Strange Bluetooth/WiFi interaction after MM update - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, I'd really appreciate any help anyone could give me in solving this problem...
I upgraded to MM a few weeks ago and at first had some odd WiFi issues where the phone would not connect, or stay connected very long. After about half a day of tearing my hair out, clearing my cache, and reinstalling apps it all seemed to "come good", and had been ok for a few weeks.
A few days ago, however, everything went bad again. Here is what is happening:
On my 2.4Ghz wifi network, when the phone is woken up using the power button or double tap, WiFi does not work. The phone reports that it is connected to WiFi, and (according to the Ping Tools app) has an IP address, but there is no connectivity to the outside world (or even to my router or NAS box). After about a minute or so, the connection magically "comes good" again, and the WiFi works normally. This is very frustrating as while the phone is asleep it has no IP connectivity so I don't get any notifications for email/messages etc. I have the default "yes" setting for the "Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off" option BTW.
I have discovered that if I switch to the 5Ghz WiFi network on my router then I do not get this behaviour - the WiFi stays connected while the phone is asleep and there's not the same period of no connectivity when it wakes up. Unfortunately the 5Ghz network doesn't reach to the front of my house so this isn't a viable solution.
I have also found that the odd behaviour does not occur if I disable Bluetooth on the phone. Since I use Bluetooth audio in my car, it's a bit of a pain to disable/re-enable it but it's the workaround that I'm currently using.
The strange behaviour does not occur if I reboot the phone into Safe Mode... the WiFi stays connected while the phone is asleep, and 2.4Ghz WiFi works straight away when the phone is woken up. This seems to indicate that an app might be the culprit.
To try and diagnose this I have
- cleared the cache and rebooted a number of times, to no avail
- done a factory reset and reinstalled my apps from Google Play, but end up in the same (broken) state
- changed the default channel for 2.4Ghz WiFi on my router several times
So I'm at my wits end now. I guess I could do another factory reset and reinstall my apps manually, one by one, and see which one (if any) breaks things. But I'd like to to try and avoid this. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to determine what could be causing the problem?
Phone is an H815 running Android 6.0, V20a-EUR-XX. Totally stock, locked bootloader.
Sorry for the lengthy post.

I have approximately the same thing. Switching Bluetooth doesn't help in my case. I had to wipe cache from within the phone to make it get better again.
One other thing was to throw away my aluminium bumper. Do you maybe have one ?

Oh, I got excited at your case suggestion as I got a new case a couple of weeks ago which does have an aluminium bumper. But I just took the case off and alas the problem remains.
Unfortunately clearing the cache doesn't work for me. I also found a setting under Backup and Reset to reset network options but this didn't help either.
Next step might be to reinstall the OS or try the repair option in LG Bridge. Unless anyone else has a better idea?

Tihs issu not MM specific exist on LP
Try another chanel (In router)and use only N 2.4 Ghz
But is see you try..
Go and use warranty.!!!

I think I've fixed it. I just started uninstalling apps and checking to see if the behaviour persisted after uninstalling each one. After uninstalling TuneIn Radio the WiFi started working with Bluetooth enabled again. I reinstalled all the apps that I uninstalled (including TuneIn) and everything seems to be working again. I doubt it had anything to do with TuneIn - just a weird interaction of who knows what. It's not terribly satisfying and I suspect it will happen again, but hopefully this thread will help someone who might have the same problem.

[Q] HTC One Wi-Fi Connection Issues - Please help!

I need major help!
I am currently on my third HTC One, after two attempts at a solution, and I am still having the same problem. Here it is: I will connect to my Wi-Fi at home, successfully browse a few pages online, press the power button to put it to sleep, press the power button again to turn it back on, then see (in the status bar) the Wi-Fi disconnect then reconnect, try to browse more pages online with no luck because the connection does not work. The only way I can consistently get Wi-Fi to work on this phone is after waking up my phone from sleep I have to turn Wi-Fi off then back on to re-establish the connection.
I've check my settings extensively and changed a few defaults in an attempt to get this to work. Here are my settings currently: "Keep Wi-fi on during sleep" - Always; "Wi-fi Frequency band" - 5 Ghz only; "Wi-Fi optimization" is checked; "Best Wi-Fi perfomance" is checked. My Wi-Fi password was entered correctly and I am currently writing this on a laptop connected to the same home network.
I am at my wit's end. I just want this beautiful phone to work properly. Are there any suggestions as to what might be causing this and how to fix this situation? Or am I doomed to an endless cycle of HTC One exchanges until I find one that works? Please help! Thanks.

very sorry to be hearing this.
just for sh**s and giggles, have you tried un-checking
"Best Wi-Fi perfomance"
Honestly, 3 HTC Ones having the same problem, and such a specific same problem... Sounds like a problem with your router.
I would try totally resetting your router. Not just unplugging it, but resetting it completely and setting it up again.
I had something similar happen to me (phone wouldn't connect to WiFi upon wake-up, I also had to turn WiFi off then back on) with my HTC Evo several years ago, I exchanged the Evo thinking that was the issue but the exchanged Evo did it too. Re-setup my whole network and have never had the problem again.

