I'm getting error status 7 when trying to install gapps on my Rogers sgh-i747m. Here is the file I'm using gapps-lp-20141212-signed.
I'm trying to get CM 12.1 running smoothly on this device if thats even possible. So far all I've been able to do is get 12.1 running no wifi, receive messages but can't send them. If there a version of CM 12.1 specifically made for the Canadian version of this phone? Right now I'm running the sprint version, it wouldn't let me install att version, saying my phone was d2spr.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What bootloader and modem are on the phone? Are you using the latest release of twrp?
Your phone is identified as an i747m in download mode?

Gapps installs fine using TWRP but I've still got no WIFI using Canadian version of Galasy s3. I've tried installing a few att, verizon and tmobile versions, all give me network connection but no wifi. Wifi works fine using stock rom.
Which bootloader and modem are on the phone?
The wifi is working now. Not sure why but it seems to take a bit for the wifi to kick in after the software has been loaded. I'd say it took about 30 minutes. I experience the same issue if I let the battery die. It always comes on though so I'm happy with the way CM 12.1 is running on my S3.
What bootloader and modem are on the phone? Wifi should turn on immediately with all ROMs IMHO.

Friend of mine at work has an ATT Galaxy S3 that he said was running CM10 fine. He said that he flashed CM11 recently and that the phone boots and runs fine, but will not read his SIM card. Is this a known issue, or where should I start to help get him up and running again? I'm pretty android savvy, but I've never owned/worked with the S3 so I am not familiar at all with it specifically.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Does the phone display the correct IMEI and baseband? Maybe an updated modem is required?

I asked him about it and he said that it's not showing any information under system properties for the baseband or anything. I he said that he also first flashed the bootloader from here as well as the latest CWM recovery before flashing the M3 milestone snapshot of CM11 (from here). I had him flash a different rom (pac-man rom) just to test and the same issue occurred, so I believe it could be an issue with the modem as you said.
I received a used s3 which had stock 4.3 , modem/bootloader mjb, and knox. I rooted, removed knox and installed slim 4.4.4 rom, lean 4.4.4 kernel and latest philz. All running ok
including cell calls to/from, mms, apps and wifi data. Same modem/bootloader (MJB), IMEI available However cellular data will not connect and or transmit/receive using att, phone or lte APN.
Any help/thoughts appreciated?
Have you updated the bootloader and modem to kk?

My research suggested that the modem mjb and bootloader mjb did not have to be updated if cell calls and sms were working. Also I have an older S3 with modem mjb and bootloader mg2 and the same rom and kernel
that was working fine.
??
Can you manually add the APN? Have you tried other KK custom ROMs?

I just added an APN, tested and deleted it. I was holding off changing roms because it seems to me that this might be an ATT cell data network registration problem in which the choice of ROM is
irrelevant.
When you added the APN, were you able to connect to ATT?

Not for data, cell calls and sms work.
Are any APNs present in the phone? With every custom ROM I have installed on a phone (i747m, Atrix HD, Nexus 4, Galaxy Nexus, LG Optimus G), the APN was always automatically added.

Yes, there were att based apns labeled phone, att, lte, broadband, attactivate and two for smarttalk. I have tried the phone, lte and att apns and they all fail.
This is strange that it can't connect the ATT data network. Is ATT's data network functioning properly in your area? Are you able to try your sim in another phone?

I just tested the ATT data network with another sim and phone. AOK. Unable to easily test with the same sim due to a std/micro sim card mismatch. Will be able to
do that after 6p cdt today.
Weird, I would suggest creating a nandroid backup of your current ROM and try another ROM.
Do you have a link to the ROM you installed?

Here is a link to the main d2lte download page. I downloaded the 7.0 version as my searches showed some instability in later releases .

Will have to hold for now on another rom install due to external issues.
I don't see any assert lines in the ROM's updater-script file. I also noticed that it has been updated since Aug 5.

Not knowledgeable enough to understand assert impact. Also held off on later version due to thread discussion about instability.
The only thing left to do seems to be trying another ROM. If that doesn't solve the issue, it may be a defective sim card or possible hardware issue.

Have to go on hold for a while now.
Thanks for the efforts
Any other thoughts/help appreciated!!
If you get it solved, let us know how you did it.
Sorry I couldn't solve the problem for you.
Cheers
Resolved. By removal of lean kernel and extensive correction of ATT registration data. Thanks for the help

Hey guys. I just got a galaxy s3 from virgin mobile SPH-L710 last week and I managed to install cyanogenmod 11 m10 on it. But to go to cm11 m11 asI've recently learned needs the latest bootloader and baseband.
I know there's two threads in the development section on how to get the latest stock nd8 update.
One had a link to download and open in Odin however the link doesn't seem to be good anymore.
The second thread is for the Odin one click full restore but when I run it it fails on aboot.nbm. I've tried using different USB cables too but it doesn't seem to do any good. Any ideads on how else to upgrade?
I can assure you this is false. I have a Virgin Mobile SPH-L710 on baseband MK5 and I am running a nightly build that is newer than M11 and have no issues.
You should be fine with a dirty flash over M10. Just wipe the cache before flashing.
OK that's intriguing. How did you get MK5 baseband? I just got my s3 last week and its on NF4 which I have no idea where that is in relation to any of the others i've seen around.
I've used the cm updator in settings to try one of the m11 nightlys earlier last week but I had no service so I restored a recovery of m10. Would performing a dirty flash of a nightly build be any different?

