Stock 6.0 AOSP Rom - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a completely stock 6.0 AOSP (no CyanogenMod based) ROM for the m8?

Not that I know of, there is a thread for an AOSP 5.1.1 ROM a while back that isn't being updated as of now. It's certainly possible to build it if you know what you're doing.

Wut?
How can AOSP be stock on an HTC device that isn't a Nexus? Even on Nexus it isn't exactly stock.
Try a GPE based ROM. That is stock Android.

I should elaborate.
AOSP is the Android Open Source Project.
There are no AOSP ROMs that are "stock". It is open source for development. AOSP is for custom ROMs.

@xunholyx There was an m8 Play edition.

That's what he said, try a GPE stock rom. That means Google Play Edition.

[Q] most stable rom sense/non-sense?

Hey Everyone! please tell me which is the most stable sense and non sense rom??? Which rom and kernel combination is the best?? I have already checked out the similar threads but most of them are outdated so please help me out thanks
I can't speak for Sense ROMs but I've been running Chillybean's CM10 ROMs for the past few months -- only a few bugs with sound and reboots up until the most recent 20130929 build (CM10.2 / JB 4.3).

All of chillybeans's 4.3 roms that is cm10.2 beanstalk 4.3 don't have working gsm if you want gsm I would recommend Leoposas's Zoe Rom its cm10.1 and runs really great
I saw this thread on how to enable gsm on Verizon mobiles running up to 4.4 but I tired to use it on chillys PacRom 4.3....
I wonder if am doing it all right or does the rom have no gsm support at all
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394689
well it really all depends if you like sense or if you like aosp or aokp. if you just want a good rom for daily basis id suggest a sense rom. if you're into customization then more than likely you're gonna want to go with aosp or aokp. but with you using gsm those roms are kinda iffy seeing as a lot of them for gsm use are still in the works. if you do want an aosp rom tho id suggest cm7 i do believe for most builds they do have gsm working or you can try the global roms made for gsm or that Zoe rom if you're wanting to be on jellybean. ive got cdma so my options arent as limited. hope this helps in some way.
You should all try Chillybean's fly-CM10.2 its really fast and smooth and has working gsm its 4.3
Yeah its a pretty cool rom. Still having a bit of problems in the cm source tho like with screenshots and torch but its definitely worth check out.
---------- Post added at 11:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:32 PM ----------
And the thing with the gsm patch even tho it says it will enable gsm on verizon cdma phones doesnt mean it will work on all devices and patches dont always fix the problem if its deeper upstream related. Hope this helps.
Downloaded and flashed chillys cm10.2 minus the screenshot problem, absence of nav bar, buggy status bar when using xposed tinted status bar....its an awesome smooth ROM, a nic bream from the constant reboots of the 4.2 ROMs.
Thanks for the info
I've tried all of Chilly's ROMs, and the most stable for me is 10.2 (4.2.2) Slim Bean. All of the others eventually slow down and require frequent reboots. At this point, I don't know if it's something in the rom, or the B-Team kernel, but I think I've settled into SlimBean with the "stock" Chilly-evervolv kernel. It's the fastest/snappiest, and hopefully stays that way.
The only thing I'm missing is the CM Voice+ app.
I'm not sure which post I found it in, but this stock rom minus most Verizon crud is called
6.01.605.05_VZW__OTA-stripped-odex.zip
It's stabled but not "new".

I might have to give that a shot, what's the difference between "fly" and his other CM10.2 ROM?

The fly one is modded fly is the name of the mod whereas the other is pure stock. Look up fly mod in the Android development section for details of the mod

What do you mean by the "stock" chilly-evervolv kernel? I've been searching for a bit and can't find it. I've had the same issue with the slowdowns and I'd like to give this one more shot before reverting back to the sense roms.

"Stock" in this case means the kernel that comes with Chilly's 10.2 slim bean, as opposed to a kernel like B-team that you have to download and flash separately.

