Skydragon Marshmallow - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running "SkyDragon | Sense 7 MarshMallow | v1.6.5 | 6.12. 1540.4 1 2 3" on my T-mobile HTC One M8 and am having trouble with data locking up.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I'd post in the ROM thread, but I don't have enough posts.
Mobile data locks up under certain circumstances, mainly with a data type change (ex: going from LTE to 3G).
The data shows as existing, and all apps detect a connection, but everything fails to connect unless I get on WiFi or kill the mobile data and reinitialize it.
Not sure if it's the ROM or something Marshmallow related, but I didn't get any results with searching.
Tried a few wipes and reflashes, so it's not a dirty install.
Any ideas?
Used custom roms before with no issues on this device.

Those custom ROMs that you used before also Marshmallow ?
I can only guess your data problem is more on firmware matter but I may be wrong. Also it needs some files from T-MOB stock Marshmallow but AFAIK T-MOB does not have a Marshmallow release yet.
Some people mentioned to check and enter your T-MOB APN manually.

Other Roms were not Marshmallow, they were Lollipop. HTC does have an official Marshmallow release listed for use. Would it be a huge difference to use it versus an official Tmo release? I've used international Roms before.
It would sound like a firmware issue possibly, the only issue is it only does it occasionally, not often enough to be reproducible. I also have to add I notice it only when running Waze and Pandora. Could be related, but driving around is the only time it happens and thats what I have running when driving (had no issues on Lollipop).
I am going to test it because I have found a driving route that it locks up on. IF it works fine without Waze and Pandora running, I'll toss the blame on one of those apps (or a streaming connection plus tower handovers?), killing them, however, does not solve the lockup, only toggling the mobile data or airplane mode or switching to a wifi connection (same as killing mobile data)
APN is fine, uneditable, but settings look normal for Tmo
Just curious if anyone else using this rom or any marshmallow tmo rom have this issue
I can and probably will try a different marshmallow rom also to see if the issue persists. Just hate having to wipe and set everything up...
To me, it sounds like something is latching up data. Is there an app that will allow me to see all open connections on marshmallow and allow me to kill specific ones?

So much for that idea. Downloaded an app to view connections and while sitting at a place where my connection goes from LTE to HSPA, the lockup occured. No Waze and no Pandora running, no latched on network connections either.
Time to test a different Rom...

Solution
Finding the issue by way of search wasn't easy, but I found it and a fix.
Apparently it's an issue with HTC and radio options.
The fix can be found here.

For those with a GSM rom, you will need to use the tool and not the dialer code.

Internet connection

Sometimes my internet will not connect unless I quick reboot and even then there is no guarantee it will and other times it connects fine. I don't think its a signal issue, it just seems to be quite tempremental. Is this a common issue or is just one of those things. I'm using a HD version of Froyo and wondered if there was an app or widget to force the internet on and off. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I personally have found that with custom roms some arn't "made" properly and so things like this happen. Happened to me plenty of times. I guess you can update you radio to 5.14.05.17 if you haven't.

Similar issue with VillainROM 0.9
I have a similar issue after I used WiFi.
After reboot the Mobile Data Connection works properly. But if I activated WiFi in the meantime, it will not switch back to MobileData after stopping WiFi.
The only method to get Mobile Data working again is to reboot or switch to flight mode and back.
As well the Mobile Data's ToggleButton in the status bar and the option in the settings sometimes show the exact opposite.
Anyone to confirm this issue?
im would update the kernel and the radio, newest kernel should be no problem but im would not install the newest radio because a couple of people had some problems with the newest version.
Thanks to all for helpful replies, will have a bash with a different radio and rui.

[Q] CyanogenMod 10: Wifi Problem?

