Hi, recently I've been making some modifications to my Samsung Galaxy s3 I747. I am running CM 12.1, with Xposed Framework, and am rooted. Whenever is press the lock button, the screen turns off, then immediately turns back on. The back and menu buttons do not turn off. In addtion, the phone will randomly shut sometimes after just brushing the lock button, and when trying to turn back on, makes it to the cyanogenmod screen then immediately shuts off. I am wondering if this is hardware issue with the my phone, and if it is, how can if fix it? If any of you guys have had the same problem, let me know.
Just don't use xposed.
I stopped using it after switched to 5.0+ roms.
It's still buggy and not finished. (I mean mostly on 5.0+)
Go to recovery, and make a clean install.

Ok so I had installed a home replacement called qq launcher version 1.21 and uninstalled around 10 min after. While it was uninstalling, the loading bar kept going and the phone froze up. So i took out my battery and proceeded to turn it on again. Now when my phone turns on, after booting up it goes to my pattern lock screen with a completely black wallpaper and my phone freezes. When I press the power button, the screen goes black and stays like that. The only time it switches is when i plug in my charger and when i do that, it goes back to to the same lock screen and stays frozen unless i press the power button (which turns my screen black again.) Im running gingerbread 2.3.4 and im not rooted. My phones also disconnected so i only use it on wifi. I would really REALLY appreciate it if someone can help me get my G2 back to normal, i depend on it greatly whenever im on a wifi network.
With the phone off, hold volume down, press and release power. This should pull up the bootloader screen. You should have the option to do a factory reset from here. Try it.
So I just got my galaxy s3 friday, and I recently rooted it and I have the Jellybean747 Graystone ROM on it. I don't know if this is a ROM-specific issue, or just a device problem.. I searched the forums and Google and couldn't find anyone else with the problem.
Randomly, my phone screen will go black, and the buttons light up, but the phone works. I can lock my phone and hear sounds from it, like the water sound from the lock screen when you touch it. Even the LED is working. But the buttons won't turn off. Even when it's locked and I wait past my button-timeout time. After some time, it will go unresponsive and not make any noise, but the buttons will still be lit up. The only way for me to shut it off is to take out the battery or hold the power button.
When I restart the phone, it works fine, like nothing ever happened.
This has only happened to me twice, once after I hung up from a call and once after I locked my phone after I sent a text.

I've been having the same issue. I'm not sure if my phone is the problem or the ROM that I am using. I even switched roms and i still get the same problem. I have no idea what causes it but usually I'll be on the phone and when i try to hang up the screen stays black but the hardware keys are still lit up and i can touch the screen and it vibrates. Sometimes it just happens when i unlock my phone and check something and then lock it. I try to unlock it with my home button and power button and the screen stays black with the hardware keys lit up and i can even slide across my lockscreen since it vibrates. When i lock my screen and turn it on again it works normally. I was running paranoidkangdroid and currently i'm running pacman rom the 1/22 version with the stock kernel.
I too just started having this issue. Was running Quantum 3.56. I think it may have started happening after an update, but now after installing an older version I still have this problem. Hopefully someone can find a fix.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. I can't figure why my tablet won't power off. Everything seems to run fine.
When I press the power button, then press (select) power off the tablet goes thru the motions of shutting off.
It actually shuts off for a second, screen goes black and off. Then it restarts. I get the logo etc. Then back fully on.
I would like to turn it off other than just go in eventual sleep mode. This tablet was never modified in any way. It has a stock ROM never been rooted. I also looked at the running apps and everything seems normal. Any idea would be welcomed other than Hard reboot.
Thanks for the help.

Is the tablet plugged in? Otherwise hard reboot is your only option.

Even if it's plugged or not same weird thing happens. As if I restart the tablet when I in fact power off.
My VS985 has 2 problems, which may be related to each other. The first is that, when the phone is fully turned off, turning it back on again is difficult. When I press the power button, the phone just vibrates at me and then refuses to turn on. Screen doesn't light up or anything. Pressing the power button again does nothing at that point. What I have to do, sometimes up to 7-8 times before it turns on, is remove the battery, wait a few seconds, put it back in, then press the power button again. It'll vibrate every time, and eventually one of those times it will turn on and boot up.
The second issue is that I've found it impossible to get into recovery mode using the buttons. I can get in just fine using the quick boot app, but that's not much use if I ever end up in a state where I can't boot into the OS. Apparently it's supposed to work by turning the phone off, then pressing and holding the power + volume down buttons and waiting for the LG logo to show up. I've tried this many times, it never works, possibly because of the first problem.
I bought this phone used, immediately used ODIN to downgrade it to the original stock OS, then towel rooted it and installed CM (LOS 14.1 now), so I've no idea if this phone has always had this problem or if I caused it. It's not a big deal since I always keep my phone on but makes trying new ROMs scary. Has anyone heard of this before, or have any idea how to fix it?
Basically most of the post in the title.
I've been playing around, got it rooted with WETA, installed Kali, went back to Stock. In both Kali and now Stock, if the screen times out, or if I hit the power button to lock the screen, it will not come back up and only a hard reboot will get it back.
Same here. I’m rooted but stock rom. Been rooted for a while but this problem only started within last few days. Same exact issue. Booted into safe mode and problem still exists: if screen gets turned off or times out, can not get it to turn back on without hard reset.
I just factory reset mine. I use it for work so I wanted to see if I could reset and restore. During the setup process when it asked for the wifi password I went to the other office to get it and by the time I came back, the screen had timed out and would not come back on still. So, tells me it is not an app and is likely a hardware issue.
Edit: Well, now it seems to be working. I let it sit and restore for a while. Tried to turn the screen on and it took a bit longer than normal but it came on. So far it does not turn the screen on with a screen tap like it used to but it will turn on with a little delay after pressing the power button...
Update on my update: Tablet still has times where pushing the power button or tapping the screen does not turn it on. I basically have to make the motions as if I am opening the magnet case up and the screen will turn on. So, not all the way fixed...
