Edit: I find the root cause now - It's the AFWall+ which block my WiFi connection for some reason after some days of use. Any recommended firewall app or other way to block some app to access internet?
I can connect to WiFi but I no longer go online such as going to a website or sending and receiving messages in Whatsapp.
I don't have problems when connecting to 3G.
No any changes before and after the existence of the problem.
Problem fixed only when I do full wipe and install all things again.
But it exists some days later again which is really annoying.
On latest Cataclysm + Franco Kernel
Anyone has the same issues? What can I do except full wipe and reinstall again and again? Thanks.

Hey guys hope you can help me. I've been using internet sharing for a while but since HTC's most recent OTA update I cant get it to work while on 3G/HSDPA - the laptop cant seem to communicate with the DNS servers and I get an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle by the connections icon in the system tray. When forcing the Desire to use GPRS it works well - although its very slow, obviously.
Interestingly 3G/HSDPA works fine on my Desire - I get emails and web browsing no issues there. I also noticed since the update that it takes an awful long time for the radio on my desire to start data connection (a good 30''). i guess both issues are related to the OTA update which, by reading comments on this forum seemed to create more problems than it solved. Any idea guys as to what tweak I could use to force the laptop to connect to the DNS servers when using 3G on my desire?
cheers
I have the same problem except that I can only share a wifi connection with my laptop and not the 3g connection or gprs. I don't think it's the update because mine happened before I had installed it. Do you think t-mobile could be blocking any ports or something?
why would they block 3G and not GPRS? And T-Mobile explicitly allow internet sharing with the right internet plan so i don't think they would block it.
I installed Double Twist both on laptop and device recently - since then I have uninstalled both - could these have impacted on the internet sharing thing?
Any other idea?
I'm not too sure to be honest, I tried to look at what programs I had installed since the internet stopped working, the only thing I had installed was peer guardian which I have now uninstalled and its now working. I don't know if it's just a coincidence but it's working.
Any other programs that you've installed that may cause any conflict?
it started working again as I travelled and changed city... so it may be a local cell issue...
Glad it works again for you too. let's see for how long lol

I've had the exact same experience on my t-mobile wildfire - > apply the OTA O/S update and Internet Sharing stopped working!!! (It worked fine before on Windows 7 and XP)
Grrrrr...
Anyone have any ideas?
I also read that a factory reset fixes the tethering issue in several places and will see how badly it fracks the phone up (or whether everything gets downloaded neatly again automatically) and report back here...
Hey guys.
I'm on stock rom 2.2. I'm having issues with getting apps to download in market over wifi.
When I click on the button to install, I get a notification saying that the app is downloading, but after it has finished, it says download unsuccessful. However, if I turn wifi off and use 3G, it completes the download just fine and continues with the installation.
I have also rooted my phone and am using Lou's #8 kernel at the moment, but this has been an issue ever since I got the phone and connected it to my wireless network.
Everything else works perfectly fine with my wifi... internet, mail, etc. I guess Market just doesn't like my wifi? I've tried resetting my router, changing my network password, etc.
I'm at a loss... it's starting to irritate me. Anyone know what might be happening?
Anyone have any ideas on the cause of this?
I can watch videos on youtube and facebook while on 3G, but when on WiFi youtube and facebook videos errors out. I can watch youtube fine using a PC on the same WiFi network. I am on stock rooted LG8.
Things I've tried.
removing all youtube updates, reboot
clearing youtube data, reboot
uninstalling busybox, reboot
removing adblock (restoring original hosts file), reboot
I don't want to do a full factory reset. Anyone got any ideas?
I get this issue sometimes on my phone. I find that restarting the phone makes the problem go away for awhile. Also, try resetting your wifi connection. Hold your finger on the connection in wifi settings and select "forget"...then add the hotspot again. I think this is a bug within the stock LG8 ROM. Install BlazerROM, haven't had any issues since I did this.
Well, I have restarted the phone numerous times without any improvement, but I never thought of deleting the WiFi connection and recreating it. That did it. Thanks.
i'm having this same problem.. youtube works over 3G but i get "connection to server lost" when i try to stream a video while connected to wifi.
already tried several methods and same problem. i'm stock and unrooted.. i wonder if having wifi setup with static IP (no DHCP) has anything to do with it..
really hope they fix this problem because it's really lame.
Edit: it looks like it does have to do with having wifi setup as static IP.. found this thread with someone having the same problem, yet no fix.. pretty ridiculous Google/Samsung, not sure which of the two is to blame..
Hi.
Just flashed the Blackout ICS ROM on my phone and I'z loving it.
Problem though is my Whatsapp doesn't send or receive msgs though other apps do.
i have uninstalled and reinstalled it; removed my data manager etc yet it's still the same.
i noticed a similar thread but it the problem wasn't addressed there. here's the thread link

First of all, if you are trying this over 3G, try it over WiFi.
Second, try clearing the data and cache of Whatsapp.
Third, if you are using a firewall app on your phone (such as droidwall), you might be blocking connections to whatsapp.

Everything works via Wifi. the Whatsapp recently connected but twitter failed to connect. seems all of the applications cannot connect simultaneously over 3G. Would habe posted the problem directly in the Balckout ICS DHD thread but i do not have enough posts to make any input in the development section.
thanks
I attempted to download an app from Google Play yesterday and noticed the download was running very slow so i stopped it and re-tried it a few times. It then stalled and would not download at all so I closed Google Play store and went back into it, now I get 'No Connection' in the center of the screen and Google Play will not work. I have since tried my stock Android browser and I get 'Web page not available' and also Youtube and Amazon app store have similar issues. However, what doesn't make sense is that some Internet based apps work fine and Dolphin browser works fine too. If I switch off Wi-Fi and connect to 3G everything works fine so the issue lies with the Wi-Fi connection. My wife who has the same phone can connect and use the Wi-Fi fine without any issues and any other Internet device I have is still working as it should be. It appears it is only my phone with the issue.
I have tried checking date/time which is correct.
I have reset cache and cleared data for both the browser, Youtube and Google Play
I have rebooted my phone and my broadband router
I have tried changing the security settings to from WPA2-PSK (AES) to WPA/WPA2-PSK (Mixed Mode)
All to no avail.
I have rooted Android 4.3 but it has been working fine for over a year before now. I would want to avoid doing a factory reset at all costs as I have some important apps that can't be backed up with the likes of Helium and some other forums have shown that a factory reset has not resolved the issue.
Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.
After a day of trying to resolve this issue I have finally managed to fix it. This may be useful for anyone else having the same issue:
I went into my Wi-Fi settings and looked for my router in the list and did a long tap on the name and chose 'Forget Network' so it removes my router. I then did a re-scan so it picked it back up. When tapping it, this time I was able to re-enter my Wi-Fi password and connect. After doing this everything started working again.
I've no idea why all of a sudden the network failed to work correctly but at least it is now sorted. I just don't understand why some Internet access worked and others did not. I guess I shall never know!
