remove battery for a few minutes and try again.
some time ago there was a rom, that wasn't able to charge the battery while turned off, so if you have external charger, just try that

All,
I screwed up and flashed my Rhodium last night when it's charge was < 50%. (I was tired and not paying enough attention)
On booting back up it appears to no longer charge the battery. I've tried the following:
* turned it off and charged it for 3 hours and then did a hard reset (talk, end, power all together). No luck. Started at 4% and slowly dropped to 0% and turned off even while plugged in to the stock charger it came with.
* bootloader reset as advised in a post by dotcompt then reflashed. It started at 1% and died even while connected to the stock charger.
Is there anything else I can do to fix this? Should I try either of those things again? Or did I manage to turn it into a paperweight?

Battery % has nothing to do with flashing. I flash with less than 50 using SD card, and does charge good.
Try a stock ROM and see if it changes. If not, you might need to try a different charger.

Yes! With a stock ROM (T-Mobile WM 6.5) the battery indicator is already up to 20% (the most I'd seen with DeepShiningv10 was 6%). I'll keep charging it and report back.
I am now up to 50%!
I wonder why I had issues when I flashed a custom ROM.
Here's what I did for future reference:
* Turn off and charge for three hours.
* Turn it on and immediately pressed Vol down and the red reset button.
* Flashed a stock ROM (TMOUS 6.5).
* Turn off and charge. W
When I turn it back on the battery indicator is going up. For reference turning it off and charging when I had DeepShining v10 didn't move the indicator much (5 hours only moved it up to 6%).
Turning it back off now and waiting for the LED to turn green before I try anything else.
Thanks for the stock ROM suggestion.
I was using my phone as a wifi router for a long period of time, for about an hour, while it was on external power. The phone reset itself a few times and then turned off. Now if I press the power button it begins to power on but turns off after a few seconds. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm not sure if it matters, but I have an energy rom installed.
Thanks
Try this
remove / reinstall the battery?
my friends did the same thing more or less and that fixed his
he said it reset the battery image??
I tried removing the battery and putting it back in, but no luck. I also let the phone sit with the battery removed for an hour but that didn't work either. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Does the phone charge? Maybe the battery got depleted. Try charging overnight. If that doesn't work, replace the battery.
The phone does charge. I'll try charging overnight tonight, hopefully that works.
My phone was all fine, till i flashed Arco's CM10, then my phone started randomly switching off. When started, it showed 0% battery, which was weird as it was always properly charged.
Then i restored my CM9 backup, to check if it was a ROM bug, but I got the same error again.
Attached screenshot for battery stats. Battery problem or Software bug ? Anyone with same bug ?
After flashing the ROM, did you wipe battery stats? If not, that will probably be the cause of the weird readings......
Basically, over time, your phone would have calibrated the battery usage to your previous ROM....when you installed your new ROM (that has different battery usage patterns) your phone is still trying to apply the stats from the old ROM which is what is causing the problems.....wipe your battery stats then complete 3 or 4 full charge - full discharge cycles, and things *should* settle down....
From my Galaxy W on CM9 and CWM6 with Tapatalk 2
Tried that...
But it gets weirder and weirder :/

Try the battery calibrator on the playstore.
If it still persist then the problem is in your battery.. suggest you change the battery with the new one
Pressing "Thanks" button will be much appreciated if user's posts useful for you
Or you can try this:
Clear battery stats via CWM. Turn off your phone, and charge it. Wait until the charge indicator shows up on screen. Then turn on your phone and leave it until it's full.
Sometimes when I get batt weird reading, that trick works for me.
In some occasion I found that offline charging and online charging shows different battery level.
when should i plug the cable if use ur trick?

Clear the battery stats first via cwm then turn off your phone after that you can plug in your charger.

Just like reddvilzz said above. After charge indicator shows up on screen, turn on your phone (but do not unplug the charge) and leave it until it's full.
My Note 4 have been shutting off whenever battery level hit 4 - 5%.
When I try to turn it on, then it will turn on until att logo and restart the phone again until I plug in the phone or take out the battery.
I have tried to factory reset my phone twice but this problem still occurs.
Is there a way to fix this?

calibrate your battery..
use the phone until it dies and turns off. leave it turned off and plug it into the charger. let it charge to 100% and then let it run down until it turns off again. charge it back up to 100% while it is turned off and you should be good to go
Thank I will try it tonight
Update: I have tried three times with charging my phone while it is off and etc. but it seems like it is still turn off around 4%.
Is there any other way to calibrate the battery?
My Galaxy tab S 8.4 wifi (klimtwifi) doesn't turn back on most of the time if the device runs out of battery completely and shutdown.
Even if I put it for charging overnight, it won't start charging at all and doesn't turn back on when i press the power button. When I try charging say 30 times, in the end, it may charge and turn back on. It's very difficult to go through the same process every time battery completely drains off.
When I had this problem it was running official Samsung stock rom, I then installed LineageOS 14.1 and I still have the same problem.
Question
1. Is this a hardware problem? What could be a hardware fix? Change battery? Has anyone managed to fix this problem?
2. For now, I would like to fix the problem by using software. So can I make lineageos 14.1 to force shutdown every time charge reaches 10% instead of letting it drain completely? This way I can put it on charge and restart the device every time.

Maybe you don't give the device enough time for charging. Buy an usb ampere meter to see device charges without showing any reaction.
