I've been searching since yesterday since and have yet to see this issue. I flashed a ROM yesterday and now I can't copy to SD or internal. I don't even remember which ROM caused it I restored my backup before that happened and still can't copy. I can download a ROM on the phone and install it I just can't copy anything when connected to a PC. I've tried on Win7 and Win8 with no luck. I've formatted SD, tried a different cable, uninstalled/re-installed drivers and USB debugging is selected. I can copy from the phone to the computer but not from computer to phone. The only thing I can think of is flash back to stock and re-root and see if that fixes it.
This is the error I get when attempting to copy
The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected

or you can also try different usb ports and if that doesn't work try running all the same troubleshooting steps on a different pc and see if there's any difference.

Try using the drivers from my signature on your Win7 machine.
Thanks for the suggestions :highfive:
I seem to have fixed it. I used the Samsung Galaxy S3 toolkit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682)
and just did the root option (even though it was rooted already) and after that I was able to copy again There are still a couple of ROM zip files I couldn't copy so I am assuming that the files may be corrupted or something. I haven't been able to re-download them again to test out that theory though.

As the title says; all of a sudden I cannot drag & drop folders from phone to PC. It starts transferring and it either stops without anything moving over or stops after 2-3 folders. Need to make a back-up of CWM & TiBu so I can format everything and do a new, fresh install but, nada..
I had this problem as well. My fix was to turning off and on debugging sometimes helps as well as changing the modes for the USB connection from MTP to PTP and let the drivers install then change back to MTP and finaly keep awake in the dev options on the settings menu.
After all did all that mine hasn't had a problem again yet. I've also herd that you should plug it into a USB port that's not a hub/extra port on the case go for one of the USB ports on the back of your PC that are directly on the mobo.
Good luck.
same my problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1460152
try reboot phone and transfer again
I have the same problem but it is only within clockworkmod folder. Any other folder or file copies with no issues over to my PC. Windows explorer crashes every time i attempt to move one of my nandroids over to my PC. I am rooted with the correct drivers.

Try rebooting the phone a couple of times, did it eventually for me. At least I think that's what it was..
Hey everyone,
I've been having issues with the USB file transfer process with my SGS3.
For example, whenever I want to back up my titanium backup folder and nandroid backups to my computer's hard drive, the transfer would only transfer a few files and not all of the selected at once. I've tried using various methods of copying and still no luck.
I am having trouble backing up my phone to my computer because of this.
I am using the stock USB cable that came with the phone and the latest Samsung USB drivers are installed on said PC.
If anyone else has a similar issue or knows how to fix it so I can start flashing/updating new ROMs more frequently, please let me know.
Otherwise the phone is amazing and I have had experienced no other issues with it thus far.
Thanks!

When you're copying the files, is your phone set to mtp or ptp file transfer mode? (Assuming you're on stock Rom)
Yea I just had a problem with transferring files turned out the stock usb cable is just cheap garbage and another cable fixed me up

I gotta make a thread about this.
You didn't say what OS your PC is or S3 Carrier???. It makes a difference.
Go to Device Manager and tell me if you see Yellow Explamations?
For Win7 and probably Vista, and bell/rogers/At&t, download and reinstall these drivers.
(they are AT&T drivers but trust me...they work perfect for Rogers....and WITHOUT KIES INSTALLED!
BUT...They never quite install smoothly for me....6 PCs now.
So it may say "PROBLEM installing etc." but keep going.
Pull the usb cable out...wait a few seconds.... and re insert.
Check Device manager again.
If you still have problems....manually initiate a Windows Update while the usb is plugged in.
Pull the usb cable out...wait a few seconds.... and re insert.
If you have Xp...let me know. There are different issues.
im having issues copying files and zips from my internal or sd card onto the windows 8 desktop. i assume this is a driver issue as if i use a card reader it doesn't throw out an error. im using the drivers from the toolkit and ive tried the ones from samsungs site. any tips on how to fix this?

I've been using Windows 8 since the first preview, usually without any 3rd party (ie. Samsung Kies, android SDK ) drivers and transfer of files to and from various phones has been flawless. This includes my current phone, the Note II. If it's a driver issue, then it's one of conflicting drivers..., perhaps?
Not sure what to suggest except to remove all drivers and let windows re-recognize and reinstall the phone and see if that works.... Oh, and try another cable (never hurts).
Good luck.
Every time I try to move a file to the phone or sd card, I get the is fine I can read it and the sd card as well.
Any ideas?
error saying the device has stopped working. It

Anyone.....?
have you tried deleting all the old drivers and install new driver?
I odined back to stock. But still nothing. I can delete but not copy or move. .
might not be your phone.....could be the drivers on your computer. Can you use a different computer to see if the problem continues? If it does, its your phone. if it doesn't, its your computer.

cant try till tomorrow at work. . Which drivers do I uninstall and try to reinstall?
First you need to figure out if the problem is the sdcard or the phone. Try using a different sdcard or a different computer.
In regards to drivers, goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682 and download the S3 toolkit.
I attached a program to help uninstall the old drivers for your computer. Install the program and look for Vendor ID "18d1" or..."04e8" and uninstall the drivers.
With the S3 toolkit, you can then install the correct drivers associated to your device.
hope that helps.
It's my laptop. Can copy on another laptop

uninstalled from that program, reinstalled from the tool kit, and still the same problem
It just started working again. Thanks for the help.
your welcome.....:cyclops:
So, I just got my Galaxy S3 and after going to the beginner rooting thread and downloading the root kit and installing the drivers, I had some problems. Now, when I plug my phone into my computer, sometimes it says the hardware ID can't be found, then when i plug it in, it will be found but will take a while to let me explore it then other times it will act as normal. But, when I try to move files around or create new files on my internal or external SD card, it says that it's not there or it's stopped responding even though I can look around in the files.
Try this for the hardware id

I was told not to install KIES because it would interfere with ODIN. Maybe that was just for the purposes or rooting it.

Yes, if you've already rooted it won't be an issue. You can always uninstall it later

Many thanks. I can always count on this community for helping
Okay, so, I installed the latest drivers (couldn't find a download for the old version everyone says works) and have kies. When I look at the driver installation thing, everything says it is good to go except for MTP, which is always says 'looking for preconfigured driver folders....'
Also, I still can't make a new folder on the external SD card and when i try to move files around, it freezes up. It will pop up with an error saying the device has stopped responding or it has been disconnected.
I'm pretty sure I need to make a folder on my external called 'android.secure' so that the nandroid will backup apps. And I need to find out a way that I can backup directly to the external rather than the internal and have to move it to the external.
