marshmallow twrp and root help - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just installed 6.0 on my lg g3 d855 32gb
trying to root and install a custom recovery but not able to. used the method with kingroot then installing supersu from twrp but then when booted supersu keeps asking to update binary and then freezes. am using the v30b-global-com version
any straight forward way to do it? without kingroot
i dunno if that's weird, but i can't even enter the fastboot to install the recovery using fastboot command

1) Fastboot doesnt work on LG G3 because it bootloader isnt natively unlocked
2) Please do not install TWRP on your current firmware. You will brick your phone
If you need TWRP you must downgrade to KitKat before you can install it.

I did install twrp and it booted normally. Using kingroot and a method i found on the forum. But the problem was with supersu that it kept asking to update binary which never happened. Anyways thanks for the reply. Phone not with me anymore

The easiest method of installing TWRP is by using TWRP Manager...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jmz.soft.twrpmanager
I can overwrite the recovery (I have CWR) with TWRP Manager? No problem?
The software showme a windows with this "Something is wrong: FLashing recovery was unsucessfull. Either you already have this recovery installed or another has occurred. Would you like to attempt rebooting to recovery now?... It give me 2 options CANCEL and OK.
If you already have CWM (ClockworkMod recovery) installed, then installing TWRP after will just overwrite it. Normally that error pops up if you already have TWRP installed. Select OK, and let it reboot into recovery. Then post back w/ the results. Also make sure to select D851 as the phone model, and 2.8.7.0 as the version of TWRP to install.

Root H815 on MM 6.0 V20d?

Hi guys ☺,
I bought today G4 eu model,it came with Marshmallow 6.0 V20d version.
I want to root it because of Greenify and Xposed,to increase the battery time, maybe later to flash some rom but...
There is a lot of topics on this subject,I started to read but I'm lost right now...as far as I saw,I can't root Marshmallow without unlocking the bootloader, only Lollipop, right?
Is it a big trouble to go back from MM to LP?
I'm not new in this flashing and rooting stuff,I had (still have) a Motorola Razr XT910,I flashed it 100 times for sure for 3.5 years but I didn't had to unlock the bootloader (it's impossible anyway) and there's a custom recovery Safestrap, modified Twrp which allows to flash and use 6 different roms, from JB to MM,without changing the kernel...
I will be grateful if someone can point me in the right direction,to give me some useful links etc.
And is there some list which procesess are safe to freeze with TB and which ones I can greenify?
Oh,and the bloatware too...
Sorry if I'm demanding but I want to bring out the best from this phone
Thank you in advance

Hi,
root without unlocking bootloader works only on lollipop, right. Not sure if u can downgrade, but when, u will use "LGUP" tool with the "H81510D.kdz" file. Maybe there exists a pre-rooted kdz to flash.
If u want to root android 6, u need a unlocked bootloader. Rooted Android 5.1.1 or unlock bootloader with rooted android 6.x.x
Ok,I successfully unlocked the bootloader but now I'm stuck with rooting and installing Twrp...
I've downloaded BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247 and TWRP-3.0.0.0-H815+ but there's a lot of metods,which one should I use?
Flash SuperSu+Twrp with stock recovery?
Install Twrp with adb command and then flash SuperSu with Twrp?
Install both with adb command?
I also saw somewhere that I must flash some other kernel that is already rooted...
I just need root and the Xposed for now, help me guys!
Im also Confused..Where can i find rooted kernel?
I already did this Method u said...But I got Boot Loop
Then I revover my phone with Lg Bridge
We need to find this.....I also Had Android MM with V20d

In my case I wasn't able to flash recovery on the stock kernel, I had to flash boot.img unpacked from the custom kernel like SimpleGX and only then I was able to flash recovery and full kernel through it.

the method i followed was-
1. boot into twrp recovery with adb command(you need to have the twrp.img file in PC and also copy it in internal memory of your phone with SU)
2. flash systemless root with twrp
3. reboot
4. install flashify
5.flash twrp.img from your phone.
6. done
but there aren't as much benefits of rooting as any other phone. viper4android doesn't work. spirit fm doesn't work. xposed doesn't work properly.(these 3 were the main reasons for which i rooted)

I didn't know i could flash something other than .zip files with twrp.
As for viper4android i tried normal way, flashed it with twrp, flashed extreme music mod with v4a fix. None seem to work. The drivers never get installed.
Xposed i haven't tried. I was in process of getting more information about it by reading various threads. But all seem to point to problems like bootloop, fc and Bluetooth issues. Can you guide me towards the best version of xposed for v20d with way to avoid problems or with as less problems as possible?

