I attempted a root on Samsung Note 2 Sprint version (in white). Followed all steps, however phone got stuck in a reboot loop right after I put the option 2 (root only) Odin step in. Sprint ver LPH889 (I believe that is what Odin is calling it, option 72). Toolkit used was ADB 4.1.0.
Original symptoms were that the Android updater was looping trying to load everything; being new I made it worse and tried recoveries and reloads which also failed. Now it boots, goes to splash, circling blue oval image and...it stays there.
Good news: I have access to download mode and recovery reset mode (including sideloading).
Bad news: every thread I've followed has given me an issue.
I have recovery access but I need some idea of where to go from here and searches have shown near but not exact symptoms. I have unplugged it from the pc, removed the battery, done a factory reset, attempted to reflash via Odin (root) attempted to reflash stock via Odin and so far I am still stuck in a reboot loop. Windows detects the phone but shows a problem in device manager because possibly it won't stop rebooting. Any help you can provide is appreciated and if at all possible I need to recover some form of working phone here, and soon. My girl needs it for work and Sprint's network in my area barely works from day to day (which they admit but don't credit my account for). This phone has problems sending/receiving calls, they claim it's fine, and I was forced to try a root to get some form of working device. That failed too.
I'm a newb at this...it's been years since I flashed a phone (Razor v3), so...any help would be appreciated, otherwise I have to crawl to sprint/samsung and get it replaced, which I don't want to do. Thanks.

What method are you using to root.....I used the "toolkit" and had no problems at all.

I thought it would to but I did not want to dig through 70+ pages of the thread when searching failed...unless I really needed to. Most of it is old and doesn't apply.
I was directed by the referenced Youtube vid. I used the options referenced for the phone in this thread with that toolkit. I backed up existing files (not as one unit, but internal files and I think OS), went for the option 2, followed the instructions and things went great through odin...until android went to update and started looping with the 'updating files' percentages. At that point I tried to restore to basic and started clearing caches and such and that is how I got to where I am.
When that failed I started looking at the leaked stock flash and that failed on shoot.ini which that guy never addressed because he thought his international version was all versions (that's why I choose 'doesitwork?' as screen name ). So i'm down to sideloading or something. I really need guidance, and I emailed the toolkit author but I'm still waiting on a reply.
Any thoughts?

When used the toolkit a year ago, I found that I had to turned off all firewalls and antivirus apps for it to work properly. Once I did that it worked fine....give it a shot...can't hurt......might even be able to repair what you've done so far.....Good Luck!!!
I'll give this my best shot...download a rooted rom from the development section and place it on your SD card.
Download toolkit from here (I take no credit for this) http://d-h.st/iu0
Put phone in download mode.
Open ODIN and uncheck "auto reboot". Then click "PDA" and add the .tar file (recovery).
Plug phone into PC (make sure to have samsung drivers installed).
Once ODIN sees the phone you can click "start".
When the recovery flash is complete, pull your battery to ensure power down.
Boot into recovery : volume up, home, power all at the same time.
Flash rooted rom.
Toolkit is an extra and unnecessary step.

Grab the one click flavor of choice. Use the one with 1090526 in the name as that's the full version.
Open in windows, put phone in download mode and flash. Easy Peasy.
Let me know if you have any issues with this.
Sorry for the late reply, I had some issues with the "catchpa".
The one click fix worked like a charm, thank you! I will soon be making a contrib to the site. It's a shame I couldn't root as easily  .
I know the level of work that goes into this stuff and the desire to keep on top of new gear while maintaining support for the old and I appreciate the community coming to my aid, so again, thank you!

