Hi Guys. These days i'm gonna buy (maybe) a G4. And i wanted to know something more about that bootloop issue. First of all, how can it be that before of november, nobody had this problem?
Then, i wanted to know: in case my device gets mad and starts bootlooping, can i fix it by hard resetting?
After hours and hours of research and trying to do resets and recovery on mine, I finally gave up and just sent the phone in to LG for repair. I bought mine launch day on AT&T and the bootloop failure just happened this weekend. It's basically irrecoverable. Hardware issue that has to be repaired.

My G4 has randomly restarted on me a few times before (only once at a time), but I thought nothing of it. However, this time, it has gotten stuck in a boot loop. My phone was fairly hot from watching videos at a high brightness, and that is when I noticed it restarted for the first time. My G4 is NOT rooted, and I even went into recovery mode and wiped the cache and it is still stuck in the loop. Is there anything I can do besides try a factory data reset? I really do not want to lose all of my data because I did not even get a chance to do a backup as this happened unexpectedly.
Hey did you ever get this problem solved, same thing happened to me today not rooted was watching a video phone froze and now im stuck in bootloop
This just started happening to me on Friday. I have a warranty replacement on the way (and I managed to get the guys at my Verizon Wireless store to give me a loaner Samsung Galaxy S4 so I wasn't completely without a phone all weekend).
It looks like this may be a fairly widespread problem and related to HW version 1.0 of the phones:

I'm hoping my warranty replacement is a 1.1 version phone, but that's probably wishful thinking on my part.

i read about the problem with the motherboard going bad i thought it had more to do with the serial number or the manufacture date mine was 505, anyway i recieved my replacement from lg and new serial is 512 but HW version is still 1.0
Update!
i called verizon they sending me a replacement. just to let you know i flashed 13B KDZ but the bootloop was still there i let my phone on and finally turned on quickly i did a factory reset and booted up normal and its working again. still im gonna send it back. just sharing my experience maybe for other people might work too.
I have had my LG G4 VS986 for a little over a month and it started turning itself off and restarting last night, since then it has done this randomly thru out the day, I have even done a factory reset on it and it is still doing it...please any help will be appreciated, for I don't want to go to verizon with it and end up getting a refurbished one as a replacement for a brand new one.
maybe you can flash again android
I don't know what that is...
its when you put the same image (kdz ) android for remplace your android . but if you know nothing about this . is not necessary risky . but a bit complicated
It's seems to be a common thing unfortunately. It's happening to my week old G4 too :/
Check here, here, and here
If you still have your original box, would you mind checking what month your phone was made in (found on the outside of the box)? I have a feeling this is only happening to phones made around the time it was released. Mine was made in May of 2015

man.. :/ but good news about you getting a replacement. I bought mine new, sealed in box from craigslist so i'm trying to figure out what to do :fingers-crossed:
Hi guys,
mine has started to do the same thing. International unlocked not rooted.
Outta nowhere has started to restart itself. BUT, only when display is on. When screen is off had no problems. Right in the moment when i unlock the screen it gets crazy hot and starts with the restarting.
Interesting thing is that i had z-cpu installed the night before and it showed that the cpu is clocked at 1,2 Ghz.
It got slow the last days of usage. After restarting itself till the battery died, i wouldn`t be able to charge it.
The next day i tried again to charge it and there it was, started to charge but with green lines on the display.
I guess that overheating has damaged the display or something.
I am waiting a answer from the repair centre.
The manifacturing date is August btw.
my phone is rooted i'm on 13B everything was fine since i got my phone back in august till today i was listening music and was gonna skip to next song that moment is when my phone froze completely after pressing the power button the phone reboot by itself but got stuck on the lg screen i removed the battery after a few attempts it turned on. after 30 minutes or so it rebooted it self again but now even removing the battery it won't pass the lg screen. any ideas? suggestions?
probably the same problem a lot of other people are having. I also had the same symptoms as you, on rooted 13B.
you can try resetting or reflashing your phone but most likely you need a replacement.
theirs a problem with the motherboard going bad, i just had the same problem and lg sent me a replacement under warranty but i wasnt rooted

