Hardwire kits customer feedback thread - General Accessories

I've had a mini 0806 hardwire kits (like one of these: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sop=15&_nkw=mini+0806+hardwire) powering my dashcam for a while and was quite happy with it, so I decided to get the same one for my phone mount/Qi charger and while it supplies enough amperage to light a small LED on the charger it's not enough to actually charge the phone (and the charger works just fine with alternative power supply methods including the built in USB outlet and the cigarette lighter adaptors).
So I figure it's something in the converter that my Qi charger doesn't like and I'm after a better one.
Aliexpress has a variety of the converters starting from a little over $3 for a dual USB type which would be future-proof as I'd only need to replace the cable if I'll need to switch to a type-c in the future, namely Fulree and CPT-branded boxes: http://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesa...Country=CA&needQuery=n&isRtl=yes&isFreeShip=y -- scroll down half-way thru the page.
Anyone has experience with either of those? I was thinking of ordering both and testing them out, however it's PITA for me to have them connected so I'd rather install one based on another user's feedback.
Can you guys recommend either option over the other?
Thanks!

USB Cable / Car Charger / Wall Charger combo

Hey guys,
Looking for a combo micro-usb wire that also comes with a dual car/wall charger. I dont care if its two pieces or three pieces, but I just care that I can keep the Captivate plugged in and not have any issues using it. The last one I bought was a Duracell three way usb combo that had a retractable wall charger on the travel charger piece, but it wasnt giving enough power to the phone, so i couldnt use it while plugged in.
I have been looking at the "Premium USB power kit" by A Days Tech on Amazon, but im worried its going to be a generic POS and not give enough juice.
Anybody know which of these works?
I guess I can also buy a high quality micro-usb wire and then a high quality USB car charger/wall plug seperately as another option. So any opinions on those are also appreciated.

There are a bunch of threads on charging these phones. Unless the charger or the cable has the data lines shorted, the phone will only charge at USB rate (~500mA). Even if you have a 1A car charger, the best you will get is USB speed UNLESS you connect the data lines on the cable. I have not seen a car charger that does this.
The most current the phone will draw is around ~750 mA. It will do this when it thinks it is attached to AC.
Hi,
I bought the Scosche HC12V Dual Home Charger, but I haven't received it yet, but from what little I know of the brand they supposedly make good accessories. I should receive it in a few weeks (shipping a captivate and accessories overseas).
Both outputs are rated at 1amp, the only thing is that it does not come with it's own cable.

I bought a car charger and separate car-to-wall converter from Monoprice. Total for both items about $5. Maybe it only charges at 500 mA but seems fine to me.

Captivate Wall Charger?

Does anyone know of a wall charger that I can get from Amazon.com? I think I might have found one, but I want to make sure it works first. It only has one review, and it says it makes the screen stop functioning while charging.

Has anyone purchase this or another one? If so, I would greatly appreciate it if you could link me to it.
Thanks.
I won't comment on the product you posted since I have no experience with it and don't want to give you any false info.
I use this charger with my Captivate:
http://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Or..._1_1?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1287110435&sr=1-1
It's a Blackberry wall charger without a detachable USB cable. You will have to slightly trim a little plastic off of the MicroUSB plug shoulder, but that takes all of 10 seconds and is going to be somewhat common with most MicroUSB plugs aside from the one you got with your phone. When my phone is plugged into the Blackberry wall charger, it is fully functional and screen is usable, for what it's worth...
I use a bunch of different chargers with my Captivate. I have the Blackberry one at home, I have a Monoprice charger combo at work, a Logitech MicroUSB charger for their mice that will also work with my phone, and random off-brand car chargers purchased at Fry's. All the above will charge my phone without ill effect. I'm sure whatever you buy will work...