I will give that a try. I'm thinking the same way. There's no way I can go through 3 phones and have the same problem and be the only one who is having this problem. I will gladly wear my dunce cap if it works. I just want to end this Shakespearean tragedy.
And to answer andybones, yes the default is to have that selection unchecked so I had the problem even with unchecked.

OR
VZW needs to drop an OTA, QUICKer
Go to a Starbucks, friend's house or something and test it out.
The problem has to be with your router. My One has the best WiFi connection of any device in my house except when I can't run hardwire to my desktop. But that has two 3" antennas.
It's the security, if you're running WPA2 it might have problems. Try changing encryption to TKIP.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. What solved the problem for me was that I went to the Verizon store, had the technician help out, and they Googled the problem and saw that a factory reset would solve the issue. I never saw this result when I Googled the solution, but I went along with it. This worked in the store and I was able to connect to the wi-fi hotspot in the store. When I went home the wi-fi connection worked just fine. The reason I didn't do this in the first place is because I did a factory reset on the first two phones I had and the problem persisted. For whatever reason it worked this time.

i bought htc one and it seems i also have this issue ..BUT .. i have an wifi extender and seems it attachs with it very smoothly .. so i think the problem is inside the router it self ..ill try to figure out why .
EDIT : The problem seems to be only exist on the D-Link Routers which i have "Not sure if all router or just mine" .. it gotta be frequency disturbing or something
Same problem for me. here is what ive gone through..
Just got the phone today OUT OF THE BOX
first thing i seriously tried was connecting to my linksys router with a wpa2 algy.
im on a dumb data plan and need to conserve, Anyway wifi was having a hard time connecting so i slapped the thing in airplain mode and tried to to reconnect to the router.
no dice, ok.. hmm did a factory reset twice, you name it i tried it.
taking it in the store for a replacement this week.
No need
I found out the problem is in the router it self .. you see , it connects to some old routers in condition they dont have password ... Im not sure why but i changed my router and with new one and gave it password and everything works fine now.
The problem seems to be in old routers i think.
Edit : my new router is tp-link im not sure about others

[Q] Major WiFi issue out of nowhere?

Hey all. I need some advice. This morning my G3 (D850) dropped WiFi connection for no reason. It says the signal is good but the network info says saved, secured. It will attempt to connect over and over again and if it does connect the signal is weak as can be and it drops the connection within 2 seconds. My coworker has a G3 also and is connected to the same work network I am. His connection says excellent where as mine said good. His device connects just fine with full bars. I'm baffled. I've already tried manually selecting 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz instead of auto select and that didn't help at all. I've tried manually turning off WiFi and turning it back on. I've tried turning airplane mode on and then off to refresh the connection and that didn't help. I've done a battery pull as someone in one of the android authority forums suggested that (apparently I am not the only one having this issue.), didn't work. I've unchecked WiFi optimization - no dice. There was another post on a different forum here on XDA that said turning off WiFi and then deleting the WiFi config folder located in data/etc/wifi and then rebooting fixed the issue for them so I tried that. After reboot when I tried to turn on WiFi my G3 rebooted itself. Does it everytime. SO, I had to restore to a nandroid backup (btw I'm on rooted stock 10f) to get the phone to stop hating my WiFi toggle attempts. Last ditch effort I did a factory reset hoping for an easy fix... Nope. I don't know what else to try. It was fine yesterday all day. This morning it was perfectly fine and then randomly started having this issue. I haven't altered any system files whatsoever. I really don't want to send my device to LG for warranty replacement so I'm hoping someone can help me out that may have had this issue and resolved it. The only difference between my device and my coworkers device is he is still on 10d and I am on 10f. That could be the issue I guess but that doesn't really explain why my device has been perfectly fine until this morning and I've been on rooted 10f for weeks. I am planning on flashing back to straight bone factory stock 10d when I get home here in a few hours from work but Idk if that will help or not. Judging from the amount of google search results of "LG G3 WiFi connection problems" this seems to be an issue for several people. I won't know if it's on the software side or hardware side until I get home but in the meantime has anyone had these issues at all? People have had success in changing to Static IP but I would have to do that for every connection I attempt to connect to and that's a pain in the a$$. Also, that does nothing to identify the root cause of the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. =)

Thanks for the reply. So it turned out my phone just randomly decided it doesn't like my work network anymore. Idk why lol. I got home and it hooked right into WiFi. Gf's WiFi and open networks as well. I call shenanigans. I went ahead and flashed back to 10d anyway though.