My phone came with MK5 on it, when the phones were shipping with 4.3 installed.
To be honest with you, I would disregard the modem/baseband concerns altogether if I were you. These phones do come with KNOX on them and flashing bootloaders and modems is seriously a huge risk. Flashing a bootloader older than the one you are currently on will trip the killswitch and you will have an irreparable hard brick.
The only time I could possibly think considerations with the bootloader would need to be made is if you were looking to flash a rooted stock TouchWIZ ROM that needed newer bootloaders/modems. But, I really can't speak to that, as I am trying to avoid TouchWIZ and am only familiar with AOSP ROMs.
You may need to flash an APN fix in addition to the ROM and GAPPs. I also use @decimalman's custom kernel, the DKP kernel and have no issues. Basically, when I am clean flashing nightlies the order goes like this:
In PhilZ Recovery found here: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/
ROM
GAPPs
Kernel
APN fix
Re-Root system for SuperSU
Reboot
I sent you the link for the APN fix, available in another active VM S3 forum, in your inbox. Download and flash the zip and that should fix any service-related issues you're having.
OK I did a clean flash of the latest nightly, flashed the apn fix then booted. Still no service. No apn are on the device nor is it able to save any I manually put in. And settings shows the baseband version as unknown as well as anything else that has to do with cell service.

And, you tried flashing all of those with the lateat version of PhilZ recovery?
Yes. I tried it with the latest version of philz and flashed all the zips you had listed in order but still the same old issues. However I noticed that WiFi still works. I can also go back to M10 and have no service issues. The other thing im noticing is that CyanogenMod thinks this is a SPH-L710 but apperently its really a SPH-L710T. The difference being that my phone has a tri-band radio for something to do with Sprints Spark.

When you're on M11, have you checked in system root --> /etc folder to see if the apns-conf.xml is there? You might tru copying that over from the M10 build.
In the meantime, I'll look into the modem a bit more. The CM forum users all seemed to agree on that as a fix.
I was happily using 4.4.2 stock on my rooted SGH-i747M, however rooting it tripped the warranty bit, then I had the phone unlocked and changed carriers from Rogers to Bell and because of either of those my device is blacklisted from getting OTA updates.
I decided to try CM and was advised on the CM IRC channel to update the modem firmware first. I updated (or perhaps downgraded?) to I747MUMUEND3 per this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898) and rebooted but found that I no longer had sound or WIFI and the SIM card wasn't detected. I tried other versions from that same thread with no luck.
I went ahead and flashed CM 12.1 nightly for D2ATT which worked well, however still no sound or SIM. WIFI works but slowly. I also tried 11.2 for D2LTE but got the same result, and flashing 10.1 for D2ATT gave me an assert error. In 12.1 I experimented with other modem firmware versions (I747MVLUEMK5, I747MUMUEND3, I747MVLUEND2) but it made no difference.
I'm not quite sure where to go from here. According to a CM12.1 debug log my boot loader is I747MVLUFNF2. Do I need to match the modem firmware version with this, and if so, where can I get this version? Would flashing stock from sammobile do it, would I lose root while doing so, and how can I get root back? I forget how I rooted it originally but soft bricked it but fixed it with chainfire.
Anything else I can try at this point? I might just be happy back on stock with cellular connectivity.
The latest modem for the i747m is FOB1. The END2 modem is about a year behind the FOB1.
The assert error occurred because d2lte or d2can ROMs are to be flashed to the i747m.
Fixed
I flashed the stock ROM that matched up with my current bootloader version. Inside the stock ROM everything worked as normal. I then installed TWRP and flashed 12.1 and everything worked in there as well.
Hi all, new comer to the S3 here but not new to flashing etc. I just wanted to get a few things straight before I went ahead.
1. I downloaded and used Mskip unified android toolkit. I rooted and flashed twrp recovery to my S3.
I am on I747UCALG1 4.0.4 and I just wanted to know if I can flash the 4.1.1 build ATT-I747UCDLK3 that I found here straight away in odin. I know some sammy phones are drama queens when it comes to new bootloaders etc. Will the new build update the bootloader or should I do this separately.
Or should I just download a rom from the development section and flash it in twrp or won't that work and I need to flash a new bootloader first then flash the newer roms.
Thanks for any help and yes I did search around but only found questions regarding downgrading.
Bro, remember my strong advice - don't go higher.
Battery life goes worse with every update. I wish I never did it.
But if you want to try something new, try OctOs
The problem I'm having right now is that my wifi keeps on scanning but does not find any networks although I am 2 feel from my router. This phone really was my Gfs that went crazy and I changed out the mainboard so I'm just running it as a back up.
Personally, I would flash stock 4.1.1 from sammobile.com and sim unlock the phone using the free method if the phone is sim locked. Once sim unlocked, I suggest running OTA updates until the phone is running the latest stock ROM. Once it is running the latest stock ROM, flash twrp, take a nandroid backup, and then flash a custom ROM if you want.
Note: once the phone is running the latest bootloader, you cannot downgrade the bootloader.
Would be hard to do an OTA since I cannot connect to any wifi networks.
if youre talking upgrading bootloader/modems , and cannont do as @audit13 suggests , and cannot connect to wifi or use/have enough data ; then i would suggest upgrading incrementally.

No it is on and scans for networks but it does not show any, even if I add a network manually it does not connect. I read somewhere that I need a newer bootloader in order for the wifi to work. Does anyone have the newest bootloader for me to flash and try this out on?

Do the last 4 characters of the modem match the last four characters of the bootloader?
For wifi to work properly, it is best to match the bootloader to the modem and vice versa.