Porting 4.4

Will it be possible to port the GPE version of 4.4 when it is released? Or will we just need an AOSP version?

I am also wondering this. Once we have 4.2.2 verizon kernel source, will we be able to get ports of the newer GPE software?
Give our devs time. They'll hook us up. Always do. Gotta be a little patient.
And to answer your question I imagine we'll end up with both. We have both now. I don't see why 4.4 would be any different. Our Devs are in beast mode 25/8 366 so don't be surprised if we end up with awesome sauce (both).

See the issue is exactly what you just stated. Kernel source. HTC is notorious for being slow with US variant kernels. They have kernel source T-Mo, AT&T and Jank (Sprint) for android 4.1.2 but not 4.3. I emailed HTCDev directly asking about when they are releasing source and that HTC has had a history of violating GPL and that got a response asking for our ROM version, radio version, etc. etc. and was "escalated" up the chain. We'll see if I hear anything. My guess is I won't.

should i update to new firmware

I have been running the final version CleanROM ACE since last year and it has been great for the most part. I do get random shutdowns and reboot nowadays once in awhile and not sure what is causing it. With all the new roms, stock 4.42, AOSP variants, is it worth the time to update? What I am missing out here?
ART worth the upgrade?
Stability?
Speed?
any new features. Miracast sucked on the Cleanrom from my experience.
How's Driver support for AOSP. I need the digitizer working.
I don't want to upgrade just for upgrade's sake. Anyone can share their experience?
Thanks:highfive:

I would the modem is better and kitkat is way smoother unless you are running an asop rom but art isn't that good yet I can't really tell if I have it on or not but try this rom im running it as we speak and I think you'll like it hes trying an updated version but just do an backup and try it

That rom I posted a link it has agni kernel built in and I can give you my settings for it to if you wanna try it out
just installed and it seems to be running fine. One question tho? what's the best way to manage app permission on 4.4.2?
one reason I stayed in clearrom is that I could install an App to stop unauthorized access to contact, sms and etc.

Cyanogen Mod 13.0 Unofficial (OFFICIAL)

Hello I was wondering if any of you guys can tell me why we don't have CM13 homemade here, or official one, what is needed for that?
Thanks!
We do have working RR and AOKP, so probably just a matter of time.
RR on Marshmallow? Because CM13 is on Marshmallow. I know AOKP we have, but it's buggy.
do you know how long is it to work CM13 on this device
---------- Post added at 07:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:24 AM ----------
it is possible to see this thread in the XDA app?
Yes RR MM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65426889&postcount=1003 In my experience AOKP isn't so much 'buggy', in the way of being unstable, but no mobile data. RR is same, and also I couldn't get Gapps working... All I was saying is that it seems we're on the road to CM13

Most stable Android 7 custom rom?

In your opinion what's the most stable and bug free Sense based Android 7 custom rom out there?
Cheers

Also, the question is easy to answer: There are no Sense based Android 7 ROMs for the M8. Android 6 is the latest for Sense.

Sense 7 is not the same as Android 7. Also, it was Sense 8 that was ported from the HTC 10 (and still Android 6).
There are only 3 ROMs with Sense 8 (S.ROM, LeeDroid and ICE) so just pick one or two and flash them, and try for yourself. They are all stable and great ROMs.
I'm currently running the Resurrection Remix Rom. While not Sense based, it is Android 7.1.2. It's super slick. The only, and I mean only downside is that you can't use android auto with it. I'm working on finding a way around that, but for now that is how it is.
None of them are as smooth as sense based marshmallow from my testing.
I've also tried GPE 6.0 ROM and it's simply not as smooth as Sense. I really don't get it

I've also tried a GPE based rom back on Lollipop and found the same. But regarding bugs, is it a boring issue still?

There's quite a few on 7.x but nothing major. If you use Maps to get across places then I certainly wouldn't recommend
