Hi, thanks for your reply. I've tried stock as well as custom firmwares, all the same issue. I bought this phone from aliexpress(chinese product website) so I put the issues im having down to that, although it's displayed as R800i.
in flashtool, I read somewhere to tick "disable final verification" but I had no luck. I haven't changed anything else in my attempts except for wiping userdata and cache.
I'm at the point now where I'm going to contact the aliexpress supplier, hopefully I can get more insight to this and perhaps find the correct firmware

Try with some older version of Flashtool. Some users reporter similar problem, but i can't recall which older version is working properly. I personally use v0.9.10.1 (it worked for so long, so there was no need for me to update)
as the user above me said, try the "previous version" on the flashtool website..i had the same problem, the latest version didn't work on my xplays, the previous version did. also, are you able to enter flashmode (or fastboot, but if i understand correctly your bl isn't unlocked)?have you tried to flash a ftf with recovery and flash the rom from there?
If you didn't unlocked bootloader, try to use Sony PC Companion to "reflash".

I can affirm , that here with Sony Xperia Play r800i, I could not flash a stock ROM with the latest version of FlashTool, but I could do so with the 0.9.18.4 version (and older).

I had the same problem, installed companion and in update option you have a "restore" or " repair" link, after doing all the program said, the Xperia Play it booted again.
I had to do this several after several times, bue every time my Xperia Play booted again
Hey,
In Sony Ericsson PC Companion, I can't get pass the Battery thing,
Posibly your battery is under 50%
How would i no when i can't even boot it or anything?
@sonny788 If it's not rooted and/or you haven't unlocked your bootloader, then take it to an official SE repair shop and let them fix it. It's under warranty then.
You might try another pc/laptop to flash from or uninstall pc companion and flashtool and then reinstall it with all drivers again.
You could also redownload the ftf file or re-extract it.
Are you using version 0.2.9.1 beta of flashtool wich is afaik the only one supporting the xplay.

You need to go to an option in SEUS that'll repair your phone and that should work. Can't remember the actual path to get there and i haven't got SEUS installed on my netbook nor do i have my phone (in for repair, will pick it up today).

I traded for Play today and was going to try and load CM7 on it. I could not get it into fastboot to I could only get into download. I tried using flash tools but that seems to have borked it more. Now it won;t boot and just sits in download mode.
Not sure what I can do. If anyone has some ideas that would be great. Thanks.
I tried the SEUS and it come back that there is no software for my phone.
Since SEUS isn't working for you, it gets a tad trickier depending on what model you have. If you're on Verizon (r800x), you need to find the firmware 3.0.E.2.89 FTF and flash it with flashtool. If you're on ANY other carrier (ie. r800a, r800i, r800at) then you can flash the generic r800i or r800a firmware. The various firmware FTFs can be found in development section. Just make sure that you know whether your device is CDMA (Verizon) or GSM (literally any other carrier) before flashing the wrong firmware. Best of luck

+1 very true it took me a week of reading on how to root and unlock bootloader before I did anything to mine asked alot of questions and annoyed alot of people even so I have been Modding and flashing my G1, SGSI900 and NEXUS ONE for years
I have a couple of Generic FTF files and I always get a fail message from flashtools.
I am almost positive it was running a different firmware when I got it as it is a R800a and the software said R800i. I was more frustrated at it not entering fastboot as it should from the way it is described in the video's and tutorials.
This is not my first android or even first attempt at working with difficult devices. I have had a Motorola Milestone, Dell Streak, HTC Incredible S, and my first run with XDA was my HTC vogue. From everything I read it should have been fairly simple to get it into fastboot but when I held the "search" and plugged in USB cable it would just go into charging mode.
Here is what the flashtool outputs:

Sounds like your phone is sim-locked and branded. If yes your carrier has locked you out of fastboot and you need to unlock it a different way.

