Hi! Was wondering if it is normal for my M9 to be this hot with only some light gaming? It's battery life is kinda bad too, with the battery draining even when the screen is off.
I'm currently running lollipop, unrooted.

Yeah it kinda freaks me out. Any ideas if this is a hardware or software problem?
I would be concerned with that battery temperature. I've never seen mine get that hot. I never saw any overheating issues on lollipop so I believe you may have some hardware problem. Your poor battery life is likely from degradation of the battery itself from such high temperatures. You should definitely look into getting your phone replaced.
Is it a new device? First check you installed every OTA updates. I have got mine since 2 weeks and received 3 major updates. Ensure NFC &, Bluetooth and GPS aren't activated as long as you don't need it.
Even if Snapdragon 810 is known to be hot, mine seems to be quite with it even before underclocking.
Those temps are normal behaviour and nothing to worry about.

This sometimes happens to me too but if i were using my phone for a while before gaming
It depends on ur usage but consider that to be normal the m9 heats up quickly

I use my phone about average with data and messaging stuff and my phone gets hot enough to burn me. The camera part is what gets the hottest. I turned fast charge off and had a significant temp. decrease. Is this a problem with my phone or fast charge? Is anyone else having this issue? I am running AOKP b35 on my CDMA Gnex.
CDMA phones tends to get really hot but side of it.. Maybe you are more sensitive than others? I mean Yeah you can feel the heat but as far as your phone keeps working its all good.. Remember you have a dual core processor inside.. Try to put your laptop or pc in your face and tell me of its cold lol

thats normal, especially when plugged in. it will get hot, especially with fastcharge enabled. plus, from what i hear, aokp tends to make it a little hotter.
My phone gets up to 119°F when I push it. Its normal.
pushing it hard at 1.689ghz.. 102C cpu temp, and 122F battery temp(the cpu temp widget needs to be updated to fully show 100C+ temps ). the safety for the cpu temp is at 110C. once your cpu hits that, your phone shuts down automagically. and it works, ive hit 110C cpu temp a few times before(just to check the safety, normal use you would never get that hot).

I've notice this specially around the camera lens.
i'm on third party ROMs, they control temperature extremely well. outstanding ones being Foxhound and SlimICS. try them, why not?

based on my experience, temperture controls may vary in different ROMs as the kernel remains the same. so some ROM may fit best with specific kernels that's why i recommend flashing ROMs not simply kernels

The temperature is controlled by the kernel as far as throttling goes.
Heat is generated by the CPU and that is controlled by the kernel.
The only way a rom is involved in temperature is the processing it males the CPU do.
So ya, kernel.
I was always unsatisfied with my battery life, but now it's gone too far!
1. No matter how long I charge it, at the very second I unplug it it goes down to 99%.
2. It doesn't even go down correctly, one moment it's 65% and the other it's 58%. Always.
3. It drains soooooo fast even though I do nothing with it!!!!
Here are some pictures
1. This is 17 minutes after unplugging it, all I did was to put music on [earphones] and check if my girlfriend was online on Whatsapp.

2. That's after a minute and a half, 2% less, doing nothing but listening to music with my screen off!
3. One minute later..
4. Sixteen minutes later, phone is idle and untouched [not even music, I started my shift]
5. Again, idle.
It lasts 3 hours tops!!!! What the hell do I do.

This app already told you the culprit! Your getting wakelocks so an app you installed is keeping the device awake all the time. The rest is for you to figure out partner . Use the search function on XDA and you will find all the info you need.

Ok might be but to the level where the phone doesn't last 3 hours? That's not cool. It should be lasting more even with heavy using.

yeah you're right, it should last more anyway! maybe it's the rom.. what rom are you using? or maybe the battery failed. it happened to me with another phone, basically i was in the seaside with about 38°C the phone was boiling hot, the battery was fully charged but in about 20 mins it was at 5% without even using it then it died. since then that battery never worked again and i had to buy a new one. do you remember if you had a similar situation or if your phone overheated for any other reason (maybe while charging or near a heat source)?

I use Android Revolution HD.
It got heated a few times but not too hot, and besides, I read that it happens to everyone..
Just received an alert for a new update. What does this update do? I installed it and nothing changed. I never really experienced heating issues before.

It's bugfixes for heating issues and the camera mostly.
Normal day-to-day usage on .6, .8, and .15 software didn't result in any significant heat problems, but running intensive benchmarks like 3DMark ES 3.1 or a few runs of Antutu and the phone would turn into a small oven. On the .30 software the benchmarks are about 7% - 10% lower but even under insane conditions the phone is only slightly warm.

Ah. I did run a benchmark test on .15 with Antutu and the phone got warm, but not hot. What does this update do for the camera?

Nice - confirmed on my Dev Edition as well (both are 617).
Can you upload the system dump of this new version? thx
I have the dev edition and have not really noticed any heat issues until the upgrade, I think the software scales back this cpu a bit. While the update was installing, my phone became an oven, and it only took 2-3 minutes to install. Once in the OS, it cooled down quickly and functioned normally.
Can you guys post a few random shots using full auto mode after updated? We would like to take a look at the exifs.

OK, I received the .30 update and I will say the phone still feels hot on the back, especially if playing YouTube videos non stop for 30 minutes

huh?
Even with this update the phone does still get warm. I'm sure HTC will release more maintenance updates. The phone is brand new and will have issues like all phones when new.

I am seeing similar numbers on my new Note 7 on AT&T. So far the battery life blows for me, the set up is identical to my Nexus 6P except I have Google Now always on (launch from your voice regardless of whether the screen is on or off) turned off. All other apps are the same, sync is the same, etc. I'm hoping it's something simple or the phone just needs to settle in otherwise I'll go back to my 6P.

Im guessing it still has the wifi calling bug from previous samsung phones
Good..so it's not just me. Android System is usually around 20% and now Android OS is around 20%. I am also on AT&T. Battery life has been pretty subpar in my opinion, so I'm hoping it settles in after awhile.

I've been facing the battery drain problem since i bought the phone few days ago .
Even if the screen off its obvious to see the draining and its really annoying me
Is there's anyone facing the same issue ?
Should i go back to the store and replace it or its a software problem going to be solved in updates ?
Do a factory reset and all must be good.
I have battery drain after March update.

For anyone to help or comment further, he would need to have a better insight. Battery usage graph, LTE, WiFI usage etc. Moreover, i guess you might need to re-look at your Apps. Offten, rogue apps are the culprit.

When i bought the phone. Google app was draining my battery at standby. Just update your google app and should be fixed. Also share your battery graph like Sukhi said.
