Still working on mine running 5.1.1, also. Aside from the fact I can't find the 'no lock screen' app, or whatever it's called, FoxFi is working AOK. I even did a factory reset, even though the phone was working fine, to try to confirm a battery issue I think I was having where it would seem to drain a bit faster after upgrading from 4.4.4 to 5.1.1 with a slight layover at 5.0.1, where if I remember right, I didn't unplug the phone, I think, before moving on to 5.1.1. I'm copying the backup I made of the internal storage back to the phone right now, and after that I'll perform a full apps+data restore with Helium, since the internal storage is where the backup is. Hopefully, that 'no lock screen' thing will either reappear, or I'll find it again on my computer or here on XDA. The last time I had to deal with using FoxFi unlocked, it drove me nuts not being able to the lock screen I prefer.

Thanks for the link. As soon as I clicked download, I found the thing in my OneDrive downloads folder:silly: By the way, if you've never used Helium to backup/restore your apps before, it'd kind of goofy. For some reason, whenever I use it, it sometimes wants to make me run the procedure multiple times. Like earlier today when I performed a full apps+data backup, it did the whole thing in one go. But when trying to restore them, it wanted to hang on a certain game for a while, after which it stopped with 88 apps left to restore. It should all still work, but this is the first time I tried restoring a backup with Helim, so hopefully the way it's making me work it right now won't be a problem. If it does, I may just have to resort to using My Backup to backup the apps and Helium to backup the data, unless there's a better backup/restore app that does what Helium does, but a bit more reliably.
Is working now, I did a factory reset and reinstall everything . I backup everything first with Helium....

So I'm not entirely sure where to start with this one. I'm running myn's roms... was on RLS3 and went to update to RLS4 the other day. Did a nandroid backup via clockwork/ROM manager. The install of the new ROM took forever (over 30 minutes) and when it finished, for whatever reason clockwork didn't restart automatically like it usually does. When I did reboot the unit, it hung forever (I actually left it plugged in and booting while I took an hour nap)... so I finally rebooted it into recovery and restored my backup.
When the backup loaded I reset the phone, and the image was very broken. Actually to be fair, the image seemed fine... except for whatever system android uses to keep track of installed apps was corrupted. Most of my apps were missing, including core google ones. The marketplace, all of my file browsing apps (astro and root explorer) and even things like live wallpapers and maps were missing.
Next, I tried several things, including doing a fresh wipe and install of a working ROM (tried both myn 2 and 3) and then tried restoring my backup again... no matter what the backup took me to this point (and yes I understand why that is... I was just hoping that the restore wasn't actually restoring some file that the ROM would put back... as unlikely as that was).
So at this point I'm over losing all my stuff to reinstall ... but I really want to keep my text messages and call history. I can't get anything installed to back them up though... since the market is missing, as well as anything like astro, etc. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for extracting the SMS/MMS and call history stuff out of the backup I have... or getting them backed up somehow when I'm loaded into my botched recovery. I still have full internet, call and SMS access... so if there were some web-based backup I could even run that (although I don't think there is). I'm at a bit of a loss... I'd really like to get the data I want backed up before I start new. At the moment I'm still using the phone as I can still get core functionality.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know. Thanks!
install AMON recovery to do your NAND's, install SMS backup and that will save your texts, and titanium backup any apps you want saved with data. thats how i do it, oh and install app brain as well to keep track of your installed apps

It sucked when romanger and clock work broke for me. Never again.
Clock doesn't wipe correctly. Search it.
Thanks... appreciate the reply... although still hoping someone can point me in the right direction to get what I currently have backed up considering the half-broken state my phone is currently in... either getting it out of the backup file somehow or somehow getting stuff installed on my phone without a market or a file manager.
If you flash the rom overtop of itself you want lose anything, so try that

So oddly enough that didn't work in of itself... but it did start me in the right direction. Most of my apps were still missing, but for whatever reason reflashing the rom made Astro re-appear in my app drawer. From there I browsed to the system/app folder and was able to install MyBackup Pro over itself somehow. I ran that to backup all my user data and wiped clean. My texts and other data are restoring right now on the fresh image.
So clockwork is definitely the culprit? What's a good alternative? I got used to using that for so long, I'm not even sure what else is out there anymore.
Thanks for your help G'man!
Go to clockwork and down at the bottom click install alternate recovery, viola

