[Q] Virgin Mobile update to cm11 m11 help - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys. I just got a galaxy s3 from virgin mobile SPH-L710 last week and I managed to install cyanogenmod 11 m10 on it. But to go to cm11 m11 asI've recently learned needs the latest bootloader and baseband.
I know there's two threads in the development section on how to get the latest stock nd8 update.
One had a link to download and open in Odin however the link doesn't seem to be good anymore.
The second thread is for the Odin one click full restore but when I run it it fails on aboot.nbm. I've tried using different USB cables too but it doesn't seem to do any good. Any ideads on how else to upgrade?

I can assure you this is false. I have a Virgin Mobile SPH-L710 on baseband MK5 and I am running a nightly build that is newer than M11 and have no issues.
You should be fine with a dirty flash over M10. Just wipe the cache before flashing.

OK that's intriguing. How did you get MK5 baseband? I just got my s3 last week and its on NF4 which I have no idea where that is in relation to any of the others i've seen around.
I've used the cm updator in settings to try one of the m11 nightlys earlier last week but I had no service so I restored a recovery of m10. Would performing a dirty flash of a nightly build be any different?

My phone came with MK5 on it, when the phones were shipping with 4.3 installed.
To be honest with you, I would disregard the modem/baseband concerns altogether if I were you. These phones do come with KNOX on them and flashing bootloaders and modems is seriously a huge risk. Flashing a bootloader older than the one you are currently on will trip the killswitch and you will have an irreparable hard brick.
The only time I could possibly think considerations with the bootloader would need to be made is if you were looking to flash a rooted stock TouchWIZ ROM that needed newer bootloaders/modems. But, I really can't speak to that, as I am trying to avoid TouchWIZ and am only familiar with AOSP ROMs.
You may need to flash an APN fix in addition to the ROM and GAPPs. I also use @decimalman's custom kernel, the DKP kernel and have no issues. Basically, when I am clean flashing nightlies the order goes like this:
In PhilZ Recovery found here: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/
ROM
GAPPs
Kernel
APN fix
Re-Root system for SuperSU
Reboot
I sent you the link for the APN fix, available in another active VM S3 forum, in your inbox. Download and flash the zip and that should fix any service-related issues you're having.

OK I did a clean flash of the latest nightly, flashed the apn fix then booted. Still no service. No apn are on the device nor is it able to save any I manually put in. And settings shows the baseband version as unknown as well as anything else that has to do with cell service.

And, you tried flashing all of those with the lateat version of PhilZ recovery?

Yes. I tried it with the latest version of philz and flashed all the zips you had listed in order but still the same old issues. However I noticed that WiFi still works. I can also go back to M10 and have no service issues. The other thing im noticing is that CyanogenMod thinks this is a SPH-L710 but apperently its really a SPH-L710T. The difference being that my phone has a tri-band radio for something to do with Sprints Spark.

When you're on M11, have you checked in system root --> /etc folder to see if the apns-conf.xml is there? You might tru copying that over from the M10 build.
In the meantime, I'll look into the modem a bit more. The CM forum users all seemed to agree on that as a fix.

AT&T has taken down the stock 4.1 UCDLK3

For no valid reasons AT&T Galaxy S3 stock ROM I747UCDLK3 has been nowhere to be found for download.
Both links from Sammobile and Samsung-updates only says "This file is either removed due to copyright claim or is deleted by the uploader"
There must be something fishy goin on right here, they don't even released the full stock of recent UCDMG2 update. This is the first time I heard somebody filed copyright infringement of those stock firmware? Why the heck it's only the UCDLK3 and not all other older stock versions like LEM and LG1. So watch out AT&T subscribers!
Its still up in the development forum if needed.
It can still be flashed from the official KIES software.

I think the thing is not that can't find file, but that he noticed that specific file is target for ©/unloaded.

I think it's more because of the boot loader update... Just to avoid idiots bricking their phones flashing software with odin. It was removed for avoidance of disaster...

