Really don't know exactly what it does, but generally you don't include this file when you bundle a rom with flashtool, so no harm.

how do i unlock it? That's the whole point of me posting about this.
After i unlock my bootloader, i face this issue. but flashing finished successfully. Sometime it may be a DRM key related item.
Dont flash that file. its simlock data and if you flash it on a phone with different imei then you will kill the phone without any way other than sony service center to fix it.
Don't worry about that, i always get that warning and there was no problem.

I've read this 'simlock.ta' thread with some interest because I have a similar issue myself.. Might you have any suggestions?
In short, my Xperia (Ray) refuses to read my SIM card. In fact, it doesn't even ask me for my PIN number, it just boots as normal but I have no connection to any network. I've tried using the SIM card in another phone and it works fine, therefore the problem is with the phone itself.
I'd recently had my phone network & bootloader unlocked by wotanserver using the test point method - because of this I thought the DRM keys would be fine (e.g. TrackId & Timescape still worked). However, when I was updating from GB .42 to .62 OTA (to flash a GB ROM) my phone bricked! So, I ended up using s1tool to restore the locked bootloader. Then I used flashtool to flash a stock ICS ftf file. It seemed to work (the phone rebooted) but it was then I noticed that the SIM card wasn't being recognised. Also, in the Flashtool log I noticed that a blue line was there saying 'this file is ignored simlock.ta'.
Hard resets & updating with Sony Update Service isn't working and I'm really confused at this stage.
Is my phone screwed for good?
Same Problem with Xperia J

Did you find a solution for your problem?
In reality, I have the same problem with an xperia j (ST26i) , with some differences:
Initial Problem:
- The mobile belongs to my cousin, she updated it with the sony update center to the latest version (JB 4.1.2) and there: problem with the wifi when the sim.
- I got the mobile, and downgrade to the 4.0.4 version, I've tried 4 different versions:
-> ST26i_11.0.A.3.18_Global
-> ST26i_11.0.A.7.5_CE
-> ST26i_11.0.A.3.28_WE
-> St26i_4.0.4_11.0.A.3.28_CE3
I had always the problem with the wifi when the sim plugged.
Finally I've tried also the UNOFFICIAL CM 10, with no success
- I found a solution with the apk wifix manager witch worked with the 28 WE version of the firmware.
But I've continued to search an other solution, and I've remarked that when I flash the rom I always get the Warn: "This file is ignored : simlock.ta "
After some research I get an advice by a member of XDA to rename the file as "preset.ta", AND THERE, it works no warning ... BUT the sim is blocked (not locked) and I have always the message (invalid card).
I've tried to reflash the firmware many times, to relock the bootloader (with appropriate ftf proposed in this forum ), Tried to use the sony update service .. But I have always the same problem (INVALID CARD)
I've also tried to format everything with CWM (system,card,cache) and made a sdcard partition, and NO way.
So, can any body help me with that please?!
Note : I'm in the middle east zone, some suggestions in the web talk about re-installing the official O2 rom, but I've searched this ROM with no success.

I have this error on XPERIA SP C5303 trying to flash 12.0.A.1.284 on top of 12.0.A.1.257. But my phone is SIM Locked and I know it. And I thought that rewriting simlock.ta from unlocked firmware unlock the phone as well. But flashtool skipping that file. It's really annoying !!! Don't know what to do to unlock it now

Search Flashtool thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746 - I know there's some issue with simlock file, but I never dealt with it. I have read that it's possible to permanently damage if not careful, but I can't remember the exact situation. Did you already try flashing again?

Hi,
Its been some time since I did any flashing so apologies if this is a simple ask.
I have a H4113 XA2 dual Sim, I want to know if it is possible to flash the single sim H3113 equivalent firmware onto my phone because current firmware does not support VOWIFI etc. My network suppliers H3113 firmware does.
If so how do I do it in Flashtool as it currently tells me incompatible if I try the whole ftf.
Thanks in advance

Hi
I don't think it's possible, you will get lots of problems due to compatibility... I advise you to use Magisk instead to put VoWiFi and other features.
Regards,
F.
It is possible change stock firmware whole one platform for XA2 it is "Nile". I flash stock rom "Discavery"(XA2 ultra) to "Pioneer"(regular XA2) they r both Nile-platform.
Other people flash stock-roms btwin regions, to unlock some 4G-bands, for example.
But, u have to know:
"Simlock.ta" (maybe all *.ta files, as usual i delete all of em from firmware folder)& "persist.sin" - are dangerous parts of stock-roms. Don't flash they r btwin different models!!! Bcoz of that *.ftf roms r dangerous variant(coz they contain this parts).
I use "xperifirm" to download firmware by *.sin-files, then delete *.ta and persist, after that flash by "newflasher".
Has anybody tried it yet? does it work?