I searched the forum for something similar to no avail, so if I missed it, I apologize. So I had been running CM 6 stable for a month and everything was great. Hadn't upgraded kernels, or any other modifications. Turned my phone off for the night last night, and when it came back on, stuck in bootloop for no good reason why. So, oh well, I'll just flash a new ROM, no big deal, then tried CM7RC, it boots, I use titanium backup to restore everything, it all works well, until I reboot the phone again, and bam, right back to bootloop, but this time with CM7. I'm completely out of ideas, any help would be appreciated. I've wiped davlik, cache, did factory reset, everything I can think of.
Thanks ahead of time.
Try fixing permissions in recovery, if that fails then try wiping ALL data and installing CM again. If that doesn't work, try a Sense ROM, it might be an AOSP problem
so here's an update to my problem so far. What I had left out earlier was that I could install a new ROM, and I could reboot my phone and it would work fine. Not until I used Titanium Backup and restored all of my apps and settings did I run into a problem. With that said, I did as PGleo86 said. This time, it worked just as it had before. Phone was fine, until I restored data. So I thought about what I had installed last. So the last time I wiped everything and installed CM7, I used Titanium Backup, but this time I omitted a few programs and settings, namely, Amazon App Store and Angry Birds Rio. This time when I rebooted, it worked fine. So I am slowly going to restore the settings, apps, and data I omitted one at a time and reboot my phone to see if any of them put me into boot loop. Has anyone heard of anything like this before? Particularly with Amazon App Store or Angry Birds Rio? (I did recently upgrade my version of Swype as well)

From what I understand, its restoring the data that is killin it. You can restore all the apps you like, but when you start restoring data, it seriously screws with alot of roms. You will keep having the issue as long as your restoring data. Good luck dude
This may take a while but try reloading a few apps at a time to see which on in particular is causing the issue. I saw a post like this somewhere on this massive forum, but the person found out it was one app that was killing the boot process.
Different roms store data in different places. So titanium is writing data to somewhere it shouldn't be.
Woke up today just to see that Titanium Backup had crashed during the scheduled backup tonight. Since then i haven't been able to do anything with it!
Sometimes it crashes right off the start, sometimes i can start a backup and have it crash about ~12-14% in. I tried going in to the settings and checking the "AUTO, indirect" setting that they recommend if you're having problems, but that didn't help either. (And it took me 3 tries to get in to the settings without it crashing!)
I've tried wiping all the app data, re-installing it, installing an older version (that they suggest on their website if having issues). I also tried re-setting the super user permissions for it. None of which helps!
I haven't found any information on it yet, so i assume i'm alone with this? Have anyone else been having the same issue?
Just emailed the support, but i imagine it will take at least a week for them to reply (if they do).
So, any suggestions?
EDIT: I just timed it and it appears to crash after approx 30 seconds, no matter what i do in the application. I Hope the developers sees this.
DOUBLE EDIT: It appears to be working again after updating to v4.9.0.1.
I don't do scheduled backups but the app hasn't failed me yet doing it manually.
well id suggest connecting to your pc and backup the titaniumbackup folder (that way you know all your backups are safe)
then making a nandroid backup
then flashing another ROM or just wiping and reflashing the same ROM you're using

The backups i have stored are outdated now, i've changed a lot since the last update. The plan all along was to do a titanium backup, sync it to dropbox, flash this rom, and then restore all my apps etc. So i'm really kind of out of options now, unless i download everything manually and set everything up again. Doesn't sound very fun tbh. I might just try to find an alternative to titanium, but i'd really like to get it working again. Nothing seems to help.
You are not alone!
Hi, just to say you are not alone. Your case 99% similar to mine.
Just encountered this freeze after the app update on 18/19 Mar and the app will freeze even when I do nothing in the app. And yes, what a coincidence, the app when backup under schedule has stopped (with screen save off) at 14% completion.
Tried the method of deleting the app data and reinstall the app and even worse, now the app stops right when launching after a moment of black screen.
Already filed email and log file to support hopefully there will be an answer...
Hi, I'm also having exactly the same problem with TBU. Am on the pro version.
This has been a problem for about a week now. Not sure if it doesn't play nicely with CM9 or the kernel i'm running. What are you guys running? I may re-flash stock ICS and see if it still gives me problems. Quick question, does reflashing stock ICS remove root? I read somewhere it does and just want to get some different opinons.
Am running a CM9 nightly with Franco Kernal on GMS Galaxy Nexus.

