I have a D852G model and the new OTA has just been made available by Videotron :good:
Only thing is, my phone is on Android 5.0.1 (version 20b) and the OTA won't install. I tried using LG PC suite to unroot ("Repair") but it refuses to do it because there is not enough space. There is still ample space on the device (about 15 Gb).
I tried getting a fresh version of the PC suite, and the release notes include a note indicating it cannot detect remaining space for android 5 and over. At that point, I am still stuck, since the SuperSU "remove root" does not work either.
Is there any other way to upgrade WITHOUT losing everything on my phone?

Since the update is 1200 Mb sized, I assumed M had already started shipping
Well, I'll postpone the backup-restore operation for a few weeks until 6.0 is official. Too much work for a point release.

My E975 is rooted (not boot unlocked), I can download this update and the device restarts, then after a short time an error message comes up, the device restarts and loads as normal, then a message pops up that states root suspected, so cannot update
This appears to be a protective mechanism against rooting, so updates are only available for unrooted devices
Now, the solution seems simple, I unroot, update and then root again, however, I suspect it's not this simple
Can someone please advise if there is a workaround or would the simple option work?
As I don't want to lose root

I've unrooted and made sure there is no trace left, have restarted the device, then downloaded the V10J update via OTA, ran the update process, got to the update screen and at 3% progress get error 0x13E, device restarts and there is another error message that states:
- Software update, problem with installation
Have tried to update OTA 3 times and the issue is the same each time, I wonder if this is the same issue as last year on the AT&T version:

Gave up on OTA, soft bricked my device shortly after and used the KDZ Updater method from the FAQ (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434917), which updated my device, so I'm going to leave it there for now
Also, if anyone is wondering (like I was), yes, stock JB 4.1.2 (E97510j-EUR-XX) can be rooted via Framaroot, using the gandalf exploit and I had no related issues

So, the other day I got the 5.0 OTA on my rooted 4.4.2, and I naively updated it, without knowing that:
1 - I'd loose root and my recovery
2 - There's no way to root 5.0
After two days of trying stuff, I finally understood what many people know, I suppose, but I couldn't see it written clearly anywhere, so I thought I'd share. You have to:
1 - Flash back 4.4.2
2 - Root 4.4.2
3 - Flash a custom recovery
4 - Flash a rooted 5.0 from custom recovery
I now have a rooted 5.0
Here. It's not very complicated to do, but maybe it's so obvious for people who know it that they never care to put it like this (I'm not complaining, I actually did find all the information I needed on XDA and learned a good deal of things about my phone on the way so it's cool).

Sorry I lack experience so much with the forum that I posted without any content initially so you must have thought that I was asking for the solution. I get that you can't simply root 5.0, but you can actually get 5.0 rooted if your phone has 5.0 non rooted by switching to 4.4.2 first, which is really what people want to do when they ask that question. I have seen your answer before, and almost gave up trying, but I'm glad I insisted. Just saying "you can't" is just being deliberately unhelpful (or not knowing what you are talking about).

Some more information on how to get there:
To get 5.0 rooted, you need to:
- take note of which 5.0 version you have on your phone and check you can get the bumped image somewhere, if you want to have exactly the same at the end.
- update LG PC Suite or at least the Windows drivers for the G3? Honestly I'm not sure how important this is, since I was playing around for hours and I did that in the process, maybe it's necessary. It is necessary to have the drivers installed at least.
- find the 4.4.2 version of the ROM for your phone (mine was V10e-EUR-XX), versions are different for 16GB/32GB versions.
- flash it with Flashtool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089)
- root using your favourite tool (I used one I had on my PC, not sure which version but PurpleDrake should do: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/root-root-lg-g3-easily-purpledrake-lite-t2821000)
- find a TWRP image
- flash TWRP (I used this tutorial: http://www.phonearena.com/news/How-to-flash-a-custom-recovery-like-CWM-or-TWRP-on-Android_id53914)
- find the bumped version of 5.0 for your phone (mine is V20e-EUR-XX and I found it on this forum)
- flash it using TWRP
- start the phone and set it up (it should be rooted already)
- install the SuperSU binaries using TWRP
Fun and heavy Titanium Backup freezes ensue! My phone has now 80% battery left 8h after being disconnected from the charger this morning, as opposed to 60% after two hours just after installing the OTA update.
Note: this was done on the unlocked 16GB European D855 version I bought in the UK. Not sure about other versions!
Bonus: in order to improve my battery life, besides Titanium-Backup-freezing the hell of the LG bloatware (I think McAfee and LG Health are the main culprits) and some Google bloatware I don't use (Google Play Apps anyone?) But there is no info, where I can find out WHY it is how it is.
So, why is 5.0 actually unrootable? And will this change in future?

