Short ring while in vibrate mode. - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

New to android here. Not sure if this is an android or nexus/stock rom thing but when I have my phone in vibrate mode and I get a phone call, it vibrates for the duration of the first ring then stops. I can barely differentiate it from vibration for notification. How can I get it to vibrate continuously until the phone stops ringing or at least for few more rings?
I keep getting missed calls because of this.
I think this happens when you don't have your phone in vibrate mode and enabled the "Also vibrate for calls" option.

Okay. I've just found out that this only happens if I have the cover of my flip case closed. I think it acts as if I clicked the lock button to silence the ring. If I have the cover open then it keeps vibrating then it becomes silenced when I close the cover.
OMG... what am I gonna do. I don't think google will try to fix this. Can android differentiate between the screen being lock via the lock button or the flipcase cover?

Which flip case do you have? I have the Folio case. I've asked my co-worker who has a Nexus 5 with an official flip case and it happens on it as well.
Looks like this is a known issue:
Short vibrate with LG Quick Cover - https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/PjCeMyL_wSo

Position sensor or something?

Ok, it seems there is a position sensor in TyTN (correct me if I'm wrong). When my phone is in its case on my belt and it's turned on (usually by a call), it's rotated (as if the keyboard's open). It takes too long time for it to rotate, and I can't answer the call until it rotates back to normal. So my question is, can this sensor be turned off, or is there other thing, that makes the screen to rotate and eventually how can I solve the problem? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I'm useing Schap's ROM, but the problem existed in the official rom, and the Black rom, and the official WM5 rom
no position sensor that I know of and I have never had this problem :s

Yeah, there is a position sensor on the hermes. It's a magnetic sensor that detects whether the keyboard is open or not.
The problem is most likely your case. I've heard of issues like yours. The magnetic snap on the case fools the hermes into thinking the keyboard is open.
I don't believe that there is a fix to bypass the sensor, as it is hardware. But I may be wrong. If not then you might need to look at another case that uses velcro or something.

ah now that would make sense, i never use that stupid case that comes with it, they are really ugly! so that would explain why i never noticed it.
My wife came up with a great solution when I had this poblem (standard case causing phone to start in landscape) - turn the phone the other way round! Now I have the screen facing my belt and the phone is ALWAYS in portrait when I get it out.
Sounds silly, but try it - it works!
Yep, that's a sollution, but there is one other detail. There's no other position I can plug the earphones .

Solution..... Bluetooth Headphones.
It appears to be a magnetic switch...
Your case must have a strong magnet on it, I can't get it to effect the switch if the phone is completely closed. Only if I have it partially open.

I have exactly the same problem. Also, my phone is NEVER put into standby before closing the keyboard.
I'm going to try storing it with the screen facing towards my belt.
I simply use Brando case and HTC BT S-100 headset. and never have a problem with phone starting in landscape.

I've come to notice that no one REALLY knew how to fully disable screen rotation on WM devices.
Some offered 3rd party apps to get the job done, some only knew how to disable automatic rotation, but when the device went into standby and woke up again - the screen rotated back. So that didnt really work.
So if you're as desperate as i was about screen rotation,
this is what you need to do:
1. Get dotfred's free taskmanager HERE, and run it.
2. Go to "Devices" tab, and look for "MIS1:" device (oem_misc.dll)
3. Long-Tap on it, and tap on "Stop"
4. Long-Tap on it again, and now choose "Set Manual"
5. Go to "Notifications" tab, and look for "Notifications\NamedEvents\VCPowerWakeupEvent"
6. Tap on it to make it selected
7. Disable it
(In dotfred's taskmanager, there should be a button for disabling it, but for some reason some devices couldn't see the button icons, although the buttons are still clickable. Under the notifications list there is an empty light-blue line - the buttons are there, eventough you can't see them.
The disable buttons is somewhere i the middle of that light-blue line, just tap the center until a message box popps up and asks if you'd like to disable this notification - Tap on yes.)All those steps are a one time deal - they stick even after an SR.
This has been tested on htc universal and works great.
The screen will keep its orientation even if you flip your screen, take out your built in keyboard, or turn the device off and back on.
The only time your screen will revert back to the original orientation is when you soft reset your device.
Hope this helps

It's also the way to receive less radiation in your body, because the GSM antenna is pointing away from your waist.

