Names of Videos in stock Gallery. - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

Hi all,
One of the best things of the SGS for me is not having to convert anything. I watch a lot of tv shows with my phone.
There is no way, at least none that I'm aware of, to display the name of the file under the thumbnail, so I'm forced to open a video just to know its name.
Is there a way or an app that would let me display the name of the file before opening it?
That silly feature would make worth paying for a gallery app from where I stand.

Only way to do it is to select the file them click on more and then details. Been looking for a good gallery replacement but havent found one yet.....

I didn't think of that. But it's still faster to open the vids one by one.
You can also create a video shortcut in the homescreen and you'll get to the videos by name. But you won't get them by folders, so it mixes up shows with camera videos.
Or open it with myfiles and go to the folder and open from there. I wonder if you can create a shortcut to a folder on the home screen.
All workarounds.

Why not use the Video Player app that came with the phone?.... show name and thumbnails

Phone Music/Photos

For some reason recently my phone refuses to show all of my phones music and Photo files if i were to go into Music Player or Gallery. Only a small percentage of them actually show but if i were to use a File browser(SGS2's default file viewer) i can actually see them.

This happened to me last night, couldn't figure out for the life of me what happened. Ended up doing a full system wipe/reset (after backing up to my comp of course) and all is good now...it was strange though.

[Q] 4.2: Gallery not respecting .nomedia files?

I have a chat app on my device that can save received photos locally. The photos are stored in /sdcard/(appname)/images. I prefer that those images do not show up in Gallery, so I placed a .nomedia file in /sdcard/(appname)/ and also in the images subdirectory.
However I noticed after the upgrade to 4.2, when I saved a photo from chat, an "images" album appeared in Gallery with just that one photo in it (and not the others in the directory). I long pressed and chose Details to verify, and indeed it's a photo in the images directory that has a .nomedia file (the exact path it lists is /storage/emulated/0/(appname)/images)
I tried forcing a few media rescans. It's sticking around. Something I tried yesterday resulted in one of said images getting hidden again from Gallery but I can't seem to reproduce that with a newer image.
Has anyone else experienced this? It seems that perhaps the chat app explicitly published the photo to the media database, and in <4.2 the .nomedia file prevented it from staying there, but in 4.2 it appears.
Nobody just gets respect, first the .nomedia files have to earn respect. jk
QuickPic will let you hide the folders w/o using .nomedia files.
It would appear that QuickPic's feature to hide photos from Gallery uses .nomedia files as well. And I don't want to be using a 3rd party gallery.

I believe there are two ways to do it within the app - HIDE & EXCLUDE. One of these does not use .nomedia i believe.
The reason is because I use PowerAmp and it downloads album art, but I dont want that showing in mt gallery.. Quickpic hides the folders so I dont see them, and because PowerAmp still uses the album art, I dont think it's placing .nomedia files.

Hide uses a .nomedia file to hide it from all galleries. Exclude means QuickPic won't show it but has no effect on other apps.
Anyway it seems that renaming the photo and rescanning does the job. Once it finds the old photo path is dead, it doesn't re-add the new path.

Okay good deal.:good: Yeah I knew the "exclude" feature doesn't work in other apps, there are allot of people that like QuickPic better than the stock gallery, thought it was worth a try you might too. It works perfect for me just for the hiding folders w/o using .nomedia.

Highlights and Htc share

So I like highlights and all but it's a bit confusing to navigate through all the required options.....for now I'm wondering what is the purpose of the highlight button? All it seems to do is add it to a new album folder called highlights but it does not actually make a video highlight.....
And when installing NOS Rom I think I removed something important for HTC share because I can't login or use HTC share at all. Any idea what apk id have to reflash ? Thanks .

Highlights is a highlight of photos from an event or such grouped into a small video... It works just fine for me... You have to save it after editing or viewing the highlight.

No those are the 30 second "highlight videos", which also work well for me. I'm tallking about when you go into your camera shots, view a photo, tap for more details, there's option to share delete and also "highlight" and star it. When I do this it does not make a highlight reel but only makes an album in my gallery for highlighted shots almost like starred or favorites (not the 30 second highlight video)

Looks like it just creates another folder with anything you highlight. May just be that...a way to look through all of your photos and pick which ones you like. Then they get organized so you can easily see just them
Actually a good idea. I use the HTC device to quickly shows stuff on the tv screen at work. I take a lot of picts for meetings and this would allow me to quickly pick ones I just want to show then. Not have to flick through them all during the meeting.
** By the way...the Media Link HD is something they did very well. By far the most reliable, quickest and easiest device to quickly show videos, pictures, Music, your screen (quickly show web pages live etc) that anyone has made. We also have Apple TV and Samsung media devices at work. This one just dominates them. And it is sooo portable. I bring it on the road so watch movies in the rooms.

Makes sense I suppose. Also very cool with media link...
Question: when you save/export the auto generated 30 second video highlights it is saved as a video file. Why on earth can you not upload this to HTC share? It says video is not supported .....

where can I get the full res version of this picture?

I'm looking for a full resolution version of this artwork. Its LG's default album cover when none is specified, and its also the lockscreen when you're playing music. Its awesome, and I want it in full resolution to use as a legit wallpaper. Thanks!