I am also on pro version. Mine is at stock 4.0.2.
And yes, if you re-flash stock you lose root and have to re-root.
I am very very suspecting the crash is something related to the license checking of pro-key so that will explain why the program will crash in 20-30 sec without any special action doing or launching in the app. Just my guess... Hope the support will answer back shortly...
Thanks for the help, have uninstalled for now, will you post if the dev gets back to you?
Interesting that it's happening across a range of different setups.

So here's a question for you guys.....................
I have the HTC One M8 and am rooted and S-OFF, as well as ViperOne M8 and Titanium Backup.
Whenever I get an update from Team Venom for ViperOne, I notice it says just as it's finishing the reboot (post-install) that it's upgrading my apps. So does that mean that the backups that I have (for my apps) which are stored in Titanium Backup are no longer current? I don't think the upgrade process affects the backed up data that was done pre-install, so it seems like that data would be outdated at this point?
Please answer if you think you know.
Thank You,

No it doesn't, usually when developers release a new ROM update they also update all of their stock apps on their ROM to the newest versions. Because of that, when you reboot it tends to say that because it is updating the apps for it and or caching them. (this is to my knowledge of how it works, still though your backups are fine)
Hopefully you are only talking user installed apps? Is not a good idea to be restoring system apps.
correct, YOUR apps, that you backed up to TB are current as of the day you backed them up.
once you restore them, via TB, then of course, open play store, and let it check and see if there are any updates to YOUR previously backed up apps.

It is updating any apps that come with the ROM such as the HTC TV app or other HTC apps, TB is not included because it is not one of the pre-loaded apps that the developer included with the ROM. Also as stated above, the TB backups are not touched by this, they stay the same as they were when you made them soo you have to update the backups yourself if you wanted to.
Shadowz,
Ok, that's what I thought. I just needed to hear you say it in a different way to be sure. lol
So anytime there's a new update, I'm gonna need to re-backup all the apps with TB then. Seems like TB is only good if you mess something up and wanna restore the apps' data. When you're just doing an incremental update, or especially a full ROM install, then it's useless. I may just uninstall it.
Thanks Shadowz!

THIS is the proper way to use TB...
I've used TB for years. After flashing clean, I just restore my user apps, data also for some and aside from a few system settings.... I'm right back how I was.
I use Nova, so restoring it's settings puts my home screens right back how they were too.
Not sure why people would want to mess with Nandroid data restores when this whole process above takes hardly any time and never brings issues. ?

Hi KJ,
Yeah I noticed that too as I also have Nova.
So you're saying you never do any nandroid backups? Interesting. Where do you save the TB backup files? I don't like saving them on internal storage, so I just transfer them to a flash drive or OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive).

I occasionally do a nandroid. Only for a full restore. And usually just before wiping and Flashing something. I don't always, cause I can flash roms or stock manually just as easy.
And I just keep my TB backups on the device.

KJ,
I see. Ok. I'm still gonna do them, but more for emergencies than anything.
I did that but then one time recently something happened and my internal storage got wiped clean. I save a copy on my external SD card, but then I thought "what if my phone got lost?", and decided to just store it on flash or cloud. Just wish TB would let you store it on THEIR own server so you don't have to worry about doing it manually or automatically elsewhere. The options they have like Google Drive don't offer as much space. I have Google Drive but don't want to give up the space. And I think DropBox is only 1 GIG? There is that Titanium variant that stores them automatically for only $2.99, but that got bad reviews.
Thanks,
RockStar2005
I've used TB for a few years now (paid version). I use it mainly to backup my user data just in case. Right now my M8 is stock (just got it and I wait until my warrenty is up before rooting etc) so I'm not really using it now. When I do root I'll be able to take my user data from a few games I'm playing on my rooted Transformer Prime and put the data on my phone. That's really the only thing I use TB for execpt for freezing bloatware so I can unfreeze, use Voodo Root Keeper (if it works on the device) and get OTA's. User data is always my biggest priority. I can reinstall any apps from the play store. Yes, this can take some time but doing it this way, when I f-up I can pick and choose what apps I put back on and leave off apps that I installed in the past but never use anymore. To each is own I guess. One good example was about a year ago Google updated the standard music app. I hated it. It screwed up all my album art and I hated the new interface. I used TB to restore the older version and it was like it never happened.

