Hi,
When I try to install the OTA update on my rooted HTC one m8, which has been flashed back to a stock recovery its failing with ...
/system/vendor/lib/libril-qc-qmi-1.so has unexpected contents
Has anyone seen this before?
Does anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks
in order for OTA to work you need to have stock rom, recovery & firmware. If it does not work try to get back to stock as much as you can...

Thanks for the info, bit new at this so ....
I've flashed back to a stock recovery from TWRP
What else do I actually need to do?
Thanks
check that your ROM is stock & odexed (Root should not be a problem, however you might loose root after the OTA). Also check that your firmware version (in your bootloader) matches the ROM version (in settings > about the phone). If all this is ok and no mod was flashed, you should be good to go.
the message error /system/vendor/lib/libril-qc-qmi-1.so seems to be related to the system partition, so the issue is most probably a modified file from the stock rom. Try reflashing it maybe...

Thanks again, the only thing I have done to my phone was to root it to install 1 package that needed root so not too sure why anything else would have changed, would it help if I included my all vars output?

All I know is OTA is doing a check on system files' signature, and it fails if a file is not recognized. Flashing the stock ROM (and eventually doing a backup and a full wipe) should do the trick if you can't get it to work otherwise.

As I understand that file is related to the radio. qc obviously has to be qualcomm and the "libril" apparently refers to the library for the Radio Interface Layer(RIL). So I don't know if he made changes to radio, or to the kernel for the radio...Not entirely sure but it seems to be something to do with the radio though

Yeah give a getvar output so that we can see, maybe someone with a similar device can give you the stock version of the file that's giving problems

A friend of mine messed up his phone when trying to root it. He couldn't explain to me what he did exactly but the phone wouldn t boot anymore. He then tried to flash a rom he got from the htc one m8 android development section. Then phone booted into the os but he had all sorts of problems no signal/camera didn t work etc. I tried to help him get his phone back to stock i flashed the stock recovery.img and boot.img from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694994 then tried to flash the stock rom also from that link, but it didn t work out. With these thing said i later found out that the carrier number was T-MOB009(not a htc cid as he told me) so i don't think what i did was wise.
How can i get his phone back to the stock rom?
i can enter bootloader and recovery(which is stock as i flashed it from that link), i will post more about the phone when i will have it.

Grab the nandroid backup for T-MOB009 from the Collection thread
Flash custom recovery(TWRP seeing as the backup was made with TWRP).
Boot into recovery and restore the back up.
ROM he downloaded and installed was probably one of the 3.x ROMs and the issues(Radio - wifi, bluetooth, data etc) all came about as a result of outdated firmware...He probably never bothered to read that he should have the latest firmware before taking the latest ROM.
Ty for your answer. I will try this as soon as i get a hold of the phone. I will get back with feedback.

Hm, it's not supposed to do that, obviously
Check to see if maybe airplane mode isn't selected, try erasing cache, try factory reset(if all else fails) .
I've never had that issue before *touch wood*

Hi I hope some one can help, I rooted my phone then I wanted the new update which I ccouldn't get while being rooted, so I unrooted with a step by step guide, when it came to the Cid number I couldn't find one to match so I used a different one, now some of the pre-installed apps are in French n when I download the update after its ready to be installed a message comes up saying can't update please revert back to the official htc software or something along them lines! Any help is very greatful, thanks.

Edit your post and remove the serial no and IMEI you don't share those.
your version number is missing but I'm guessing it would be 3.x considering you did the update.
by reverting to 4.4.2 do you mean just restoring a nandroid ? and it fixes the wifi ?
Try manually flashing the kernel after the update
or flash a custom kernel for 3.x if you can't find the stock one

Ok so i helped my friend flash the revolution 21 hd rom and everything works just fine. My question is why do i need to flash the latest firmware when installing the latest stock rom, but when installing custom roms that does not seem to be the case?

You need latest firmware for latest custom ROMs as well. Especially as far as the radio is concerned, if you don't have latest firmware you might experience problems with everything related to the radio i.e Data connectivity, wifi, bluetooth
Thank you for this!