But why take down the stock firmware? I just needed it to fix auro rotation in one of my kids s3. I found it with help from an op anyway and it did the trick. I just remember 4.1.1 and earlier were simple to unlock. 4.1.2 done away with that method. 4.1.2 is still available for download also. I elieve 4.0.4 is too though, so my theory has some holes in it if it is. Whats tough is finding US stock firmware for sgh-i497. I flashed umama1 or umama2 and lost my wifi for a day. Found 1 rom finally and fixed it with 4.0.4. Need to find or make a JB rom for it after it gets repaired y Samsung. LCD went bad Gotta update N S3 to kk soon also... I never like flashing a new bootloader and knox bugs me 8n the new version.

You were right about the bootloader, but wrong with the reason. Its identical to the S4 bootloader aside from the S4 having a critical value of '1' in this code somewhere... Thing us though, that the LK3 bootloader could remain intact and signed, therefore flashed and accepted by the S4 as an update... That us IF it turns out to be truly identical lol. I got a lotta code to read over. Caffeine time.

I am VERY new to all of this. I had a Windows 640, which I hated. And got this S3, I love everything except the os. (Previous device Sprint S4 w/lollipop). Anyway, I have the 4.1.1 os. Its rooted to Metro (was AT&T). But I want to upgrade the os to slimkat 9.0. I just don't have a clue what I need or how to do it. And can it be done w/o pc? As a note (included r screenshots). I have supersu, it has a feature to "full root", do I want to mess with that? If so, what are the benefits. I don't want to brick this and want to learn how. Maybe someday try to unlock sim on Sprint S4 ( has knox)!
Anyone who can help with the right info will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Before doing anything else, I would recommend doing the free sim (carrier) unlock while you are still on 4.1.1. This will give you more options in the future. The method can be found in these forums.
If you were on AT&T I would say there is a chance you could take OTA updates to get to a bootloader that would work with SlimKat 9.0. I don't imagine you can do this.
Just noticed you have TWRP. Which version do you have? you will need a fairly new version to flash SlimKat 9.0 and a newer bootloader and modem, check HERE for both .tar and .img files.
You will probably be able to run slimKat from the MJB bootloader and modem (from the 4.3 rom). You could even do so with the MJ2 bootloader and modem, but you would need a custom kernel such as ktoonsez to do so. If MJB does not work well for you NE4 definitely would, it is from the 4.4.2 release.
Thank you for your response. After posting, I did a root check and found that the phone had only been partially rooted. I downloaded the apk root master. From there I had already downloaded the slimkat 7.0, I was mildly impressed, and now desperate as this is my only working device. Plus, I was terrified I was about to brick it. Anyway, I found LiquidSmooth KitKat os. 4.4.4, downloaded it plus gapps. Everything seems great! Still don't get the connectivity Metro shows for my area, but no bad. But I do have an issue with the front camera. When you take a pic, the phone reboots. The gapps came with Google camera. Tried the camera 360...exact same issue. Not that big a deal. I know have far more flexibility with my service provider in the settings.
So, thanks again for the info. I still have a SCH-720T I wanna do a sim unlock. Between Sprint,Knox and lollipop. Everything I've read says I've got my work cut out !

I have seen reports that Open Camera solves some of the camera issues on AOSP/CM roms.
I am beginning to have some problems with liquid smooth. I would still like the slimkat 9.0. I have twrp v 2.8.0.1, and recently downloaded the tar and img. I believe the modem I have is 4.1, I'm not sure as I just downloaded the liquid smooth KitKat 4.4.4. I'm still new to ALL of this. So I don't know how to get the most appropriate bootloader or kernal you mentioned. Is the slimkat 9.0 better? My connection really sucks now and so does batt life. SOS!!!!

Are you having phone connectivity issues or data connectivity issues? If it is phone connection you may need a newer modem.
Before changing modems, have you checked that your APN settings are correct? You may need to verify this with Metro.
Since you said you tried to install the MJB modem but received an error, I guess we need to try to eliminate that problem. Did you try to install only the modem or both modem and bootloader? I would recommend installing the MJB baseband (=Modem) and bootloader together. Once you get past MJB version you must keep the bootloader and baseband matched, so we may as well start that practice now. Is it possible you had a bad download of MJB? Re-downloading may solve the problem.
Do not skip MJB and go to NE4 or NJ1, both newer versions of the modem and bootloader. All I have read indicates that you should update in order without skipping or risk bricking the device.
Your version of TWRP is recent enough that it should work with the files you need. (TWRP is now up to 2.8.7.0 for the d2att.)
I have data issues. I've located 2 sources to download the modem/bootloader you mentioned. The first is out of Quebec and has a bad signature. My device also skips md5 , not sure about the issue there. And the other source has too much red tape before I can get to the down load. I have the correct network settings. But I should have excellent 4g. I don't and I believe there is a conflict with the baseband/modem and the 4.4.4 liquidsmooth os.
And thanks a ton for all the help you have given!

