A friend of mine messed up his phone when trying to root it. He couldn't explain to me what he did exactly but the phone wouldn t boot anymore. He then tried to flash a rom he got from the htc one m8 android development section. Then phone booted into the os but he had all sorts of problems no signal/camera didn t work etc. I tried to help him get his phone back to stock i flashed the stock recovery.img and boot.img from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694994 then tried to flash the stock rom also from that link, but it didn t work out. With these thing said i later found out that the carrier number was T-MOB009(not a htc cid as he told me) so i don't think what i did was wise.
How can i get his phone back to the stock rom?
i can enter bootloader and recovery(which is stock as i flashed it from that link), i will post more about the phone when i will have it.

Grab the nandroid backup for T-MOB009 from the Collection thread
Flash custom recovery(TWRP seeing as the backup was made with TWRP).
Boot into recovery and restore the back up.
ROM he downloaded and installed was probably one of the 3.x ROMs and the issues(Radio - wifi, bluetooth, data etc) all came about as a result of outdated firmware...He probably never bothered to read that he should have the latest firmware before taking the latest ROM.
Ty for your answer. I will try this as soon as i get a hold of the phone. I will get back with feedback.

Nevermind i have managed to try and restore it, but it fails it says unable to mount
LE: Nevermind i did the backup, it's kind of hard to guide a total noob through skype but i did it. TY VERY MUCH @BerndM14
Ok so i'm back with a new problem. I did the backup and wanted to update to 4.4.3 with the ota because the phone asked to, so i went and flash the stock recovery and let the phone download and install the ota but now the WIFI does not work it's greyed out. How can i fix this?

Hm, it's not supposed to do that, obviously
Check to see if maybe airplane mode isn't selected, try erasing cache, try factory reset(if all else fails) .
I've never had that issue before *touch wood*
Can't get ota update after unrooting
Hi I hope some one can help, I rooted my phone then I wanted the new update which I ccouldn't get while being rooted, so I unrooted with a step by step guide, when it came to the Cid number I couldn't find one to match so I used a different one, now some of the pre-installed apps are in French n when I download the update after its ready to be installed a message comes up saying can't update please revert back to the official htc software or something along them lines! Any help is very greatful, thanks.

Don't post the same issue in multiple posts, you already made a thread for this. :good:
I tried facotry resetting/erasing cache etc does not work at all. I know it's weird, i mean it's the update from the carrier, wtf!? here is the info for the phone, maybe it will give you a clue about what's happening with this phone.

Edit your post and remove the serial no and IMEI you don't share those.
your version number is missing but I'm guessing it would be 3.x considering you did the update.
by reverting to 4.4.2 do you mean just restoring a nandroid ? and it fixes the wifi ?
Try manually flashing the kernel after the update
or flash a custom kernel for 3.x if you can't find the stock one

Ok so i helped my friend flash the revolution 21 hd rom and everything works just fine. My question is why do i need to flash the latest firmware when installing the latest stock rom, but when installing custom roms that does not seem to be the case?

You need latest firmware for latest custom ROMs as well. Especially as far as the radio is concerned, if you don't have latest firmware you might experience problems with everything related to the radio i.e Data connectivity, wifi, bluetooth
Thank you for this!

HI,
I just bought an unlock htc m8 no branding any where. I unlocked the bootloader and flash a custom recovery but when I tried to root the phone something went wrong because I'm stuck on the boot screen and it would not go past it. I have been looking every where how to fix it, I don't have a nandroid back up and don't know which one to look for. Is there a way to restore it back to normal? I also tried flashing a custom rom but it gets stuck in the same place.
please help.

