Where does an app store it's files on my HTC One M8? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an HTC One M8 running ViperRom.
Anyway, I have Amazon Video app installed. It allows you to download videos and play them back on your phone. I downloaded one video it's over 700MB.
I want to find where the files are stored and see what file format they are. Maybe I can stream them elsewhere from my phone?
I have tried to search, but can't find the file. I tried to do a search for files > 128MB and can't find it.

I haven't used the Amazon Video app, but I imagine it is like Spotify. When you download files to your phone, they are encrypted, and you can only use the app to play them.
That being said, you can find any files and folders on your phone using the DiskUsage app from the playstore.

I suppose you're right, thanks. I was able to find where the files are.. they're split up into close to 1300 directories, each with a file in them about 400 - 530KB in size, which adds up to 625MB. I don't know why I couldn't find it with ES File Explorer, but with DiskUsage it showed it to me easier and I was able to navigate there with ES.
Amazon used to let you download videos to your PC, but not any more. I would play them back and record so I could keep them forever. I just am always afraid I bought digital content and one day in the future if I want to watch them and they got taken off Amazon I'll lose them.

Help putting films onto my Blackstone

I've recently tried uploading media files to my phone but they won't play. The first film I uploaded was an AVI file. This didn't play because I don't have a divx player on the phone. Does anyone know where I can download a player for my phone?
Second film I tried to upload was a dvdrip in Mpeg~1 format. This didn't play in the media player either.
Could anyone tell me the best way to get some films onto my phone?
To transfer the files I have just been dragging and dropping them into the storage card.
First of, I would recommend Coreplayer to play divx movies and what not. It's smart to get the blackstone video converter which was in the rom section I thought, use the search function
Sorry for spellingerrors, typing this in the bus on myblackstone which is a tad bumpy! Cheers.
There is a video converter in this forum which converts many types into ones which the video player from HTC (from the album) can play.
If you dont want to have to convert the films I would also reccomend using coreplayer. Its not free but it is worth paying for.
If you want a cheaper option you can download divx mobile player for free. It wont play the files as smoothly as coreplayer though.
Thanks for the advice. £20.00 is pretty steep. I don't think I would pay it. Are there any free versions of this software?
I remember converting media files for my Ipod once and gave up after 30 mins of converting a heroes episode hadnt finished the conversion. I'll give it another go on here though.
I'll try downloading the divx mobile.
Hey i'm absolutly new on this forum, just got my htc touch hd and i really like it. yes i was really frustated that it didn't play avi or mpg files, therefore i started downloading mp4 files when i came across this wonerful site, these files will play on your htc touch hd, the site is
http://www.vietfiles.org/phim-ma-downloads/40603-mu-high-quality-psp-movies-tv-shows-mp4-format.html
althought it's on megaupload which is annoying downloading one by one

It's up to you to decide whether £20 are too much. Anyway it does the job and does it quite nicely.
If not, you can try TCPMP - it's free, just google it up. I haven't tried it, though.
Do you need a membership to download films at vietfiles? i clicked on the film links and then there is no download icon on the next screen.
I've downloaded divx mobile. Extracted the files using WinRar and then dragged the two files, setupPocketPC and Divx Player onto my phone.
Neither of the two files will open on my phone. The setup one says its not a valid pocket pc application. The divx one says there is no application associated with the divx player it tells me to run the first file first then this one within it.
I then tried opening the file on my PC but it asked for Microsoft Active sync, however I can't upload active sync onto my computer because I'm running the dreaded Vista.
Help guys, anyone else faced this problem?

Vista is not to blame here. Active Sync is now called 'Windows Mobile Device Center'. Download it from Microsoft, install it in Vista, establish a partnership with the device, sync your device.
Then you can run the Divxsetup in Vista, it will call ActiveSync/MBDC and install the CAB file on your device.
I use the built-in HTC album player though. MPEG4-ASP compressed video in an MP4 container is the format that works best. Use the video converter frontend mentioned above.
Cheers

nah when you click on the link it gives you, that should open a new window then in that window it goes to vietfiles then 3 secs later it should automatically redirect you to the megaupload site and download from there
if that doesnt work
try highlighting the link then pasting in your browser

Names of Videos in stock Gallery.

Hi all,
One of the best things of the SGS for me is not having to convert anything. I watch a lot of tv shows with my phone.
There is no way, at least none that I'm aware of, to display the name of the file under the thumbnail, so I'm forced to open a video just to know its name.
Is there a way or an app that would let me display the name of the file before opening it?
That silly feature would make worth paying for a gallery app from where I stand.

