[Q] How to clone Kodi settings from AFTV to another Android Box - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am setting up Kodi on another Android box and want to clone all settings from my AFTV. I know how to backup my Kodi settings but don't know how to restore it to my new box.
Please help

There's an addon for that - I've used it succesfully before to move whole instalation, including library to different device.
I think it's this one:

The one time I botched my SPMC (manually tried to clean some files to the point it would not recognize the installation) I simply copied my backup folder (com.semperpax.spmc) over the new installed one. The same works for Kodi (folder name is different, but still under /Android/data)

[Q] Copy one FTV to Another, possible?

I was wondering if it is possible to Copy over my flash drive from one FireTV to another one. I am buying 2 more for my house, have my first one set up perfectly with all the side loaded apps, XBMC and all of its settings. For XBMC I do have XBMC Backup - it doesn't remember a few things when I use the backup but it gets it mostly right. But loading all of this took me 1-2 hours.
Just wondering if there is an easier way to get my setup onto the other 2 new boxes.
Might be possible to do what you're trying to do with Titanium Backup, I know it runs on the FTV but I haven't used it for backing anything up yet.

1.) Download and sideload SSH Daemon http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=web.oss.sshsftpDaemon on your configured amazon fire tv box
2.) run ftp client and connect to fire tv, using IP
3.) navigate in the android folder and copy the xbmc folder (SPMC com.semperpax.spmc, XBMC org.xbmc.xbmc) to your computer
4.) sideload SSH daemon on the new fire tv, install the same xbmc or spmc version that is one your first amazon fire tv
5.) use ftp client to connect to the new fire tv box and copy the folder from step 3 into the android folder of the new box.

He wants to backup everything, that could be slow as hell to do over again for every app he has. There are also much easier ways to backup XBMC settings. Titanium Backup should be able to let him backup/restore all his apps and their respective settings at one time.

Thank you! I will try Titanium Backup and let you know how it goes. Thanks for responding!
Hi - did you manage to do this with titanium?
I'm looking at doing this myself also. I've got one FTV set up exactly how did like it and want to copy apk's and all xbmc settings in one.

What on earth are you talking about
1 - its not a random repo - its a backup of my setup which includes all the best & most common repos and add-ons - install on a fresh version of kodi and you will have pretty much everything setup in a few mins ready to go - saves you adding every repo manually & installing everything yourself
2 - I'm not a random user - I'm a recognised contributer to xda - I post useful & meaning stuff
If you choose not to use it or its not something you need just move on please
I didn't see your post count, so sorry about that.
BUT, people need to stop replying "if you don't like it, move along." It's a discussion board after all. EVERYTHING should be checked for validity, not just taken as word of God

Indeed that's why you should try it before commenting or judging
I'm all up for discussion but I don't like things like this is better than that or negative comments which aren't constructive eg doesn't work as the user hasn't said why or given any information about errors and so on so it's not a useful comment
thank you for this quick set up
Can't get this to push
Sorry, new user here and I can't get this to work. I'm connected and trying to push the backup.zip file from my Mac, but I keep getting an error message. It says the file "does not contain AndroidManifest.xml"
What am I doing wrong?
***Update***
I figured it out, I was trying to install and not push. I'm in the process of restoring now. The only piece of information that was missing here is to allow hidden files to be viewed in the settings "Before you can see hidden files such as .xbmc (files prefixed with a period are considered hidden), you need to enable showing them in Settings > Appearance > File Lists, "
nice work this has saved me loads of time
Or..you could go to "System", then "File Manager", "Add Profile" and type URL..
http://upgrades.montrealandroidtv.com
Save as .AndroidTV
Then go to System, Add Ons and then Install From ZIP and click on .Androidtv
And you got everything lol

Has anyone else had issues with this backup and or has your issue been resolved? I am deleting my current build tonight (Animal Kodi on Isengard RC2) to install the nightly and this backup. Not sure what I am in for, but as we are running on the same hardware, FireTV, I figured it's worth a shot. Worst case scenario, uninstall. Thanks for sharing!!
Please tell me how to get the backup.zip to my Ftv....I am on a mac running adbfire. I run the push option and the file must be too large because it ends up failing. I tried Firefox and when I get to the mediafire page i get an error about not having something to download it. I can find a way to get the file moved.
you need to install/open Kodi before you send that Zip file(to build file system so you can find it later...duh), currently trying out a few options will report back
Will this method work for the Fire Stick also
And is it the latest version of Kodi?

Hey everybody. I'm new at this and I'm stuck on step 12, choosing the destination for USB/SDCARD. How do I find the "location you placed the backup.zip"? I've done steps 1-11 described but don't know where the backup.zip file is. Is it in one of the blue folders (External storage, extUsb, Root filesystem)?
I know it sounds stupid but I just bought my FTV yesterday and Kodi 15.0 was the first thing I sideloaded. Thanks in advance.

You need to push (using adb) the backup.zip file onto the Fire. Use one of the apps on here to do it - adbFire worked for me.
The only addon I could get live streams for any USA channels to work was the USTVNow addon and those are only the major networks like ABC/CBS/FOX/NBC/PBS. Has anyone else had success with any of the other addons included with this for live streams?

