choose Open Commander.. (your phone must be in fastboot mode) go and type fastboot flash recovery ---.img and that should do the job

Thanx for reply but I could do with some more help please.
My Z1 compact is rooted and bootloader is unlocked and on Build 14.6.A.1.236
I have Flashtool and Minimal ADB and Fastboot installed on my laptop.
I used to have a Xperia Mini Pro which I had custom rom on but that was a while ago that I done that and forgotten the process for doing such thing.
I want a recovery CM/TWRP installed so that I can install mods/roms
Can someone explain in a bit more details how to do this or link me to a tutorial that has clear in depth instructions.

Download twrp 3 from the attachment here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/fota-twrp-3-0-0-0-amami-t3310794 Then install Rashr app from Play Store, then open Rashr, and choose 'recovery from storage', and navigate to the twrp file. Once installed, reboot, and press volume down or up when you see purple led. Alternately, you can download PC installer from NUT's download page, and run it on PC, and follow instructions.

Thanx for your reply. Ive installed Rashr and selected "recovery from storage" and a list of locations on my storage card but it wont show the recovery Z1C-FOTA-twrp-3.0.0.img, it just shows a list of the folders on my SD card with /storage/emulated/ at the top of the list and when i select a folder a pop up on screen says /storage/emulated/0/ and clicking that just takes back to SD card list.
So I tried the option to download XZDualRecovery through the app and it downloaded and appeared to install it but wont boot into the recovery either from the Reboot Recovery option in the app or by pressing the volume button when fone restarts.

Ignore the above post i have it working now, thanks for your help

You should install 'Quick boot' from the market. You need root access to use this app. You can also connect your phone to your PC and use ADB to reboot the phone in bootloader mode with the following adb command: adb reboot bootloader.
You mean the hboot menu? Press and hold back and power button, and when fastboot screen appears, press power button. Now you are in hboot.
You can install "ROM manager" , it can reboot into the Recovery(CWM)
Code:
adb reboot bootloader

As far as I know, there isn't any .exe file in an android operating system. And for your problem, you should do something like this:
1. If you're on Windows:
- make sure that you have the android sdk downloaded;
- make sure the drivers for HTC Desire are installed on your pc / laptop
- go to platform-tools, hold the SHIFT button from your keyboard pressed and, while holding it, press the right mouse button in that folder. The right click menu will appear, but having an extra option "Open Command Window Here" or something like that;
- connect your phone cable to your pc / laptop;
- plug the cable into your phone;
- in the command prompt window opened earlier write "adb shell reboot recovery" to go into recovery, "adb shell reboot" to simply reboot or "adb shell reboot bootloader" to boot into the bootloader;
2. If you're on Linux:
- open terminal;
- cd /to/the/android/sdk/path;
- cd /platform-tools;
- use the commands I wrote above, the ones including adb;
If your existing rom allows it, if you press and hold power button, choose restart, then you can get a mini menu with the option to boot into recovery. You can then use the recovery to flash the new rom.
Another option is 4ext recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408936
It will install a new recovery on your phone - but it is pretty cool. You can use the touchscreen to navigate rather than volume buttons (handy if your volume is stuffed) You can also use the app to launch the recovery.
I am also having a similar problem .I was trying to install superuser in a .zip file ,but now I have ended up in a boot loop ,I am not able to go to the boot menu .................
Can anybody help me.

Take the battery out, then boot in hboot (if your volume buttons are not working, press Power+Back button, then select Bootloader), then recovery and restore your backup (you should have done one) or reflash your rom.

[Q] Power button respond prob and Hboot prob

My phones stucked on Fastboot and it doesnt let me to go(select) recovery or anything.It only read PD99IMG.zip files and hardware keys only work to select yes or no(update or not).I was on CWM recovey and i flashed CWM img.But still phones doesnt let me to get into recovery! Still can reads PD99IMG.zip and only doing that. What should i do?I also tried RUU.exe.But it tell me to connect phone via usb even it still connected.
TIA
P.S.
Flashed CWM recovery image through Android Flasher and able to get into recovery! So i restored previous backed up CM.Everything perfect except these things.Now POWER BUTTON DOESNT RESPOND CORRECTLY and STILL CAN'T GET IN TO RECOVERY BY HOLDING VOLUME DOWN+POWER BUTTON. But ROM Manager CAN get in to recovery! What is now?
1st power button didn't work.Then i gave a factory reset. Nothing changed.After few hours,power button begun to respond, but not correctly. I mean,when i press on power button,screen doesn't off. But when i long press on power button and after few seconds,phone respond(show the power button long press menu).Also i can select Power off,reboot etc..This seems a software problem.What shold i do?
Ah.Another thing,I think i have Stock Hboot.Should i flash CM Hboot because i have a CM rom?
TIA