I think doesn't need to install recovery to root the phone.
Just this:
1) adb reboot bootloader
2) fastboot boot TWRP-2-8.7.0-h815.img
Wait a second and it will open, on the phone, the recovery.
Once open go to Advanced -> ADB sideload and take a swipe to start it where it says "Swipe to Start sideload".
Now on the PC write
3) adb sideload BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247.zip
( If it says after the instalation to install supersu etc just abort it)
And then, when installation is complete, press "Reboot System"
I rooted it this way, without install TWRP Recovery

Yeah - but the question has to be asked - why unlock the bootloader and root and not install TWRP? If you've got as far as unlocking the bootloader you might as well make life easier for yourself and install TWRP - that way anything you want to flash in the future can be done without being tethered to the PC, and also allows you to take proper full system image backups etc.

Of course , i agree with you. By the way, we can't root g4 on m6 without unlocked bootloader.
And finally, i decided to pass twrp on my phone, for every file i want to install from twrp, and not every time to boot from pc
You're right
p.s. the first thing i did after twrp installed, was to install g5 live wallpapers

LG G3 Need to uninstall TWRP

I need to uninstall TWRP so I can install the newest update for my LG G3 as TWRP is causing an error doing update.
I tried to use TWRP manager but I dont see any way to use to uninstall TWRP.
I looked at using flashily but that dont seem to work either.
I dont want to do anything drastic to just remove TWRP let the phone get updated and then reinstall TWRP.

You can't remove TWRP as you install it. In their website it is said "Simply install whatever recovery that you want and that will overwrite or replace TWRP".
Doing kdz would remove TWRP. But I don't know whether that is helpful in your case.

All you need to do is flash stock recovery via dd or via flashify.
If you cant obtain it anywhere from forum here, then extract it from kdz.
If you dont know how, I might have time to do it for you if you give me your G3 model version.

My first backup on my phone using flashify was after I already installed TWRP and I made a backup of that.
This phone has been getting its updates through FreedomPop stock updates as I just got phone last month.

Flash stock kdz...if you are on lolipop flash it with lg flash tool...you can't install update whatever you install stock recovery because you root your phone....so you have to do a cse flash or install kdz version totally different from your version.

I can't seem to find stock 6.0 ROM for Sprint version but here is a very stable port as reported by it's users:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-lge-d855-android-marshmallow-ported-t3285025
You can flash it in TWRP, but please make a backup of your current ROM if this one proves to be buggy.
As for the official stock ROM provided by Sprint in form of kdz or tot, idk if it exists, but you could check here:
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Replace 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' with your IMEI.
It's ok to put your IMEI, thats LG official download server.
So I found the Update.zip file that was trying to be installed to update my LG G3 and wondering why I cant install the zip directly using TWRP as I keep getting error message from TWRP and when phone reboots method and when I try to install Update directly it using TWRP I get same error message
The error code is 7 which happen during rebooting phone when attempting to install the Update.zip that way and now that I found the Update.zip file and try to flash it I get same error trying to install file that way.

cant enter into twrp

I have lg g3 d855. I was using clean ROM 7.1 on it . I did a complete unroot using super su . now I can't enter into recovery and I don't have root access also . please help me:crying:
Download Kingroot and let's hope it will root your phone.
If Kingroot can't do anything.. you'll need to go back to Stock ROM and re-root your phone.
It's weird that you can't enter your recovery.
At my old LG L9 ii,i could enter in CWM recovery without root.

Lg G3 d855 rooting without kingroot

Hello, I wanted to ask if there is an option to root the device (marshmallow rom 6.0) without using "Kingroot".
Sorry for asking again in the forum (someone already asked that and didnt get an answer)
Thanks in advance.
Yes.
Downgrade to 10A ( Kitkat ) using LG UP.
Root with Stump Root
Flash TWRP with your app of choice ( DD command will also do )
Flash one of the custom roms / @autoprime 's stock 6.0 .zip

I wanted to ask 2 more questions:
1. now, if i upgrade to marshmallow the root will "dissapear"?
2. I have problem to flash Twrp recovery. I tried autorec, flashify, and also official TWRP.
the message i get when i reboot to recovery - "Secure Booting Error! Cause: boot certification verify"
OK I solved this issue