something like this I knew from my good old I9300. Might be a supersu thing. Although I read somewhere, twrp for the M9 seems not to write to system partition.
As I got my M9 yesterday, I'm still staying away from debranding and unlocking stuff atm.

Rooted. There are limitations. \system is not writeable, as was initially on the M8 until insecure kernels were released here. Titanium Backup can't write to removable sdcard yet. I still have a hornet's nest of diagnostic software running and I have to give it a wide berth because logging is required on test devices.
Wonder if anyone there will notice what I've done after the overnight logs......

TWRP can mount the system partition; I got myself into plenty of trouble yesterday as a result and had to do a factory reset. The good news, however, was that doing so wiped internal memory and its infernal encryption. (I had encrypted the internal sdcard at the request of HTC during the testing process). Apparently, you can encrypt and unencrypt the removable media willy nilly (although you'll get a layered effect where files stored during encryption can't be read unless the card is encrypted or re-encrypted), but you cannot unencrypt the internal sdcard without a factory reset. I have politely suggested that they make that fact abundantly clear in the user i/o for encryption, 'cause it isn't now.
I'm on stock recovery for now, but I'll probably return to TWRP shortly so I can do nandroids.
The \system partition, however is still unwriteable from within the ROM. I few folks I know are working on a workaround, but I haven't seen anything definitive yet.
Keep in mind, also, that this is a test device and there are certain "gotcha's" such as another copy of supersu somewhere in the system to run all the diagnostic software --- the result is that a \data only nandroid would require 23gigs at this point. Not gonna do it, wouldn't be prudent.
Hanging here too and also won't freeze apps.
I know SuperSU is there and working correctly because I have successfully modified files on the system partition
- permissions\platform.xml
- that damn boot up sound
Stay gone after reboot too, stock boot.img as well.
Same issue here ... Unlocked Bootloader, root access and TTB hangs at 0% no matter how long you wait.
But I helped myself with a little work around:
Go to TTB Settings; on the very bottom theres a setting if problems during restore occure. Change it to the classic install method. You have to validate every single app install, but hey ... As long there's no other way, fine with me

Hello,
I am wondering if anyone is able to restore Viber properly. I am having some strange results when I restore it. I am able to restore it using the old method mentioned here, and the app is restored with data. The problem comes when I open the app once. As soon as I open it it shows all my messages for a second then kind of resets itself, and asks for a verification code again. I have no other option then entering the code (the program acts like a fresh install). After that all my messages are gone (though the call log and contacts are still there). Feel like I have to relearn all over again. Any help is appreciated.
I have tried multiple things:
1. Restore using old method mentioned here
2. Installed from Play store, then restored only data
3. Tried making a update.zip and restoring from recovery
4. Tried to just restore about 5 times in a row ( don't think this really didn't anything, once should be enough to put the data there)
Thanks,

Chiming in. Same issue. Unlocked, rooted, TiBu & key installed, hangs on any restore. I tried auto/indirect and that didn't help. "classic mode" worked, although in some cases I still had to do a data restore after doing an app+data restore for some apps.
same thing. unlocked, rooted ti pro installed hangs on any restore. will restore data if i install the app then restore data (some apps I have older apps + data & cant do this tho).
auto / indirect but no dice.
I can't get TB to backup to my SD card. It keeps saying it can't write to it. Anyone know what the issue is?
I believe I fixed the hang issue and will contact the Dev to build it in. I'll provide a zip soon and instructions.
