htc m8 eye - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guys
i installed skydragon custom rom for htc m8 on my htc m8 eye. now i am stuck on bootloader. i have s-on and bootloader unlocked. please help me.
thanks in advance

So you flashed a M8 rom on your M8 EYE ?! Didn't you do some homework before all this ? Didn't you create a nandroid backup before all this ? Your device has a different name to all the standard M8 devices wouldn't that be an indication to investigate the differences in the devices ?
Check for a compatible rom or a ruu if it's available. Only thing i found just now in a hurry is this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3159648

did that.....didn't work

Of course that doesn't work. As long as you don't have a compatible rom nothing will work.
Here in this post on the bottom is a m8 EYE backup, maybe it helps you ?!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60211240

i dont think backup of one phone can be restored on the other one.

You really need to do more homework. Why should i link you to a thread with many ..... many backups.
And why would he post them all there if he could only use them for himself. Think about it.
Read the instructions and check if you can use it (software number) and restore it !
Here is also some info about stock backups and how to obtain the needed info.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

i ll give it a try .
thanks

Why would i type here what's written there ? You have the backup from the thread. In that same thread in the first post is a perfectly fine tutorial written out with instructions how to restore it. What else do you need ?

In the first post here is written how to obtain your version main number of the software you need. You compare the version main to the backup i linked you.

version-main of my phone does not match with the versions listed.

Well i have no backup for that. So it's either someone you know with the same device specs who can create a backup for you or get a compatible custom rom.

please help me find any compatible custom rom
i am new to this stuff

Same goes for me, never owned one and know just as much about the EYE as you do. Check in the roms section if there is a rom that supports the eye version. Google it otherwise, maybe that comes up with something.
When i have the time i will check also but for now i can't. I will report here again with any news.

thanks in advance.

Isn't that causing touch driver issues. I can remember from previous experiences that the touchscreen doesn't respond if a too low backup is installed ?

This will update your device to the latest KitKat 3.33.401.10
1. put your device in bootloader/fastboot mode and connect to PC
2. Right click the RUU exe that you downloaded, select "run as administrator" .. wait for it to run, later there is a dialog box, accept, next, next, update, blablabla until it finish and your device rebooted... done.
Note : this will wipe everything on your internal storage. Make a backup of important files before you proceed.

First thanks for the information.
Second:
I have

version-bootloader: 3.19.0.0000

OS: 3.33.401.6

After I formatted everything (without having a backup), i managed to find a STOCK-ROM (Rooted) and install it "m8dugl_3.33.401.6_stock_rooted_deodexed_cptb.zip".
But Now I have the OTA update:
OTA_M8_DUGL_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_4.30.401.15-3.33.401.6_release_428495gkzen6r41ji8to70
But cant install it since I already have TWRP Recovery, and also don't have a backup from the STOCK-Recovery.
I tried your link
http://sourceforge.net/projects/htconem8/files/Recovery/3.33.401.6_ds_recovery.img/download
And after I flashed it it showed me the Broken Exclamation-Red-Mark.
Deleted,
@ckpv5 Appreciate your reply, but this RUU is for One M8, not for Dual SIM.

1. Are you saying after you install the stock recovery and you tried to enter recovery and you got the exclamation red mark ? That's the stock recovery successfully installed.
2. After install stock recovery, reboot device, check OTA, download and let the system install. If it fails and you get the exclamation mark .. press and hold volume up button and tap/press once the power button. The recovery will show what error that you have. Usually the stock ROM that you have is not fully stock and some files are missing/modified then the OTA fails.
So .. which exclamation mark that you're talking about.

Wrong info. Even on s-on M8 phones the boot.img is flashed automatically so that's not it.

I dont get it. This wasnt happening before the upgrade to lolipop. It also happens with multirom. Maybe its time to S-off.

Hmmm, well i can suggest to make a full wipe manually in TWRP and don't select that in the rom's aroma installer. Then continue to install the full basic rom. Don't delete or modify apps in the installer.
Just flash the correct Lollipop firmware and you're good to go.