Frequently data issues are a matter of bad APN settings. Have you checked to see if yours are correct?
This thread by enewman17 discusses upgrading modem and bootloader starting at DLK3. He has links to bootloader and modem files. There should be no issues with signed files.
I have the SGH-I747

Will not take MJ2 to NEW zip
And how do I UPGRADE TWRP?
Please someone help fix my issues. Connectivity was great at first, wasn't aware of WiFi issue till today. Front camera I can live without but if I can fix with the other issues, that would be great. The connection is stronger but drops like a rock, sometimes have to reboot phone.

That has information that may be the key to solving your issues.
I am extrapolating from much reading about people using the MJB, android 4.3, bootloader and modem on KitKat ROMs. The ROMs I read about were TouchWiz based, but the info may still apply. (MJ2 was the leaked release of MJB. The only difference I recall is that MJ2 did not include KNOX, and you can downgrade from it.)
People were having issues running the KK roms from both the MJ2 and MJB bootloader and modem while using the kernel that came with the custom TouchWiz ROMs. Their issues were solved by changing to one of two specific kernels. ibuddler developed one of the kernels, links to it can be found in the OP of LikeWise ROM. The other kernel was by ktoonsez, I don't have a link to his thread. You can not use a kernel for a TouchWiz ROM with an AOSP based ROM. Fortunately ktoonsez also has a kernel for AOSP roms.
Full disclosure, earlier Kitkat ROMs ran fine on MJ2 and MJB, it was later builds that needed either updated firmware or the custom kernels.
I found the kt747 zip and tried v3&v4 of ibuddler. Tried to reboot and each would not boot( over 10 min). But I was able to find this ad so far(fingers crossed) it seems to work just fine. I does switch from 4g to 3 when it is at idle.
3.4.101 leankernel-aosp_kitkat-9.9-+
lk_s3aosp_kitkat-v9.9.zip
I'm still trying it out,but so far so good. I'm still having issues getting an update for twrp. Speaking of updates. Liquidsmooth updated this morning. It updated the kernel and it was way wrong for my os.
Thank you so much for your patience with me in this journey into something I had no clue of. I still would like to update my bootloader and modem to NE4. But I want to wait before I screw something up. Do some more research as I am unable to use odin.

modem T999VVLUFNH2
Hi everybody,
I try to find the updated modem for my S3 (videotron SGH-T999v)
I have the modem T999VVLUFNF1 (ROM LS 3.1 stable KK 4.4.4, KT747 kernel)
When I unzip the official ROM of samsung (older like 4.1.2 and the last samsung update from september 2014) , I only find the file NON-HLOS.bin
According to sammobile the last videotron modem is T999VVLUFNH2, but I cannot find the file. This is the first time I try to update the modem because I have a poor reception in my house.
Thank you for your help
I haven't decided if I will post those or not. Too great a risk with the 4.4.2 modems. If you want to try the latest I can only recommend fully updating as a safe way to do so.
If you really want to be the one to test if it's safe, I'll get it uploaded for you, but understand there is a chance it could hard brick the phone beyond repair.
Reason for all of this is because we know if you flash a 4.4.2 modem on 4.3 it'll permanently brick it. I have no idea if flashing an older or newer 4.4.2 modem on 4.4.2 firmware (like you want to do) will result in the same. Normally, I would guess it wouldn't be the case, but it seems a lot has changed in these new builds that no one understands, and there have already been too many bricks for me to be comfortable trying something new like this without exercising great caution.

