Have VS986 on VZ 10B rooted. Stay on 10B and wait for unlock or Install 13B? - Verizon LG G4

Hi All,
I'm looking for some guidance. I have a VS986 on Vz 10B rooted. Overall, the phone works OK with good battery usage but I still suffer from the occasional missed touches, even though I've done the tweaking, and sometimes when downloading lots of files on WiFi I have to toggle the WiFi as DNS appears to stop.
My question is, should I stay on 10B and wait for the Boot unlock, or upgrade to 13B?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

I'm kind of in the same boat - rooted 10B and avoided OTA's hoping for bootloader unlock which, from past reports, won't work on anything but 10B.
I don't have any touchscreen issues and use DNSSet to avoid slow WiFi speeds at home, so I'm in no rush to upgrade. If your touchscreen and WiFi issues are frustrating you, and as there's no way to tell if/when Verizon bootloader unlock will happen, I'd say update. If you can live with those issues, I'd wait because it seems like having an unlocked bootloader means as much to you as it does for me..
I just know with my luck, I'll update from 10B and then immediately the VZ bootloader unlock will drop and it'll only work on 10B and I'll be kicking myself for updating. Let me know if you update so I can come back in a couple days to learn how to unlock the bootloader on 10B

Icculus760, you echo my feelings exactly. I have the same luck as you with timing.
I guess I'll just try to wait it out until I get too frustrated with the issues.
I was also wondering about the security fixes, if there are any, in 13B. Do you know if there are any?

Verizon's site says "The following improvement has been made: Android security patches" but doesn't give any more information, so the short answer is no.....I have no idea what actual security fixes they may have implemented

Which method you guys used to root 10b, I am on 10b but yet to root as we don't have a kdz of 10b to restore if I make anything wrong during the root process

I haven't noticed any security changes but 13b has definitely improved system stability. I had so many issues with lag and missed taps on 11a, so if you have those issues you won't regret updating to 13b!

I finally took the courage to go to 13B because holding out with 10B for custom ROM support is vaporware. So basically, I had a 10B rooted. Needed to get to 13B with root. So what I did was follow the two guides below to get me to 11A (doesn't matter if rooted or not rooted on 10B, it will make the LG G4 updated to 11A non-rooted):
http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-105457/
http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-164676/
Then onto 13B:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/help/how-to-upgrade-to-13b-via-kdz-t3274036
Then get rooted 13B image by either:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/vs98613b-saved-image-rooted-t3258794 (for stock and rooted 13B)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/vs986-rooteddebloated-t3256814 (for debloated and rooted 13B)
Flashing the rooted 13B by:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/...-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765/
with the following command here (but note to modify the image's file name for flashing): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62028523&postcount=2

LG G3 VS98535B (5.1.1) safe for update if rooted?

I have a lg g3 (verizon) with 5.0.1 rooted. Is it safe to update to 5.1.1? Has anyone tried? I want to but im afraid it'll break my root completely or my phone will brick. I can't lose my root because ill lose a lot of features. So if someone has tried or is willing to try that'd be awesome!
Same boat. I'll be watching this for an answer.

Reflash stock recovery and you should be fine
OTA usually removes root. You can reroot it after you install the OTA
No update for the d855 or other versions ?!

I have the Verizon G3 with 5.01. The 35B OTA wouldn't even install until I restored the factory image.

Well I recommend a clean TOT or KDZ flash. Hope this will fix your problem. Please do follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2785089 to flash TOT or KDZ then update via OTA. Thanks!
DO NOT TAKE THE UPDATE
...if you want root, etc. Currently there is no way to root 35b and no way to roll back to an earlier version. They patched some things up it seems.
Some brave souls took the update and are stuck now... http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-5-1-1-ota-t3220693/post63200915#post63200915
Freeze with tibu (or delete) the system update apk to stop the notification.

I just update my rooted 5.0.1 VS985 to 5.1.1, gotta say , this new system is more battery save. i turn on the music and LG health and mobile data when i took exercise tonight for about 2 hours, and it's only cost 3% of the battery.and you know, lots of useless Verizon apps and others, but it's fine, i can disable it in app manager.
Yea I noticed that with this new update as well.
I'm little sour about being in un-rooted state.
But the battery life is noticeably better.
Maybe this option was there but I noticed new options under the developer setting where you can restrict amount of background apps running. I believe this helps out a lot as well.
Just an update on the update...
On vs985 it looks like someone was able to successfully TOT back from the 35B update, so people shouldn't be stuck anymore if they took the OTA(see post 84 here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...ing-takethe-vs98535b-5-1-1-ota-t3220693/page9). Root is still not available for people who took the 35B OTA yet, but there are 2 stock based rooted 35B ROMs available now: Jasmine and Skydragon. I think the only thing that isn't functional is advanced calling because we can only use the 24b modem with the 35b ROM due to the 12b bootloaders we have that allow us to have TWRP...or something like that. So it'll be a 35b ROM and all it's updated glory - running a 24b modem.

Help! Is there a Verizon KDZ for the new VS98612a?

For some reason my phone will not let me take the newest update for the Verizon G4. Does anybody know of another way besides OTA or Verizon Update Assistant that I could update my phone? Can't find the KDZ to try and flash. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You
Mine won't see it either. They may have pulled the update?
Are you rooted?