Hey There,
I've just installed this fine ROM today, and it seems great,
but for some reason, the wifi reception is BAD now.
It works fine if I seat near my router, but if I move 3 meters away
it looses the connection ... and says the reception is POOR.
Any1 else has this problem?
Which version of CM10 did you flash, if it's anything older than beta 1 try flashing Beta 1 ? if you still have problems after Beta1
Try flashing a different kernel and see if that resolves your problem. (if i can spare you some time, try faux123's kernel)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647993
And then if you still have problems.
Try running the Viper ROM 2.6.0 with the Butter hacks runs very smooth.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745176
Thanks for the quick replay
I flashed the "[08-09] [ROM] CyanogenMod 10 - Endeavor Unleashed" rom.
I don't think this is the same cm10 everyone's using.
and I don't really understand, doesn't the Kernal comes with the rom?
Can I change it without changing a rom ?

I notice the same problem a few days ago (I think is since I have install CM10). I have switched on OrDrost since 2 days, I tried the Faux kernel and finally I just revert to full stock rom and my wifi signal haven't change :/

But on the stock rom WIFI was ok.
Update: Ok I did the "Squeeze" test. Wifi is great whn I squeeze
So it is a hardware problem?? How it only started after I put CM10?
Have you reinstalled the stock rom since you have the problem?
I don't know if CM10 is the cause, or it's a coincidence..
there's an UNOFFICIAL release at the moment which may fix some issues, though I've not noticed anything and I've had every release since A10 installed, so it could be a hardware issue.
I'm on the newest build of cm10 and my WiFi network is fine. I can from leedroid and so far just the same. I do have a tiny bit of earphone cable between my back and hard case which gives me my full bar due to the hardware fault.
Couldnt be bothered sending it back. So this works. Bit did recorded it with HTC so they know I have the fault.

Not yet, I really hate the stock rom.
tgcp, Where can I get this rom?
(Although it really seems like an hardware problem,
I heard the latest stock update helps a little so there
might be a software solution)

But if you use Cm10 without that little earphone cable, the wifi won't work good?
BTW, what does htc support ask to fix the problem? Do they care you rooted and unlocked the device?
The cable is about 3mm in lengh and as i have a hard case, its enough to compress the connection inside the phone where the fault is.
Htc would of course fix it, but whats the point if the phone is working and its not noticeable.
I would have had to relock bootloader and go back on stock rom.

I can't move more then 2 meters from my router or it disconnects.
Does your wifi issue not that bad? (without the cable's help)
With out my fix the signal is a joke. 1 bar when 3 feet away. Wasnt usable.

Problem is I can't get back to stock! from what I understand the Stock RUU for my phone wasn't released ...
Do you think HTC will be "understanding" and fix the wifi issue even with a custom rom?
(they'll know anyway that I opened bootloader)
Try flash the Rom with the stock kernel, that will surely solve the WiFi problem.

Did you not do a backup before installing custom rom. Im positive that even if you relock the bootloader they can see that if they went in to recovery. But unlikely. So if you flash stock rom and re lock bootloader, remove root you should be fine

Hi, try using tbaldens CM10. It can be found under HTC ONE X ORIGINAL ANDROID DEVELOPMENT. I found this to be the best CM10
I have been chasing this problem ever since installing CM10 on my Evo 4g LTE. I was getting 4 times the wifi distance on the stock rom. I go about 30 ft. outside the office and wifi drops. Also, what is the most annoying... I stream over our LAN, and when the screen is off, it turns wifi off after a few minutes. (and yes, the check box is checked to keep wifi alive). I've also tried all of the wifi fix apps and none work. If I leave the screen on and stream........ it is good anywhere from 1/2 hour to an hour, then it will just stop. This kills my battery of course. The problem 1st occured when I first bought my OEM 4g lte, but there was an option in the advanced menu "best wifi performance", after checking that, it worked great, then I switched to CM10 and I now have the wifi issue, and there is no option for "best wifi performance". I've tried a couple other jellybean roms and they have the issue as well. This is driving me nuts. I hope someone finds a solution. I don't think the average person would find this as a problem, but when I stream over the net and move all about the shop, it is unacceptable.
I faced the same issue but not on any other ROM. It was specifically with Cyanogenmod 10. I was upset because it gave me the best results but the wifi result was really poor.
However, since I work with wireless networks often, I decided to explore Cyanogenmod's wifi settings. I noticed that if you go in the Advanced Wifi functions (which you can find in the Wifi options menu) you will notice that there is an option called "Wi-Fi Region Code".
Apparently, this option allows you to select the frequency bands your device can operate and is subject to the different world regions. It is quite possible that your Access Point follows the regulatory body of your country and you should know which frequency bands they allow the AP to operate. Due to this it may be just that the Cyanogenmod, by default, put you in a different regulatory domain and limits your frequency band to a subset offered by the AP. Hence, this effectively limits your wifi reach even if you are sitting right next to the AP.
I chose "Japan" since I remembered that their regulatory domain allowed for quite a large subset of frequencies that are allowed on the WIFI spectrum. This immediately increased my received signal strength and I did not have any problem since.
I suggest you play with this, it is likely that your android device will start functioning correctly. However, if you are facing this limited frequency issue on more than one device and that too running different operating systems and different wifi hardware...chances are that your wifi router is malfunctioning. In that case, replacement or repair of the Access point is the best alternative.
Good luck. I hope this solves your problem.

