whats up xda I use to get excellent battery life but about 2 weeks ago phone started dying after about 7 hours of use. I checked the battery usage and noticed that the screen was using a lot of battery and on the status the up time is a 100% it seems like it doesn't go to sleep anymore there is no delay from the press of the power button. please help and thanks on advance
Get an app called better battery stats and it will show which apps are causing wake locks (phone not sleeping). As far as display turn the brightness all the way down and it saves battery.
EDIT** here is a download to the app. http://db.tt/j3cJNHra

It is definitely a "dirty" little app holding your phone captive with a wakelock. Find it and kill it the app mentioned above does work.

Thanks guys for that app, it says facebook and the stock music is wake lock. Deleted facebook and ill see if that works if not ill just have to root and delete the stock music. As for the brightness of the screen should i just set it all the way down or set it on automatic?
I've had CM7 on my t989 since the day after alpha 2 came out, and I've never had any serious issues I haven't been able to solve.
I've been trying to track down what's causeing my phone to stay awake, and I can't figure it out at all. In the android battery usage, it shows that my phone is almost always awake when it's sitting in my pocket with nothing running, even after a fresh reboot. No relevant application shows up in either the 'partial wake usage' list or the main android battery usage list.
Is there a way to get more accurate information about partial wake usage or per application usage then I'm aware of? I'm currently using Battery Monitor Widget to figure this stuff out.
I could be an application I have installed that is causing it, but how would it be ducking the android battery usage monitor AND the partial wake usage list?
Anyone else experience something like this?
If you go to Settings, About phone, Battery Usage, what are the top apps?

Try Better Battery Stats. It has really helped me increase my phone's deep sleep.

There are apps there, but they aren't the ones that are draining my battery, considering none of them are the ones keeping my phone awake while the screen is off and it's idle.
There is battery usage going on that isn't listed on the battery usage page, which is why I made the thread.

I've used better battery stats, it exposed the same information that battery monitor widget does, just in a much less user friendly way.
What ever is keeping the wake lock, my phone isn't tracking it, making me think it's something in the OS, not an app I have installed.
I'm willing to bet its something with calls/proximity sensors. Is Android system 2nd on battery usage behind display?

Yeah, android system is almost always second, is there anything I can do to help that besides switch back to a samsung rom?
Is this happening with other people on CM7 alpha with this phone?

It happens on a bunch of phones with cm7. Not just this one. There's really nothing you can do about it. Are you getting that bad of battery life?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Yeah, the battery life is really bad sometimes, but other times it's fine.
So no one knows the cause? It just happens? I'm confident CM9 will fix it, mostly because they have the ground up reword the ROM to make it work.

The times its good is when you don't make many calls? Or your calls or later in the day? What happens is after you make a call there is a partial wake lock triggered by the proximity sensor. Pay attention to that.

Hi guys I have found a solution to the lag at the lockscreen!
Please download the following app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl
App Name- Wake Lock Manager
Steps:
1. Install the above app and open it.
2. Click on PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK.
3. The above numbers should go to 4.
4. Now go into options (by pressing the menu button)
5. Check the following boxes:
Autostart On boot
Notifications
6. Close the app and enjoy!
You may go in app manager and untick "show notifications" if you find the app notifications annoying or unnecessary.
I have tried this on 5 phones and it works perfectly. It does not affect the phone otherwise and it also does not use extra battery(I have tested it).
Questions are always welcomed!
Here is my link to the youtube video for the same:

Thank you.

Anytime!
thnks a lot
Surely it works, but this isn't a good solution.
Selecting number 4 in that app means that your phone will be "forced" in a partial wake lock state.
In other words when the screen goes off, the cpu it's still running and will never go to deep sleep (normal standby state).
If you use your phone a lot, this will affect battery life only a bit.
However if with a single charge your phone usually last 1-2 days, forcing a partial wake lock will affect a lot battery life.
Battery will discharge also when you are not using your phone... because cpu will be always on (partial wake lock).
So.. this is a "solution", but not a good solution.
Thanks for sharing this tips, but be aware.. if you use this app your phone's cpu will never go to deep sleep.

Hi FSRider,
I know what you are trying to say and I had the same doubts earlier. So I tested it for a week.
What i did was,
First I didnt use phone much(only calling and msging) for a day and then did the same thing using the app running. I found that the difference in consumption was very less. In first case 30% was consumed and in the 2nd case 33% was consumed.
Secondly, I played some heavy games for 1 and half our and without the app the consumption was 28% and with the app it was 31%.
Thirdly, I just didnt touch my phone for 5 hours. Without the app the consumption was 1% or less and beleive me with the app too it was 1%.
Cheers!