I can, and I used a Tesla-meter to measure them:
in-between the two magnets of the case and the lid, there are around 150 mT (Millitesla) which is pretty much!
for comparison:
a usual horseshoe magnet would have 1 mT, the magnetic field of the earth has about 0,05 mT!

Clock Lock

Hello, I wasn't able to find anything but does anyone know of any settings or a program that will lock the clock on the home screen. The phone unlocks in my holster or pocket and i always hit the clock and keep changing the time.
Random thought/stupid question. I assume that you are using the built in "lock" and not just turning the screen off correct? I know others have had problems with a magnetic latching case activating the "you pulled your stylus out sensor." It shouldn't be a problem with you keeping your phone in your pocket, but if it's just in the case when this happens try getting a case that uses something other than magnets as the catch.
Personally I love this little gem:
Smartlock
After you install it, you can find it under Settings > System. You can set it to lock the screen when you push the power button, when it fades out by itself, even when someone calls you. Very handy.
Also you can install this one here to make the lockscreen look alot better:
Dusk 6.5 lockscreen
I use both and I'm very happy with it

Actually i just wanted something in general. Just cuz the clock doesnt need to be changed all the time and i always hit it and it always goes into the clock settings or my alarm clock settings.
Good luck =)
the only way to change the behavior of this is to mod the lua file that controls it!! usually not fun or easy to do

Create an unlock password and it will not unlock in your pocket or holster. Problem is that without a password, the phone will unlock when it thinks the keyboard is slid out. It can think this if 1) keyboard is slid out 2) phone come in close proximity with a magnet (some holsters have magnetic covers)

Phone answers itself when removing from pocket

I keep my desire in my shirt pocket with screen facing my body. The problem is touch screen seems to work through my shirt, so when the phone is ringing the motion of me removing the phone pulls down on the lock and answers the phone.
Is there anything that can be done to reduce the screen sensitivity so it doesn't work through my shirt touching my skin.
Thanks
Yeah have the screen facing outwards LOL.
put it in a case for protection too like the pdair pouch or the sena ultra slim pouch
stitch a layer of thick material e.g. denim, onto the inside of your shirt pocket
Dude, its android (freedom). Change your lockscreen to something else
I think the app is called lockboot.
It should give you the option of default android lock, or iphone lookalike lock, or a few others...
Anything that unlocks with a side swipe instead of a down swipe should fix your problem.
Regards -e

Sorry mate, i was a bit quick. Only one "o"; "Lockbot". I havent tried it yet though, but since it changes the lockscreen i assume it changes your answer swipe too...
I don't like having the screen facing outwards so that's a no no.
The thing is I like the default lock screen and didn't want to make my phone look like a iphone copy, was hoping I could reduce the sensitivity of the touch screen.
I will look at some other lock screens hopefully there are some that don't look too iphoneish
Thanks
I totally agree with the iphone unlock being ugly, but I do think the default android lock is nice, and it has a right angle swipe...
Dunno about the sensitivity change, reckon that might affect the whole phone. But someone here in the forum can probably offer some advice. Good luck.
so you have you phone in your shirt pocket, when you pull it out it unlocks, so you have the phone bottom down.
if you put it bottom up then when you pull it out of your pocket the touch will make it slide from bottom to top which will not unlock it right? there is your solution.
+ there is the possibility of making the "phone pull out motion" very cool when you pull it out with the bottom up.

That would probably trigger automatically setting the phone to busy and disconnecting the call or forwarding to voice mail, I think that's what sliding up on the lock screen does.
How about dont put it in your shirt pocket?

LockBot have many lockscreens, iPhones, Nexus One, Eris, .. you can even make your own customized lockscreen in that program, pretty nice, have a go at it, its worth it

Thats right, this way i have cancelled 4 out of 5 recent phone calls.
The default screen unlock in the Desire is the most stupid i've ever seen. If you put your phone upwards in your pocket, you answer all calls by grabbing your phone from your pocket, if you put it in upside down, you cancel the call automatically.
If only 1 engineer at HTC called another with the phone in his pocket, they would have noticed this. It's 'HTC quietly stupid' on this one. I have installed Lock 2.0 for now, but will keep looking for a better solution.
Can't turn it upside-down as it will then reject the call. will give the lock app a go later tonight.
pwhooftman if you find a good lock app then please let me know.
thanks