!!! thanks, but can you upload it on flickr? Oftentimes, attaching pics on this site shrinks/degrades the pix enough pixels to make a big difference in image quality.
also, i just tried looking in the system dump. If you can't put the full thing on flickr, can you tell me the file path? Thanks
I don't have a flicker account so I uploaded it to
http://www3.zippyshare.com/v/lPaJkuZr/file.html
As for path, in system/priv-app/lgmusic/lgmusic.apk
I choose to view instead of install using root explorer and go to
Res/drawable-xxxhdpi-v4/ and extract albumart_mp_unknown.png

HDR10+ videos conversion in Gallery app

Hi all,
I've been using my Galaxy Note 10+ 5G model shooting 4K HDR10+ videos and using the Gallery app to share them (or use the Instagram button to upload) and it converts it (though it says it is "compressing video") to standard SDR (so that people won't see a washed our HDR video on their non-HDR screens). So far, it's been good and works fine.
However, today I hit upon a problem where I was waiting for a video to convert/compress and it got stuck, so I cancelled it and tried it again and now the video won't share to Instagram properly, it says the file is not supported. I tried sharing the same file onto my cloud and downloading it onto my PC from there and the video is corrupted, so from what I can see is the SDR converted video file outputted by the gallery/video player app got corrupted during conversion and is useless as a converted video, but the original HDR10+ video in gallery is still fine and I can watch it in the Gallery app, but I can't RE-convert it as the gallery/video player app thinks it is already converted and if I try to share it, it just shares it fine without trying to convert it (again, as it thinks it has already converted it).
I double checked the original video file by downloading it onto my PC and since my monitor is not a HDR monitor, the video plays all washed out, showing that the video is still indeed a HDR10+ file.
I think my main question then is: where are these converted SDR videos actually stored on the phone? If the gallery/video app is converting these video files to SDR to be shared, are they stored somewhere? Or is it some kind of look-up table applied to the video file by the Gallery/Video player app and then shared out (but the original is still untouched as a file)?
I even tried clearing my cache in all the apps to see if it will re-convert the video but nope, as far the app is concerned, the video has already been converted.
Try converting another vid. May be just that one is mistagged. Clear data too if clearing cache doesn't get it done and my favorite cure; try clearing the system cache.

Other videos are fine, it was just that one video! I tried clearing cache, didn't work, so I'll try to clear data on the Gallery and video player app. If that doesn't work then I'll try clearing the system cache.
So no one knows where these converted files are stored or whether it is just some kind of lookup table applied to the file to convert to SDR? Surely if I am converting hundreds of videos, it should be taking up space on the phone's storage?!
Ah! I cleared the Gallery app's data (because clearing cache didn't work) and it reset the Gallery app and now I can convert that video file again and it works now! So the metadata or converted data is stored by the Gallery app somehow...

Yah. I was fearing it was the maybe video's metadata that was screwed up...
I really don't know how people who don't play with their Androids get by.
It's unnerving how easily Androids sometimes seem to pick up bad habits out of the blue. A lot of bugware out there.
Usually it's a simple fix if you play with it for a bit.
I loathe the "techies" who always fall back on the hard reset option in a blink of an eye rather than actually trying to find the issue.
I've had a lot of trouble with photo gallery apps since migrating to the Note 10+, you're not alone.
I don't use Samsung's... the native one worked so much better on my stupid S4+.
Progress? MS style maybe... I had to replace many of the Samsung apps that use to work fine on the S4+ with 3rd party ones to get the functionality I needed.
One of Samsung's subtle failings.

I know what you mean! I'm always fiddling around with my phone's settings. This feature of converting HDR to SDR videos bugged me for a while as I never knew how exactly it did it (coming from a PC video editing world, files obviously need to be stored somewhere and outputted somewhere if they are being converted) so it seems like the converted files are somehow stored inside the Gallery app, which is a bit strange but it would explain why once a video has been converted, it never needs converting again if you share it more than once (unless you clear the data like I just did now!). But I've had this phone since August 2019 and this is the first time the conversion messed up somehow...
I never liked the default Samsung gallery apps before, this is the first time I actually use it because I actually find the Gallery app on the Note 10+ to be half decent as it integrates with the video player, the conversion etc... and also the pics and videos actually look kind of decent in this app vs past apps, but in the past, on my S3 and Note 4, I've always used QuickPic as my gallery app (until they got bought out and went downhill from there). The only thing I miss on this default Gallery app is when you're scrolling through a lot of images and videos, on other apps if you hold the scrolling sidebar and scroll, it will bring up the date of the file so you know how far back you are scrolling (sometimes I need to go back to last year or even further back depending on the folder of pics I'm looking at) but the Samsung Gallery app doesn't highlight the date so you just have to find the file without help...
I use DV Gallery a lot. No ads.
Like the options it has for files it shows and more importantly ones it doesn't. Scanner images aren't what I want to see in my photo browser.
My biggest issue is with imported pic folders I loss the picture order. It's maddening. I have thousands of images with no easy way to restore them in date taken sequential order.
My PC based Canon apps can probably do it, maybe... stupid Android!!!

Ah yeah, frustrating! I know QuickPic used to be able to "fix" the date (although sometimes temporarily) and sort it in date taken sequential order. Doesn't the default Gallery app sort by date taken order? There's never one perfect app that covers all needs! I feel your pain.