edit: for some reason, the tool kit links have been pulled by a mod. ..but this video helped me get twrp back. phew. zedomax to the rescue.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7leb9OznhqY
I posted this on the Sprint Note 2 forum as well so I hope this isn't taken as me spamming
I have a Sph-L900 Sprint Galaxy Note 2. About a month ago the device started acting up Saying it couldn't connect to my Samsung Account, and the only way I was able to fix it was a factory reset. That soon turned into not being able to connect to my Google account and knox issues where something was trying to access my device administrator, and the only fix was to keep updating the samsung security police. The device began shutting off and restarting about two to three times a day with the same error notifications popping up on start up. I kept doing a factory reset in order to get ride of the issues but would reappear shortly after.
I have never tried to root my phone because I wanted to wait for my contract to be up before messing around with it.The most I have done is install a few 3rd party apps and use the google launcher apk as my everyday launcher. Eventually because it keep restarting so often I thought I would try to put cyanogenmod on it using the installer app.Unfortunately it kept saying it couldn't communicate with my device and had to abandon that option. A few hours later the phone restarted again but this time became stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 logo on start up. I tried to another factory reset hoping that would fix it but this is what happened
View attachment 2714536
The whole thing is in red and keeps saying error and fail.
I have no idea what the issue being a noob, but started looking through forums and posts hoping to get an answer. I thought trying to reload the stock rom might be my best bet and started looking into how to unbrick the phone on youtube and forums.
I downloaded Odin and tried [ROM][ODIN]SPH-L900 MK4 (MK4 Modem/Kernel/Bootloader/ROM - Full Restore - Unrooted), Galaxynote2root.com, and QBking77 methods and files for putting factory stock rom back on the phone. I spent all day trying each one only to get "nand write start fail" when trying each tar file on odin.
I wanted to see if someone might actually be able to explain to me the exact issue and hopefully a possible solution.
try entering download mode and connect it to kies and run the emergency firmware reset or something like that (it will ask you some numbers that are writen in the battery slot) try disabling antivirus also, it should work.
best,

Upgrading to KITKAT on rooted Note II
Hi all, I want to install french KITKAT Rom through Odin. Before doing that I want to factory rest it with out external memory card, I believe if I do not do it, it would wipe off all the data from it. Is it possible to reset with out the card ?
Thanks for your help.

I didn't re-partition. I keep hearing i need a Pit file for that. Plus A) haven't found one and B) not really sure of the process of how to do so since the videos online keep saying not to select it

This is practically a cry for help after i searched for hours.
Model: Sm-n910P
Software version : Unknown
Android : 4.4.4
Baseband: Unknown
build: PVPU1ANK2
Stock recovery
(if anything else helps just ask)
Problem first: My note 4 has no network of any kind (wifi doesnt start , doesnt recognize sim card )
When i try attaching a usb cable i get Device is not recognized (checked drivers, cables so its software and it's the mobile)
The only communication with the device is via the SD Card.
Tried flashing a stock 4.4.4 via stock recovery. Nope! It says Update from external card is disabled.
I'm looking for a way to root , or flash anything.
Every thought, suggestion, idea is welcomed.

Never been OTA updated to lollipop OE1? That one doesn't allow downgrading to older versions.
Device not recognized with USB in what mode and operation? Security protocols for KitKat and Lollipop are restricted. Device should be recognized in custom recovery or download mode. Did you try Odin? Power down, download mode and flash the NK2 stock tar. If you're still having problems ##786#. Still having issues, try the NIE stock tar. Make sure you power down before flashing stock tars. Link to KitKat tars mentioned above; follow OP, post 1 for instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56853341
For root, you need CF Auto Root for Note 4. You can also try TWRP Manager for custom recovery. It's in Google Play. But you don't have to root to flash in Odin. Samsung KIES is alternate method for restoring factory firmware or updates but some are confused by the serial number request; not recognized. Haven't tried it myself.

Tx for the reply.
Device is not recognized in neither mode (normal, download or recovery).
I tried ##786# but i dont know my msl and i cant find a wy to get it (im outside the US so the phone is not activated). I tried some "msl reader find my msl" programs but they cant get it. Any1 has some apk that may work in my case?
As for the flashing as I stated all I need is a way to flash stock but i cant get the PC to recognize the phone so im stuck.
EDIT 1 As far as I know never been updated (bought the phone in ebay)
I don't know if there's anything that can be done but get a refund. Sounds like you bought a brick. Was it always a brick?
Did you try another USB port? Try the rear port. If not, try a hard reset: wipe cache and dalvik and factory reset and try to reboot. Long shot would be a hard reset and OB7 update.zip; unless it's completely stock, the update will be rejected. But I'm thinking that can no longer just be placed on external sdcard. That may have to placed on the file system as if the phone downloaded it, itself.
It's safer to hard reset. If not rebooting to normal operation, time to pursue a refund.