Hey guys,
Been a long time creeper of these forums, haven't gotten myself stumped until now so I figured I would request some help from the guru's. And yes, before making this thread, I have been searching for about 3 days straight trying everything I possibly can.
Current settings/specs:
Phone: Xperia Arc LT15i
Android Version: 4.0.4
Kernal version: 2.6.32.9-perf
[email protected] #1
Build number: 4.1.B.0.431
Bootloader is not unlocked
CWM not installed
Problem:
I went from an old custom rooted Gingerbread ROM directly to the new ICS 4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.431) using the latest version of Flashtool. Now that I have done that I am finding it impossible to get CWM installed, unlock my bootloader, root, or really do anything I need to get this done.
What I wanna do:
Ultimately my goal was to get this ROM installed MooDeD ICS 90.2 LRS Edition! If I cannot do that I at least would like to find a way to either downgrade to an older FW/Kernel and start "fresh" so I can take the proper steps to get that ROM installed OR at least find a way to root this version so I can get Titanium Backup working and re-install all of my apps.
While I am not a total noob when it comes to this stuff (I've modded several other phones and gotten ICS running on my HP Touchpad) I am thinking I am in over my head here. If you guys need anymore information from me please lemme know!
Thanks a ton everyone.
Hmm, so your main issue is that you can't root your phone.
What you need to do is download the 4.0.3 kernel (.562) which is rootable using DooMLorD's Rooting Toolkit. The 4.0.4 kernel is not rootable.
Either download the entire fw (.562) and flash just the kernel excluding everything else in Flashtool or just download the kernel alone. Root it and once that's done, flash back the 4.0.4 kernel. (You've already got it in the .431 fw. Just make sure you exclude everything other than the kernel). That's about it.
Once you've got root, you can install CWM by installing pvyParts's Xperia CWM Auto-Installer from the market. Titanium Backup should now work since you've got root.
And as long as you've not got a branded device, you can unlock your bootloader at any time via the official Sony route.
Thanks for the reply.
I tried doing what you recommended (flashing just the kernel for .562) and I get the following error:

Is that because I am just using a bad .ftf file, or is it something else? Is there a particular download you would recommend (whether it would be just the kernel or the whole fw). Something I did notice when I'm doing the Firmware Selection in Flashtool under 'branding' it just shows up as a bunch of squares, not sure if that means anything.
Thanks again!

Even if I am just trying to just downgrade the kernel alone?
So I have been playing with a few options and can't seem to get past this error, does anyone have any suggestions as to what should/shouldn't be checked if I only want to flash the kernel, or do I have to flash the whole FW?
You have a problem with sin header.
I suspect the file was damaged ( maybe in the download) or the bundle creation wasn't done successfully.

I have tried downloading a few different ftf files but they all seem to do it. I'm currently downloading one called LT18_4.1.A.0.562_NCB, was debating trying that one. I assume it doesn't matter that I have a LT15i (based off what I have read). Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks again
Hey everyone,
So some great news, I got it rooted! Wouldn't have been able to do it without all the above help.
In case anyone ever has a similar problem I will explain. What I ended up doing was downloaded a different .ftf file, the exact one was called 'LT18_4.1.A.0.562_NCB.ftf'. I then flashed just the kernel (unchecked wipe data and cache, excluded everything but kernel, and of course checked no final verification)
Once I did that basically all I did was follow the steps in this video.
After I did that and had it rooted (yay!) I did what xtacy mentioned and installed pvyParts's Xperia CWM Auto-Installer from the market to get CWM running, and that's it!
I assume now I am good to go and install MooDeD ICS 90.2?
Once again, thanks you guys!

Hi !
Glad you got it working though i visit this topic for the first time. Wish i could help sooner.
Anyway, i did also the same by flashing an Arc S ftf (LT18i) on the Arc (LT15i).
So far i didn't experience any serious issues except maybe the fact sometimes, my phone requires me to reboot itself. It happens once every 2-3 weeks on average. It's confusing at first but i got used to it.
Actually i also use an LT18i as workphone and i don't have the same reboot message as for the LT15i.
I don't know if the following can help but i would discourage to upgrade to .431 and remain in .562 if you like modding your phone. When I flashed to .431, the Xperia S Power Widget i had modded to .562 didn't work properly and brought some notification bar vanishing symptoms for some 20 seconds or so. This, for me, was unacceptable. Therefore i came back to 4.0.3 in .562 for both devices.
If this can help any reader ...
I just got my Xperia Play, so i'm a total noob on android things.
A friend said me that I have to root, unlock the bootloader, instal this kernel forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804003 and this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1854682 , but I can't root my Xperia, i've tried by the one-click method and stops in the step 7, when says "waiting for the cellphone", or something like that.
I've tried by that method that have the runme.bat, it says thats done, but I still don't having the Super User app, and in the cmd says that cant find some places and some files are read-only.
And I've tried via flashtool too, but stops saying waiting for cellphone, then it forces the rooting but it can't place files 1, something like that.
There are any other way, that explain detail by detail, for noobs like me?
And sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language.
Thanks