I have installed the latest build but still the lockscreen lag is present. I guess currently the above given method is the only method to remove that lag.
last few days i have a ridiculous battery drain from androidos - this is new
no new programs installed
on 7.1.1 stock
anyone else have similar experience>?
Doesn't seem to matter what version you're on or what phone. If it has android Google will eventually target you for some data/battery drain. Mine went from 100% to 59% over night doing nothing - this is on a Nexus 6 runniong 6.0.1. I usually only drop 3%-10% at night, but every once in a while i get hit with the google tax.
There is a lot of news around about a bad update sent out by Facebook and Facebook Messenger that are causing battery drain issues. If you use these apps you may want to uninstall, restart and then reinstall to clear out the issue.

Facebook Messenger destroyed my battery yesterday. I opened the app twice and it caused 20%+ battery drain between charges. Guess that really shouldn't be a surprise given the developer...

To my knowledge, there's really no way to troubleshoot wakelocks without root and Wakelock Detector. I used it and was able to identify nlpcollectorwakelock as my biggest problem. Other smaller ones were identified as well. This was all because my device was awake 100% of the time and Google Play Services were eating majority of the battery. I don't know specifically about the drain on androidOS, but the first step I would take would be root + Wakelock Detector.

Are you on the January security update? I've read a few posts about androidOS battery drain and they seem to all be on the Jan update. I'm still on the Dec. update. Maybe over the weekend, I'll update and see if I can replicate your issue and find what's causing the drain since I will be rooted

i am... not sure when it was installed though
Hello everyone,
initially I had great battery life on my P6P. I then later started to root, add a 2nd SIM card and installed more and more apps (the same ones I already had on my P4 XL).
I can't really say when deep sleep stopped working, but it does not work at the moment.
I am at the stock ROM and Kernel atm, but rooted.
Usually I would start BBS and figure out which wakelock is preventing me from going to deep sleep.
However, BBS doesn't seem to work on Android 12. So I tries GSAM Battery Monitor.
Attached are screenshots from 2 days with GSM Battery Monitor.
It can be seen that the device does not go to deep sleep at all.
The only way to get it into deep sleep atm, is to enable battery saver.
This causes a huge battery drain over a whole day.
This post will contain the screenshots from day #1.
The next post will contain the screenshots from day #2.
Can anyone tell me how to figure out which wakelock / which app / feature / whatever is preventing my phone from going into deep sleep?
Thanks in advance!
And this is day #2 with more detailed screenshots.
@Lughnasadh @RetroTech07 Maybe you can help me here? :S
Thanks!
I also just "Force stopped" pretty much everything under Settings -> All apps (user apps and the few system/google apps that are in the user apps list).
Still no deep sleep

BBS works.. sometimes. You need to stick with it and get the alarms tab to show stats. That should tell you what is keeping it awake. Kernel wakelocks are useless imo. Partial wakelocks and alarms and even network usage perhaps. I have it working but it's sketchy.
Finding a needle in a haystack.
Factory reset and don't restore backup.

So you basically install it, grant it root, and then wait until somehow magically starts to show stats?

Haha, no I don't have root. I just grant the permissions via adb. But "magically" is the key word actually. Here are a few screenshots from just now. The first 2 are pretty usual for a few of the stats but that changes. The second 2 are what I can sometimes get although that varies as well. Every other stat on the app is like the first two, not stats collected. That's what I mean by you have to stick with it. It will magically show randomly. lol Unfortunately, this round didn't show partial wakelocks which means a bunch to me. Tomorrow morning it will show.
Thanks.. I just flashed kirisakura kernel from @Freak07 since I believe that it also block some wakelocks which are enabled on stock kernel. Will try that tomorrow together with AccuBattery.
If that doesn't work, then I will try to get magic by BBS.

If your issue is caused by an app or service (which it sounds like it probably is) constantly running in the background flashing the kernel won't help at all.
Your best bet might be BBS, battery historian (you can take a bug report and then view it there, just google it) or maybe top command.

Flashing a kernel can't fix issues with apps or services getting stuck in the background.
I guess it was the reboot that helped in the end or whatever was stuck got updated or unstuck some other way.

Hmm really weird. My deep sleep is now also slowly dropping (only at 50% now).
But will see how it ends up after a working day.
I did try reboots before already. It didn't help.
But maybe so far I was working with a mix of several wakelocks which I can now narrow down.
Will try battery historian as recommend by you. Just need to find a decent guide for it first