Have you flashed a custom recovery on the device? If yes, just try to restore a nandroid back from @Mr Hofs thread and your phone will be fine
Problem is, I don't think there is any nandroid backups available for his device LRA__001. First time I've seen that CID mentioned. Going by MID doesn't help much either, I think the Verizon has the same MID. Going by the "product: m8_wlv" it also indicates Verizon. I do see that he's on AT&T on his profile though but...
Being stuck on bootloader screen for 10minutes or more won't be surprising at all if he flashed a 2.xx.xxx.x firmware based custom ROM instead of a 1.xx.xxx.x version. Need to upgrade firmware in order to do that.
You don't happen to recall what version software your device ran?
Hi, I had the 2.7 TWRP recovery but found the 2.8.0.6 works better. I was able to flash PA ROM and it is working now. Plus now is rooted and S-off and super CID.
The phone has no branding and bought from amazon as unlock from factory. But is funny you mention Verizon has similar IDs because when I plug the phone to HTC sync the first splash screen shows Verizon wireless assistant and then go to the normal HTC one.
I tried the latest HD ROM and it was force closing a lot so I think the firmware is 1.... Something. I want to upgrade but don't know which one to get. Maybe I should look on the Verizon forum, thanks for letting me know that.
I spoke with developer support at HTC and they told me they will help restore to stock and escalated the call. I will let you know if they do help.
Thanks for the replies.

Honestly if its that much of a hassle, you should stick with something safe, Change the MID and CID to a Dev Edition/Europe, to do a full convert and you wont have to worry about the LRA_001. If you do those 2 steps the the OTA will be automatic as follows.
Else just flash a custom recovery, wipe data/cache and so and restore with one of the TWRP backups posted around here and you'll be good to go :good:
Cool I will try that. I did not know that.

Don't forget though, best steps as follow, change MID, CID, restore via TWRP backup. If youre in Europe then change the MID to EUR, but the CID change it to super CID. Youve gotten past the hardest part which is the SOFF so everything is a breeze from there on out.
You won't lose your internal data if you do any of the following steps but dumping them on your SD card would be safe too.
I had an SG manufactured one, and the OTA came out pretty weird, was an unbranded one too. changed it to Dev/Unlocked MID and the super CID, downloaded the B_US002 TWRP dump thats posted here and restored that. Might want to download the OTA too aswell would save massive time after the first 159MB ota.
Awesome. Thanks!
was any one here ever able to get things working?
i am on LRA__001 and got my radio to stop working, no phone signals
contacted HTC dev and they provided me a zip, flashing that didn't help much, still no signals and can't boot into stock recovery.
seems like i've flashed the wrong hboot or something that's causing everything to be flashed on wrong partition addresses.
any help ?

This isn't the same issue as the OP. You flashed the wrong firmware which is much more serious. This thread isn't relevant to your issue, in addition to being over a year old (which also most likely won't help your issue).

The LRA version is the LRA version. there's no question there. Its based on Verizon, but its not Verizon.
Sounds like you are trying to make up solutions. What you need is LRA firmware or RUU (RUU may not exist).

i've got complete RUU from HTCDev to flash via hboot, did flash that but lost the IMEI and baseband version under settings > about, however the getvar all is still showing that information. so just trying to figure out what went wrong. either something is missing in what they have provided. or the hboot version is mismatching.
read bout the boot process and got to know that hboot reads IMEI and baseband while booting up and holds into some shared memory variables which later read by kernel.
just trying to figure out things and also looking for somebody who can provide dumps so i can try flashing them.

No I explained them my case and they asked to couple of days time and then they provided a zip file to flash via hboot. They claimed that they have prepared this file especially for me. I flashed that file. It was 5.0.1 with almost all the images.
One thing that I doubt is that the hboot is not updated since the android-info.txt says hbootpreupdate=12 and my getvar says 11 so just wondering whether it was updated or not.
Also I dumped mmcblk0p3 (board-info) and I can see my IMEI there too.
Just don't know where to nock my head

they send me the wrong files a couple of times. But they did get me the right one at the end. it seems you have the same problem I did. I still the hboot file and the system image. The hboot zip should be installed on download mode and the system image should be rename to OP6BIMG.zip and put in the sd card and re-start the phone in bootloader and let the zip install itself. It takes a long time but it worked. I have the files in my google drive I don't mind sharing it.