Did you install the drivers in the flashtool folder. To gain access to that folder you must go into your C drive and find the folder called drivers and make sure you accept all the permissions it asks you. IDK if there are more drivers it really depends if you installed the programs correctly or not.
When it asks for the drivers... In flashtool... (little box with a bunch of drivers listed) make sure to check flash & fastboot @ the bottom.

Recently, Xperia Acro S was been removed from the Unlocking Bootloader list on the Official Sony site.
As maintaining a thread on Acro S section, some of my friends were unable to unlock their bootloader due to missing device in the list.
So, I Emailed Sony few weeks ago requesting them to re-list Acro S, and they said, they'll look at this. Now its been Re-listed.

Did you checked weather your Bootloader is unlocked? If not then check it.
Also try to repair your phone through PC companion.
Its a strange problem. Hearing it first time.
Did you followed exact procedure of the Guide that I linked?
I don't think it occurs due to heavy flashing of ROMs, because I have used every ROM available for the phone for almost 100 times. I usually change my ROM after a month.

The problem occurred when the user try to flash back to stock ROM from Custom ROM.
The Bootloader is unlocked.
Now the BL appear to be like this: Bootloader Unlock Allowed = No (*#*#7378423#*#*)
Enter fastboot fail (No fastboot detected), Only Flash is allowed.
To install CWM or TWRP required fastboot, so I can't do anything besides keep trying to flash wiith different version of stock FTF.
Solution I tried but failed:
- Fix using Sony PC Companion (PCC)
- Flash any version of stock ROM, inclusive of just flashed the "Baseband" only.
- Flash Acro-HD S0-03D ROM then flash back to stock ROM.
- *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information -> Set preferred network type (any of the option & reboot)
- Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode(any option & reboot)
- Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks -> Select providers (automatic or manual), it manage to detects the service providers but registered on the network failed.
- Insert other active SIM Card
I try to locate the Antenna Board but it seems like it was attached with the mainboard. Unlike Xperia Z, the Antenna Board is seperated.
I assume this problem occurred when the partition accidentally bricked by Flashtool? I did try to flash different version of Baseband, nothing seems work.
I need someone favors. Create a Pre-rooted Stock ROM(.ftf) with Recovery Accessed (CWM or TWRP).
I found somewhere from this forum stated that tried to install back any of the Custom ROM to fix the No Signal Issue which it appeared to be my last hope. Without Recovery(Required Fastboot to install), I couldn't install any custom ROM.

First of all let me clear that 'Unlocking Bootloader Allowed = No'
That means you cannot unlock it unless your coming to stock from other ROM.
Also Bootloader can be unlocked only once. So if your coming back to stock from custom, why did you tried to unlock your BL again?
Even if you flash stock ftf, you no need to unlock your BL again.
Secondly, don't try to flash other ROMs into your phone, you could mess up everything, even hard brick.
Your Fastboot mode isn't working, right? If so, then try to install fastboot drivers from flashtool driver pack. Maybe it could work.

I did not lock my BL, it just lock back by themselves. I still remember I unlock my BL with Sony Official way in 2013. After that, I did not touch that BL again. It's just after the recent flash which I did the same way like before(Custom to stock ROM), everything mess up.

I even format my pc which I thought it was my pc issue earlier. But ends up I realize it was something regarding to my BL. With BL Unlock Allowed: No, you cannot enter to your bootloader or fastboot.
This video is showing exactly my problem now:
Other thread that I discovered with same issue as I am:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432566
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/help/xperia-z-signal-drops-unable-to-connect-t2183045
My very last but not recommended solution is to change the motherboard. However, looking at the posting not only me having the issue and it mostly happened when users are flashing back from Custom ROMS to Stock ROMS.
Changing motherboard is like changing another phone, your feeling towards the phone changed.