An explanation of these things are always helpful to understand!
Forget this sorted it all out, now running SRom ported lollipop with sense 7 from the M9. Hboot no red text and faux locked/original/son. Super CID.
For the record, it's always a firmware/dalvic cache problem (98%)
Hi Guys so Im rooted running Android Revoluton HD ROMs on an international O2 phone S-on
I thought I would wipe the entire phone, bleach it like a PC and reinstall.
Not a problem except various elements dont work.
I installed Stock ROM (I think KitKat)
I installed ARHD 22. (Kit Kat) everything worked
I installed ARHD 34.(Jellybean Sense 6) no wifi
I installed ARDH 40.(Jellybean Sense 7) no HTC TV
I installed ARHD 41.(Jellybean Sense7) no images in Blinkfeed?
I know its probably because I wiped the misc folder but up until I did a clean wipe I could use all of these roms without a glitch.
So is it firmware?
What do I need to put back on my phone for them all to work
I am S-on at the moment and I know that isnt whats stopping these roms working.
Any suggestions?

It's firmware. You most probably have kitkat firmware and lolipop based roms will mess up your wifi and stuff. Take an ota or stay on kitkat.
Thanks will try

If you are S-ON don't flash firmware. Just don't. You can flash rom zips, recoveries, kernels. You can write on these partitions with s-on: recovery, boot, system and data.
I've just used Sunshine to get S-off, what a joy to use!
So now I can just flash them right?
I've got my cid number matched it up with the ota and bingo?
Right?

well im come from HTC One M7, and as long as the M8 is pretty much the same, you dont need s-off to flash the same firmware which your already on, or the next one step up, after all, this is exactly what an OTA does for you.
However, now your s-off anyway, you canflash any RUU or firmware you like, just make sure cid and mid match first. :good:
EDIT: there ia also no need to lock or re-lock the bootloader to flash anything now that your S-off, leave it unlocked all the time for everything, its a common problem on the M7 forums at the moment, people who are s-off or even s-on, locking bootloaders with custom rom's or recovery's on thier phones.
Thanks, so with the ota there are two for O2 my cid is O2___001 am I right that I can take the 001 OR the 002?

in all honesty, I would of thought the CID 001 and 002 were in the same ota, have you checked the android-info.txt file within the OTA itself, its just a zip file.
possible to post your fastboot getvar all without imei and serial number please, also a link to the OTA's your downloading would be good.
Well I've just tried to flash both....I enter recovery instal zip right?
It's giving me an error.

personnaly, if your just trying to get to Lollipop, I would change my CID to HTC__001 (thats 2 underscores, CID is always 8 digits)
Change MID if required.
and then flash the WWE International Lollipop full RUU, piece of cake. http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-european-signed-ruu-0p6bimg-t2911563

Flashing an OTA manually is a different kettle of fish, its just an OTA not a full RUU, and you would still have to be full stock in order for it to succeed.
however, if you just require the firmware in order to use a custom LP rom, then just pull the firmware.zip out of the OTA and flash it.
you would then have to put a custom recovery back on your phone, copy a rom to your sdcard, and flash it from within TWRP recovery.
And im trying to flash O2 OTA

I installed ARHD 41.( Sense7) no images in Blinkfeed? ------ pulled from your first post, this is a common problem, if you mean its face ache, there is a fix for it on playstore.
OK is tere an RUU for O2 uk?
So im extracting the firmware at the mo, then I will flash it then I will try and install ARHD 41....
Im right that the O2___002 is an upgraded version of the 001 and its what I need right?
Otherwise im just replacing like for like.

nope O2___002 is a different cid, you need to use the 001 files, however, its the same as you already have on your phone.
CID is just carrier ID, so O2___001 will be something like O2 UK and 002 might be something like O2 france, no difference in files, just different regions.

nope its not your firmware, just checked a cid list, 002 is O2 DE, 001 is O2 UK http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f485/archive-htc-cid-list-1604812/
Make sure of a couple of things when flashing a custom ROM, check for problems other are having with it, by reading some of the later posts is what I always do, just a few pages, also and this is a must, read the OP's flashing instructions, so many people bypass this step, the most important step is to make sure your using the dev's recommended custom recovery for flashing.
I always full wipe before flashing anything, so in TWRP first factory reset, and then goto wipe - advanced - select everything except your internal storage and SDcard, and then always reboot back into recovery after the wipes before flashing the rom, it will nag you and say you have no OS installed, ignore it and Do Not Intall to SuperSU, the custom rom flash will do that for you.
During the rom installation, again I always select full wipe when given the option, you then know you have a clean slate to build the rom on.