For the record, it's always a firmware/dalvic cache problem (98%)
Hi Guys so Im rooted running Android Revoluton HD ROMs on an international O2 phone S-on
I thought I would wipe the entire phone, bleach it like a PC and reinstall.
Not a problem except various elements dont work.
I installed Stock ROM (I think KitKat)
I installed ARHD 22. (Kit Kat) everything worked
I installed ARHD 34.(Jellybean Sense 6) no wifi
I installed ARDH 40.(Jellybean Sense 7) no HTC TV
I installed ARHD 41.(Jellybean Sense7) no images in Blinkfeed?
I know its probably because I wiped the misc folder but up until I did a clean wipe I could use all of these roms without a glitch.
So is it firmware?
What do I need to put back on my phone for them all to work
I am S-on at the moment and I know that isnt whats stopping these roms working.
Any suggestions?

It's firmware. You most probably have kitkat firmware and lolipop based roms will mess up your wifi and stuff. Take an ota or stay on kitkat.
Thanks will try

If you are S-ON don't flash firmware. Just don't. You can flash rom zips, recoveries, kernels. You can write on these partitions with s-on: recovery, boot, system and data.
I've just used Sunshine to get S-off, what a joy to use!
So now I can just flash them right?
I've got my cid number matched it up with the ota and bingo?
Right?

well im come from HTC One M7, and as long as the M8 is pretty much the same, you dont need s-off to flash the same firmware which your already on, or the next one step up, after all, this is exactly what an OTA does for you.
However, now your s-off anyway, you canflash any RUU or firmware you like, just make sure cid and mid match first. :good:
EDIT: there ia also no need to lock or re-lock the bootloader to flash anything now that your S-off, leave it unlocked all the time for everything, its a common problem on the M7 forums at the moment, people who are s-off or even s-on, locking bootloaders with custom rom's or recovery's on thier phones.
Thanks, so with the ota there are two for O2 my cid is O2___001 am I right that I can take the 001 OR the 002?

in all honesty, I would of thought the CID 001 and 002 were in the same ota, have you checked the android-info.txt file within the OTA itself, its just a zip file.
possible to post your fastboot getvar all without imei and serial number please, also a link to the OTA's your downloading would be good.
Well I've just tried to flash both....I enter recovery instal zip right?
It's giving me an error.
Will tell you that info in a minute when I get on my pc

personnaly, if your just trying to get to Lollipop, I would change my CID to HTC__001 (thats 2 underscores, CID is always 8 digits)
Change MID if required.
and then flash the WWE International Lollipop full RUU, piece of cake. http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-european-signed-ruu-0p6bimg-t2911563
But if the original isn't flashing what hope have I got with an HTC one. It's interesting to know though that I can change it.
So what next?
Oh hang on I will post my stats

Flashing an OTA manually is a different kettle of fish, its just an OTA not a full RUU, and you would still have to be full stock in order for it to succeed.
however, if you just require the firmware in order to use a custom LP rom, then just pull the firmware.zip out of the OTA and flash it.
you would then have to put a custom recovery back on your phone, copy a rom to your sdcard, and flash it from within TWRP recovery.
And im trying to flash O2 OTA

you already have the latest firmware on your phone !!!
I installed ARHD 41.( Sense7) no images in Blinkfeed? ------ pulled from your first post, this is a common problem, if you mean its face ache, there is a fix for it on playstore.
OK is tere an RUU for O2 uk?
So im extracting the firmware at the mo, then I will flash it then I will try and install ARHD 41....
Im right that the O2___002 is an upgraded version of the 001 and its what I need right?
Otherwise im just replacing like for like.

nope O2___002 is a different cid, you need to use the 001 files, however, its the same as you already have on your phone.
CID is just carrier ID, so O2___001 will be something like O2 UK and 002 might be something like O2 france, no difference in files, just different regions.