After flashing stock ftf, the BL status always shows 'Bootloader Unlock Allowed = No' but it is actually unlocked. So it does not get relock after flashing stock ftf.
It seems like a serious problem.
Maybe, flashing other ROM will help you a bit. For that Obviously your phone must enter into fastboot mode (which is not happening). In this case did you use 'dd' command for installing recovery? If not then you could try it. And I think you'll be succeeded to install recovery and further you can flash ROM.zip through recovery.
You just need to copy recovery.img into your internal memory and enter some command's using adb shell.

You must have used a newer version of flashtool. This is causing similar issues for many people. The only solution for now seems going to Sony service center. There is another method too, flashing the TA backup, but I don''t know if it works or not.

YES, I am flashing with NEWEST VERSION of Flashtool. After that, the result turned nagative.
Do you mean TA Partition? Do you have a backup copy of it?

Latest UPDATE about the issue, PLEASE TAKE NOTE BECAUSE YOU'RE ABOUT TO BRICK YOUR PHONE JUST LIKE ME. THIS IS IMPORTANT!
@hitman-xda , Please pass this message around. Btw, How to quote the name?
If everyone here in this post flashed their phones with Flashtool 0.9.19.x version, then congrats my friends, we're all become owners of bricked phones with no network signal. Flashtool 0.9.19.x versions have sript error which replaces original Ta partition leading to unlocked bootloader to become locked and loss of network signal. If you're guys haven't backuped your Ta partition prior to bootloader unlocking then that's all.

Flashing with latest flashtool flashes a partition which renders modem of the phone useless. Yes, I mean the TA partition. Each phone's TA partition is unique, so if You flash mine or other person's TA partition, Your phone would not even boot.
This is toooooooooooooooooooooooooooo OVER! It means my phone is bricked forever.
It's their mistake but we have to bear it on our owns.

Yes, nothing worked because Flashtool just accidentally bricked our Sony in the whole world. A careless mistake destroy the phone.
In 0.9.18.X, simlock.ta is always excluded by default but a careless mistake on the version 0.9.19.(1234) (at that time), The Simlock.ta is included while flashing. Each phone TA has their own unique number. Besides changing the mianboard (the only solution right now), no ones manage to solve this issue.
I wonder how many Sony phone in the world has already been bricked by this Flashtool update.
Androxyde said:
On 0.9.18.X, even if simlock is included, it is excluded from flashing
On 0.9.19.5 I did this way :
- simlock is excluded by default with a warning when including it (unticking button)
- When simlock is included, when flashing, a YES/NO box appears asking if you are absolutely sure you want to flash this unit.
- When creating bundles, simlock can be included (no risk with 0.9.18 as it is always ignored)
So if you have a TA backup, with 0.9.19.5 you can restore the 07DA unit (then reactivating the phone). Thing you cannot do with any previous release as 07DA unit is hardcoded_excluded.
I will publish another patch that will backup any TA unit that is about to be flashed. That way there will always be a solution to come back to the previous state.
simlock, if present, is always ignored in 0.9.18 release
simlock, if present is excluded by default with the ability to include it with a warning and a user query before flashing the unit
people who had issues are ones using ftf bundles created prior to 0.9.18 with simlock included. Never had issues on 0.9.18 as it is excluded by default, I forget to keep this exclusion on 0.9.19.[1234] and added a defautl exclusion on .5 with the ability to include it anyway.
But maybe it is not the right way ... I was asking myself when I did it. I want to give the ability to restore 07DA unit if ever a backup exists
The only way to recover from locked phones is to reactivate them in a service center or to restore the 07DA unit.

Well, that is disappointing
Hard to believe, that Sony really did that serious change in its software.

At least you're out of trouble. I suggest you need to backup your TA Partition just in case.
Each TA is unique and cannot be transferred.
If your TA is used by 3rd party, they may face a Hard Brick & cannot be recovered anymore.
Well, this is an added Security by Sony. They are not stupid to "share" openly for free.
Now I'm realize.

That's bad but still not too late. Your next Sony in future will be secured
I'm already ordered the replacement mainboard.
What kind of mainboard-Lock BL or Unlock BL, I do not know because it's not a new one.
Waiting for shipment.
