I have 5.0.2 currently with Ping Pong. I know there is no xposed without tripping knox (which doesn't matter to me). Is it worth upgrading to 5.1.1 and rooting and twrp? Any changes to performance or responsiveness?

Unless you want samsung pay there really isn't a reason to upgrade. I think when marshmallow comes than you should upgrade.

I have found it does work a bit faster and slightly better battery life in the new version. But nothing substantial. Probably best to hold of till marshmallow. Plus if you upgrade and root again, Samsung pay still won't work. And won't work period if Knox is tripped. Even after unrooting.
There is ENG bootloader for 5.1.1 that disables Knox and you can flash away. I'm using auto root simple kernel with DN5 ROM on my t mobile S6 Edge. Just wish someone would help me unlock it. Knox is still at 0.
5.1.1 DN5 S6 EDGE 32GB on wife's old phone. Has a few of my mods for better battery life.

Hey guys! I've been rooting and flashing phones for a while now, however this is going to be my first Samsung device and it seems like the rooting proccess is different. Just ordered one off of eBay and it's coming in some time next week.
I've been searching and reading countless threads on how to root and flash the S6 Edge, but still wanted to know all the do's and don't's when flashing the phone.
First thing I want to do is obviously root the phone when I get it. I don't know which s/w version it will come with, so what will be the easiest method to root the phone?
From what I've read, flashing a custom recovery such as TWRP will trip KNOX. Besides that, what else can trip it?
Also, it looks like flashing a custom kernel is required to root the phone. On the LG G3, for example, I could just flash a SuperSU zip from recovery to root the phone. Does it not work like that with this phone?
Thank you for your help.
Lastest 5.1.1 requires custom kernel to root. If the phone comes with 5.0.2, imo, do not upgrade, use ping pong root (google it) to keep warranty.

Seconded. From what I understand, there's no way to root and keep KNOX untripped and have your fingerprnt scanner work on 5.1.1. You either have a tripped KNOX or a broken fingerprint scanner. If you're on 5.1.1 and dont care about KNOX (I don't) I recommend UniKernel to root. I've found it helps a lot with battery life, especially when paired with XstreStoLite ROM.
Samsung Pay will be broken too.
I have UniBase on my Rooted S6 Edge. I have had no improvements on battery. I have to charge it atleast twice a day. Which is okay, But rather annoying when in the middle of a conversation and have to either charge it or it dies.

Try XstreStoLite 2.4. It comes with UniKernel v9 and that combo has done wonders for my standby battery life. Under use, the battery life is about the same, but standby has increaded drastically.
Don't root until you're sure you won't need Samsung's repair service.
Use it a lot and stress it to the limits with hardcore games to find out if your S6e gets the blocky screen disorder or 8bit graphics corruption problem. Mine goes 8bit when it's cold outside or when games heat up the SoC so it's going in for repairs.

I'm rooted, but I would love to know if this actually fixes battery life. I would unroot for that.
It's probably one of those security updates.
Update
I received the update as well as an update for Samsung Pay. It includes patches for the 2nd round of Stagefright vulnerabilities.. If you download the stagefright detector app from the Google Play Store and run it, it now informs you that your device is no longer vulnerable to any of the known versions of Stagefright. Before this update only the first round of Stagefright vulnerabilities were patched by the July update. As for the battery life optimization listed in the update's documentation, I guess we won't know until we use our phones for a few days. Hope this answers some of your questions.

Forgive my ignorance on the subject but I have a few quick questions if anyone would be so kind as to indulge me with answers:
1. Is KNOX only tripped when a custom ROM is flashed or does the act of simply acquiring root permission trip it as well?
2. If KNOX is tripped does that simply void the warranty or does it hard-brick the phone as well?
I am fine without a custom ROM I just want root access to remove bloatware and customize features using Wanam Xposed. I loved everything I could do with that on my S3 and I am already bored with the look of my S6 even though I have only had it for about 5 hours now.

