I'm not rooted. Is there any way to disable or make the Emergency Call more childproof? While I'm napping, my 2yr old be taking my phone and accidentally emergency calling 911. -_-
I'm not sure but there might be a xposed module that might do that

What is Wanam Exposed Module? Please remember I'm not rooted. Can you do some screen shots for me? Thanks.

Good find. I'm always worried my kids may do the same.
And to OP, yes you need to be rooted for thus method and have Xposed installed.

Darn it!! LOL. Didn't feel the need to root these phones anymore but guess I'll think about it. Thanks!

When i place a call and put the phone to my ear and then pull back away the screen does not "wake". It stays de-activated, no matter what i do. Eventually the only thing to do is to hold the power button down long enough for the phone to reboot.
Stock ROM, no root.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
WTF
I tested by laying the phone flat on a surface, placed a call, and then put my hand over the proximity sensor. The screen turned black as it should. When I removed my hand it did not come back on. Again, the only solution is to reboot the phone. So, the proximity sensor is not working correctly. Is this a known issue and is there a way to fix?
BUMP!
I'm in the self test module and am running the "sensors" test. I'm not sure when this ends if it ends at all or what values that proximity sensor field should have.
Anybody? Bueller?
Apparently Q&A isn't the place to post this? This is dissapointing coming from the E4GT forums which were super responsive.
Cool yer jets. It's only been a few hours. What ROM? Rooted? Any other mods that might affect it?

I said no root stock ROM
Anyway, I turned off the proximity sensor, verified that it was off, then turned it back on. It works now. Bizarre.
Sorry to get pissy.

Edit. Found it.

NOT FIXED
So after a reboot the proximity sensor does not work on calls again. I turned it off and then back on and still no luck. I didn't actually make a call, but obviously I shouldn't have to do this every time i reboot the phone, so clearly there is an issue. It appears to be software since I got it to work once.
Any ideas? Thanks.

After insalling a new screen my phone acted the same. I opened it up again and found a tiny piece of plastic form the old screen inside the proximity sensor hole.
I know your problem is not this, just wanted to share

hmmm interesting. I think this is likely a software issue on mine. it would be dumb to have to return it since i'm confident there's a way to fix it.

That solution wasn't very good aha, what I would suggest you root your phone without tripping the flash counter and install a custom rom to see if the issue still exists, if yes you should return the phone.

thanks well it's brand new and it may be hardware related so i'd rather just get a fresh device then sweat dealing with root yet. this is why i waited to root it. I appreciate your effort though .

Plus I don't think just rooting it is a sound fix strategy.

My phone is auto calling 911 when I reboot or soft reboot, but it shows on screen as "Unknown". One of my apps is triggering a 911 call and masking it as "Unknown". Even if I reboot in airplane mode the moment I toggle airplane mode off, it proceeds to making the call to "Unknown"(911), and I have to rush to end it before 911 dispatch calls me back. So can anyone help me with trying to monitor which apk is responsible for triggering that call?
It only does it once after a reboot, and won't do it again till the next reboot(or soft reboot). I attached my phone info. I am rooted and I recently installed Xposed Installer, the framework and some modules, see attached photos for a list of the most recently downloaded apps.
Also, I am currently running a scan for any malware etc via Lookout. I have OS Monitor but can't really understand what it's showing me. Please help, I was able to soft boot earlier with no problem, now my phone auto calls.

I have not followed the thread, but have you disabled the apps approved for admin?
Do you have lookout etc... they have reboot notifications, that will send an email/text it could be sending it to the wrong number.
Kool ill check those out and see if thats the issue.
Ok i disabled the apps inside the device admin. And resparted the phone it still did the same thing. Then i used 'Hidden Device Admin Detector', scanned my pjone and it came up with nothing.
Is there an monitor app that can log everything then i can send that to you so you can pin point how the call is being triggered?
Man, your lucky... I thought I was the only one who had this issue. I fixed mine finally by just doing a dirty flash of my rom. But I tried everything I could think of and couldn't seem to figure it out.
The only things I could remember installing around when it happened was some xposed mods. Did you install any xposed mods recently? I was scared the 911 people were going to get mad. It's really the craziest thing I ever had happen to my phone... Let me know what you installed, maybe we can figure it out.
Chris
Yea in the screen shots i put up. It has all the xposed stuff i put up. I don't want to flash my phone though. Lol i actually like the stock rom. But let me know what u think

xMultiZone clock is the exact app I suspected. That's the one I had installed when the chaos started. But I could't be sure since I uninstalled and it still happened. But I bet that is the cause of it. Maybe make a post in his thread and I will dig around in his xposed app and see what the heck is doing that.
Chris

Chris
Yup. Seems like that's the culprit

I had the exact same problem and tracked it down to Wanam Xposed or Pen Window Manager. It changes your feature.xml and/or others.xml CSC file so I made a backup of the original. If it happens again let me know if this works.
Does anyone know if htc disabled heads up notifications for incoming calls. They works on all apps except incoming calls. I have the allow peeking turned on in settings but still nothing.
Any update to this?
I cannot find the Peeking option, but as of now I get full screen calls at all times. This is very annoying as I need to use my phone while these calls come in, but I have to wait or reject the calls in order to do so.
Anyone with a solution?

there are no headsup notifications for calls on the HTC10.
The feature got added in our rom though a few weeks ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...tweaks-hub-t3379151/post69951789#post69951789

OK so, I'm rooted, S-OFF and locked still. I have TWRP running, with SuperSU. Obviously, it's just not the same as yours.
My question is: Can I still flash Viper? And if so, which one and how. I would love to stay on the latest Nougat build, and to have the heads up calls.
Whichever one it is, may I flash through TWRP or not? I don't know if I can wait until next weekend to learn the MAGISK stuff and details.
Hi. I'm on the latest build, 223 with root. Any time I get a phone call, when something is on the call sensor, the screen goes black and never turns on till the call is over. Sometimes I have to restart it. Also when listening to sounds in WhatsApp, the same sensor problem happens. I bought my device in Europe. Is there anything I can do to fix it?
No, I have this problem too.
You can only disable the sensor in the settings of asus call app

whatsapp doesn't have the option to disable the sensor.
there is an xposed module that disable completely the sensor but it needs bootloader unlock, root and xposed.

yes is it, strange that not work, I used it in the past and it worked, used the app sensor box to test the sensor and was disabled.
Yes, I faced this problem in Marshmallow. I was hoping they fixed it in 223 but based on your post it looks like its not yet fixed.
Recently my touch broke and I replaced by LCD+Touch and now proximity is not working on Lollipop also. It is always stuck at 'near'. Cleaning did not help.
I deleted 'android.hardware.sensor.proximity.xml' but it did not help. I badly need a way to disable proximity sensor completely for all apps (WhatsApp, Jio4GVoice, Phone etc.).

Root and Install Sensor Disable via Xposed. Set proximity sensor to far always. i.e. Mock sensor values (5 cms)
This is the workaround I use and it is better than having a black screen when I make or receive a call.
Works for all apps.
It takes a lot of juice. I can stop it manually, but it turn itself on again, like a freaking virus. I am on version 7.0 nugourt, not sure I can still root it.
Any help?
TIA