So if its the same and ive got a problem its not the firmware right?
Or is it just an update.
I will tell you this is really easy but telling people how to do it is confusing

nope its not your firmware, just checked a cid list, 002 is O2 DE, 001 is O2 UK http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f485/archive-htc-cid-list-1604812/
Make sure of a couple of things when flashing a custom ROM, check for problems other are having with it, by reading some of the later posts is what I always do, just a few pages, also and this is a must, read the OP's flashing instructions, so many people bypass this step, the most important step is to make sure your using the dev's recommended custom recovery for flashing.
I always full wipe before flashing anything, so in TWRP first factory reset, and then goto wipe - advanced - select everything except your internal storage and SDcard, and then always reboot back into recovery after the wipes before flashing the rom, it will nag you and say you have no OS installed, ignore it and Do Not Intall to SuperSU, the custom rom flash will do that for you.
During the rom installation, again I always select full wipe when given the option, you then know you have a clean slate to build the rom on.

Your firmware is already current, and should work with latest ARHD. Blinkfeed not showing image is a known issue reported by others.
No need to mess with RUUs or firmware zips.
Hey there.
I'm fairly new-ish to the Android modification scene. I've had android phones for a while but only recently started rooting etc one my One M8. I've got the Bootloader Unlocked with S-Off and am also on just the stock rom (or I was as I'm in the middle of attempting to get custom roms. :L). My custom recovery is TWRP 2.8.7.0, the latest and the roms I have been trying to install so far are the latest SkyDragon v10 Sense 7 and ViperOne 4.6.0 roms.
In TWRP, when doing this, it will go through the custom installation setup stuff and afterwards it will go into a never ending bootloop for around an hour before I decide to hold volume up and power to switch it off.
Now, before I do the initial installation of the rom, I have wiped data, system, cache and the Dalvik. Regardless, it still causes a boot loop. I have switched the phone off and waited 30 seconds. Still a bootloop. I have gone back into recovery and re-wiped the cache and dalvik and still get this bootloop.
Another thing to note, I have a pending update which is to fix the something which I received at the end of August for the OTA thing and when I put stock recovery back onto the phone to try and do an OTA for that as well, I get the same issue. The only difference is that due to that being the official rom, it also has sound during the bootup but one thing to note (aside from it doing exactly the same and doing a bootloop), the boot animation sound is also delayed by 5 seconds or so, unlike before the update where it plays at the same time as the boot animation.
I am able to successfully restore my TWRP backup of my OS before it attempts something like this and was last working but that's as far as it goes.
I am at a complete loss as I am following any and all tutorials I can find online to the letter and yet I am still having no luck here.
Can anyone assist me on this? It would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance and for reading.

That show your TWRP backup is not stock enough or it is a rooted stock and that is why the OTA failed.
You need a pure non-rooted backup or RUU to successfully update.
What's your device details ?
Run command fastboot getvar all and post here minus the serial & imei no.. maybe someone will be able to point you to right direction.

It's stock firmware that came on the phone, although it is rooted with SuperSU. Whenever I looked online, every forum board said that having a rooted phone wouldn't prevent an OTA, although having a custom recovery would so I would flash the stock recovery back onto the phone and do the update that way which would in turn create this boot loop.
My RUU is/ should be exactly the same as I haven't done anything to change it and also, the updates still come through and are downloaded that way. It also installs (so I think as it goes through the normal process of updating that my phone has always done showing an image of an updating phone with a loading bar at the bottom whilst rebooting a couple of times).
In terms of the details requested, I'm not sure if it will be affected by the rom I just tried installing again for ViperOneM8, but they can be found below:
(bootloader) version: 0.5

The version I am on on the stock rom is 4.16.401.10. I'm not sure why that is showing, unless it's because of the ViperoneM8 mod I installed which also features the same patch released by HTC apparently.
Yeah, almost everyone say the same thing and those forum are correct for ROMs prior to lollipop.
On lollipop .. root works differently that is why you can't do update on a rooted lollipop stock ROM.
The only suggestion I have is keep your TWRP backup.
Restore a non-rooted 4.16.401.10 TWRP backup and its stock recovery and do the update. After the update, restore your saved data and re-root or install any ROM that you like.
I have one backup in my thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860