Mobile data randomly not working...

Within the last couple of weeks, I have to enable/disable airplane mode to get my data to work. It's random throughout the day. I've checked to make sure mobile data is enabled when it's not working, and it is. It shows 4G at the top, but just won't send/receive data. I wasn't having this problem when I first upgraded to JB, so I'm not sure what's going one. Anybody have similar problems/tips?

Are you running a ROM other than stock? There have been hiccups similar to this on some AOSP ROMs, but I can't immediately think of anything that would be causing this on a (mostly?) stock ROM.

Sorry, I meant to stay I'm completely stock in the OP.
common issue with note II and my GSIII
looks like the same issue is happening on the Note II - thread.
For me, it seems like it happens more frequently when I leave a wifi connection; I have to enable airplane mode & disable it to connect to 4G LTE (band 14). I'm not rooted, so I can't run the logger that's suggested in the Note II thread. FWIW: it appears to affect me with or without Onavo VPN running.
Any suggestions would be helpful. My next thought is to figure out a way to ping/test the connection to the AT&T tower/gateway next time I run into the issue before using the airplane mode fix.
my GSIII config:
AT&T version
Jelly Bean 4.1.1 Stock (Samsung) ROM
Kernel 3.0.31-274808

[Q] Stock LP Wifi connection

So I have a rather strange problem, and have found no help in other threads, so I'll start on here. I have the white G3 on T-mo (obviously) and have been trying to upgrade it to LP. I have tried both Autoprime's stock ROM as well as the stock ROM posted today extracted from the KDZ. Both were flashed through TWRP and have the exact same problem. Any time the wifi gets shut off for any reason, whether to send an MMS or because I leave the house, when it turns back on, it will not route to the internet. I can access anything on the local network, but somehow the route to the modem and the world at large is just gone, and will not come back with anything short of a reboot. I have also noticed that after a few hours of relative stability, the wifi will just randomly stop working. One other aside that may or may not be related, people have been complaining of text messages being sent 10 to 15 times when using the wifi calling since upgrading. Honestly, I'm pretty tech savvy and have followed all the flashing instructions, but am at a complete loss here. I am sure the problem is with my phone, since the identical symptoms have occurred with 2 ROMs now, both were clean flashes. Does anyone have any insight to this issue at all?
My girl has this same issue on her G3 but hers was updated through the OTA. Its running stock ROM, rooted & stock recovery and after updating to lollipop, she's having WiFi issues and battery issues and other stuff like freezing & stuff.
Zen'd N6
So, obviously there is no idea among the community regarding what is causing these wifi issues. However, T-Mo has pulled the 20b update for unannounced reasons, but stating that they seek to provide the best software experience. There are obviously multiple issues with the update, from battery to wifi calling, etc. I'm just going to assume that the wifi issues I am experiencing are part of the issues that got the update pulled. Short version: if you are wanting to use wifi calling and keep the phone as stock as possible, stay on KK for a while.

