T0lteatt recovery on t0ltecan - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have a rogers Canadian note 2 and have been out of the game for a while(over a year) and can't remember if it's safe to use the t0lteatt recovery on the Canadian model. I know the roms are interchangeable but not sure on the recovery and mine is very outdated. It's just that I prefer cwm and they don't have a t0ltecan version so I figured I'd check. If not I'll use TWRP but yeah.

Tolteatt & Toltecan should both work for you.

Should as in you're sure or as in best guess?

Here if you want to use Philz Touch CWM, T0lte is there , which I use for my I317M

Touch recovery for S3 on Rogers

Hi,
is there a touch recovery on S3 if we are on Rogers? If so which version?
Thanks.
Rogers, don't know. The att s3 has a touch version, cwm 6.0.1.4. It's available through Rom Manager.
Pretty sure anything for at&t version is compatible with the rogers version. I know the recoveries for the us varients although seperated, can bd flashed on any of them. Like I'm on sprint but can flash a tmo or att recovery just fine so this should do ya. Flashable in mobile odin
http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.1.4-d2att.img
Or
Flash this in recovery-- https://dl.dropbox.com/s/8czkpmqklb0q3pb/CWM-Touch.zip?dl=1
The Rogers model is the same as the AT&T model, so you can use v6.0.1.4 touch.
You can get the image here.
You could also try out twrp recovery here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29250690

Telus Model - SGH-i317M

i got pretty good at flashing stuff for my galaxy nexus, but now as a note II owner I feel like a total noob.
i have the Telus Model - SGH-i317M. is that the same model for At&T ... all At&T flashing/rooting guides would work for me?
can I flash the international firmware? by doing so, will that mean I get official samsung updates faster?

I would also backup your modem with twrp recovery, so if you run into problems, you can just restore. Also some roms are based on the Canadian note 2 as well.

Does the Canadian version work fine regardless if the Canadian carrier is Telus or Rogers?
Is cf-auto root a recovery tool? If so, only 1 of those 3 would be needed right.... Because no sense in 3 recovery tools? Any recommendations please which would be the best one for me?

Cf-auto root roots your phone, it doesn't install any recoveries. Here's the thread, just download the Canadian version and flash with Odin (yes it works with telus/bell/rogers) . http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33854391
Then, if you want to flash custom roms then you need to install either Cwm or twrp recovery. Recommend twrp.
You can install twrp by installing goo manager via play store or download the file to flash with Odin.

After you're rooted, if you install goo manager, it can install twrp automatically. I'm guessing there must be some variance to have a Canadian version.
Just search for nandroid backup for twrp recovery which is a complete backup. Lots of guides and YouTube videos if you search for it or someone can point you to one.

No problem. Well first I would only install firmwares that are in the i317 Devs section.
To answer your question, root > install recovery >do a nandroid backup!>install custom roms
I wouldn't rush into things though before your really comfortable doing so and understand it.

Custom roms are firmwares. There are some roms that are ported from international firmwares and made to work for our version of note 2. All the compatible roms/firmwares are in the AT&T dev's section here, just make sure you read all the instructions and you can always ask them the question in they're thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1874
In any case, I would do a lot more research and reading. There are bunch of guides and tutorials.

I just started playing with the Galaxy Note 2's as well this weekend (all Rogers i317m). Rooted 5 of them, and installed custom roms on 3 of them. All in all much easier than jailbreaking iphones. That said, this forum has been a wealth of information. I've tried a few roms and really like the International Stock Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016575. I will try Clean Rom next.
This is what I've done, and it's been a snap :
1. Put your phone into Odin Download mode, and root the phone using ODIN and the cwm6-root-note2.tar file (clockworkmod-there's some youtube videos on how to do this)
2. Download the custom rom you wish to flash to your phone (eg download directory)
3. Boot your phone into CWM recovery mode
4. Make a BACKUP rom of your existing phone (good for recovery, if you didn't back up all your contacts, sms, apps, etc....this is like TIMEMACHINE and saves to your phone's CWM directory).
5. Erase / Wipe Data (this does not erase your photos/videos, just basically the OS).
6. Flash ROM from ZIP (from your download directory)
7. Erase cache
8. Reboot to your new Custom Rom!
9. If you don't like the new Custom Rom, you can always boot back into CWM and restore from the BACKUP rom.
10. I highly recommend looking into Titanium Backup and SMS Backup, as well as syncing your contacts to GMAIL.
Good luck

I just get an T999 S3 from TMobile, already SIM unlock, Root.
Already have downloaded CM 10.1.2 d2tmo Stable ROM, also downloaded Gapps 20130812, CMW/Odin Files.
My main question wash if is really necessary have the Bootloader Unlocked? or I can just proceed installing all on the right order...
1) Flash CWM with Odin
2) Copy CM and Gapps files on MicroSD
3) Reboot on CWM
4) Wipe all
5) Install .zip files CM10.1.2 and Gapps
And I believe Im ready...is that OK?
If I want to return to stock ROM..I have to just install via Odin the Stock ROM? Or there is something else.
First time on CM I hope someone en-light me.
Thanks a Lot!!!

Yep, Odin will put the stock rom back on for you. You will lose all your data though, so make a backup.
Also, I think it's rude to hijack someone's thread. Make you own with your own question.

If you have the T999/T999L/T999N, you should stick with what was made for that device. Metro was recently bought by tmobile. Previously, the S3 for that network was SPH-R530 or something like that.
most likely the cwm and cm for metro were made for that older model device. When T-Mobile took over, the Metro S3's are now T999N which for our purposes is identical to the T999L. (Read my thread linked in my sig). If you have the older model metro s3, use cm built for it. If yours is T999 variant, use that version instead.