Thank you for your reply and your advise.
As I don't have enought money to take the risk, I will keep my actual modem.
Thank again
Don't blame you a bit! But don't forget, you can still fully update and that may help. (From what I've seen, flashing older modems on 4.4.2 doesn't brick, so i think if you updated, it should be ok to flash the NF1 modem if the newer one doesn't help. It might not work, but I don't think it would cause any harm. Just food for thought, but again, I can't guarantee anything with these latest modems...)
If it's a bad signal issue that you did not have before, call your carrier and ask if there are any tower/network/account issues they are aware of.
Your carrier probably doesn't do this, but Tmobile will sometimes give customers a signal booster for home use only. You can buy them online too, but I'm not sure how my h they are these days. (Just make sure it boosts the frequencies used by your carrier if you look into this.)

Just noticed today that my phone is on T999VVLUFNF1 but that there is a newer 4.4.2 release for the T999V phone that is T99VVLUFNH2. Would it be good to update via Odin to this? Is it just a newer modem?
I have a T mobile T999 that is currently flashed with CyanogenMod 11-20141008-SNAPSHOT-M11-d2lte which is kitkat 4.4.4. The baseband version is T999UVDMD5. I have a Lebara sim card in it now, and I'm in France. I'm not getting any signal and I suspect it is because the baseband version mismatch. Is there anything I can do to make this setup work or do I have to downgrade to a different version of CM? Is there and updated modem I can flash on this device or any way to make it work?

Latest baseband is NC2, flash it, and if the device still does not pick up service flash back to MD5 firmware and see if it will pick it up. If not then it might incompatible with your provider..
Thanks!!!! Also Those using T999 switched to ATT
Just wanted to say thank you!!!
Also just wanted to say for those who have a T999 that switched to AT&T this works (I wasn't sure if this would work since it didn't say anything about AT&T working with it. To be perfectly honest I didn't read everything but again THANKS!!!!!!
Hi Guys,
I got the OTA update ( T999UVUENC2 ) about a month back and since then, my Wifi has stopped working. It stays greyed out when I try to turn it on. Just won't turn on.
The logcat says that the "WiFi driver is unstable".
What I have tried so far (with no success):
1) Flash the same build again (T999UVUENC2).
2) Flash the root666_T999UVUENC2 build. (Currently, I am on this)
3) Flash Cyanogenmod 11.
4) Factory reset.
5) Pull the battery out when the phone is on and put it back again.
6) Modify/delete the wpa_supplicant.conf file.
Can someone please give any directions on how the "Wifi driver can be fixed"? I understand from going through the forums that downgrading from 4.3 to 4.2 can cause a brick. However, can I downgrade to the previous T-Mobile 4.3 build (T999UVUEMJC ) without causing a brick? Do you guys think that can help fix the Wifi?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Could you point me to what one exactly i need for T999LUVUBNF4

Why does it not want to load from ext sd? Is it the file system? I've never had any issues with any of these sd cards, and they aren't generic cards, one is a samsung other a sandisk,

Bad/no reception on T999L, need help/suggestions

These issues started with the upgrade to latest T-Mobile 4.3 software pack at the end of November. Phone operated perfectly before then. After the update, the phone would periodically not receive/place calls/texts/use data. The issue kept worsening daily. It is not related to the SIM card or location, as the card has been replaced and tested in an alternate phone where it performs perfectly.
The T999L was then consequently rooted, KNOX flagged (it's already past warranty, Samsung wouldn't give a rat's ass about it), flashed to CM11 M12 and later a variety of modems was tried. Same issues persisted. Restored to stock 4.1.2, same issues. Did 3 updates OTA to get to latest 4.3, same issues.
Messed around with 4636 menu, 2263 menu, etc. Some changes had a temporary result but nothing permanent. Calls to the phone are redirected to voicemail. When placing a call, it takes 5-10 seconds to either place it or disconnect it (as it can't connect to the network, I guess?). The bars on the phone show 3-4 bars typically, but the phone is rarely able to acquire a data connection. Again, this is not the case with other phones the SIM is tried on.
Any suggestions? I've spent probably close to 10 hours researching this and trying everything out and I am absolutely stumped. This is my mom's phone and a replacement Alcatel OneTouch Fierce 2 just "doesn't look nice", so I'm getting a fair bit of *****ing for trying to help solve this, even though it's not my fault. Would appreciate some help before Christmas.
Have you tried updating the modem?

