back up - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

anyway to back up my apps and data without being rooted? I need to do a hard reset to get my clock and exchange email to work again, but really don't want to loose my stuff I already have. My damn phone updated to GB before I could catch it, so I couldn't root.
thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure Astro has a feature that will back up the .APK's. But I don't think there is a way to back up the data associated with them without being rooted.
It's ridiculous that you can't back up data without being rooted, imo. Especially when you call customer service and the first thing they tell you to do is factory reset.
I hope I am wrong, and if I am, someone please correct me.

astro. it's free.

will it also back up data? I found where it will back up the apps. Thanks for the quick replies.

[Q] How do I get data back on my Evo?

Here's what happened:
Called Sprint because I was unable to send out SMS although I was able to receive. I was on the device at the time of the call and I asked the rep if she wanted to call me on another phone. She said that what she had to do didn't involve me being on a different line. I found it kind of weird but I figured she knew what she was talking about.
She tells me that she's done doing what she was doing and that I had to reboot my phone. I disconnect the call reboot my phone and test out the SMS. It works but now my data doesn't work at all. I'm using Cyanogen RC1 and I see no 1X or 3G at the top. I can s/r calls as well as s/r sms.
I called again and the guy knew I was using Cyanogen's ROM (I guess they have a way to do that now). He tried basic troubleshooting but we couldn't fix it. How do I fix this? I remember seeing a website link in a thread a while back that contained all the different PRL versions available for download in a .zip file that we could flash in recovery. Does anyone have the website?
I tried rebooting. Should I do a nandroid restore? I have a feeling it's network related so I don't know if that will fix the issue.
Have you tried flashing a sense or stock rom and see if you get text messages there. Worth a shot. If not give your nandroid a shot or even a full wipe install.
I'm going to a nandroid restore right now. I already backed up all my apps and stuff.

Good luck!
No luck. I'm on the phone with Sprint right now and all of the reps I speak to are lost. I know it's a network issue and something not being enabled on their side.
Ok I got off the phone with them and still haven't resolved my issue. They are claiming they can't help me because my phone is rooted. They wanted me to press ##3282 commands but Cyanogen doesn't have those functions built in.
This mess all started off with a texting problem. The thing that baffles me is that SMS has nothing to do with data.

Yup, that was my idea.
I'm still a bit taken back at the fact they knew which rom you were using.
Yeah man the guy was like " I'm looking at your account and I was checking what version you were using and it says Fresh". I told him that it was what I was using before but I'm using Cyanogen now.
They somehow know what version. I think they somehow send a signal to your device so it can send back the info that's in the about section. I thought it was pretty cool. He kept stressing that my warranty was void.

[Q] Looking for .apk of new sprint security App

Does anyone have the new sprint security app as a .apk? I am currently running Myn's z port and sprint will not recognize my phone as an Evo. I do know I could just flash back to a different Evo rom and download it, back it up, and nandroid back to where I was at but that is a pain in the ***! I am sure if some one where to post it, there would be many appreciative people!
I do not believe this to be a repeat post for I did search before posting but you never know.....you know!
Thanks!

Thanks So much. It is really appreciated!
Will this work for people without the Total Equipment Protection service? I doubt it, but I have Where's My Droid to help me find my phone and it lets you set a pass code on it.
According to the web site it will not. But i believe they give you a month free trial if you want to give it a shot!
For those who came into this thread that don't have TEP, be sure to check out Plan B. It's an easy way to locate your phone without ever installing any software before you lose your phone. It essentially pushes the app to your phone and upon install it notifies you of its location.
Sounds like a good alternative.....is this available on the market?

What does this app do?
It has some basic security features such as remote wipe, find phone, and force alarm on full volume. It also had a contact backup feature and web service to find closest repair center. You can also start tep claim...
Which doesn't make sense....if you are trying to start a claim your phone is probably already boned
Remember it free if you have tep. If not, be aware.

[Q] Major problem!!!

not sure where to begin, i suppose by listing my phone specs after root--
using the galaxy s2, (epic 4g touch) using kernal 2.6.35-8lostkernelexp+, build number starburst 11.13.11 v1.9.8r and running nothing but the honey theme.
i rooted the phone about a week ago and until today, everything seemed to work fine, then suddenly, i was unable to send pictures via text. not a real big issue, but i travel alot and sending pics back home by messages i a big deal for me. i thought it was just somethin with the phone, and after rebooting and rebooting to see if it would correct, it did not. however, normal text's would go through, just not any pics. i could send and receive normal words with no issues.
then just today, i totally lost internet connection--although the 3g is lit up on top, and i have 4 full bars of signal, i cannot surf, all i get is "unable to display webpage". since im at home, i turned on the wifi option and connected through the router in my house, and all worked fine-- i got online, send pic texts, etc...but when i turned wifi off, nothing.
now, back when i rooted the phone, i still kept getting the annoying "system update" messages that the phone normally does, forcing me to install whatever update the phone grabs. to prevent that, i did the steps on this site which was here--
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1388778&highlight=freeze+ota
and disabled my update notifications. well, back to the beginning--now i have no internet at all and god only knows what else is wrong that i have yet to discover.
only thing i can think of at this point, is to unroot the phone , return it to the way it was and see how it goes but i dont want to do that--
any ideas?