[Solved!] Serious Wifi issues with various ROMs

Hey folks, I've been having problems with my M9 for over a week and hope someone more knowledgeable can resolve this with me!
History
Firstly, I purchased this phone from Wind Mobile in Canada. Almost instantly I S-Off and migrated to Venom 1.9~ (updating along the way) where things worked flawlessly up until last week (the Venom 3.0.0 update). Along the way I've updated my firmware frequently as they have come out following Sneakyghost's Thread and the associated Google Spreadsheet. For all of the tests I am about 10ft away from my router and am always on the 2.4GHz frequency. Also worth noting that I have tested it on 5GHz and 3 other separate routers, without success. Since encountering this issue I have verified all MD5 sums of all downloads. I have a Venom 2.3.1 nandroid where this issue does not occur and rely entirely on that whenever I'm not flashing and trying to resolve this (so it is not a physical issue!).
The Issue
After updating to any ROM running Android 5.1 (with a strange exception of upgrading from venom 2.3.0 to 2.3.1 where it occurred): The Wifi on the device will not maintain a connection. At most, it may last 5 seconds. At that point, the statusbar wifi icon will hide and the data icon will take over. Some times the wifi drops so quickly, that the data icon will never disappear before the wifi drops along with its icon. If I bring the main Wifi settings menu up, I will see the entire list of saved wifi networks appear and disappear at the same time wifi is lost (almost as if it were scanning for available networks and drops whenever it does. Just a guess). If the Wifi Status window is opened (displaying specific signal strength, frequency, IP, etc), I will see the strength maintain "Excellent" while the IP address disappears whenever the connection drops. It has been suggested that wifi networks with a "space" in the SSID can cause issues with Android and other devices. Below I will post logcats of various tests, both with and without spaces in the SSID and indicate as such (doesn't seem to affect the issue).
Current Information
I have tried various firmwares that have seemed to have no affect on the results: (associated DownloadMode screenshots: one and two)
1.40.401.8
2.7.401.1 (current, what all logcats were run on)
2.8.617.4

more to come...
I would like to thank you all for taking the time to read this and hope that your contributions will help me come to some resolution! If there is anything you would like me to include or try, please let me know as I am open to anything.
I would also like to take the time to thank Nandroids for being awesome and for being the only thing that allows me to continue to use my phone.
Edit 1
Moments after posting, ARHD 8.1 (Android 5.0.1) finished optimizing and the issue does not occur! Since it also works on Venom 2.3.1 (Android 5.0.1) I can come to the conclusion that it is because of Android 5.1. Now if only I could figure out why....
I had wifi issues too when moving to 5.1. Connection was fine but couldn't connect to internet. What ended up fixing it was setting the wifi channel setting in the build.prop to 11 vs blank.
I doubt that's your issue but I figured it wouldn't hurt to pass along the info.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
I've never had an issue with SSIDs with spaces... I've always have space in my SSID since I have wireless. I have a question: do you have router/ap which is capable of running open source firmware(DD-WRT, OpenWRT...)
hello,
what version is your M9, originally ?
I would like to thank you all for your suggestions. I have resolved the issues I've had by restoring my earliest stock nandroid from when I first rooted my phone. After, I was able to flash 5.1 based roms without any Wifi issues. For those who encounter the same issue, returning stock is likely your best bet.
Thanks again!
Easy fix for me.
So I've seen many different answers to what seemed to be the problem with the WiFi on my new M9. After connecting, data would throttle down to near nothing and occasionally come back, if only for a moment.
The fix was ridiculously simple, navigate to "Wifi Direct" under WiFi settings and rename the device in the submenu. After spending many hours tinkering with settings, reflashing, and almost returning the phone It was difficult to believe this was the difference that made the difference. I hope this helps someone and many, many thanks to the YouTube poster Rocky Xyzz to whom I cannot link yet due to my lurker status.
