Hi,
i'm really confused.
I got my One X since it was released and fighted with myself all the time about unlocking the bootloader or waiting for S-OFF.
Now i did the htcdev unlock and flashed the latest unofficial cwm - Nothing more.
After restarting the phone it flickers extremely heavy in all colors when touching the lcd. Wtf is this? I did not install or change the ROM, i',m on the latest official 1.29.xx.11.
This is really annoying as i am really afraid of my warranty now. I think i don't flash any other ROM and just flash the stock recovery back.
Does anyone have the german / wwe unbranded 1.29.xx.11 RUU NOT on filefactory available?
Here is the video of the flickering
After rebooting it seemed to be gone, after a couple of minutes it occured again, but in another way:
Red frame around the screen
What is this!?

It was not checked! But i have to say that i rebooted in the meantime and the issue changed (see main post).
I can reproduce the first issue when checking the setting you mentioned. I noticed that "strict mode" (i don't know the name of the setting in english) was activated. Is this maybe responsible for the red frames?

Make a backup, Install a custom Rom and see if that goes away
Also on Development options DO NOT tick any of the options under "User Interface" except "Force GPU Renering"
edit: nevermind, I should have read your post properly. I've seen the red screen border thing before. No idea what's causing it though. I'd suggest flashing a new ROM to see if that fixes it, you can always return to the stock firmware if you want.
As mentioned in the last post I would highly recommend wiping everything on your phone and then flashing a new ROM. Preferably a new kernel too
Couldn't you just flash back stock recovery and perform the stock format back to factory settings?

One of the developer options gives you red boxes, it could be strict mode.
Tick it, come out of the options, then go back and untick it.
Flashing a Rom seems like overkill for getting default settings when you can just untick the box.
Everything should be unchecked except USB debugging and animations.

I flashed a custom rom now and the red border seems to be gone. I'll watch it
Thanks so far!
hey, guys. I'm new to android. I bought a HTC one M8 used (not totally, it's a phone of a HTC developer I think) yesterday. But it's firmware or android is weird. First I thought it's a clone but it's real. All HTC features are present. But another weird thing was when I updated a new build, a girl named Jennifer showed up like first time on my card & a bunch of contacts saved. In details I found out all of them are HTC developers. So, I think it's a real HTC one M8. It has a demo app which stay open when display sleeps, prevent it from sleeping. Also many settings are locked. Like power saving quick settings, Airplane mode. Also it's in full brightness & both quick setting + main setting is locked. I can see & trap it but don't work. Most of the settings are locked including developer options. It's white & tapping on/off doesn't work. The retailer shop keeper said flashing a new firmware will solve it. But their shop is really far away & I've no ideas on android firmware flashing. I know about Symbian flashing though but that's no use. Please somebody help me. I need a procedure for flashing & link of M8's firmware. My phone is Europe version. & also it'd be nice if you can tell me how can I see or edit my external memory card. Please help. Thanks in advance

Okay. I'll try it out & reply. Thanks
The"ok" in Factory reset is locked too. I'd upload a screenshot but I dunno how to. Please help. I think flashing is only option. But I dunno how to flash or dunno firmware link
You don't know how to take a screenshot? Hold power button and press home button at same time.
Good luck with getting it sorted! Can't you ask the previous owner for help or do you not know them?

Dude, I know how to take screenshots but dunno how to post in XDA. And I thought my phone is used cuz a girl from demo app was set up as user. Then I found out their is a about 700MB zip file with those pictures and stuffs. Whatever, I'm gonna try hard resetting now. Wish me luck
You can factory reset from bootloader or from stock recovery.
To get to bootloader, press and hold power + volume up. Eventually the phone will shut off and the screen will go black. Let go of power and volume up. Press and hold volume down until the bootloader comes up.

But get token isn't taking my phone to boot loader. if I succeed in installing super su & twrp, tell me how to remove the demo app?

Hello,
My Wifi won't turn on after upgrading to lollipop, it just says error.
What can cause this, I know before I updated something as I had a custom ROM which would allow the wifi to work, what controls the wifi? Is it the Radio?
My Radio is. 1.25.214500021.06G
Hboot is: 3.19.0.0000
Thanks in advance.

'firmware' you mean system partition, or what specifically? Uninstalling Xposed before applying the OTA didn't help. Trying to uninstall xposed after the original OTA gave me a soft-brick

Xposed don't work at all on Lillipop at all, no matter what you do.
You can read about updating Firmware here:
Did we have the same WiFi problems with the developer edition firmware? Or is it just the WWE firmware with the problem? Plus before anybody comes back with a "did you upgrade your firmware" answer, yes I did 401.10 the latest.