No, this won't change. Restricting services to their context means that bug in almost any service won't be able to compromise entire system. That's a great security feature, actually.
I went back to stock out of the box lg kitkat rom from cloudy rom by flashing KDZ.In my update app there is no ota software update showing,it is only showing as usual Lg app updates.I flashed the KDZ numerous times but not any outcome..Is my ota blocked due to flashing recovery or rooting?Do they do that?Did they block my imei?
Sometimes it takes awhile (may be upwards of two weeks or longer) before an OTA update shows up as available after flashing back to stock. And it wouldn't be blocked because you previously rooted and installed TWRP. Just make sure you don't do either if you plan on taking the OTA. If you had instead used LG PC Suite to go back to stock, you would have ended up w/ the latest software available for your phone, and wouldn't have to worry about taking an OTA update.

I'm also interested in this answer. The only reason I haven't updated to (any ART) rom is because I'm unsure if I can just restore a Dalvik backup without issues. The only way I would attempt is with TWRP.

Install it, will put an icon on your desktop, plug in your phone, open the app.
It's pretty much automatic, it updates the ROM from KK to Lolli, then if you hit "OK" it will update from Lolli to MM
- I just got both of these steps to work in the last 24 hours.
I'm still trying to find a valid "Root" method that doesn't ask me to install a funky ROM.
I went from a KK stock-rooted(TWRP 3.0) rom to the MM 6.0 Rom, realized I didn't really want to set everything up again, restored my KK backup. Only problem was I had to reflash the modem. That was a couple of days ago and the modem was the only issue.
I'm unsure about flashing a new/clean KK rom over a MM rom though.

I think I missed a step, in KitKat this phone needs a special command thrown at it so the memory cards will be read/write.

Question related to "After updating, you will not be able to downgrade..." message
Hope you guys are safe and well.
Currently my A50 on August update. I have no problems with this update but I like to update to Android 10 for additional features. I'm reluctant to update because of this message. I'm afraid that if I had problems or something wrong with the new update, I won't be able to go downgrade to August update.
So, Is it really impossible to downgrade using Odin with an official firmware?
I'm coming from iOS and hence the fear of updating. As you may know, iOS downgrade is impossible when Apple sign-out the old software.

Most major OS updates (i.e. from Android 9 to 10) also update the 'bootloader', which is a little piece of software that initializes your device, and runs before the system can even start (when you turn your phone on).
Once the bootloader is updated, it's often impossible and certainly not recommended to downgrade the OS, since you may permanently brick your device.
If Android 10 is out for your device model (eg. A505G in my case), just go ahead and update. I don't have any issues with it whatsoever, in fact it has fixed quite a few bugs (wifi connection would frequently drop for me in Pie with February/March updates, and now it doesn't anymore).

But can't I backup the boot loader too? Also, I heard that the official firmware includes the boot loader and therefore I won't have problems downgrading. I'm confused.

I think... and I could be completely wrong, but it keeps track of the highest version of bootloader you installed. So it will not allow you to boot if you flash the older one. However, I am not sure how it behaves if the bootloader is unlocked.
If anyone have the same concerns I had. I found out that only security updates seems to have this message and risk bricking your phone in case you downgrade to lower version. Some people confirms that they were able to downgrade without any problems from android 10 to android 9 on their A50.
It also made sense that there are no problems since the warning message only included with security updates. The android 10 Update change list have no warnings related to downgrading to older versions.
March security update had the warning message. And I had to do the security upgrade before the android 10 update was available OTA.