Download the Xfinity repo source (Google it), then install the Sdcard Usb wizard, make a default location for your backup then launch the addon, pick full backup, & if you send the backup to your stick then follow the instructions again, now push the backgrounds, you now have it working on your stick. Now download the Community Portal source (Google it), go into settings/maintenance & select "Turn to Special", now press that thanks button on Xda
Note
after you install if it don't work properly first time do reinstall the full backup again cause sometimes it takes 2 try )
Great thanks!!! I will try it later today.

Jarvis AFTV 4K Kodi not writing to usb/microSD

Hi all
I have an issue with my newly purchased aftv 4k
I moved from the AFTV1 where I could backup all my addons etc to a USB stick. On the new AFTV2, I can't seem to backup at all.
I've read this is because of the new permissions in lollipop but I also read that upgrading to jarvis is supposed to fix this. Can anyone help? Or tell me what I should be doing?
Thanks

I've also noticed this too, was fine on 5.0.4 & kodi 15.2
Yeah my one was fine on my aftv1. Don't suppose anyone has found any solutions to this?
I have found a workaround but it's very very clunky

Jarvis does?
I was just looking for information on if there was an update to Kodi that was able to request/verify write permissions to any directory on external storage and I didn't find anything. I see on here a couple people saying that Jarvis update allows you to write to external (SD/USB) storage, but I don't see any official writeup about this new functionality. Anyone have a source for that info?

Still struggling with this. I Have 5.05 (lollipop) with Kodi 16.0 (official) on my non-rooted AFT1 (Firestarter). I tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire...re-tv-t3220730 but had no success. I can however change permissions through ES file explorer and read/write. Is anyone else struggling with this ? I can of course map to a networked drive (USB to Airport extreme). Can not get much info from KODI forum. Any suggestions ?
Cheers

I have a Fire TV with a 128GB Micro SD card installed. I followed the link you mentioned, followed the instructions to the letter and it created a folder for me at that exact path on the Micro SD card. called "files." Inside this folder, I was able to create my own sub folder called what I wanted it to be called (created this folder directly from kodi) and then used the "Add Source" option in the file manager and in the videos section for quick access.
(Running Jarvis 16.0 )
Quick update: downloaded a tv show from Exodus, and it worked fine.

Did the same, but had no success. I am using an AFTv 1st gen, which does NOT have the micro SD card, but it should not make a difference. Let me go back and re-do. I am using adbfire Shell. Same instructions are here (from guy who wrote adbfire I believe)

Ill let you know if I get it working as I know Im not the only "idiot" LOL:laugh:
Update: I got it - Key is to setup the "sandbox" area as a source, which creates an identical drive to the USB drive, but with the path setup.

Clone Fire TV 2 w/ TWRP Backup - possible?

Hey folks,
I would like to clone my fire tv 2 to another one. Was wondering if a simple TWRP-Backup and Restore will work or will it cause problems?
Anyone tried that?

You could try it... but in the past people have had problems. Won't break anything a factory reset can't solve. You can also use Titanium Backup to backup individual apps.
Oddly enough, I stumbled on this thread while working on this today.
I was able to successfully clone a fire TV 2 brand-new out-of-the-box never turned on using this rooting method with the A-A USB cable and TWRP by rbox/zeroepoch posted on AFTVnews.
( sorry I can't post a link to the rooting method because this is my first post.)
However, it hasn't been thoroughly tested and I do have some concerns. ( I will mention later)
NOTE: the following assumes you have already rooted your Fire TV and installed TWRP. You will also need a keyboard ( i'm using logitech K 400) and a microSD card. Also, have your device's serial number ready before you start this.
Here's how I did it:
1. I made a backup using TWRP onto a microSD card. I chose to back up both system and user data. Then safely eject the microSD card.
2. Put the microSD card into the ROOTED Fire tv you want to clone to. Power it up and boot into recovery mode.
3. Click on ADVANCED, FILE MANAGER. Navigate to external_sd/TWRP/BACKUPS/(SERIAL NUMBER)/ then choose "select current folder" on the bottom right of the screen. Choose RENAME FOLDER. Rename it to the serial number of your current device. It can be found on the box.
4. Navigate back to the main screen and choose RESTORE. Click on "select storage" on the bottom right, select microSD card, and hit OK. The backup should now appear.
5. Click on the back up and swipe to restore. VoilĂ !
This works and I didn't need to even register the device. Though that concerns me that there could be an issue if it wasn't registered.
One thing I haven't figured out is that although it installs the apps, applies all the settings (like blocking updates etc.) it didnt transfer my Kodi build. It installs all the apps, and it even keeps the configuration for firestarter, but I have to manually upload my Kodi build after that.
I will keep testing
is this working?

Have you done any more testing? Were you able to get kodi to transfer correctly? and did you unpair your remote and unregister your fire tv before the cloning?

I didn't unpair the remote or on register, but that is totally possible and I will add that. Recently I've added the xposed modules and I did a back up and it works perfectly, even backed up Kodi. I'm not sure what was different before, I followed this exact same process.