I had horrible battery life with my Bluetooth enabled.
Tried everything, the only way to return good battery life was to disable Bluetooth (which sucked with my Gear 2). OI1 fixed the Bluetooth battery drain.
Not sure battery is so poor , im kind of sick of this, for a flagship it should be better than this

Knox is tripped when you flash a custom kernel or a custom recovery, to gain root access you usaully install a custom kernel with root access and then some people install a custom recovery to have the ability to flash custom roms. Some people have been able to unpack and repack the original stock rom for their device and then flash with Odin and not trip Knox, as long as your leave the boot.img and recovery.img intact and keep all the partitions their original size they were successful, this I am going to attempt soon, I too want to do a few edits to the CSC in the cache.img and try and remove some bloat in the system.img and repack and flash to keep my phone stock and unrooted and without bloat and to NOT trip knox.
if Knox is tripped Samsung can void the 1 year service warranty on your device, the knox counter keeps track if the phone has been altered by flashing custom kernels and recoveries, this makes the phone vurnerable to attacks by malicious apps and or users because having root access gives any user and apps permission to anything in the system files. I have tripped knox on many devices and have returned them bricked and never had a problem with Sprint and they replaced my phone, now sending it to Samsung directly I can not answer that but I have read on here in the forums a few have had their phones repaired after Knox being tripped but never ever heard of tripping knox bricking a phone, to brick a phone you have had to flash the wrong firmware and such things alike.
Tripping knox has a few drawbacks as some apps and features will not work, like Private Mode, or Samsung Pay and many more because Knox can not secure your Data anymore since you rooted your phone. So think of Knox as it looks at root, its like you leaving the front door on your house opened all day while your away at work. Knox has a purpose some people don't care about it and some do like me, I like private mode feature. Some root methods have bypassed the security checks by Knox but they keep fixing the vulnerabilities and making it harder and harder to not trip knox, so either you root and trip it or not to root and try other means to make your phone yours.
Any known method?

Towelroot was what I used before to root my mondrianlte (SM-T325: Tab Pro 8.4 LTE). Safely without tripping the Knox flag (e.g. Warranty Flag).
Truth be told ya may as well just install full on CM13, since Samsung has since gone on record stating that no Tab Pro beyound the 12.2 w/3GB's would ever get an update to Lollipop, much less Marshmallow.
And, if you still need, or ever plan on using Knox. Then you're better off just staying stock.

Just install TWRP and flash SuperSU.
So there is noway to do this without tripping knox?
bump!
No.
Let me add on a bit to my initial response. Rooting the phone will trip Knox. Has been this way for quite some time. Discussed across many thread here and elsewhere.
Now the question comes up as to what do you lose by tripping Knox? Samsung Pay will never work for you. Android Pay may or may not work. Many people have been able to get it working at least in part, but disable Root (via SuperSu) when using Android Pay. I don't use either of those, so I don't care.
Then the question comes up if this voids warranty. The answer is only if you say "Hey, I rooted my phone and then broke something!" If you need warranty for a physical defect, go back to stock via Odin and you shouldn't have a problem. If you root your phone and then install a ROM not meant for your phone or local (like a Note ROM or an international ROM) you are probably going to mess something up that will be immediately obvious. The solution is not to do that.
Realistically, there aren't a ton of great ROMs available for this phone and most are based on stock anyway. No CM13 as yet. If you can live with your phone un-Rooted, that might be the wisest choice.
That said, I rooted my phone as soon as I got it. I went the full route, didn't care about tripping Knox and still don't. I have run both Renegade and TeamSPR ROMs and have been happy with them.
Now you can decide what to do.
Or u could root ur phone n install xposed on it ... Rooted S6 stock rom is now compatible with xposed its better than any custom roms out there

In my case, I only need temporary root. After that it maybe removed. So it would be nice to be able keep knox from being tripped if possible. Installing twrp is an additional step too that I would like to avoid again because it would serve no purpose since root would only be temporary. I also wanted to be sure that build G920PVPU3CPD3 could be rooted. Thanks for your input guys.
I mistakenly updated my note 4 to marshmallow when asked to by the OTA update window. Do I have any options for root? Verizon note 4 marshmallow build is PD1.
PS: I'd like to keep Knox intact as I use the myknox app for work purposes.
PSS: I'm fine with a temp root as long as it's mostly stable.
Thank you
Rooting will trip Knox. No, there's no "temporary root" that is remotely stable. You may be able to roll back to 5.1.1 via ODIN but it's not surefire. And yes, the OTA relocks the bootloader. I would not think anyone would expend effort to unlock it at this point.