So I was thinking about the situation you're in. I recalled the phone can be unlocked to use internationally on 3G only. Is it unlocked? It would also
need to set your carrier APN/Access points to get data.
If you own the phone, Sprint will give you the MSL number. Sprint can help unlock it and there's also this method but I don't know much about about it. There's also the hard reset method that can be done within settings.
Here's a method that was requested with a pledged bounty. But try Sprint first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...print-samsung-unlocker-unlock-sprint-t2928250
My initial impression was phone is bricked but not sure if a locked phone's WiFi is bound to regional USA that would cause WiFi connection issues? It's still possible the USB issue is not using a USB 2.0 port or a bad cable. It may not be bricked. Try reinstalling driver and/or another PC.

Well I tried everything u mentioned , full factory restore, wipe everything. I even tried update from external (since stock has no option for updating from the internal sd) but i get an error (update from external storage is disabled). The phone is practically a brick for the network part but I'm not sure I can return it back in the states as I'm in Europe. Any way i can root via some apk ?

I didn't think the root is possible without Odin for either the custom recovery or root.
eBay return practice would be to notify seller of issue. If no response, contact eBay.

Wouldnt the entire phone be soft-bricked (not just the network part) if you did the factory reset and wiped your phone but cant get the cable to recognize your phone on your pc ???
Or is that your current situation?
Well everything but network works. I can install apk's from sdcard, open apps etc. Next thing is the screen just got black and is not giving signs of life (didn't do anything it was charging) so it's going in a repair shop. Thanks everyone for the efforts. Case may be considered closed.

Hi,newbie here.My device isn't rooted.Yesterday, I downloaded Marshmallow update 6.0.1.At 43%,I started the update.I thought it will complete in that.you know, the logo and all came.I watched it updating till 85% then got on with my work. Then,I felt a vibration.I saw it rebooting and then it showed samsung logo in all white. It wouldn't move forwards after that.I heard 3 vibrations periodically. The 1st one...4 sec gap...and then the 2nd & 3rd vibrations in quick succession. And it would go on infinitely until the battery discharged.I plugged it in the wall charger and then I noticed the charging has also become very slow.I left it for charging at 6 AM and till now(12:14pm),its just 58%.I read in a thread about force restrat and quickly going into recovery mode.I wiped the cache partition hoping it would solve the problem but it didn't. I couldn't understand the rest of the part,so I didn't try.I selected power off option and right now it is charging.I have important data stored on the internal storage so I fear doing a factory reset.I also have fingerprint lock on it so I have no idea how to connect to PC and use.I got no idea about flashing roms.Is there any possible way to revert back to lollipop? I just want my data before I do something. Please help. Also,I had some pics(only pics) in the private mode.I also need to recover that.
Yea your going to have to flash a stock image via Odin.
Your going to have to do some reading on XDA, no way round it, there is no quick fix with a few buttons lol.
Here is the general flow, read on XDA to fill in your gapps.
1. Find load Samsung USB drivers
2. Find latest version of ODIN, Samsung flashing tool
3. Find and download stock image suitable for your version / country
4. Flash it
like I said read, read, and read again, all the info you need is here in good detail.
See,that is the problem. As I mentioned in the post,I have no idea what uou just said.I have only the slightest idea about yhus stuff. As I don't want to mess with my data,I am asking for a specific solution to this problemAny help would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't get it use Google to help.
Dude, you need to learn what all this stuff means , or pay someone to do it for you, simple as that.
Relax about your data, its still there. It can be recovered via adb , or even easier flash twrp recovery and use the inbuilt file manager and copy it to USB or SD card.
But before you do a shed load of study any further advice is useless, hows your PC skills?

Nope best get one for t705, but while you are here I would flash twrp custom recovery here,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...recovery-twrp-2-7-1-0-touch-recovery-t2817100
That recovery has a file manager in it, you can copy files around before you ever get to booting android, which is exactly what you need for your data.
You seem to be progressing quite fine, another day or so an you will have the experience necessary, you put yourself down on the first post, there is nothing wrong with your technical skills, your obviously a bright chap.
I'm not at all sure of private mode, have zero clue what it is or how it works, but I'm confident it can be cracked somehow. After all most other parts of Samsung have been cracked including fingerprint/pin lock.
But if you first flash twrp and see if you can data off that way, then if that fails we can have a go at cracking Samsung propper.
Yes tab is fine, data is fine, both will be back with a little time and effort.