I put the phone in download mode and flashed 13B KDZ. But unfortunately my phone got back in the bootlop. Good thing I'm gettingmy replacement
It's a hardware issue, not software. A lot of the earlier G4s have "loose contacts" that cause the bootloop to occur. LG has acknolwedged it and are replacing any affected phones without incident. Just call verizon and they'll ship a new one.
Yup, happened to me just his week. VZW shipped another one to arrive the next day. FWIW, I strongly recommend everyone backup their phone to removable SD card using LG's on board Backup utility. If this challenge happens to you, getting back up and running quickly will be much easier if you have this backup ready to go.
...my $.02.
Happened to me as well last night. Took it back to Verizon today and they are sending me another one. I didn't have insurance and no questions were asked. Obviously they recognize the problem. Last LG phone I will own! Unless the G5 is insane. Hehe
Happened to me as well, yesterday. Interesting how this is happening to everyone at almost the same timeframe. I'll take it to Verizon to get a replacement shipped.
I had the same problem, and contacted LG support and they said it will take 9 business days to repair the phone. This seemed like an awful long time to be without a phone, I asked if there was any way to speed the process up and they said no. Thankfully I was able to borrow a phone from work for the duration of the repairs. Considering how this is a major problem with many handsets, I think LG is handling the whole situation pretty badly.
Hello everyone
I bought the lg g4 about a month ago. It has 601 s/n so not an old build i think but sadly i have the known screen flickering problem that appears couple of times through the day, i dont want to send it to be repaired because it takes alot of time and i hate having a repaired phone so i'd rather selling it in the next few months.
Does anyone know if the problem gets worse by time or it just stays like it is?
Sorry for the long thread and answers will be much appreciated
Here we go again...
Another LG phone having boot loops...
Bought from Best Buy on April 5TH with no protection...
May 6 phone started its random turn off....Have to do a battery pull and rest it for 10 minutes to get it to start up again..
After a min or two , it powers off again..
Yes, I was able to do soft and hard re-sets to no avail...
Just filed a repair request with LG...
Grrrrrrr

I had the same issue with Sprint LG G5. I bought it in April 13 the from Best Buy. It started to reboot 3 times at first and got real hot before it started rebooting. I took it to Sprint repair center where they suggested to do a factory reset. I told them I can do that. But before I was able to do a factory reset, it finally died. Sprint didn't want to replace the phone since I didn't have insurance. I might have to send it to LG for warranty repair which will take 9 business days. Do not buy the LG G5..
About a week and a half after I got my G5 it overheated really badly and turned itself off and wouldn't restart after attempting to reboot several times. I disconnected it from the power source let it cool off then plugged it in using the OEM power wart that came with the phone. That worked and the phone restarted. A week later the same happened. The phone overheated and attempted to restart several times and this time it seemed hotter than the first time. It turned itself off eventually and I was unable to turn it back on again. Less than three weeks into ownership and the phone was completely unresponsive and dead. I took it into the sprint dealership and they initially refused to replace the phone despite the fact it was under a month before this problem surfaced. They wanted to take the dead phone and have a new one shipped out to me. I told them that was unacceptable and they came up with the compromise that if I signed up for protection now they would backdate it and give me a new replacement phone. I took the deal with the full intention of canceling the protection plan within a month or two after I'm sure this new phone isn't going to be an issue. The new phone has been pretty solid for me so far. It gets warmer than I like but that may just be a product of hypersensitivity to heat after the first phone. That was the first time with any phone that I've ever had where a phone catastrophically failed on me like that. Sprint's response at the their shop was completely unacceptable given the time frame since purchase. I like the phone but I'm not liking how ownership of it is starting out. This was about two weeks ago now and I'm still gunshy with this phone afraid this new one is going to crash on me as well. I do not like that feeling. Thank God I have a backup phone just in case.
Goes to show phones these days are not built the same. I've had the g5 since day 1, not any of the problems I've read I've had since owning the phone. I got mine from a Sprint store also. Only issue I have is the slight lag I have when connecting to anything internet related. I believe that to be something kernel related.
sent from my g5

You may want to try enabling Use legacy DHCP client in developer options. Worked pretty well for me.