This only applies to older HTC devices, and has never been true for the M8 (as another already stated). I don't understand why folks keep propagating this incorrect info.

What version number of TWRP exactly? I ask, since once in a while, folks say they are on the "latest" but then it turns out they are looking in the wrong place, and its actually an older version (and the cause of their issue).
What ROMs specifically did you try?
I did a full wipe(system, data etc except sdcard) in TWRP 2.8.7, and then the install of ViperOne went good.

First ... remove the serial no. & imei no in your post as they are sensitive info.
You have 3 options :
1. Restore 4.16.401.10 TWRP backup - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60147089&postcount=5104
It read as WWE 4.20.401.10 TWRP Backup but that's typo error .. it should read as WWE 4.19.401.10 TWRP Backup
or
2. Relock your bootloader and install 4.16.401.10 RUU.exe - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56140330&postcount=1
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything)
or
3. Relock your bootloader and fastboot flash the 4.16.401.10 RUU.zip - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything and also note you need htc_fastboot instead of normal fastboot)
thanks for your fast response.
adb restore <file name> ?
4.16.401.10_HTC__001_TWRP.7z

Read the thread linked in my signature on how to restore a TWRP backup.
You need to extract it with 7-zip and put those files in your backup folder not to ADB it nor fastboot it.

software number was 4.16.401.10 before OTA update.
can i also use the files above to try to fix the phone?
Thank you. restore is in progress.
After restore i will flash back stock recovery and then relock the bootloader.
If i do that, my top line in bootloader will disappear ? right now is : "Software status: Modified "

I have similar problem.
i flashed stock recovery and ran OTA update 4.16.401.13 (i think) on modified, unlocked, rooted, S-ON HTC One M8 in South Africa, and now stuck on boot logo or black screen.

Yes .. you can use them.
I just put up a link in my thread for my own 4.16.401.10 TWRP backup.

No need to relock bootloader.
Only when running RUU.exe or RUU.zip you need to relock bootloader when S-On.
Using a backup no need to relock bootloader. Just flash stock recovery then do OTA.
If that backup fails (as I'm not sure whether that's fully stock or not), I put up my own stock backup in my thread .. you can try that later if current one fails.
Restore successfully completed. Now, in order not to have problems with latest OTA , i have to restore stock recovery, right ?

Yes. OTA downloaded and I tried twice to install, but all it did was restart phone into bootloader.
After flashing stock recovery, I rebooted phone, ran OTA and update started.
After update completed, phone rebooted to white start screen with HTC logo and froze there.
I have read that this is probably because I ran OTA on rooted device.
So now i am stuck with no OS and hope these files will help.
Thanks ckpv5 for help and link.
stock nandroid restore worked. got my phone back
flashed stock recovery and running OTA again now. fingers crossed.
but whatever happens, just wanna say thanks again guys. much appreciated.

YAY!
can confirm above files and files/procedure in signature link worked.
OTA worked and now updated to 4.16.401.13
thanks very much guys.
now to flash custom TWRP recovery and re-root.
if I may ask, what is the safest method to run OTA in future?
i dont really know. Anyway , how about your free space. i dont know what happened because now i have less that 1 GB free space.

Boot the custom recovery and make a pure stock backup. Restore that one if you need to ota update again

The best solution for me if I ever have this problem .. I will format data (not wipe data) in TWRP before I restore the backup (of course need to backup internal storage data somewhere else first)
Done . Now i have free space. many thanks !!

Updating from an old KitKat based ROM? Do I need to be on stock?

I have a HTC One M8, that is running a very old version of Android Revolution (7.0, which is KitKat based). I would like to update to the newest version, but I'm getting conflicting answers on how should I do this. Some threads say I have to revert to stock, and some say I have to install the official OTA updates first, otherwise I might end up with non-working wifi, and some say I should use the RUU from the official HTC site.
Details of the phone:
S-ON
Rooted
Has TWRP installed (some old TWRP, can't update it because newest version get's stuck at entering recovery, I read that it is related to me having an old HBOOT version)
Current ROM is android revolution 7.0
CID is TMOB-101
Bootloader unlocked
I heard the easiest way to do it is to use the official HTC site to download a RUU, and use that, but in order to use that, you must relock your bootloader, but that can potentially brick the device if it was tampered with?
Can anyone clarify what should I do, and what should I look out for, to make sure I don't brick (like relocking the bootloader)?
You will need to restore a nandroid backup then do OTA to the latest.
Post fastboot getvar all result without serial & imei no.
Someone will be able to guide you.
Or I check tomorrow as I already in bed now.
Note : unlocking/relocking bootloader will not brick a device.

