Annoying S Note Menu - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Ok, so I updated my P-600 to lollipop and I think I can accept the changes I'm seeing. One issue is the menu Showing when trying to write "notes". l'm referring to the Option to choose pen, text, etc. which was previously in the top left of the screen. Now it seems to take up the entire top portion of the screen Which l am not thrilled about. Is there any way to hide the menu while writing?

[Q] Google User Picture on notification bar gone.

This might seem a little trivial to some, but this is bugging me like crazy lol, when i initially updated to Lollipop i got my Google User picture showing up in the top right hand corner of the notification drop down bar, well after a reset (to cure a rogue app eating battery) this no longer shows up, just the generic green circle with the outline of a head, despite the phone been setup exactly how it was before it just wont set it again - I dont suppose any of you guys know if i need to change something somewhere or anything like that.
Sorry if its a little too trivial just these type of things bug me hehe.

Go to settings -> general -> Users -> tap on your user -> tap on the image circle -> choose picture from gallery or take a photo.
Done!
Well i didnt think to actually press on that to change it, when it updated to Lollipop from KitKat it did it without any user input at all, but thanks for the help its much appreciated.
To bring that back open up G+ go into settings > Account settings > contacts - Check "keep contacts up to date" if its already checked, uncheck and check again.

[Q] Strange issue with touch detection at the top of my screen

I noticed after upgrading to Lollipop that it was difficult to navigate menus near the top of the screen in some apps. I turned on the "pointer location" option and sure enough I found very strange results.
i.imgur com/tPdVowo.png (you'll have to add a period after the domain name, new user status prevents me from posting links)
This first screenshot is me running two fingers all the way to the top of the screen, and once i reached the top i ran them towards the edge of the screen. As you can see there is an area where the pointer location bugs out.
i.imgur com/bh5hWeV.png
This image is just a single finger running horizontally across the top of the screen. The top line is where my finger actually was, but the phone also registered extra touches as you can see from the line below. There's even a section where the top line didn't register at all.
This is a Verizon phone, never been rooted, and hasn't been dropped or wet. I noticed while making this post that the area i am having issues with aligns almost perfectly with the top part of Sense's notification menu.
Is this normal or do I need to exchange my phone?
I am having the same issue with my phone. When I turn on show touches in developer options or install a multitouch test app, it'll show an extra touch just below where I'm touching but only when I'm touching at the top of the screen. Stock lollipop, never rooted, no water damage.
Bump
same problem. do you have s-off? downgrade firmware and rom - maybe this fix problem?

I don't. I didn't want to do that yet. Was hoping to see if anyone else had the issue and if they were able to resolve it.
Just want to see if anyone was able to resolve this issue.
fixed!
we need the old piezo lighter's element. The phone must be turned off. A few strokes on the screen near the problem area, and voila, the screen works again. Do not be afraid, the phone will not be damaged

[Q] Primary shortcuts moved to side of screen

As the title says, somehow I moved the primary short cuts the ones at the bottom of the home screen to the side where they are stacked vertically. They are over lapping existing short cuts that can no longer be pressed without the primary being activated.
So the question is how did I do it, and how do I get it back to normal where they are at the bottom again?
I have looked around and I can not find any real answers so help would be appreciated.

You probably turned on one handed mode - adds home back and recents keys to the right side. Generally a toggle in the notification bar, or somewhere in the settings you will find it. I hit toggles all the time justpulling the phone out of my pocket...
Hope this helps.

No I am afraid that was not it as the ONLY thing that was changed was the location of those primary shortcuts. The rest of the phone and display worked normally. The one hand mode cause the keypad for dialing to shrink and shift to the desired side. When this happened the keypad was still normal.
When you say primary shortcuts, are you talking about the dock? Or home, back, recent keys? If the latter, there is a Side key panel setting in display settings - one handed operation which does that without shrinking anything. Posting a screen shot here may help us identify your issue

I assumed you meant the menu back and home keys, on rereading perhaps you meant the dock. Did you figure it out yet?

Yes I meant the dock, and no I have not figured out how I did it. I am now thinking maybe my display just wigged out and it ended up that way. I was able to fix by enabling easy mode then turning it back to normal mode.

Single tap to swipe option is gone!

Hello everybody,
Soon after getting the Pie update, after the first security small update, i noticed that on my wife's Galaxy S9 the setting "Single tap to swipe" option is gone. Anybody else having this problem ?
Thanks!
Same here. I have also preferred tap instead of swipe... Definitely i am going to change this Samsung brand...
Mee too! I'm very angry...
LOL, you guys break me up, so fickle that you'll change phones because of single tap to swipe feature missing. There is no way you could have even liked the phone if you'll drop it for this.
Same on S9+. It worked on One UI security patch January 1, but it is gone after February 1 update.
Lame, I thought my phone got stuck, took me few days until I tried to swipe, LOL...
I am used to end the call with Power key but never got the hang of using the Volume up key for answering calls, so I just used tap instead of swipe.
Now I guess I am doomed.
My workaround will be to try to get used to using Bixby key for answering calls since bxActions app has such an option.
Until they break that with some update also.
On Note 9 still working after the last update, hope they will not mess with it.
For some reason in latest update they moved it under: Interaction and dexterity -> assistant menu -> Single tap to swipe ....
but now i am stuck with useless menu on my screen (kept only one option in the menu) but when disabling the menu - single tap stops working
Thanks kabangena, with your help i found it. I have set the maximum transparency to the small assistant menu and i moved it in the upper right corner. I cannot see the icon anymore. It's a temporary fix, hope Samsung will do something about it.

same here , but it's still very annoying
Is anyone solved the issue, even with the third-party app? That's really annoying; why don't left that useful option "as is"?
You can hide the assistant menu by long press on it and a circle with "X Hide Here" appears in top center of the screen, drag it into the circle. This hides assistant menu in the notification panel. You have to see the notification every time you swipe down to open the panel, but it is completely hidden from the home screen.

Except, after the screen closes and I hit Home to open it again, this little piece of worthless junk is back.
I'd just leave it somewhere and ignore this POS, but it covers parts of apps that I regularly use.
Why do people think that deleting functionality is a good thing?
Finally I found the solution (not a permanent but still affordable).
- turn Settings->Accessibility->Interaction and dexterity->Assistant menu on and (inside "Assistant menu") set Single tap to swipe is on
- weird floating icon should appear but don't worry
- go to Settings->Apps, press "3 dots" in the top right corner and tap on Show system apps
- find an app called Accessibility, tap on, scroll all way down and remove Appear on top advanced permission (I've also disabled Change system setting)
- now scroll up, and tap on Force stop button
Weird button will disappear and re-appear after reboot only (you should repeat last step again after reboot but it's OK, I believe so)
Enjoy!
P.S. Thanks to user drmusou for his post.
[UPDATE] There is a permanent solution! Set Single tap to swipe option and disable package com.samsung.accessibility by Package Disabler Pro+ (Samsung).
Or just with ADB shell:
c:\adb>adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.accessibility
If you tap and hold the assistant menu you will have the option to hide it " it will re appear after reboot" but can do the same again ?