Having recieved a call while using lockbot I still have the same problem.
When using lockbot and you recieve a call the phone unlocks itself and I see the slide to answer desire screen which was my initial problem.
It looks like I need to replace the slide to answer bit rathe rthan the locking sceen.
Can somebody who has lockbot confirm that you still get the slide to answer even with lockbot in use.
Thanks

I had the same experience. Lock 2.0 gives me a iphone like left to right slider for unlocking. When i receive a call , i get the (traditional) green "answer" and red "Deny" buttons. So no unlock slider when receiving a call, but onscreen buttons which are far less accidentally pressed.
No Lock
I had this preoccupation also and installed the No Lock app. This way I also get the green/red buttons.
I gave up on lockbot as the phone would not fully go to sleep mode, I could wake it pressing any key.
Gone back to the standard lock screen for now and I just take the phone out of my pocket very carefully.
Sully
Im switch from WinMo to Desire and Im very angry because my every call when I take phone from case(case which came with TyTnII and phone is horizontal position) is droped. Im prety shure that I do not touch screen with finger on hand, because I take phone on top and bottom and take it out from case.
This is realy annoying...
I've sent HTC an e-mail to, at least, make this problem known. Maybe they will put an anti-pocket screen lock in next firmwares.
I've used the No Lock app to disable lock. Unfortunately it possible to wake the phone by pressing any key.
Is there any application that disables screenlock but locks the keys (besides power, off course)?

No wake up on call

Hi,
I am holding my TP2 in a holster attached to my belt.
Everytime my phone rings, i open the holster and i take my TP2 out in order to answer it.
But the problem is that, as i remove it the holster touches the screen and hangs up (slides the answering button by itself)
A solution would be to turn off the "wake up on call" option if it exists, like for the SMS Wake up option.
So does anyone knows how to do it ?
for info i m using this ROM :
Energy.RHODIUM.23554.Sense2.5_with_Cookie_HomeTab.Apr.01
Thanks

Unfortunately Microsoft does not allow one to do this so far as I know. It is built into the OS.
However there may be a simpler solution. Turn the phone around in your pouch - when you bring it out of the pouch it will slide the other way, and answer the call instead of rejecting the call.
Are you sure it isn't the hardware answer / reject buttons that are the problem?

dot view case

I have a dot view case for HTC 9+. When I close the case - the screen goes blank - the magnet / sensor seem to work. But the dot view never comes up - I see the black screen only. I tried with a small magnet - same results, tried a few cases - nothing triggers the dot-view. What am I missing?
Thanks,
Does double-tapping the front of the case not do anything? It's meant to turn the screen off when you close it, and only wake when something happens or when you double-tap.
My E9+ with Dot View-Case shows no Reaction. It doesn't turn off the Screen when i close it and doubletap on closed case shows nothing!
I don't know if it's a Hard or Software Problem.My E9+ is a China-Variant(Root,S-Off,Super-CID)with the Europe Firmware 1.45.With the Backup
from BinDroid's Firmware 1.90. I have the same Problem??

Yes - I tried with NFC also. BTW - I think my case has only the magnetic cover (didn't see any NFC on the back). Is NFC needed to trigger the dot view -or- the magnet itself triggers it?

Try with a tiny magnet - place it on the left bottom (aligned with the htc logo - but on your left side). If that triggers the screen off - your phone probably is OK.

I honestly don't know for sure what's going on with it, but mine never works without NFC enabled. I've not got it with me to try right now, but I'll have a play and confirm this later. I also never tried with just a magnet but I'll try that later too.
@kanchanray
Thank's for the Tip but my E9+ made nothing with the Magnet on it.I tried it on every inch of the Phone, nothing! My M8 works perfectly with this Test.
Final update - could not make the case to work. Took it to HTC service center - they did a reset, tried on another e9+ and concluded that the case is faulty. They did not have a spare dot view case to demonstrate how it works on my phone - so, it's 50% confirmed in my opinion. Asked for refund from Amazon.
But, I was able to get the dot view to show up with a stronger magnet. So, I wonder of these cheap cases have a weaker magnet and hence the display only goes off but the dot view does not how up? Not sure.