I'd say so. Used this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880987 and flashed the 4.3 basebands for T999L and T999N, total of 3. I'm thinking this is something to do with the 4.3 bootloader or basebands... any methods to go back to 4.1.2 without a brick?
tagging this for later use:

If you have a T999L stick to the designated T999L modems and nothing else, or you may damage the device. If you have a 4.3 bootloader there is no way back. Have you tried to use ODIN to flash the latest NF4 firmware for your T999L and then do a factory reset using the stock recovery? I posted NF4's link in this post. Good luck.

Downloading right now, and will test. Pretty sure this is the firmware update after which this problem started occurring.
Any other ideas for what might be affecting this besides baseband? I have a feeling something else might be causing this. I'm not familiar with Samsung partitions though and what is flashed by OTA/Odin.

Well, OTA updates can sometimes fail, that's why I gave you the ODIN firmware link. It's the best help I can offer.

[Q] Ok to flash a new ROM from stock/root 4.1.1 bootloader?

It's been a while since I flashed a rom. I thought I would play around with some ROM's today, but I'm getting overwhelmed by the contradictory information out there, regarding bootloaders, wifi patches, kernel flashes etc. Not that it's misinformation, but I just don't know if it's implied that the bootloader on the install instructions have been updated to 4.1.2 or higher before moving forward with flash.
I'm on a rooted T-mo/T889 Galaxy Note 2 with stock 4.1.1 and UVALL4. I flashed TWRP on it a few months ago, when I was looking into installing DN3 rom.
It seems to me that the instructions for installing DN4 (which is what I'm looking at today) might assume my device is updated to latest firmware.
So I'm wondering where to start. Do I need to update bootloader, or can I just move forward with electronteam's install instructions flash DN4 with addon patch? Or even more broader terms, can I flash a 4.4.4 + rom from a 4.1.1 firmware?

You're good to go with DN4... just flash Dn4 and addon. The only thing is, Dn4 has issues with GPS. So, if you need/use this often, you may want to stick with DN3. Oh yeah, update your TWRP to newest (2.8.5.0) since it's been a few months since you installed it. And after you get it set up, update to the newest Agni kernel... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602053
Thanks.
I went ahead with DN4, and sure enough, I have no GPS.
A more troubling issue I'm having is that my data/phone signal just randomly gone. I live in a city with LTE , and have no coverage issues here. Sometimes a restart will remedy it, but only for a short while. I'm going to flash this Latest Agni, Maybe that will fix it. EDIT: Nope, still happening. Changing Network Mode back and forth between LTE and WCDMA/GSM seems to be easier than rebooting though.

No SIM after modem firmware update

I was happily using 4.4.2 stock on my rooted SGH-i747M, however rooting it tripped the warranty bit, then I had the phone unlocked and changed carriers from Rogers to Bell and because of either of those my device is blacklisted from getting OTA updates.
I decided to try CM and was advised on the CM IRC channel to update the modem firmware first. I updated (or perhaps downgraded?) to I747MUMUEND3 per this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898) and rebooted but found that I no longer had sound or WIFI and the SIM card wasn't detected. I tried other versions from that same thread with no luck.
I went ahead and flashed CM 12.1 nightly for D2ATT which worked well, however still no sound or SIM. WIFI works but slowly. I also tried 11.2 for D2LTE but got the same result, and flashing 10.1 for D2ATT gave me an assert error. In 12.1 I experimented with other modem firmware versions (I747MVLUEMK5, I747MUMUEND3, I747MVLUEND2) but it made no difference.
I'm not quite sure where to go from here. According to a CM12.1 debug log my boot loader is I747MVLUFNF2. Do I need to match the modem firmware version with this, and if so, where can I get this version? Would flashing stock from sammobile do it, would I lose root while doing so, and how can I get root back? I forget how I rooted it originally but soft bricked it but fixed it with chainfire.
Anything else I can try at this point? I might just be happy back on stock with cellular connectivity.
The latest modem for the i747m is FOB1. The END2 modem is about a year behind the FOB1.
The assert error occurred because d2lte or d2can ROMs are to be flashed to the i747m.
Fixed
I flashed the stock ROM that matched up with my current bootloader version. Inside the stock ROM everything worked as normal. I then installed TWRP and flashed 12.1 and everything worked in there as well.