I am having the same issue! But it is happening in other networks too...sometimes I get the phone to connect but it only works for a while and when I check the networks it only says Saved, even if I try to connect again
Having the same issue, whether at work or home, my wifi has become near useless. I've even gone as far as trying a different ROM. Didn't work.
Same thing here
I also have tried factory reset, installed a new ROM, changed settings in my router... but the problem remains I don't know what to do anymore, I use wifi a lot!! I searched through other topics but no one seem to know how to solve it. Unfortunately my warranty already expired, I took my phone to some technicians but honestly it didn't help at all...they all said it was a software bug and I should wait for an update but if it was just that a new ROM would fix it,right?
I am not very familiar with phone hardware but I assume that if it was a hardware problem I wouldn't be able to turn it on or connect to any network, right?? (any experts here???)
Any solution is welcomed.
anyone please?? :crying:
P.S : I tried a new baseband, new kernel and new ROMs. So far, nothing changed.
I can connect sometimes but get kicked out within minutes. At other times I only get the saved, secured message.
This is happening in every network

Had WiFi dropouts on every LG ROM on this device.
It would drop on any WiFi network I tried. My old phone and all other devices have no issues at all.
Bit the bullet and unlocked bootloader and went to CM13, rock solid WiFi now. IMO LG's software is borked.

Right now there is only one way: LG Developer program.
I think that is problem with 6.0
My network is ipv4 and i think phone force ipv6. In developer options have option to use lollipop settings but i think that is not doing any better
There was an issue with Verizon 12B that was recalled with similar issues.
Never had Wi-Fi issues otherwise. It was patched in 13B

Same with me on 20a... wifi connects but there's no internet connectivity. Then it comes good for a while but eventually drops the wifi connection completely. Sometimes it forgets the wifi password and I have to re-enter it. Makes the phone essentially useless on wifi. A factory reset seems to be the next step unless anyone has any other suggestions?
Same problem on 20b
The WiFi problem seems to have settled down for me now. I went on a binge of uninstalling and reinstalling apps, cleared all app caches, rebooted several times, and recited some incantations (mostly beginning with f). I haven't spent a lot of time using it on WiFi but it seems a lot more stable. Will keep an eye on it and see how it goes.
I came back to a stock based ROM from CM13 because the lack of camera functionality and all my WiFi dropouts are back again. This is really disappointing with this phone as it is completely random and none of my other phones/devices have ever had problems like this. End of my tether with it to be honest, this phone will be going on eBay at this rate.
Well I've been running catlog tonight and it didn't take long for the WiFi to blip.
If there are any catlog experts out there I would really appreciate it if anyone could have a look to see if there is any indication of what is causing this random disconnection and then reconnect shortly afterwards
Many thanks in advance.
Sorry, can't help with the catlog. But having same problems.
I did 3 hard-resets with always the same result: wifi works fine for 1-2 days, than breaks.
The connection is strong an seems stable but data-throughput and ping times are ugly (0,4 Mb down, ping around 2-3 seconds).
Here's a screenshot that perfectly shows the impact: same phone, same setup, same wifi. just 1 day between the tests.
i.imgur[dot]com/JYI7b9I.jpg (sorry, can not upload pics)
Any ideas how to fix this? a DNS problem?
btw: IPv6 is disabled on the router.
I have the same problem and i found a solution for me. I'm using pebble smartwatch with G4 and i noticed that when i disconnect my watch or turn off bluetooth, wifi stays stable. If you have a bluetooth device like me you can try this method.

I've also had my G4 get into a state where Bluetooth is stopping WiFi from working. I posted a thread about this here. To summarise, I've twice gotten into the state where my WiFi disconnects whenever I put the phone to sleep. When it wakes up, it takes ages to reconnect. Sometimes it fails to authenticate and forgets the password for the WiFi network. Even when it is connected, the connection is very flaky. This only happens when I'm on a 2.4Ghz network and Bluetooth is enabled - if I disable Bluetooth or switch to my 5Ghz network then WiFi is ok.
I've had this happen to me twice now... the first time was straight after the update to MM. I fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling apps, and eventually it came good. After a few weeks the phone got into that state again. I tried clearing cache, factory reset, and reinstalling MM using the LG Bridge "Update error recovery" option and nothing helped. Once again I went through my apps one by one and uninstalled and reinstalled them and once again the phone came good.
This is a huge pain in the butt... not sure how long the phone will hold out before it gets into this state again. I really hope there's a MM update that addresses this soon.

