Knox free Lollipop root? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Is there currently a way to achieve root without tripping knox if your phone has the latest update?
Or, is it possible to somehow revert back to a version that can easily be rooted using a knox free method?
Would appreciate some guidance, as this is new to me.
I had wanted to wait until I owned my phone for some time before rooting it.

The best method that I know of is to downgrade to KitKat, root using TowelRoot (which does not trip knox), and then update to 5.0 using Mobile Odin Pro.
There is a thread with instructions for this here

Mods need to mark this as solved imho, the poster has a viable solution from a senior member

[Q] Rooting without tripping Knox

Hi,
Since updating to 4.3 (biggest mistake I've made), I've been looking for root methods or a way to downgrade back to 4.1.2. I tried the De La Vega Root method but that didn't end up working out. I heard Kingo and VROOT are malicious. I was going to try the CF Auto Root Method but I don't want to trip my Knox Counter because I've heard I won't get any future updates if I do so. What methods are available to root my phone or downgrade it back to 4.1.2?
Phone: Galaxy S3 (SGH-i747M on Rogers Wireless)
Baseband Version: I747MVLUEMK5
Build Number: JSS15J.I747MVLUEMK5
I think I have the same problem as you. But are you unable to get further updates if you remove knox?

As of now, trying to downgrade will brick your phone. Rooting thus far will most likely trip counter. For now, there is nothing you can do but ride out and hope there is a solution. I would not try anything further until something is confirmed to be working. You are taking a chance on bricking your device otherwise.
Flash TWRP via odin (newest one). When rebooting from the recovery screen, accept to install root. Once you boot the phone, install the SuperSU via TWRP and the phone will reboot. Once booted up again, open SuperSU and you'll receive a prompt to remove KNOX, click yes. You're done.
Thx for advice

Has this been tested to not trip knox counter?
From everything I have read, the Knox counter will be tripped.
From Chainfire re i9505 (https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/ZKuMQ3fNzuN):
Knox Warranty on new I9505 ROMs
As I've stated before, my dev version of Triangle Away is currently operational (though not yet released) for the flash counter and binary status with the new Knox I9505 ROMs.
If you have an I9505 you've probably noticed the new Knox Warranty status in the bootloader, and I know some of you are hoping Triangle Away will reset that.
Unfortunately, that's unlikely. I've taken a look around, I've disassembled the bootloader, etc, and it looks like an efuse might be involved ( == not resetable ). I'm not exactly sure what triggers it yet either.
Mind you, I'm not a bootloader expert nor have I spent hours and hours digging through it, so there's a chance this information might turn out to be wrong later - but that's what it currently looks like to me.
If you were on 4.11 or 4.1.2, you would not have knox on your phone and rooting would not be a problem. You would just need to reset the flash counter for warranty purposes.

Dude you have to try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
I was experiencing the same issue, but I used this method to root my telus s3 i747m on 4.3. Since you claim that you are on rogers download the 4.3 rogers root file and flash it via odin.
Here's a root method that allows you to keep knox. I haven't tried it out myself but I know that the no knox version works perfectly.

So did you solve you're problem?
I'm curious if anyone has any success with this method...
using saferoot
http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2013/12/Safe-Root-Android-4.3-Galaxy-S3-S4-Note-No-Warranty-Void.html
and if so, did they install
safestrap via this method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448942)
or
other recovery programs?

Rooting, KNOX, Safestrap, Kingo, and RLDV

So i've been doing some research and RLDV clearly can achieve root without tripping the flag. But it seems too messy for me and I really dont want to be assed to download so many things. I hear about Kingo and was curious if this was useable to achieve root as well and not trip the knox flag?
Furthermore, I read somewhere that it's actually possible to flash SafeStrap and not trip knox flag? anybody have more information on this?
I just used Kingo, one program to download, it probably downloads extra files automatically (it's multi device) and I have root, pretty much painless. I'm assuming Knox flag is not tripped, but I'm too lazy to look for info how to check, since it would be too late now to do anything anyhow. Surprisingly it did not work with my older back up phone GS3, updated to 4.3, Knox included. Kingo will also unroot your phone as well with one click. Can't help with Safestrap, as I just wanted to remove region lock and kill some bloatware.
kingo will NOT trip Knox. and it's painless to do. download app on the pc, connect your device, click a couple times, instant root. nothing else changes
From my understanding it is not the root that trips knox counter it is when you put a custom recovery on

[Q] Should I OTA Update?

Hey guys, I'm rooted with a few system modifications (few apps deleted, very minor changes, mostly through xposed). What should I do before I OTA update to 4.4.2?
Also, I'm not KNOX tripped, so I'd like to keep it that way.

Is there a non-KNOX trip root method for 4.4.2?

Honestly I couldn't tell you. I just did the update to my phone. I'm looking all that up now. As far as your back up. It's always a good thing to back up your current rom in case you ever wanna go back to it. What I did was just flash stock Rom with out root using Odin. And I received the update today. It just now finished. It takes a good min to download. It's 495mb rather big big file.

Odin with the new firmware then boot into recovery and wipe the phone and cache. You'll be back to stock 4.4.2
I'm not sure if they're is any proven methods to achieve root without tripping Knox for 4.4.2, I personally don't care about tripping Knox and cf auto rooted.