Only way to do it is to select the file them click on more and then details. Been looking for a good gallery replacement but havent found one yet.....
I didn't think of that. But it's still faster to open the vids one by one.
You can also create a video shortcut in the homescreen and you'll get to the videos by name. But you won't get them by folders, so it mixes up shows with camera videos.
Or open it with myfiles and go to the folder and open from there. I wonder if you can create a shortcut to a folder on the home screen.
All workarounds.
Why not use the Video Player app that came with the phone?.... show name and thumbnails

Something is downloading commercials

I have the photos & video widget on my homescreen & noticed a paramount logo video there.
Knew I hadn't put any movies on phone recently, clicked on it & low & behold, a trailer for spider man, I quite high definition (I'm guessing my bandwidth has been used to download it).
Just now another video clip appeared.
This time a commercial for Dorito's.
Checked in my gallery & there's a folder titled 'videos' with the above commercials & a couple more for what looks like a video & mobile games.
There must be an app I've installed downloading these videos but I've no idea what.
Anyone else had this?
Using Astro, I found the folder containing the videos.
Folder on SD root titled Tapjoy.
Doing a file search for Tapjoy showed no other entries & no apps that Ive recently downloaded reference Tapjoy either.
Found this somewhere: The files you are seeing are video advertisements provided by Tapjoy. They are cached to your device when you use an app that has Tapjoy integrated into it so that if you choose to view the ads they’ll play automatically rather then making you wait for them to load.
This is easy to turn off and you can opt-out at any time. Please visit our Privacy Policy, scroll to the bottom, and enter in your device ID to opt-out so that you will no longer see Tapjoy ads. You can find our Privacy Policy at:

media player - how to work

ok, i really have the lg optimus L9 from tmobile. but no forum yet for the L9 so here i am. just got the phone and am new to andriod, have ice cream.
just want to play a frickin mp3 and avi files that are on the sd card. if i use file manager and naviagate to avi video, i see a small thumbnail. but when i try to click it i get 'try again after scanning media file'. no idea how to scan media files. navigate to mp3 and click get a choice of google play music or music player. music player gives me again "try again after scanning media files'. now all of a sudden the google media works for my mp3 - no idea why.
guess i am trying to understand how to scan media files. and which program will use the library, google play music or music player. and how can i play video. i am ok with even purchasing a player as i really like to play just about any format without having to convert. what is the player out there that will play the most formats?
thanks
For media searching use the SD Sync app from market. Works well.
where is the best place to go to download apps?
Google Play ofcourse
ok. guess i am trying to figure for now
1) if i copy a media file to my storage card, how can i play it right away, without having to update my whole library. i want to download, point an applicaiton to it an play it.
2) what is the video player that can play the most formats?
1)Open the file with file manager. I prefer the root explorer.
2)LG stock player supports everything, at least no problems even with .mkv packed files.
Oh, you got the L9. Not sure about yours but must be same i think
Also if the file was downloaded from web, you can select/open in directly in the download manager.
Just Figured this out M'Self
OK, just had same issue (same 'system message') trying to watch videos using the built-in Video Player. Maybe it was the first time I used it, but I was actually trying to figure out how to use the new 'Q-Slide' feature to watch a video while doing something else on the phone.
I actually pulled up the manual PDF (downloaded from LG, here), then <CTRL+F> (searched the document for similar system mssgs), and got a 'hit' on Page 49 of the OEM manual (my search, BTW, was 'media files'--'scan for' never found it).
You have to let the system do this for the 'FileShare' app also (I'm sure it's about 'indexing'), so I did, and it worked.
Not so much a 'system error', as a little 'systemic quirk' (much like a cosmic queef)

Video playback issues S4

Okay so I cant get my S4 to playback the videos I've recorded.
It won't pick them up when I go to gallery or videos
The only way I can play them back is if I use a file manager or go into files and find them manually
The videos save by default in DCIM/etc... on my phones memory
The only change I did was delete the .thumbnail folder located in DCIM folder
After that the videos or pictures would not be picked up by the device
To add to this. I copied the videos and pictures in question to my external sd card
Still my s4 was unable to pick them up.
So I transferred the external sd to an old Galaxy s2 from T-Mobile that I have and to my surprise they played fine and where able to berecognized by this phone.
Again the only way I can play back the videos is if i look for them manually using FILE or another file manager.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? Because aswell any video that I download and add to the phone wont playback unless I do the work around mentioned abovei

Re-create the ".thumbnail" folder located in the DCIM folder" even if it's empty.
Then create a short video.
Then with a file manager like root explorer click on the video file you just created and
it should ask you what you want to open it with, click on the video app you want to use
as "default" for video files and be sure to click "Always".
Good luck!
hi , I have a similar issue, any videos ive recorder or saved from snapchat etc, whenever I try and view them , a black screen comes up and it says cannot play video. to view them I have to upload them onto my laptop, other than that I have no idea on what to do. thanks