I've noticed my Bluetooth problem in two ways. One of them was connecting a Bluetooth speaker while the watch is connected. When i connected speaker too, wifi had no issues.
And the other situation that i made my wifi stable was going into safe mode. Even Bluetooth on i was able to connect and stay connected to wifi when i was in safe mode.
Which apps did you have to reinstall? Do you remember?

I just started going down my app list and uninstalling apps which looked like they might have something to do with bluetooth, then putting the phone to sleep and waking it up to see if the problem was still there. I got a bit slack and maybe uninstalled two or three at a time before testing. I should have been more systematic about it but I wasn't really expecting it to work. I'm pretty sure the last one I uninstalled before things started working was TuneIn Radio so if you have that installed you might want to try uninstalling it. I've since reinstalled it and WiFi is still working.

G4 refuses to connect to wifi

My G4 only starting to act retarded about a week ago. It refuses to connect to any network. It gets hung up on obtaining IP address and then just disables wifi and starts this loop again. I have no idea how to fix this, there are no network settings under developer settings (**** you VZW) and I'm lost.
Can someone help?

I've had this problem a few times. It has magically "fixed itself" but then come back some time later. It has been ok for a while now (touch wood). A couple of things worth checking:
1) Have you tried rebooting in safe mode to see if it still happens? When it was in the broken state, mine would still connect to WiFi when rebooted in safe mode. Conventional wisdom suggests that this means it's an app that is causing this problem but I'm not so sure.
2) Do you have Bluetooth turned on? When mine was in the broken state, it would connect to WiFi when Bluetooth was turned off, suggesting some kind of strange interaction between the two.
3) Are you connecting to a 5Ghz network or a 2.4Ghz one? Mine only exhibited the problem when trying to connect to 2.4Ghz networks.

Very weird WiFi issue

Hey guys. I'm having a very weird WiFi issue on my A520F.
Today the WiFi froze. It wouldn't turn off when I switched it off. After I while it turned off but took ages to turn it on again.
I factory reseted the device because I thought it was a software issue. It didn't work - after the first boot it was the same.
After a while after this, the WiFi started working again, but only for a period of time, then it would just freeze again for apparently no reason. Switching it off and on solves the issue for a while, then it freezes again saying that my WiFi is limited.
I can't take any logs since I'm not rooted (and don't have a PC to use ADB), and this is really scaring me since it happened out of nowhere. An hour before this started happening WiFi was working just fine.
I haven't installed anything unusual today, just connected for the first time on a new, but trusted, WiFi.
I've also reseted my WiFi router to its factory settings, thinking that it could be the issue, but the problem persisted. My Chromecast works just fine on the very same network.
Did this happened to anyone before? I've tried to root my phone a while back and, since it didn't worked out, I gave up and flashed the latest firmware from my country. This phone originally came with German firmware in it and I flashed it to a Brazilian one, which is the one I'm using and had no issues so far.
Can this be a hardware issue?
Thanks in advance!
So I guess I'll end up solving this on the weirdest way I can imagine.
After I posted I logged into my modem's settings and took a log at its logs. Seems that the moment this issue started to happen was near the time that the DNS server my modem was using started to fail.
I never thought that such a simple thing could mess this things like this. I mean, the DNS server is essential, but how that could freeze my phone's WiFi? Either way, I changed the DNS to Google's DNS and since then I haven't had any freeze or disconnetion. I'll test a bit more to see if the problem is gone.
Well, I do believe that I found the root of the problem.
As some of you may know, modems tend to stay on for a very long period of time (no one wants to lose internet connection, so we rarely reboot then), and for reasons I don't know (and as a tech support guy I've seen this happen A LOT) they freeze sometimes and only work again after being completely turned off and on.
Since the issue started again when I was messing with the modem settings (trying to change the DNS again to see if the problem would return), I decided to give my modem a few minutes of rest.
After that, I've powered it on again and went through the initial setup (my ISP provides an simple wizard when you first connect to the WiFi) and up until now I'm not having issues.
I'll wait a few more hours to report again, but so far so good.
So it seems that giving those things a few minutes rest every month or so isn't a bad thing at all.
