Best root method for G4? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been doing alot of reading, just switched from a G3 to the G4. Now that it's been out and guys have been doing this for a while, what is the easiest root method for the G4? For my G3 I simply used TowelRoot but I haven't seen that option for the G4, what's the hot ticket now that there are a bunch of choices?
Thanks-Dan

Douche, I mean dude, if you had sharper reading comprehension skills you would see that I have been reading the forums, I have been reading for days. I was looking for a quick, intelligent response from guys that have done it, not some "dump" ass response from a guy who thinks he's cool telling people to search.

You don't specify your model nor your current os, so without any of that information we can't give you a recommendation...beside that, there is just two methods to root your phone and depending on the version, just one.

Well, you DO sound like you are upset...
Regarding OP, it depends on your model.

Then maybe a forum isn't where you should be hanging?

To the guys who are willing to help, I thank you and appreciate the help. My phone is an AT&T H810 running 5.1.
To 5nickers, I'm sorry to have upset and offended you. I suggest you just ignore this discussion and let the grownups handle it. Thank you.

On 5.1 I used this method. Works solid, but is far away from a single click solution.
Btw: Since your bootloader is locked, you can't have MM with root.

...so after you flash a modified system partition, root will prevent ota's and you can also disable the updater lgdmsclient to make sure. Stay on LP then wait for progress on mm in case useable root comes about but it's not looking good atm. Even on unlocked BL phones most root apps work poorly.

i think low effort method is the best choice out there
google it or you can find it here
you are welcome anytime to ask

Just rooted no other changes it will not fail. You will lose root by taking the OTA and at this point rooting the OTA will be the same as flashing the OTA manually, so not really a point in worrying about it. No one knows for sure what date we will get what, but EL29 was leaked days before it OTA'd for example.

Spelling is ok but thanks for your response. Voice talk and quick submit button was the victim but once again thanks for your kind words
Edit:
by the way what I was trying to say sfhub has tools that check your OTA compliance and his methods of rooting do not mess you up for taking an OTA but honestly why are you taking an OTA anyways... my bad had to ask, it is your choice...
Hey ewmccraw did I spell everything right?

I may have misunderstood your response to the OP, but I felt like you were rebuking him a little for not using google search first as opposed to just posting the question. I apologize if I did. It's just a little pet peeve of mine when that happens. After all, it's just the internet and that's the whole purpose of a forum. You know, free discussion and all that....again, sory if I missunderstud (see what I did there?)

I get it that its a forum and no prob but that does not mean you forget everything that got you to this point and that would be the search function. I will suggest using the search function as well as providing an answer... No prob and I think you spelled discusion wrong----(see what I did there) LOL
Thanks for the answers. Well the reason I wonder is because once we get ICS source and ROMs start getting built won't it be easier to flash ICS ROMs instead of having to switch around different kernels/ recoveries to flash and risk of brick will be lower? And I just didnt do a ton of searching because I been busy posting is faster.

[Q] Will the G4 ever see all the known ROMS (Dirty Unicorns, Resurrection Remix,...)?

Coming from Samsung and Sony there were always many great ROMS available for the phones.
It looks like there's already a new phone in LGs scope which will come out soon.
(And there's also the locked Bootloader we have here - which might get opened sometime?)
What do you think about the LG G4?
Will developers skip the phone and directly proceed to the newer phone?
Will we ever see so much support like for the other phones (Samsung, Sony,...)?
What are your opinions?
Once the boot loader gets opened for everybody then i think we will see Roms.
Verstuurd vanaf mijn LG-H815 met Tapatalk
Based on how popular the G2 & G3 seemed to be (and really still are) I am sure once we gain the ability to flash ROMs they will start to flow our way. Even with the G4 Pro coming in December (allegedly) I do not think that will slow down the development for us, it will just give the Devs one more device to play with.
(We still have ROMs for both versions of the S6/S6 Edge and the Note 4/Note Edge)
Sooner or later yeah. But first people need root and ability to flash roms.
Sent from my SM-G920T
International version can already be unlocked, rooted and has twrp availible. I am quite confident that there will be developement done. But the device is quite new so let the devs some time.

"We" don't have root yet. Yes there are a couple of devs that were able to root a phone, after bricking their first phone. While it is highly likely that there will be a root method released to the masses, there is no guarantee that everyone will get root access. I bought my G4 with the assumption that we'll get it, but also aware that we may never get it. My S4 is my daily driver until we get root access for the G4.
It should be much easier to find a safe way (for Joe Schmoe) to root, with the rooted G4 they currently have.

I Just got my new G4 for fathers day through sprint unfortunately, also have a LG G Flex 2 which is a POWERHOUSE. well both are monsters, but i cant wait for root and unlocked bootloader+carrier unlock, hopefully they all come soon.
also i just went from a G2 to the G Flex 2 to the G4, love them all
I have a question. I understand that root has been achieved on the G4 and that the method hasn't been released. My main question is this: when that method or other methods are released, would any of them offer a bootloader unlock along with it or would users have to rely on the LG site to do so? Right now I have the 815 version and know the bootloader is unlockable but do not have a pc to do the bootloader unlock process. Am I better off waiting for an official release here on xda that may involve a bootloader unlock?

Estimate Date

Hello, I regretfully make this thread to ask how long it usually takes to get root for a phone without a pc.
Currently, I'm out of the county visiting family and they asked me to trouble shoot their laptop. The short version is that I need to use the ZenFone to mount an image file so I can reinstall the OS. Of course this requires root so I can't do it. And since I have no other access to another computer, I'm stuck hoping to find root without a pc.
Thank you in advance and remember, I'm just asking for general knowledge for the timing for a semi popular phone and I in no way demanding to have it.
Just so you know, before you get yelled at by others, ETA's are generally looked down upon.
But to sort of answer your question, it completely depends on what method was used to root the device.

True to an extent. I've always bought phones that were 2-4 years old so they had time to mature. Having a newer phone takes time to get stuff so it's an even trade off.
Is there any way to flash the pre-rooted system image without using a PC?
Possibly kingroot? There is an xda thread. I don't know off anybody has tried it.