I was running ARHD 45.0 with no issues today. While I had converted this phone to a GPE edition a long time ago, it was running Sense for the past couple of days and Cyanogenmod for about a year before this.
I wanted to replace the black Google image at boot up to the stock HTC one. I followed step 3 in this guide - http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/return-your-htc-one-100-stock-unroot-update-0160374/.
After I did that, the phone would no longer boot. (I realize now I installed the whole firmware file and not just the boot screen).
I installed TWRP, tried to sideload ARHD 45 and after the install went to 100%, the phone screen would go black and be unresponsive (except the phone would vibrate once when pressing the power button).
Other than this, I've tried sideloading CM 12.1, my stock ROM from my carrier, all with no luck.
I'm assuming my firmware and Model ID aren't matching with the ROM I'm trying to install? (Although I've used ARHD with the same Model ID, so most likely firmware related).
I have no idea what to try next and any help is appreciated.

Once again, thanks for any help!
You have a super outdated firmware
Flash the full RUU and you will be fine (( all your issues will be fixed i hope ))
Here is the RUU and how to flash
you don't need to relock the bootloader
start from
1. Download the RUU zip

Thanks for your help. I'll give that a try.
These are just ROMs I already had on my computer and some that I just preferred (with ARHD, I preferred Lollipop over Marshmallow).

Ok now i need to mention that this RUU is marshmallow

I got this problem fixed and I figured I'd update just in case anyone sees this post and has the same issue.
I tried flashing the RUU that was posted in this thread and ended up with the error screen that has 4 triangles with exclamation marks in each corner. I then found this post - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66077791&postcount=2 and installed the firmware that is in this post.
After I installed the firmware, I rebooted my phone and was able to access the usual bootloader (with the options for fastboot, etc). From here I was able to flash TWRP, then I sideloaded Android Revolution HD and everything worked.

That's odd. You linked my post, which was in reference to "converting" the phone to US Developer's Version. So you are now running the US Dev Ed firmware; when it was Euro firmware before. I suppose if everything is working fine for you, you may as well leave it alone.
Also, flashing firmware is typically no necessary to run the Euro RUU (its a peculiarity to US variants).
Hi, I just bought a used HTC M8s and I am trying to update the Android version + Sense!
Which is the best version to flash, plus I want it to be as stock as possible!
Thanks!
UPDATE ! ! ! !
1. I tried updating over the air, but after the download completed an error appeared that said I can't update because there is some software modification...
2. Tried downloading a stock RUU from this site HERE
After running the exe RUU it gives me a Customer Id error 131 or something and exits immediately.
So I am stuck with Android 5 for now can't get any updates. Hoping get it fixed soon! :/
What is your getvar all say? What version of Android are you currently running? Does it not update over the air? Did you check for any available update in software in settings?

oh. I don't understand your problem. I have the same model except mine is
baseband: [email protected]
and I have a version main 2.20.401.1
I just made a successful nandroid earlier this week... which I can use to restore my current setup if I factory reset.
I might be able to make a system only nandroid. but it would still be really large and need to be uploaded. Do you have the twrp working?
better yet there may already be some stock 6.01 nandroid up here someplace. Did you try searching for one?

A nandroid backup is a great thing. Restore a phone to a exact state. Are you using the 3.0.3 TWRP found in the next thread over in our phone's forum? (m8s)
download the 3.0.3 and see if it can work by booting into it (dont flash it first see if it works using the 'fastboot boot ('3.0.3TWRP')' command. Using an SD Card create a backup (nandroid) of your 5.0 phone's boot, system, data and recovery.
then you are ready to restore other nandroid backups you find around.
Worth noting there is a lollipop twrp on that thread too. But U dont think you can only use that but you can try downloading it to your phone via that fastboot boot method I mentioned before over the usb cable.
