Hello
just recieved my brand new G3, flashed TWRP and CM 12.1. SNAPSHOT... well, after reboot I realized something must went wrong, because i cannot access either Internal Storage or SD card from my computer (Windows).
I only have read rights, but I cannot copy anything to the storage. When I try, it says "Device stopped communicating or has been disconnected"...
What should I do?!?! Someone please help :X I tried fixing permissions from TWRP, but no luck.
EDIT: this was supposed to be posted in Q&A, so please move the thread, thanks.
Hi
Make sure that your device is connected to your PC via USB and it is on MTP mode "transfer mode" and the report back
It is connected as MTP. Same with PTP.
EDIT: in the meantime I flashed GAPPS and now everything works correctly. Not sure where was the problem, sorry I freaked out about it, but everything seems to be working properly now... thanks

While I was running the recovery with my laptop through a dos shell to run a fix for a ROM it started to go a little haywire and start choosing things without me pressing buttons. So, I think it might have chosen the "USB-MS toggle" but the rest worked fine during the wiping and flashing the market fix, but rebooting the phone the sd card was not recognized. Then when i would try and go into recovery since then (even after getting the SD card re-recognized by the phone after downgraded to the PC36IMG) when i go to reboot into recovery I cannot get the recovery mode to start as the device is not connected to my PC.
Further, when I plug my phone into the computer it does not even seem to know it is connected to a computer because it does not bring up the "connect as" box (and yes i have the ask me checked) and does not even seem to charge while phone is on (also tried more than one cable)
Mainly would like to know if there is a way that i can copy the files onto my SDcard directly from my PC (by putting the sd card in an sd card reader) so that I can run the recovery menu on the EVO without the laptop?
Thank you for your help anyone as I am quite stressed and upset at the moment!

sounds like you need to uninstall your htc sync and re install it to get the drivers back
Did that already. Will try again
Might help to post in the questions section not development section?
Sent from my Evo using the xda app.
adbWireless would probably be another solution.. if you have a wifi network at home
Thanks for the input all...actually seemed to have a PC36IMG that I reverted back to which did not have the ability to connect but with the help of one of the ROM developers here (vaelek) I was able to solve the problem and get it up and running again!!!!
Will certainly go to the question section next time Tejas, thanks!

I've had no issues, and really no need, to USB connect for a while, until my partner wanted me to bulk upload a lot of pictures recently taken at a family event. So I plugged the USB into the phone and attached the PC, an option appeared on the phone to connect SD card and I chose media transfer, then nothing. No icon, no options on the PC to browse the SD card. I've checked the official help pages and done a few of the things they ask you to do - shut down the phone, battery pull, unmounted then mount SD, restore system settings - but none of that has worked. I have even un-installed and reinstalled PC Companion, as advised, so the PC could re download the drivers but still nothing. I'm all out of idea so hopefully some of the helpful users on her could offer some advice.
Thanks.

Just going to bump this. Not sure is this is breaking any "rules" but it's been a couple of days. Most forums suggest leaving a thread 24hrs. It's beyond that.

I read in another thread that somebody had a similar problem like you. He had frozen or deleted an app. Can't remember the app name though.

Regards Dousan...
I found that to search the sd card its hest to use 'connect phone sd card mode' because mtp doesnt like sd cards with a lot on for some reason. So to connect it in mtp mode I've given up on answers anf just accept that to connect it I have to unmount my sd card and then it works perfectly. I havn't tried re-mounting the sd card after a successful connect though to be fair so you could try that?

Thanks to both of you. Tried unmounting and then connecting but it fails to install a driver, which is exactly the problem someone in the thread Dousan linked to. An MTP app? or some such. I'm not so techno savvy so im not sure if I would have deleted it in my haste for getting rid of things I don't use. Not sure if having that app would help.
I've been searching since yesterday since and have yet to see this issue. I flashed a ROM yesterday and now I can't copy to SD or internal. I don't even remember which ROM caused it I restored my backup before that happened and still can't copy. I can download a ROM on the phone and install it I just can't copy anything when connected to a PC. I've tried on Win7 and Win8 with no luck. I've formatted SD, tried a different cable, uninstalled/re-installed drivers and USB debugging is selected. I can copy from the phone to the computer but not from computer to phone. The only thing I can think of is flash back to stock and re-root and see if that fixes it.
This is the error I get when attempting to copy
The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected

or you can also try different usb ports and if that doesn't work try running all the same troubleshooting steps on a different pc and see if there's any difference.

Try using the drivers from my signature on your Win7 machine.
Thanks for the suggestions :highfive:
I seem to have fixed it. I used the Samsung Galaxy S3 toolkit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682)
and just did the root option (even though it was rooted already) and after that I was able to copy again There are still a couple of ROM zip files I couldn't copy so I am assuming that the files may be corrupted or something. I haven't been able to re-download them again to test out that theory though.
`Hi all,
it seems the overall connectivity of my phone to my pc is screwed up. First of, I've never got this phone to appear as mass storage in windows explorer. While I was on a JB custom ROM, I ended up using moborobo. ADB and fastboot were working. I switched to Carbon KK ROM and ofc still not able to prompt windows explorer mass storage device. And yeah, I tried severall different packages of drivers, HTC sync crap and what not. I tried moborobo again, it recognizes the device and it's able to scan my phone's contents, but I get errors when I try to upload a file. Also, adb works when booted, but not in recovery so I can't sideload or push files either. so, effectively, I have no way currently to drop files to my phone. I miss removable SD-card
I would love to get this phone to work as a mass storage device again, does anyone has got some ideas? thanks
I flashed CM11 kernel and file management in moborobo is working again. Also fixed wifi and bluetooth. Seems carbon kernel is pretty broken

The easey way is just to disable usb debuging and you will see your sd card as mass storage when you finish enable usb debuging again.
Sorry if this particular incident has already happened to someone else, but I've tried searching for it but haven't had any luck finding the information I needed. I find people with similar problems, but the solution is to do "x" and the problem I have doesn't allow me to do "x" either.
So here's what is wrong with my phone.
I installed cm13 on it about 2 weeks ago, and some updates recently came out (like 3 or 4 days ago) and I decided to install them. After installing those updates I realized my battery was dying super fast, even when my phone is idle for a vast majority of the day. So I decided to reinstall the older version of cm13 that I had saved on my storage. I went into twrp and accidentally deleted everything in my storage and operating system.
This wouldn't be a problem if I my computer would recognize my phone, but it doesnt! So I can't even transfer files from my pc to my phone. Whenever I try to search for a fix, the solution is always the same. "go in to settings and enable developer options". Only problem is, I cant, because I dont have an os.
How can i transfer files onto my phone if my computer wont detect it?

Best way is with sd card , no need for any computer recognition. Copy cm13 to sd card on your computer and put that sd card in your phone. Open twrp , install , external sd ...

sideload the rom to install or copy to the sd card as stated. to side load:
in the recovery mode, enter the ADB sideload menu which for TWRP, you can find it in the advanced → ADB sideload, then copy the zip file you want to install on your device to the ADB folder.
now enter the following command in the command prompt.
adb sideload <filename.zip>
that will sideload the rom to install it note do not unplug the device until the sideload is complete like you would on a normal rom install
And if you can't sideload, that's what's great about removable storage...
