For some reason my LG G4 has an issue keeping the default app settings for basically everything. When I install Textra SMS and set it as the default SMS application it stays as the default app only until I reboot my phone then it resets to Messaging every time. Same thing goes with the default keyboard but worse as when I set the default keyboard to SwiftKey it only stays default until I hide then reopen the keyboard then it's set to the LG Keyboard again. My phone can't seem to keep default settings for any application and was wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if anyone has an idea on how to fix it.
Thanks in advanced.

I´ve installed another keyboard that I´ve been using in my smartphones for a long time but I cannot find the option to set it as default on the Language & Keyboard settings. On my other phones this was pretty straight forward. How can I do this on the HTC ONE X?
When you're on sms app for e.g. you will see a keyboard icon on the status bar, pull down the notification, you can set the default keyboard.
Thanks. It works.
It´s not very intuitive though as it simply tells you to select an input mode, not to set it as default.
Which ever you select will be the default.
Whenever I restart my phone, all of my settings get reset!
These include:
Camera settings (where pictures are stored, anti-shake, etc)
Default keyboard is still set properly to Swiftkey, but the keyboard that comes up is the stock Jellybean keyboard until i tell it to use Swiftkey again...
Am I missing something, is this just an annoying bug?

Click to collapse
are you stock? if not, what rom/how recently did you flash?
Hi guys,
I just came across a very strange issue.
I downloaded a notifications app yesterday and since such apps need accessibility service turned on, I promptly did that in the accessibility settings.
But after this, I noticed that the LG keyboard suddenly changed from the default path keyboard to a normal AOSP type keyboard with TALKBACK turned on!!!! Which means that each time I typed there was a voice calling out the key I pressed, which was terribly annoying to say the least.
I thot maybe i could change it back to default in language settngs but to my amazement all settings in the LG keyboard had been greyed out, so nothing could be changed.
finally after trying everything possible, I disabled accessibility service for the notifications app, and lo and behold the default keyboard was back!
Queries
1) has anybody experienced this behaviour before ? If not , you can try it, it is reversible, so no harm
2) any solutions?
Cheers

Hello!
Every time, after reboot my Note 4 rooted NK2 Rom resetting keyboard and making Samsung keyboard as default keyboard. Usually i'm using Smart Keyboard Pro but after every reboot I'm doing it again and again.
Is it only me?
The Google Play version of Swype had this issue after the last update. The recommended workaround is to use the pull-down to set your default keyboard. Worked for Swype. You should see the keyboard icon in your notification screen when keyboard is open.
Clear all data on Samsung keyboard and reconfigure it via language & input options and see of that works. Sometimes the data in apps can be a bit wonky so clearing app data should always fix it

I had a problem with Waze...so I uninstalled and then reinstalled it. When I open it up....it does the normal "Allow Waze to access this device's location?" So I select ALLOW and then I get this "Screen overlay detected" prompt. Says I have to first turn off the screen overlay from Settings> Apps OPEN SETTINGS ....so I hit the open settings and then it goes to the Draw over the other apps "Enabled list" of apps. I then scroll down to waze and it is already set to No...or off. I tap on Waze and then the draw over setting shows the toggle set to off....and also grayed out.
This happens with several apps......I have never had to deal with this "Draw over other apps" setting on any android device I have had yet to date. I had been using the Nexus 6 prior to the G4 and never had this problem with Overlay settings or the draw over apps thing. So I am perplexed at this....is this something that has come about more from Marshmallow?
Any help with getting some of my apps to get past this to start would be very appreciative...thanks!
bump....
Same problem here with a G3
I'm having the exact same issue with Waze on a G3.
I guess you have an app that is using overlays, like Lux Lite or the likes to setup brightness or color. Give that app the permission and your troubles should be over.

I've got the same problem. But I've set it to allow Twilight permission, and is still doing that endless loop with the greyed-out bit mentioned above.
I got it to work by turning overlay OFF for Twilight.. but then Twilight doesn't work. Why is this app even checking for overlays? Waze gets to be uninstalled for this treason.
So frustrated
I don't use Waze, but this same issue has rendered my G4 a nuisance rather than a useful tool. For example, I cannot add nor edit contacts because my contact list doesn't have permission to access my calendar (which shouldn't matter), but I cannot grant that permission because of screen overlay. I can't add anything to my calendar from my phone because of screen overlay. Custom ringtone... nope. Screen overlay. Essentially anything that involved editing, adding, or deleting of any kind is verboten because of this screen overlay nonsense.
I have tried turning off screen overlay to all apps that will allow me to, but some are grayed out and unable to be changed but they appear to be off. I can't even imagine what app I have installed that would use it so I can target it specifically and uninstall it altogether. Is there a fix for this other than turning it off for all apps? Maybe an app or bit of code that suppresses it?
Thank you in advance.