That if still available, not for your hboot version.
What you need to do is to restore 1.57.111.2 and its stock recovery then do multiple OTA up to the latest 4.19.111.3 or maybe 4.19.111.4

Sorry I'm thick, I still don't see the relationship between the numbers :/
One more question, I have read that I need to relock the bootloader, for the OTA updates to work, is that correct?

Where do you read you need to relock bootloader ? I asked you to read my thread post #1, there is a note on bootloader matter. No need to relock bootloader.
How do I see the relationship ? That come from observation and experience ... the outcome that I learnt from my own thread ....
See all those software version no. in post #2 in my thread
hboot 3.16.0000 - software version no. is 1.xx.xxx.x
hboot 3.18.0000 - software version no. is 2.xx.xxx.x
so yours is hboot 3.16.0000 and CID T-MOB101 so the software version no. is 1.xx.111.x
and the precise version no. is 1.57.111.2
That's all that I can help ... as this way off-topic from your original problem.
Okay, I managed to install all the OTA updates, but I'm only on android version 5.0.1, and now it says there are no more updates for my system.
I thought the OTA updates were supposed to update me to 6.x?

The update to Android 6.0 not yet available for your device variant/region.
So far only 4 device variants received the update :
Developer Edition
Taiwan
Bell Canada
Rogers Canada
If you want to taste Marshmallow ROM, you install TWRP 2.8.7.0 and install any customized Marshmallow ROM that you like. Just make a nandroid backup of your current stock non-rooted ROM before you install other ROM. You need this backup for next OTA.
I see.
Are there no caveats, like my wifi not functioning if I install a marshmallow rom now, without waiting for the OTA update first?
I would not suggest that if there are problems in doing so.

Htc M8, confused, want to update to marshamallow

Hello I bought M8 from somebody, it is unbranded European model i think, phone is rooted and carrier unlocked as im using it in asia. it comes with android 5.0.1, I want to update to stock marshmallow for this variant. I have been trying to do on my own but it only confused me more. Im not sure if i have custom rom or if because im rooted, because At the time moment it doesnt offer any software updates from the main menu.
Some info abt phone.
Its model id at back is Op6B100,
Android version 5.0.1
Software number 4.18.708.12
Build number 4.18.708.12
In the bootloader menu I have
Software status: Official
Locked ( i think it means bootloader)
M8_UL PVt SHIp s-off
Cid-11111111 (but if I check with cidgetter it says t-mob010). So it confused me because according to its model its supposed to be european model but in fastboot it says 11111111.
HBoot 3.19.0.0000
I dont have twrp installed.
So please tell me where to go from here. I want to either from here go direct to stock android 6 for this M8 variant or go back to stock condition and get ota update. I prefer to lose the root. So please tell me which stock firmware I need, and do I need to change cid, remove root, before that? Also i would like not to brick my device in process.. Thanks.
Also my device is carrier unlocked at the moment so Im hoping this shouldn't affect that. Thanks
.??

I would like to install htc marshmallow update, kindly tell me how I can do that.
First you need to change MID to EU
Then install EU marshmallow RUU
Follow this guide - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70575580&postcount=12
Do i need twrp to change MId? And do I need to unlock bootloader before flashing RUU.

ok thanks , I keep getting this error in the adb fastboot when flashing ruu zip . target reported max download size ( shows some big number bytes) .
Read the guide again .. you need htc_fastboot not normal fastboot.
At the end of the guide it shows 2 other methods on how to install RUU zip. Pick one thar you think it is easier for you.