That CM was likely for the old ?Sprint? variant for metro. I wouldn't use it on the new one. d2tmo should work.
And odin won't wipe your data, but you will have to factory reset, which will.

I am Running a 4.1 What do I need to do to update to 4.4

OK, so I have been rooted almost a year, and have flashed several roms. I am currently on 4.1 of I believe Hybrid's rom. I believe I have had a 4.3 at one time but my last flash, whenever I started trying to flash a 4.4 version I started running into problems along the way. Is there anything special I need to do to upgrade to 4.4? Like besides flashing the rom, is there anything else I need to flash? Anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks!

No one still has answered lol. I tried to flash a few different 4.3's and they kept failing. I'm using TWRP or whatever it's called 2.6.0.0 not sure what that's about. I had to flash an older rom I had on my computer to get it to allow my phone to work.
I prefer using CWM or Philz Touch which is based on CWM rather than TWRP. I tried TWRP with a few ROMs but they always failed to install. Once I switched to CWM, they installed without issue. You can flash the tar version of Philz using Odin.
http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2att
To run 4.4.2 ROMs, you should update to the latest 4.1.2 bootloader, load a custom recovery, boot into recovery, wipe cache, Dalvik, data, system, and flash the new ROM.

I already updated my bootloader to the one that said "you cannot downgrade from this one or you will brick your device" I think that's the latest one I'm not sure lol.
By "Boot into recovery" are you meaning boot to the recovery screen? Sorry, I like to make sure of what I am doing so I don't brick anything lol. Although in a month I'm buying the Note 3 .
How do I go about switching back to CWM? Sorry to ask and sound dumb -- which I am not I have an associates of science in computer programming but just reciently switched to Mechatronic Engineering due to higher job growth in my area. I digress.
I could probably find dozens of articles on here how to go about it, but its generally quicker if someone just posts the link to the correct one to use for my device, every time I go searching these forms, I end up on every-which phone other than mine -- I do apologize.
You need the newest version of cwm to flash anything 4.4.
If you're rooted use goomanager from play store it will install cwm or look in the stickies there are files and instructions.

Can anyone on the I747M verify it is safe to flash the D2ATT recovery? I do know for a fact you guys can use any of our roms.

Go to the general section and read the stickies here is a quote from the recovery thread I have heavily clipped it you need to read the whole thing in its original form. From what I read it is safe for your phone to use the D2ATT recovery image, I however take no responsibility for any thing that happens successful or not if you you flash it you wear it...

So you've got your device rooted, and you want to install a custom recovery? Great! Don't just follow any guide you stumble across though, as some of the early recovery packages for the "AT&T" model were actually just copies of the custom Sprint recovery, and then you'll have all sorts of fun trying to install ROMs. ("Status 7" errors anyone? )
While this may seem difficult, it's really not. Grab a recovery image (these files end in ".img") such as ClockWork Mod (CWM) or Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) for your device. Most ROM developers say to use CWM, but they both work equally well.
In our case, we need an image for the Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T. Telus, Rogers, Bell, and SaskTel phones are (almost*) the exact same phone as AT&T, if you have one of these devices, you will be installing the AT&T recovery.
*NOTE: While we're on the topic, let's take a second to talk about what makes the Canadian I747M different from the AT&T I747.
The short version is... The modem. AT&T is using completely different and incompatible modem firmware in their phones when compared with the Canadian models. Rogers, Bell, Telus, and any other Canadian I747M are the same device (Samsung worked some strange voodoo and got all the Canadian carriers to agree on the same hardware!) which means that if Rogers releases a new modem firmware update, a SaskTel user could install it without issue. AT&T modem updates will not work on Canadian models, nor will Canadian updates work on AT&T phones! I've tried it. Trust me. You don't want to deal with the hassle of fixing it.

So in on word I can't really do anything with my rooted phone ?? When you flash a rom does it change anything to the modem file ?

[Q] Have some questions...

Hey guys I am going to flash the Paranoid rom on my Galaxy S3 from Sprint. Some details you may need to know are the following: SPH-l710, Android 4.4.2, Stock everything (rom, bootloader?, etc.). Here is what I need answered:
-difference between d2spr and d2lte (I think I have a d2spr since it is from Sprint and all I know is that d2lte is an international model)
-can a d2lte rom be flashed on a d2spr? If not, what would happen
-do i have to unlock the bootloader (if so please leave a link to a successful guide on how to do it )
Any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

d2lte is the term for all the S3 (NOT INTERNATIONAL) as they were unified builds, works on Virgin, Boost, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon. But this is only for KitKat ROMs, they de-unified for Lollipop.

Just flash Philz recovery via ODIN, do your necessary wipes, flash your ROM and GAPPS. (Follow the OP for the ROM you wasn't to install)
Thanks really helped a bunch. Now just so I don't mess up:
(I didn't mention it up there but im bearlu gonna root using odin)
1. Root
2. Flash custom recovery (or does it have to be philz)
3.Flash Paranoid d2lte via custom recovery + gapps
Correct or will my device explode? ?

If you're gonna flash a custom recovery via ODIN you don't need to root first.
2. Flash custom recovery (or does it have to be philz)

It doesn't HAVE to be Philz, but a lot of people have mounting issues with recoveries like TWRP. I use Philz exclusively and have had zero issues flashing anything.
?I got confused now that my brain started functioning. Doesn't the bootloader have yo be unlocked in order to enter your custom recovery? Sorry for my nooby questions but the Knox thing and the hardbricking has me in doubt.