" [2] ADVANCED BOOT PROBLEMS
S-OFF
"I'm S-OFF, I can't boot recovery and my phone doesn't
boot"
For one reason or another, your recovery image is corrupted
and when you try to boot into recovery, all you get is the
HTC screen and your phone doesn't boot. It is relatively
simple to fix, and there is more than one way to go about
doing this. All you need to do, is to flash a new recovery
image.
Possible causes
- I have no idea, however if somebody has an explanation
then feel free to PM me.
Repairing recovery, booting phone:
NOTE: If you have a PVT4 Device, go to "Flashing custom
recovery". If you are unsure, check just to be safe.
#METHOD 1#
Method One uses Android Flasher to flash the recovery
image.
[STEP1] - Battery pull. Hold the BACK button and the
POWER button to boot into FASTBOOT mode.
[STEP2] - Download Android Flasher
[STEP3] - Download the recovery image . Put it in a place you
can remember.
[STEP4] - Run android flasher, tick "Recovery", and press
"Begin"
[STEP5] - Browse to where you downloaded the recovery
image, select it, and press "open"
[STEP6] - repeat [1] from [STEP4] onwards
#METHOD 2#
Method two uses cmd and requires Android SDK to be set
up.
[STEP1] - Battery pull. Hold the BACK button and the
POWER button to boot into FASTBOOT mode.
[STEP2] - Download the recovery image . Rename it to
"recovery.img" for simplicity, and place it in the following
directory:
Code:
C:\
[STEP3] - then in cmd type the following commands
Code:
cd c:\android-sdk\tools
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img
fastboot oem gencheckpt (this command boots you into recovery, ignore the feedback from
[STEP4] - repeat [1] from [STEP4] onwards"
Im trying with AndroidFlasher .Problem is link to recovery.img is not working.Can you tell me the full name of recovery i should google and download?
TIA
download ClockWorkMod recovery for bravo then you can flash any custom rom... 4ext is highly recommended but you should download it via app (download from here)
Is it really necessary to open another thread about your problem?

[Q] Very weird root issue - didn't sleep for two days

When I first bought my ZL, I rooted the phone using binary4 V27 on superuser mode and that was very fast and simple. I could modify system files and do everything.
One day using my ultimate stupidness, I updated the firmware to 10.1.1.....253 then I did factory reset without doing a backup for my root.
Right now, when I go to settings -----> about ----> I get Kernal version 3.4.0 with android version 4.1.2 but unfortunately It seems like I don't have a rooted phone + I am unable to do any function of a rooted phone like modifying system files or ....etc .
I've tried million ways such as:
1- rooting the phone using the same method --------> the result is stucking at the wight screen and nothing happened.
2- Using motochopper method --------> doesn't work
3- Using the method of installing Android SDK and using the command prompt window to push (Su-busybox-superuser.apk) files to data/local/tmp/ --------> when reach sysrw step (sysrw not found)
tried to type SU (su not found)
tried to use one of the alternative commands like cd /system/usr/we-need-root or ./su-backup -----> file not found
or mount -o remount,rw '' /systemmount ---------> Operation not permitted
I will be following your instructions directly and give u the feed back
I am not gonna move anywhere until solving this issue BC I am getting crazy
I would highly appreciate your help guys , ... Thank you so much in advance
Check this out:
I did the same, was on rooted 434 version and updated to 253 and it unrooted. The 253 update can't be rooted by the normal exploit methods, but this post worked for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41727431&postcount=39
Took a little time, and everything on my phone was wiped when I had to unlock the bootloader again, but I now have my stock 253 ZL rooted and unlocked.

