Download the Xfinity repo source (Google it), then install the Sdcard Usb wizard, make a default location for your backup then launch the addon, pick full backup, & if you send the backup to your stick then follow the instructions again, now push the backgrounds, you now have it working on your stick. Now download the Community Portal source (Google it), go into settings/maintenance & select "Turn to Special", now press that thanks button on Xda
Note
after you install if it don't work properly first time do reinstall the full backup again cause sometimes it takes 2 try )

Great thanks!!! I will try it later today.

ive had fire tv since day 1 already have xbmc. why do i need to root?

What can i do with root that i cant do already?
Here is some of my wish lists:
1. Bring XBMC to the main page without going to settings.
2. Use a external drive in the back
Both are possible with root, as is making xbmc your default launcher.
XBMC on the main screen can also be done via 'sacrificial app' and Lama, and I have read that you can have xbmc as default launcher via careful use of Lama, but for me it was simpler to install Xposed, install the fire tv module, and install the xbmc that's patched to present itself as a launcher.
Xposed and mounting the external drive for apps to see both require root, afaik.

You will obviously need to root (http://www.firetvnews.com/how-to-root-the-amazon-fire-tv/#more-632) the KFTV before adding the XBMC launcher and external USB drive.

1. doesn't require root - explained in Wiki "Launch XBMC from an Existing App on the FTV Home Screen"
2. requires root
Can I still root the absolute latest version of FireTV (i'm getting a new one for my birthday next week)? What are the best instructions to do so?
As of right now yes you can root the latest Fire TV with the Towel Root apk.

[Q] Copy one FTV to Another, possible?

I was wondering if it is possible to Copy over my flash drive from one FireTV to another one. I am buying 2 more for my house, have my first one set up perfectly with all the side loaded apps, XBMC and all of its settings. For XBMC I do have XBMC Backup - it doesn't remember a few things when I use the backup but it gets it mostly right. But loading all of this took me 1-2 hours.
Just wondering if there is an easier way to get my setup onto the other 2 new boxes.
Might be possible to do what you're trying to do with Titanium Backup, I know it runs on the FTV but I haven't used it for backing anything up yet.

1.) Download and sideload SSH Daemon http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=web.oss.sshsftpDaemon on your configured amazon fire tv box
2.) run ftp client and connect to fire tv, using IP
3.) navigate in the android folder and copy the xbmc folder (SPMC com.semperpax.spmc, XBMC org.xbmc.xbmc) to your computer
4.) sideload SSH daemon on the new fire tv, install the same xbmc or spmc version that is one your first amazon fire tv
5.) use ftp client to connect to the new fire tv box and copy the folder from step 3 into the android folder of the new box.

He wants to backup everything, that could be slow as hell to do over again for every app he has. There are also much easier ways to backup XBMC settings. Titanium Backup should be able to let him backup/restore all his apps and their respective settings at one time.

Sure you can...
on your XBMC/KODI pc goto System - settings - add ons -get add ons - Kodi add-on repo - programsAdd-ons and get Backup.
Once you've done that, Open BackUp and configure the path where you want to save your backup. Usually a folder in ur pc where you can be able to access it from Amazon Firetv within your network.
while you are on the BackUp Add-on configuration section.. make sure you go to FileSelection and tick all the options except for the Custom ones and hit ok,
Then Open Backup Add-on and make a backup of your current XBMC/KODI.
You have to install the same BackUp Add-on into you Amazon Firetv configure the path where you saved the file of your backup on your pc and hit saved. Then go back to it and open it up and hit restore from backup.. will show usually some numbers which are the date and time of the latest backup. And there you have it. All the add ons and all from your XBMC/Kodi into your AFTV.
I hope it was clear enough to understand.
Good luck!
Thanks so much..

You need to sideload apps (apk files) using adb or utilize an app like adbfire.

[Q] How to clone Kodi settings from AFTV to another Android Box

Hi,
I am setting up Kodi on another Android box and want to clone all settings from my AFTV. I know how to backup my Kodi settings but don't know how to restore it to my new box.
Please help
There's an addon for that - I've used it succesfully before to move whole instalation, including library to different device.
I think it's this one:

The one time I botched my SPMC (manually tried to clean some files to the point it would not recognize the installation) I simply copied my backup folder (com.semperpax.spmc) over the new installed one. The same works for Kodi (folder name is different, but still under /Android/data)

Clone Fire TV 2 w/ TWRP Backup - possible?

Hey folks,
I would like to clone my fire tv 2 to another one. Was wondering if a simple TWRP-Backup and Restore will work or will it cause problems?
Anyone tried that?

You could try it... but in the past people have had problems. Won't break anything a factory reset can't solve. You can also use Titanium Backup to backup individual apps.
Oddly enough, I stumbled on this thread while working on this today.
I was able to successfully clone a fire TV 2 brand-new out-of-the-box never turned on using this rooting method with the A-A USB cable and TWRP by rbox/zeroepoch posted on AFTVnews.
( sorry I can't post a link to the rooting method because this is my first post.)
However, it hasn't been thoroughly tested and I do have some concerns. ( I will mention later)
NOTE: the following assumes you have already rooted your Fire TV and installed TWRP. You will also need a keyboard ( i'm using logitech K 400) and a microSD card. Also, have your device's serial number ready before you start this.
Here's how I did it:
1. I made a backup using TWRP onto a microSD card. I chose to back up both system and user data. Then safely eject the microSD card.
2. Put the microSD card into the ROOTED Fire tv you want to clone to. Power it up and boot into recovery mode.
3. Click on ADVANCED, FILE MANAGER. Navigate to external_sd/TWRP/BACKUPS/(SERIAL NUMBER)/ then choose "select current folder" on the bottom right of the screen. Choose RENAME FOLDER. Rename it to the serial number of your current device. It can be found on the box.
4. Navigate back to the main screen and choose RESTORE. Click on "select storage" on the bottom right, select microSD card, and hit OK. The backup should now appear.
5. Click on the back up and swipe to restore. VoilĂ !
This works and I didn't need to even register the device. Though that concerns me that there could be an issue if it wasn't registered.
One thing I haven't figured out is that although it installs the apps, applies all the settings (like blocking updates etc.) it didnt transfer my Kodi build. It installs all the apps, and it even keeps the configuration for firestarter, but I have to manually upload my Kodi build after that.
I will keep testing
is this working?

Have you done any more testing? Were you able to get kodi to transfer correctly? and did you unpair your remote and unregister your fire tv before the cloning?

I didn't unpair the remote or on register, but that is totally possible and I will add that. Recently I've added the xposed modules and I did a back up and it works perfectly, even backed up Kodi. I'm not sure what was different before, I followed this exact same process.
