I've looked around all the threads, does someone have a method out for getting to OL1 without reatoring to factory settings and running the OTA? Thanks
Odin OL1 tar from here.

I flashed my Epic to EC05 using the official google zip, downloaded from google. The system About Phone shows the following:
FIrmware Version - 2.21
Baseband Version S700.0.5S.EC05
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build Number FROYO.EC05
Hardware Version D700.0.5
So clearly the updated worked, yet I continually get the standard OTA update notification for EC05. When I click restart and restall it reboots into CWM and then the signature verification fails. Anyone know how to fix this?
I would try flashing using Odin and the tar for EC05.
Pretty good Odin tutorial here:

EDIT
Ooops....looks like the tar is not available for stock EC05....in that case...odin back to eb13 and do OTA update to ec05.
EB13 stock tar can be found here:

Cool...didn't realize someone posted such a detailed thread on this. Definitely the one to use.
I want to un-root my at&t s3 that has stock ICS so I can take the JB OTA update. Found the instructions and a .tar file. After Odin completed, the phone is still rooted. Ran Odin with the .tar file again and the phone was still rooted. I guess the .tar file that was posted was already rooted. Can someone please point me to the "stock" ICS file to flash? I have tried Googling for it and I have searched XDA. Any help would be truly appreciated.
Thanks

why not just flash the JB stock firmware?

Quick search (It's a stickie)
I am on firmware 4.3 that I rooted a while ago. I would like to unroot 4.3 however I cannot figure out how. I thought I could flash stock 4.3 via Odin but there are no .tar versions of 4.3. Help?

Do you have the full stock version of 4.3 or the modified (unrooted) version? You can check your phone's settings and build number to see if it's MJB or MJ2. You can try unrooting from the SuperSU app. The definitive solution to unrooting is indeed to flash a complete stock image. An Odin flashable *.tar file was recently developed. There have, however, been reports on outcome. You can flash custom recovery to your phone (either of CWM or TWRP) and use the instructions in the thread below to download and flash a complete stock restore.

What ever version was before 4.4.2 FJN1 that I have now to get rid of being rooted etc. Surely version before this still has locked boot loaders I can return to?

There is no ODIN .tar file for NJ1, at&t never released one. It was just an OTA update which was pointless because it didn't make anything better from the previous NE4 firmware. Have you tried doing factory data reset?
I have a guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/general/how-to-restore-device-status-to-t2832880
It's for Android 4.3, but should also work on 4.4