So,basically..
1. I need to download twrp recovery on my pc.(Also,I don't think i had usb debugging enabled(i read that somewhere that it is needed to install twrp,i don't know)So,is that a issue or is it safe to proceed without it being enabled?)
2.Connect the tab to pc.
3.Download it to the tab via odin mode/flash it with sd card.
4.Take back up(one silly question: where will the back up get stored)(another one, just need to confirm: i will install twrp via odin mode and then boot into recovery mode and take back up,right?).
5.Then,Install stock rom via sd card(is that correct?)
And Then what?Am I good to go? Tab will just switch on then and I will have my data?help me here please.

1. Nope do not need adb enabled etc, your fine there
2. yep
3. Yep, just make sure you have appropriate Samsung USB drivers installed, and most recent version of Odin would be nice, you flash it by selecting file on PC which is then flashed to device, no SD card used.
4 yep, In twrp you have choice of where to put backup, chose extrenal SD card and your good to go.
4.1 When in twrp, go to advanced>file manager, navigate to your internal storage, then you can copy your data directly to SD card.
STOP HERE.
When you have successfully flashed twrp. Stop, at this point we have all the tools you need installed to start hunting for your data, and proberly repair your current installation. If your data is encrypted somewhere we definitely need to repair the boot, that's going to be easiest method.
Once we have the data, then yes flash a standard image.

From twrp you can do anything you need, full backup, selective, Fix your current system, flash a new one without overwriting your data pretty much anything.
What avenue we need to take depends totally what your data is and where it was stored, the answers in the detail, if its sensitive you can pm me.
But first be VERY CONFIDENT you have read everything you can get about ODIN and flashing twrp. I can guide you but your there not me, its up to you to know what you are doing. Just read a bit more, I think another day or so of intensive reading and you will be there. As I keep saying your not stupid just focus, there is frigg all difference between you and an android developer, they have just obsessively read up on the subject, you have not lol

Could you be available to guide me along the way as I don't want to mess this up? I am pretty confident now that I know that my data is safe and can be recovered. Data mostly consists of some docs and rest are valuable photos.I am just worried about the data stored on private mode(just photos).whether I will be able to recover it or not. So,I really need an expert's way to get it done.I have been reading a lot and I think I am ready. I have messed up my exams due to this.I have an exam tomorrow LOL.And I am busy with this because I won't get settled before I fix it.Also, thanks a lot for your valuable info and attention.

Dude if I was there would do it for you lol, yes sure will help you all the way.
Now your up to speed, I will write you a detailed guide to get your data, with as many screenshots as can take, I'm 90% sure your data is not encrypted, hence is somewhere on the tab in plain format.
If you don't need the data for exams, drop this for a couple of days and concentrate on what's left of exams. I will have your detailed guide finished when you do.

Just did a Google on private mode, the files under private mode ARE encrypted, that means although you can recover them you can't read them.
If we repair the tab they SHOULD. Be accessible ( once back in private mode) , but zero guarantees.
The other files, no problem.

You seem to be blowing this out of proportion and making it more complicated than it actually is.
The first thing you should do is simply install the stock firmware via odin. There are literally hundreds of in depth guides how to do this. Even the websites you download the software from usually have a guide.
I suggest you install the same android version you originally had as this is safest. If that doesn't boot then move on to the Marshmallow update.
Dont expect instant boot after installing either as the update can take some time to boot.
If worse comes to worse then there is always the option of installing Twrp. However there should be no reason your device shouldn't boot after installing the stock firmware unless the device has had a hardware failure.
Your private folder files should also be accessible via Twrp. They aren't encrypted in my experience and I have accessed files in the private folder just fine.

This is TOTAL NOOB guide to flash TWRP , with shed load of screen shots, if you dont get it from this then hey
Although its also for Fenris users it should suit you just fine.
But this is just for flashing TWRP on a T705, its not covering flashing a standard image.
I would listen to Ashyx , that guy has forgotten more about the tab s than i will ever learn lol

Yea and i have just created another guide for flashing TWRP, in my opinion a lot better quality then the ones you find around ( for a start using screenshots of up to date TWRP and Odin )