Your firmware is already current, and should work with latest ARHD. Blinkfeed not showing image is a known issue reported by others.
No need to mess with RUUs or firmware zips.

my phone is boot unlocked and carrier unlocked ( i guess cos i am in cyprus and i got it from hong kong ) or maybe carrier is GSM ? how do i find this out

First ... remove the serial no. & imei no in your post as they are sensitive info.
You have 3 options :
1. Restore 4.16.401.10 TWRP backup - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60147089&postcount=5104
It read as WWE 4.20.401.10 TWRP Backup but that's typo error .. it should read as WWE 4.19.401.10 TWRP Backup
or
2. Relock your bootloader and install 4.16.401.10 RUU.exe - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56140330&postcount=1
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything)
or
3. Relock your bootloader and fastboot flash the 4.16.401.10 RUU.zip - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything and also note you need htc_fastboot instead of normal fastboot)
thanks for your fast response.
adb restore <file name> ?
4.16.401.10_HTC__001_TWRP.7z
It is 7zip . This should be repacked as a normal ZIP ?
edit
d:\htc\One\Data>adb restore 4.16.401.10_HTC__001_TWRP.ZIP
adb: unable to connect for backup

Read the thread linked in my signature on how to restore a TWRP backup.
You need to extract it with 7-zip and put those files in your backup folder not to ADB it nor fastboot it.
hi guys
I have similar problem.
i flashed stock recovery and ran OTA update 4.16.401.13 (i think) on modified, unlocked, rooted, S-ON HTC One M8 in South Africa, and now stuck on boot logo or black screen.
This is my details:

software number was 4.16.401.10 before OTA update.
can i also use the files above to try to fix the phone?
Thank you. restore is in progress.
After restore i will flash back stock recovery and then relock the bootloader.
If i do that, my top line in bootloader will disappear ? right now is : "Software status: Modified "

Yes .. you can use them.
I just put up a link in my thread for my own 4.16.401.10 TWRP backup.

No need to relock bootloader.
Only when running RUU.exe or RUU.zip you need to relock bootloader when S-On.
Using a backup no need to relock bootloader. Just flash stock recovery then do OTA.
If that backup fails (as I'm not sure whether that's fully stock or not), I put up my own stock backup in my thread .. you can try that later if current one fails.
Restore successfully completed. Now, in order not to have problems with latest OTA , i have to restore stock recovery, right ?

Yes. OTA downloaded and I tried twice to install, but all it did was restart phone into bootloader.
After flashing stock recovery, I rebooted phone, ran OTA and update started.
After update completed, phone rebooted to white start screen with HTC logo and froze there.
I have read that this is probably because I ran OTA on rooted device.
So now i am stuck with no OS and hope these files will help.
Thanks ckpv5 for help and link.
stock nandroid restore worked. got my phone back
flashed stock recovery and running OTA again now. fingers crossed.
but whatever happens, just wanna say thanks again guys. much appreciated.

YAY!
can confirm above files and files/procedure in signature link worked.
OTA worked and now updated to 4.16.401.13
thanks very much guys.
now to flash custom TWRP recovery and re-root.
if I may ask, what is the safest method to run OTA in future?
i dont really know. Anyway , how about your free space. i dont know what happened because now i have less that 1 GB free space.

Boot the custom recovery and make a pure stock backup. Restore that one if you need to ota update again

The best solution for me if I ever have this problem .. I will format data (not wipe data) in TWRP before I restore the backup (of course need to backup internal storage data somewhere else first)
Done . Now i have free space. many thanks !!
Hi there in need of some help. I have really ****ed up my install of twrp and supersu from my htc one m8.
I followed this person tutorial htconeroot com/htc-one-root I followed everything to the letter apart from enabling Dev enable usb debugging.
1st of all I downloaded this twrp file "openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.2-m8" when I should have downloaded the latest version of twrp. Such a noob mistake I know now : (
2nd I also downloaded a older version of supersu SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815 which I loaded onto my phone and should have downlaoded the latest version.
I followed all the instruction on the video and when I rebooted after instaling supersu my device is now stuck on the HTC startup screen.
I tried to reboot again going into fastboot and recovery and nothing worked. I know I should have just updated supersu to the latest version but I followed some other peoples advice and now I have completelty screwd my phone I think.
I deleted supersu from twrp and wiped the files as well. My computer now does not recognise my phone folder to be able to install any updated version of supersu or install a ROM. My computer OS is windows 10 and it now sees my phone as a cd drive so cannot install anything on the drive at all.
I can get into twrp but nothing seems to work when I try to reset back to factory settings.
Is there a command line way in geting back into my phone and being able to sort this mess that I have made.
In need of some serious help from the experts here at xda developers.
All help is very much appreciated.
Thanks Steve

