Fastboot error "target reported max download size of ..." - Desire 820 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how to solve error in fastboot while flashing:
Code:
target reported max download size of 16777216 bytes
Invalid sparse file format at header magi
I can't flash recovery, but i was able to flash unlocktoken. I've already tried erasing cache.

Use a later version fastboot (v2 or 3) and do the update twice.

I've used latest version, probably the file i wanted to flash was corrupted, because with kinghunki's exe it worked.

HTC One M9 - can't flash

Hi all,
so just to say first that
my phone is s-off
the cid is SPCS_001
the radio is [email protected]
the OS is 3.33.90651.2 (Although there is no OS..?)
So I tried flashing the marshmallow update, and I had some other problems I fixed, but I can't figure this out
So in download mode, my sd card won't mount, i formatted it ext4 in twrp, don't know if that makes a difference..
And so I tried flashing the firmware through fastboot and got this:
fastboot update update.zip
target reported max download size of 800000000 bytes
archive does not contain 'boot.sig'
archive does not contain 'recovery.img'
archive does not contain 'system.img'
I have the system.img seperate but I can't transfer it to my phone or SD card due to the file size of 4.37GB.
EDIT: I tried flashing system.img and boot.img, system.img gave me this error:
fastboot flash system system.img
target reported max download size of 800000000 bytes
Invalid sparse file format at header magi
Any help would greatly be appreciated.. thank you.
any resolution to this?
Same question...any resolution?

This is kinda old, but I believe, its because the latest twrp doesn't work.

Hi,
you could try using the htc_fastboot from here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24421527759880682
----------
(from thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...arshmallow-t3316279/post65365561#post65365561 )
If your current fastboot isn't working/throws errors, please use the HTC fastboot in the zip below:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24421527759880682 (htc_fastboot.zip)
Replace existing commands with the HTC_fastboot prefix.
So for example, instead of:
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
You would do this instead:
Code:
HTC_fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
You are amazing I just tried and it worked !!!!! You are heavensent.
Now one last question do I have to redo the recovery and everything to get a custom Rom?
I just went through the process of installing the custom Rom again and now my phone constantly boot loops with the message " this build is for development purposes only..." it was the newest version of supersu

I'm glad it worked
You need to look for an older version of SuperSU.... 2.64 or 2.65
edit: I'm pretty sure this one works

Htc m8 twrp issue

Hey Everybody,
I have been a silent person on XDA visiting as a guest but now in need of help!
I downloaded Lineage 14.1 for my M8 from here about 8 months ago, however time has come to move on to something else.
The issue is firstly I wish to update TWRP but every time I do a reboot to enter recovery I don't get that option anymore. Seems like it has disappeared. Can anyone advise me how I can get the latest version of TWRP back on my device please?

Not completely clear what you mean here. Are you booting to bootloader? You should have the option to enter recovery from there. But the choice to select boot recovery missing? If so, that would be strange. Don't think I've seen that before.
Or you can select to boot recovery, and it doesn't go to recovery (reboots, etc.)?

Flash latest TWRP with fastboot. Or if that fails, tell us if there is an error message, or other description of the issue.

I am trying to install TWRP (3.2.1-0-m8) on a HTC One M8 and here is the error message I get:

Question fastboot error question

so I am trying to flash system_ext, product, and odm to fix a strange issue I have, and I am getting this fastboot error whenever I try to flash any of those partitions, and they are fresh out of a payload dump of the oos currently on my phone (11.2.4.4)
flash odm odm.img
target reported max download size of 805306368 bytes
sending 'odm' (55656 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.695s]
writing 'odm'...
FAILED (remote: (odm_a) No such partition)
finished. total time: 1.701s
how is it that I do not have an odm partition (along with system_ext and product) yet my phone boots fine. no matter what .img I attempt to flash in fastboot (product/odm/system_ext), it reports the partition is non-existent.
update: I grabbed the latest platform tools and it flashed.
please close thread mods. thanks