I'm of the frame of mind that you should never accept OTA updates unless you have no plans at aftermarket firmware modification. Since you are already rooted I would caution against it...even if only to establish good habits. This OTA might be safe but who knows if the next one locks up the bootloader? I'd Jump immediately to another device. I have no desire to get stuck on stock, especially with a risk of no exploit available for root...for a while? Forever? Who knows...that's a roll of the dice I'm not willing to take. The developers do amazing work and I am thankful for every moment of time they spend making roms, finding root, writing recoveries, etc etc etc. But I am not so arrogant as to expect every patched up whole to be cracked open again, by someone else no less.
It'll probably be less than a day (I've seen it take less than an hour on some devices) until a dev has a flashable zip and a pre-rooted Odin image that doesn't trip Knox.
...I've seen tons of impatient users posting after rushing to grab the update asking how to rootagain, or how to unlock the new bootloader, how to get back things they used to have...over many many many devices. Just because T-Mobile has been cool in the past is no indicator that they will continue to be cool in the future.
...patience...

Which version of cf auto root did you use? I read only the n9005 works. The one for our phone (n900t) doesn't. I want to use it, but not sure which one, so instead of trial and error, maybe you can guide me where you got yours. Thanks.

use this one http://download.chainfire.eu/352/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip
you're right the one for the tmobile variant does not work, i tried it first and it put me in a bootloop.
here's the firmware you need http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=26282
flash through odin, wipe the phone through the stock recovery then cf auto root also through the included odin.
EDIT: i for got to mention, if you use cf root YOU WILL TRIP KNOX. if you don't want to trip knox, don't update or update but don't cf auto root and wait till someone comes out with a workaround.

Another 4.3 bootloader question...sorry

I just want to be absolutely sure, so here goes. I am on stock, rooted 4.1.1 at the moment. If I just let AT&T run the 4.3 update, I can still keep/reroot root, I just can't go back to 4.1.1 correct?

Yeah, that's correct. If you go stock 4.3, via the OTA update, you will lose root initially. You can, however, always re-root. The most effective method to root after 4.3 is to Odin TWRP, boot to recovery and then flash SuperSu and the knox remover tool via recovery. Install SuperSU from the play store and run it to update the binary when prompted.
Won't let me thank you on the mobile app, so I'll do it when I get home from work, thank you! Wonder what happened to the premium version I paid for. Took my money and ran lol

Installing the OTA 4.3 update will also install Knox. Rooting will trip the Knox counter which will void your warranty. If you have no warranty left, tripping knox will now be a problem.
You should also know that Knox can sometimes interfere with obtaining root.

So one person saying you can root no problem, another one saying you might be able to root, might not? This is why there should be a very clear sticky at the top of the forums for everyone to read about just 4.3 and all there is to know about it. Because maybe's are pretty terrible when it comes to flashing/unlocking/rooting/bricking your device.
I don't care about warranty, I'm getting the S5 shortly, I just want to be able to root after the update, is that possible with lets just say the Auto root program, or is it not possible? By possible, I mean I won't have to go out and trade 7 cows for a horse and plow a 600 acre field with said horse.
EDIT: I think I've fingered it out, Thanks for the help fellas.

There is no question about it. You can root even after 4.3 OTA. I've done it half a dozen times. Audit is right that you will trip the warranty but since this isn't an issue ...
The usual methods of rooting including CF Auto-Root don't always work and the method I've used with success each time is Option 2 in the thread below. The knox removal script disables knox ...

Upgraded to 5.1.1 and keep root

I have rooted with ping pong and am completely stock with root.
How can I upgrade to 5.1.1 and keep root?
Since I am rooted I'm not getting ota. Is there a firmware only package I can flash with Odin?
Flashfire can flash the update but I get a boot loop from it.
Just wait... At this time there is no root options for 5.1.1
Not even with flashfire?
That will work if I can get/make a firmware only Odin flashable.
If you read around there is nothing right now. And if you flashed to 5.1.1 there's no way to downgrade back to 5.0.2 either. I would just wait it out until there's something out. That's what I'm doing.
You can update to 5.1.1 using Samsung Smart Switch, you will lose root once you update. Currently there is no root method for 5.1.1.
So, if root is important to you, than as others have stated don't update till a new root exploit is available.

Either that or someone cooks up a rom 5.1.1 with root built in. But either way yeah root has to be figured out first
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
In the past I have normally used mobileOdin to flash the new version and inject root, then flash the remaining partitions with a firmware only file made for Odin. I haven't seen any of those made yet. When someone makes that it might be possible.
There are some of those @TheArtiszan in the S6 section, but it seemed that the updater script or something still flashes a recovery img, even if it's not included in the package... http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...ndroid-5-1-1-update-available-t3135498/page21
I have an idea, but not sure if it works.
The official firmware is a TAR/MD5 package which basically is a zip package contains all img
Can we flash individual img using FlashFire and add SuperSU.zip to queue for flashing?
In this way, if it works, can still keep root and not trigger knox.
Anyone dare to try?
Edited
OK, it wont work cause i think the whole rom is knox security enabled by default
even if you have a nandroid backup that was on 5.0.2 are you unable to downgrade from 5.1.1 just from flashing it?

That would be ideal, but it might be a while. So far, from what I can tell, 5.1.1 is very strict about root - so long as SEAndroid is Enforcing. And currently, the only way to set it otherwise is to install a custom kernel (therefore tripping KNOX). But, somehow the PingPongRoot guys managed to get root on 5.0.2 without tripping knox, so perhaps they'll pull through for us again?
Yeah that would be cool. Does anyone know if Samsung Pay is disabled only when you trip the KNOX? I know if KNOX is tripped you definitely lose Sam Pay. If you avoid tripping KNOX do you still have Sam pay capability?

Somehow I think SamPay will require Knox intact AND unmodified /system partition.(which they are enforcing by knox security aka kernel check)
Would using SuperSU's feature of installing to System allow keeping root while updating from 5.02 to 5.1.1 and not tripping KNOX? I don't have any real experience with using that feature, I used to use Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.