These random "root" websites just copy content from XDA, and have little or no community to help you. All you need is on XDA, so I recommend stick to XDA.
Such "root" websites also don't give enough information, aren't well organized, and don't update it all. So they are very likely to get you into trouble, as you now know.

What version, if it wasn't SuperSU 2.79?
What version of Android was the phone on when you started? Was it Marshmallow?

There is really no such thing as "reset back to factory settings" especially in TWRP. Just going in and wiping things, isn't going to fix the problem.
Try to fastboot flash an updated version of TWRP. If you were on Marshmallow, try current version 3.1.0-0 from there: https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
Once booted into TWRP, see if you can access the internal storage from your PC. If not, make sure internal storage is checked in "Mount".

Sorry was this version SuperSU-v2.37.zip. I do appologise thats the latest version that I posted and was ment to be this version SuperSU-v2.37.zip this is the one that I installed.
Yes it was marshmallow.
I downloaded the latest version of twrp and can I ask how to re install twrp ??
I cannot access my phone internal storage for some reason my computer is not recognising my phone now. It was before as I installed supersu straight onto my phone internal storage and tried to boot the phone from that. It's now coming up as a cd drive and I cannot access to install anything on it.
In mount all I have
System >>> not checked
cache >>> not checked
Data >>> is checked
Micro SDcard >> is checked
USB-OTG >>> not checked
Thanks again for your help

Flash with fastboot. Which I would assume is the same way you did it before. Instructions on TWRP's website: https://twrp.me/devices/htconem8gsm.html

Let's get the right version of TWRP on the phone first, and see if that helps. If not, we'll go from there.
Updated twrp
Hi just to let you know that I have booted into the new twrp. I am using FWUL and using simple-ADB and it installed it no problem.
Just cannot seem to find how to install supersu onto my device as my phone is not showing up FWUL OS.
Sorry, what is FWUL?
Updatefor you
Hi just to say that I installed supersu as well the latest version SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815. After rebooting I am back to the htc page. I have no ROM installed at all on this and it's saying there no OS installed on my phone.
I want to install kali Linux Nethunter and I have downlaod the correct files to install.
WillI have to install another OS like Marshmallow or kitkat before installing Kali Nethunter.
Thanks again for yourhelp : ))

You must have at some point in trying to "fix" the problem, wiped system in TWRP. System is same as ROM/OS. So if you wiped it, it's pretty obvious that no ROM is the result.
Flashing old SuperSU in itself doesn't result in no ROM/no OS. It just makes the phone stuck on boot screen, and flashing the proper SuperSU will fix it.

I've never used it. But reading the thread, it looks like you need a fully working OS. So pick a ROM, put it on the phone, and flash it. Then flash Kali Nethunter.

Ah, I see it's listed as one of the several options for adb/fastboot in the TWRP install instructions. I've never used that specific one, so the acronym confused me. Any fastboot/adb environment will work about the same. You didn't really need to install anything new on your computer. You already had fastboot on your computer to begin with (to unlock the bootloader), and that would have worked fine to install TWRP.
BackUp File
Hi there and thanks very much for your help very much appreciated. Before I did everything I made a back up and have the files on my desktop they are:
0C77AEECE8C258113148C6FB487946BF97B34672
01C669ECF50A775226B15B9F60EEB522AB34BE2F
I have ten of these files and a deafault file as well. Can I restore these to my hpne at all.
I am going to try and install marshmallow on my phone as that was the last OS that I had. Do I have to have the most current and updated version MM.

What did you use to "backup" the phone? Those don't look like TWRP backup folder names. They look like MD5 verification codes?
Individual TWRP backup folders will usually have name format of the date/time the backup was made, such as: 2017-04-22-20-43-56....

There weren't many different official versions (maybe 1 or 2) of Marshmallow for each M8 carrier version. Any version MM should do.