Compatible 2A USB cable for Wireless charger

Hi,
I brought the nexus wireless charger so I could use it in my car as a car charger alongside my infiniapps holder. I have everything mounted ok but I cant seem to find a cable that will allow me to connect to the charger without the dreaded red light.
I brought the portapow one from amazon which was meant to allow high amperage, but after needing to hack it so the plug would go into the charger (silly design) it still didnt work - so now I have a £5 dud cable lying around.
The difficulty is that the original cable is not long enough - my belkin charger for the cigarette lighter is ok - and Id rather not have to wire in another cigarette lighter behind the dash - so any 2 meter confirmed working cables that can be shipped to the UK out there?
Thanks!
Two meters? That's a heck of a length of cable - are you sure you really need that much?
I've had good luck with the Monoprice USB cables. The "28/24 AWG" ones supposedly have the thicker (24 AWG) wires for the power than the usual cables on the market. I have several of the 6' (~2m) ones that I use at my desk when doing dev work. They aren't floppy like the cheap cables, so I don't generally use them in the car or other places where strain on the USB connector could be an issue.
Their International page suggest that they are available through Amazon UK.

Looking for a couple of must have accessories...

First generic ones that can be applied to any phone:
1: USB charging cable. The OPO's stock cable is WAY too short for me so Im currently look for a additional one. My old HTC charger don't seem to charge as quick.
2: Car charger and charging cable. I would use the same cable (buy it twice) and I need a car charger. It needs to be able to feed the OnePlus One while in GPS mode
Now onto OnePlus One accessories:
1: GPS window car mount. There are a lot out there. Im looking for one that is easy to add and remove to the window, sturdy and I can put the phone in and out quickly. Must be compatible in both portrait and landscape and obviously it must be compatible with the car charger above so I can charge and GPS.

For the car charger i suggest this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Belkin-...876?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19e62c23fc
it's more than perfect for 7 euros and it has good quality also
a solution for car mount is this http://www.ebay.com/itm/361209224197?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT it doesn't apply on the window but i find it more convenient
For a 10' cable, I bought this (purple, yes), comes in many colors: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JZHE3N4
Works really well for charging. Was recommended by someone else on the boards.
In the car I'm using this: http://www.scosche.com/usb-car-charger-dual-port with a stock cable.
Monoprice makes great cables, too, if you need one bigger.

Rip off of the centry?!?!
On eBay Its at 23.11 EUR and I still feel like it is a ripoff.
At this price, I would only buy one.
Alternatives?
StarTech.com sells one for about 11 euros...
The two things that most worry me are the cable and the dock. The charger is pretty much decided as I looked at revolt as well...
Still looking for car dock and cables...
I need a car mount, but I cannot stand how hideous they all look! Why can't we have a very clean car mount like the one that's built for the HTC HD2 or the Galaxy Nexus. See these pictures. This is what a car mount should look like. Nice and sleek!

USB Charging with newer devices

Short version: what is the best way to charge a newer device from a USB port that only outputs 0.5a?
Long version:
Been out today in my new car and tried charging my phone from the built in usb... didn't do anything. Makes the charging noise on the phone but no charge.
Obviously I'm guessing it must be only outputting at 0.5a which is very low for today's devices... what can I do? Is there any way to bump up a 0.5a to higher easily (appreciate this might vary by a billion factors, but guess the USB is coming off the car's 12v rails somewhere along the line...)
Another thought that came to me was putting a battery pack that charges slower in the middle, but i don't know if this will work given that i'll probably be drawing more than i'll be getting in to it... and can they even charge as they are outputting?
Any thoughts welcome!!
Cheers
Xperia Z5
Silly question, but have you considered buying a separate phone charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter?
If your device supports Qualcomm QC 1/2/3 there are car chargers that support that protocol. If your device only supports 5V charging, there are chargers that put out up to 2.4 Amps.
I'd recommend purchasing one from a well know brand like Anker (I've only ever purchased 1 charger, it seems to work fine and it was this brand) or several phone manufacturers and cell providers sell their own.
If you absolutely MUST be plugged in over USB (for multimedia?) I don't think there really is a good/safe way to "boost" the output of the port in your car. They provide the USB port so that they can check the box on the features list for "Yes we have a USB port". They're doing this at as low of a cost as possible with little regard for how well it works or if it will charge your device well.
That's what I've ended up going for. It's not ideal as the USB is in the way of the gearstick a bit, but it's all I have. If I come up with a better way then I'll let you know!!