No not rooted
I would also love to hear of a way to update to Verizon's 12a without OTA. I unrooted my 11a version in order to get 12a to fix touchscreen issues. It seems the 12a OTA is not around, at least verizon doesn't want to give it to me.
Oddly enough after using kdz for 11a my software showed status as "Official". But a few hours later it switched to Modified, even though I'm not rooted. Not sure why.
I don't see it either

Same here, my phone is unrooted, and it is on Verizon Network.
I have tried OTA update, it keep saying i already have the latest update (which is 11A)
I have also tried Verizon Update Assistant Installer (working in windows 7, but not in Windows 10), same thing, when I tried to update, it keep saying I already have the latest update (which is 11A)
do any one know Verizon push OTA by the list? (e.g. some people will get first, and some people will get last) or every one should get OTA at once?
Also, is possible Verizon pull the 12A update due to notification issue?
thanks
It's highly likely that Verizon pulled this update. Nobody has reported receiving it since about 10/10. I'm sure we'll see a new one drop soon that fixes whatever was wrong with 12A.

Thanks for the info.
Hoping Verizon does not take too much time, We will get Marshmallow soon, then 12A is no longer needed.

Prob just look at the 2 sections on this forum that are filled with this stuff.
-There is no 12a KDZ.
-The update was probably pulled from OTA
-The 12a rooted image didn't work for most people, and if you mess it up, there's no recovery options with no KDZ
-12a causes Wifi notification issues that may or may not be worse than the touchscreen issues on 11a for some people.
-Wait for 6.0 is probably the answer to the question, and that might be a while.
Thanks that sounds legit there. I have seen a few people having issues. I waite for 6.0 to come out

Get from Rooted Lollipop 13b to Stock Marshmallow

I'm tired of the problems and struggle I've had attempting to use my rooted G4. I'm currently on 13b rooted and it's been giving me problems. It randomly reboots and doesn't start up at times. And it's so sluggish. I've gotten a replacement because I flashed the wrong kdz. I just want my phone to work without all these problems. I just want to get to the stock Verizon MM for my G4. Is this possible?
You should be able to flash the MM kdz - they can be found here in the general section. Be sure to verify it is the correct kdz.
Keep in mind once you go to MM you won't be able to achieve root without downgrading back to LP. I think there is a downgrade thread here in general as well if you need it.

Thank you I just downloaded the KDZ and flashed via LG UP. It installed without any problems. I'm aware that you can't root on MM, I'm ok with that. I need a break from rooting after all of this. Thank you I appreciate it!
Glad to see someone here not happy with rooting the G4. I don't find it worth the risk or the benefits worth it without the ability to flash custom roms. I've never rooted a phone without there being a way to install a custom recovery.
For anyone interested, The Android Central podcast discussed the topic of rooting and flashing roms a bit on their most recent episode. Most of them agreed that there isn't as much of a need anymore to root and flash roms and that it's kind of died down a bit. Features that people used to have to root their phones for are now available on most stock roms.

i know at the end of the video it says close the app, but dont, just start it and you be upgraded to MM in no time just make sure upgrade is checked
if you want to start fresh, then you can just do what my video says to get refurbished checked
if you upgrade with a rooted rom you have to factory reset your phone inorder for MM to boot

So you don't care about bootloader unlock, TWRP custom recovery, and root?
Why are you still getting Verizon updates?
You should be on converted US998 with unlocked bootloader and rooted...
Any update from June on will probably thwart the easy bootloader unlock exploit. Be warned. Unlock bootloader now while you can.

I also got the update but have not installed it. I have been reading very carefully about switching to US998. I've been hesitating to be honest. It's a long process and I'm afraid of messing up lol. I'm gonna have to take the risk. Plus, I don't see alot of ROMS that is compatible with US988, that's another reason that's keeping me from switching.

It's not a long process. From flashing Nougat US998and then OREO US998 KDZ, even with Master Reset in between, takes 10 minutes.
Then flashing bootloader unlock code, TWRP and root is another 10 minutes.
What takes some time is the prep beforehand. Getting all the stuff downloaded, ready to go.
From beginning to end can be 20 minutes.
@acidikjuice, was it easy?
acidikjuice said:
Success Here!
Took a LS phone form ebay and cross-flashed to US998. It was super easy. Just make sure to follow the instructions to make the correct folder in Windows and make sure to install LG drivers and software. It was easy using the provided notes.
The unlocking part was super easy.... too easy! The door will shut on this. That is too bad! I might get one more V30 The rooting part was a little harder only because my Android tools were out of date. I had to force Windows to take the latest Oreo drivers and then fastboot commands worked fine.
Outcome: I now have a V30+ running on the Verizon network with US998 Oreo. The reception is killer strong and have no 3G/4G LTE connectivity issues at all. Got on the network instantly. I'll worry about voice mail and perhaps wifi calling later. Rooted and unlocked.
Thanks everyone for putting this together! To bad the door shuts in June it sounds like. So happy I could get in before the lock!

A couple of downside is no wifi calling and I don't have a signal if it's not 4G. My phone will not switch to 3G it just won't give me a signal. Other then that root and unlocked bootloader are a plus but it all depends on that's most important to you.

Don't blame that on bootloader unlocking and root.
You can have Wi-Fi calling and you have the exact same 3G bands you had before.

I'm not blaming anything on anyone. Everything done on your phone is your choice. I found the instructions for wifi calling and that's a no go. Others have reported the some. Wifi calling not a big as getting 4g and 3g working correctly.

No, I'm not interested in root, but wanted to alert others, because I had heard that the carriers were apt to block the exploits in the future.