Thank you so much for your reply but you know, that really seems to be so complicated
Ufffff
It's a lot more simple than it looks. Here's a slimmed-down version of the instructions:
Since you're already on the 253 update, you can skip numbers 1 & 2 from the other page and just start with numbers 1 & 2 below.
1) Download from this link the 0.9.10.2beta6 version of Flashtool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201189 and run the installer. Make sure to install to your computer's HDD root (ie; C:\Flashtool).
2) Make sure you have flashmode and fastboot drivers installed for your device. Easiest way to tell if they're done correctly is to open your Device Manager (in Windows), power off your phone, and plug it into a USB port in each of the modes and make sure no errors show up in the Device Manager.
3) Unlock your bootloader with the Flashtool. It'll have you first go into flashmode, and then prompt you to unplug and plug back into fastboot mode.
4) Download v07 of DooMKernel from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230826 and extract the boot.img file from the ZIP. Place the boot.img file into this directory: C:\Flashtool\x10flasher_lib where the fastboot.exe file is located.
5) Open a command window and type this while your phone is connected in fastboot mode:
Code:
cd C:\Flashtool\x10flasher_lib
- and then:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
- and then:
Code:
fastboot reboot
6) If you miss the chance to boot into recovery after that last step, reboot the phone once it has booted all the way and when you see the DooMKernel splash screen press (repeatedly, if necessary) the volume+ button. It should vibrate once. Once in recovery, just select to reboot system and it'll prompt whether you would like to root or not. Select the option to root and once it's done it should reboot.
Then just go and reconnect (in Android OS, not flash or fastboot modes) to Flashtool and install BusyBox, and download whichever SuperUser app you'd like from the Google Play Store and you're all set!

For step 6 just repeatedly press the VOLUME+ button after you reboot your phone, and it will vibrate once after you see the splash screen for the kernel. The light at the bottom should turn fuchsia or pinkish, and you'll know it's going to boot into recovery. Once there, just select to reboot and it'll ask you if you want to root.
The last part about connecting back into the Flashtool is simple. Just boot your phone normally after it's rooted, and once your phone is powered on and USB debugging is enabled then start the Flashtool and plug your phone into your computer with a USB cable.

First of all you need to know your device's bootloder is locked or unlocked for that type *#*#7378423#*#* in dial pad then go to service info >configuration and check for bootloder unlock allow
If it say yes then it's unlock
If it says no then it is locked
Do as follow for unlocking the bootloder
You need your device's IMEI number and a password for unlocking your bootloder
You can get your password by following link
Do step by step
http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
1)switch off your device and open flashtool(download from following link)
2)select the unlock bootloder and connect your phone with flash mode by keep pressing vol. Down button and connect the cable LED light will turn green and then it will off
3)enter Your device's IMEI number and the password you got from Sony
4)click on unlock
Now your bootloder is unlocked so now can install custom recovery like XZdualrecovery,TWRP,CWM (unfortunately CWM is not supported in 5.1.1)
For installation of recovery you need to download full Rom from Xperifrim or other source and convert it into Ftf file
You need 1) kernel which have recovery pre-installed like doomlord's kernal for D5303 device for Android 4.3
2)For recovery which work with it just download latest version of XZdualrecovery for T2 ultra from thread and download the Release file (there are 2 file which are located there one is release and second is installer)
Download it on phone and move it on place whare you can find it easily
1) Now switch off your phone open flashtool
2) select flash sign and select fastboot mode
3) Now connect your phone with computer in fastboot mode by keep pressing vol.up button and connect the cable and LED light will turn blue
4)select doomlord's kernel file for flashing (it'll be on img format so select img from file type)
And flash it
5)Now disconnect your phone and boot it. When Sony logo appear and then keep pressing vol.down button alternatively it will boot you to CWM recovery
Now touch is not working... You can move upper option by volume Up button and downward option by volume down button for selecting the option press power button
Select install >install from SD card or external SD(where you placed a file)
Select flash and recovery will install then for back to exit there is (/) sign which can bring you to previous menu then exit from recovery by pressing vol.up button and power button holding together until it vibrate 3 times now your phone is power offed
6)Now click on flash button on flashtool and select flash mode
Then choose your latest 5.1.1 rom and now do as instruction or your data will lost
1) first you choosed a rom to flash now it will show a dialogue box that how many files are in that rom for flash now on right top you have 2 check box ( data and cache) uncheck both of them.
2) under that you have Exclude box which have check boxes too
Now check all boxes(system,some other things) but make sure only kernal remain uncheck
Now click on flash button
It will ask for connect your phone in flash mode by holding vol.down button and connect the cable
Now it will flash only kernal file all other files will remain same
Disconnect your phone and boot it until Sony logo appear and keep pressing vol.down button alternatively .... It will boot to TWRP recovery which is Easy to use and touch is also working now for get back to normal boot just select last option reboot and it will your
(while you want to enter into recovery keep pressing vol down button alternatively until LED blink green or some other colour.after it blinked you can't boot to recovery)
Hit thanks button if this helped you... And ask if you stuck at somewhere
This was simple tutorial and you are doing this all at your own risk I am not responsible for any damage of your device.
If it says bootloader unlock allowed YES then you can unlock it and use custom roms if it says bootloader unlock allowed NO there is nothing you can do to change it and you can only use stock or stock based roms if you won't or can't unlock bootloader root is still available and so is recovery
