I don't know what this app is and why Samsung wants me to use it, but I just don't need it.
Is there any way to disable it, without rooting or else? The disable button is grayed out, I can't click it. I already disabled the Galaxy App Store, so it didn't update, but it still doesn't want to be disabled. I would really appreciate your help, guys. I have to admit, that if there is no other way than to root, I will.
You cannot uninstall the app without root. Bear in mind that if you chose to root, you will trip Knox and will never be able to use Samsung Pay on this phone. Which sounds like what you want anyway, i just want to be clear about that.
That sucks. Thanks for the answer, though.

anyway to back up my apps and data without being rooted? I need to do a hard reset to get my clock and exchange email to work again, but really don't want to loose my stuff I already have. My damn phone updated to GB before I could catch it, so I couldn't root.
thanks in advance
I'm pretty sure Astro has a feature that will back up the .APK's. But I don't think there is a way to back up the data associated with them without being rooted.
It's ridiculous that you can't back up data without being rooted, imo. Especially when you call customer service and the first thing they tell you to do is factory reset.
I hope I am wrong, and if I am, someone please correct me.
astro. it's free.

will it also back up data? I found where it will back up the apps. Thanks for the quick replies.
So I'm a first time Android user, just picked up the Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus. Rooted it with the r3 superboot image. Mainly I just want root access so I can enable tethering, I don't really plan on doing much else with it. After rooting, does that mean I can no longer receive OTA updates? And if so, how would I update Android from here?
Thanks everyone!
Also I should note that other than running a web server, I'm relatively new with linux console as well.

you will receive. And it should update just fine, if you didnt change anything in system.
Awesome, thanks.
Also, in case anyone finds this, a lot of tethering apps weren't working for me. Couldn't start ad-hoc and create an SSID. The free one that I found that did work right away was Tethering Widget.

OTAs will either not install, or will install but remove your root. If you want to preserve your system and not chance anything just wait a few for the update packages to come out and flash them manually.
As far as tethering, I'd take it easy for a little while. Just rooting and installing a 3rd party app doesn't instantly let you tether the Verizon version. They still have their own tracking software thats going to block/ask you to pay for it. You're best off waiting for people to figure out what files need to be removed to make sure VZW isn't watching your tethering activity.
Awesome thanks for the heads up. As long as i can avoid having to reroot and set up all my personalization, then that would be great. So these update packages, do i install them the same way by booting into bootloader mode and installing it with fastboot?
And i think my last question will be is where is a good spot for me to pay attention to in order to find out when evdnts like these discoveries on tethering happen and the updates released?
Again thanks for being so helpful and covering my ass This is a pretty cool community
Is there a way to stop updates if you're rooted?
I just got the 8.4 Tab Pro, and I had forgotten how much I hate TW. So here is an odd question for all of you...
Theoretically, could I flash CM11 or Slimkat on this, and then UNROOT? My employer doesn't allow rooted devices to connect to their Exchange servers (enforced by a 3rd party MDM application). If this was possible, would you be "stuck" on that ROM?
I am actually thinking I might be better off going to a 2013 N7 instead for the unmodified android experience...

Personally, I just stopped reading email on my personal device when my employer enforced root (either I had to stop doing android development on it or give up email, an easy choice...).
It can be hard to convince the mdm software that your device is okay. Depending on the mdm application, it may be doing something simple like checking to see if "su" works or it could be looking for busybox or almost anything else. Figuring out what triggers it can be a pain. If you want to tinker then there is a good chance that you can make the mdm software happy but it's not even guaranteed.
Thanks for the reply...
That is an option too. I already have a phone that I am keeping stock and unrooted so I could skip the email on the tablet. The whole rooting and ROMing experience just seems like a hassle on the Samsung devices with their Knox software now.

Knox only does two things. First, it leaves a permanent marker to say that you voided your warranty (which, IMO, you have by flashing custom software). Second, it forever stops you from using Knox secured Samsung software (which it has to because after flashing something you may have violated that security).
Otherwise, it is wide open. Just be sure you don't want to return it before you start flashing...
I have a gs6 rooted via ping pong root and using galaxy tools to get hotspot as well as enable all toggles. The only problem I have is that NFC does not work. The first screen under the settings says it's off and the second screen says on but I am not able to toggle the switch. The quick toggle looks like it's continually pressed, see attached picture. I've tried searching but I haven't had any luck. I also tried flashing stock firmware via Odin but had no luck with that either. It worked before I rooted/used galaxy tools is it possible that one of those broke something? Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks for your help!
I don't think it's the rooting that did it, I have gs6 and have the same issue. By any chance do you have sprint for carrier? Mine worked until installing Samsung quick pay and an ota update by sprint now both claim it's not there issue
I do have Sprint. I don't know what caused the issue but I ended up sending the phone back to Samsung for repair since it was covered under factory warranty yet. I don't know what they fixed but it's working fine now.

Samsung pay is 100% disabled but I believe that there is a android pay work around on the renegade ROM thread.
Edit: Realized that I shouldn't hijack the thread, sorry
never cared to even try Knox but I just bought a kick butt Gear 2 and it seems to require Samsung Knox for S Health to run so I can log my heart rate and sleep data. But S health seems to have issues during setup.
Not knowing anything about Knox and the software and I am hesitant to running it. Does anybody have Samsung Knox and/or S Health running? Touch the wrong update on the Note 7 and you can say bye bye. Lol
I checked off several updates boxes in the disabler app and My Note 7 is money. Don't even want to touch the icon on this app. I also disabled updates from the play store and removed the play icon from my homepage.
Let me know if you have had success with SHealth, Knox and/or Gear 2 data. I want to see this sleep analysis feature.
I don't want to update Knox unless I know for sure my note 7 won't update with the self destructing update.
If you have a disabler app installed go ahead and do it. If you need one check it here ->

I thought it was built into the phone but I guess not. Downloaded it from the play store and tried to install it......"License failure" during the last stage of the setup.