I wasn't able to get the firmware replace to work (maybe because I'm S-ON?) but it seems factory reset fixed it and restoring data from nandroid broke it again.
edit: Titanium won't backup wifi access points - it just gets stuck waiting there after running overnight.
Solution (for me) was to delete (using root and adb) /data/misc/wifi directory. There is clearly some permissions issue which presumably ought to be patched up by the OTA (so a pre-post lolipop data partition can't be restored, which is no great surprise).
After reboot, that directory gets re-created (without any previous saved passwords) and all is good.

can you elaborate on how to do that?
I think I can't update the firmware since it requires S-OFF and I can't do that now since firewater is gone :/

If this doesn't work, tell me what you have got working.
Upgrade to Lollipop, Philz (or TWRP) bootloader, Backup, Super-SU, then:
Code:
adb shell
su
cd /data/misc
rm -r wifi
exit
adb reboot
Fixed?

Diffetnet problem. For me, wifi didn't even turn on.
Thanks guys, I was suffering from the same problem.
I did restore from Nandroid a couple of times, only the wifi of the non stock rom worked. I did a reflash of the firmware, It didnt help in any way. I did a factory reset from CWM no change in WIFI.
The way that i tried and worked was the factory reset from the bootloader with original recovery.

You should post your issue to the forum section specific to your device (looks like the Note 3?).
This section is for the HTC One (M8) and the causes and fixes for these types of issues are often very device specific. Trying a fix meant for another device may even damage your phone.
First

Sometimes running the RUU for your exact phone model will restore all functions. Then flash back your choice of custom rom.
Be very sure the RUU you use is the one for your model. Being S-0n and installing the wrong RUU will result in a bricked phone.
Edit: xunholyx's post below is correct about S-0n rejecting the wrong RUU. But I'm a 1%-er who has destroyed an S-0n phone by flashing
things it did not reject beforehand. So, be careful that it's ONLY made for your exact phone to be safe.

No. Flash RUU once, do a factory reset, then check to see if all functions are correct.
If they are OK, flash TWRP recovery and your favorite custom rom.

Actually, that is incorrect. S-On will save you from getting bricked. 7
Also, if you try to run the RUU without the proper MID and CID to match the android-info.txt in the RUU, you'll get a fail and abort, and that will happen if you are either S-On or S-Off.

Phone - Moto Z play XT1635-02-DS
Android- 7.1.2
Installed TWRP 3.1.1.0
Viper addison 7.1.2
Here are my problem:
1. Flashed with supersu v2.79 and also v2.82, neither works. Phone still not rooted. When i tried toa access supersu app, it says "there is no su binary installed and supersu can't install it..."
2. Camera does open but it doesn't function, it stays dark. (I have custom gapps 7.1.x)
3. Proximity sensor does not seem to be working in other cases, but the phone goes dark as soon as i press dial or as soon as i pick a call and remains so untill the other party cuts the call. Otherwise i need to shut down the phone if i have to end the call from my phone.
4. When i shut down the phone, in order to reboot manually from recovery-reboot-bootloader. Otherwise it remains in twrp recovery.
Can anyone help please?
Have you tried flashing back to stock and seeing if that fixed these issues?

This is not really a problem with the phone per se but the rom you chose to flash. The reboot issue can be checked by setting a command at bootloader using "fastboot oem fb_mode_clear".

Thanks. But i don't have the stock rom. I didn't intend to use a custom rom. I tried to root it to recover some deleted photos and the moron that i am, i didn't back up the stock firmwares and while tweaking around in the recovery i somehow deleted the stock rom. This is my 1st time...

Thanks for your concern. Developer option is 'on' and Multiprocess webView renderers seperately - 'on'. But i get the same problem. (and how do you attach screenshots ? I don't see any option for attaching files) In anycase, like you said, i think the problem has more to do with the rom. Can you please suggest me another rom or if possible link from where i can download stock rom for my phone.

If your on xda with your browser, it's the paperclip icon to attach files. If you are using a 3rd party app that wraps xda into it then I can't help you there. As for going back to stock, Motorola made things a little critical when they released Nougat. Depending on how far you were on keeping the device up to date through stock, flashing the available stock images (which aren't signed) could brick the device if you aren't careful. There use to be an account on androidfilehost that uploaded current stock packages but it seems they're all gone now. If you remember the build number of the device before you rooted, that will help in picking the right stock files. I've taken a break in keeping my device rooted so I haven't kept track of the resources used to help go back to stock but they're in the MZP guide threads.
EDIT: a word of caution when reverting to stock:
-Don't use flash tools that don't let you see/edit the fastboot commands
-Do not use commands that touch modem/radio or gpt partitions
Found an upload of the latest build release keep it around when you figure out what you need to flash. It's best to clear system, data, and cache before flashing. Also have a rom (and twrp) at hand to adb sideload in case stock doesn't boot.