Why not nandroid a backup of your current setup and then do a full factory reset wipe and ODIN over a stock rom and see if that fixes it...if it does then there is no reason to bring a perfectly good phone back.
Diagnostic process bro, get on it.
However if that doesn't yield any results? Might be bad hardware (which I doubt) and probably not your fault.
EDIT: You haven't changed your PRL by chance, have you? Sometimes on 11115 or 00001 I get intermittent MMS function...and a few times, legit PRL or not, my wifi/4g have just stopped working. A wipe and stock-restore took care of that every time...though that was a week or two after the phone came out and we didn't have nearly as many tools and options as we do now.
Also, are you sure that you haven't somehow disabled 3G or put it into airplane mode? As insulting as that sounds I have to ask....
...sometimes even the brightest of us forget to plug things in.
Odin restore would be the first step.
I would try ##72786# in the dialer then entering your msl. After that just just hut yes then let your phone do its thing and reboot and reactivate. Just remember to cancel it during the firmware check.

Good call...or even just trying to refresh your profile under 'updates' would be the easiest place to start...
The mms issues are likely a limitation of the ROM you are running (I haven't run Starburst in a couple of months so you'll have to ask about that in the ROM thread.) Easily resolved by using a third party app for mms if it is an important feature for you.
As far as the rest, the code provided by beejis is the reprovisioning code, also called a hands free reset and there is a bit more to the process than he stated (at least for a noob.) Hit the toolkit link in my signature and you'll find step by step instructions.
If that doesn't work, starting fresh is an incredibly simple process.
Also, posting the exact same question in two different forums is breaking a Cardinal rule, so you probably want to refrain from that, it won't win you many friends.

yes i tried that, after the phone reboots, it says uptop "device not activated" and nothiing....i have to manually go into settings/about phone/system update and do it from there and even then, after a few secs, i get an error message saying unable to complete...

If you have titanium backup, go into that app then click backup/restore at the top. Find system updates and click on it to see if it's frozen, if it is defrost it. Then try my steps again. Other than that I'd try to Odin a stock ROM.

i did do the ##number thing, the phone rebooted but notihng happened--i thought it was supposed to auto activate or something. so i went into settings/about phone/update profile....it scanned and after a few mins, i still get the error message "update could not be completed, if problem persists contact sprint customer support"
so im back on factory rom, but nothings changed---im where i was before--no data/internet....
before installing a different rom and such, i figure ill stop here and see what other suggestions may come about....sooooo, what next?
Take your phone in to a sprint store, an exchange may be in your future.

what if i did a total wipe, factory reset? i know ill loose everything on the phone, and now that its not rooted any longer, i have no way to back up anything (or at least not that i know of)
just hoping theres a better fix than a return/ factory reset
Now that you are stock, call sprint tell them your issue (only tell then internet doesn't work) and they'll do stuff on their end to trouble shoot it. Hopefully that will fix it.

That sucks, I'd recommend taking the phone to Sprint/where you bought it, and get it replaced/fixed. Good news is you're now back on stock so they won't really look into rooting as a problem. I always put phones back to stock before I take it in for a claim.

i did call sprint per Beejis reply here just above yours. after going through a ton of crap that i did yesterday and all today, the ## number crap, they tell me there's a nationwide outage. now i find that hard to believe since both my other phones in the house, wife/kid work just fine and they have data/internet and other ppl i know have no problems....i told the tech person that it just must be my phone only cuz everyone else's seems to work.
she did give me an outage number, maybe someone on here can verify it -- 8622911 so who the heck knows. what i do know is, i sure spent a heck of alota time on here, resetting my phone, unrooting, blahh blahh just to find out there's an outage which i doubt in the first place ...
we'll see,,,,,
If you are now stock/rooted, sounds like you need to use sfhubs auto root script to go back to stock recovery (overwrite your custom recovery) unroot, and take it back to Sprint.

also, still no data/internet as of this morning. dont know why sprint
is telling me this bs story of an outage, and even if so, i find it way hard to beleive its a 4 day outage
but yes, looks like im headed back to the store-- i got it at best buy, have insurance and all that, but ill wait till tomorrow or something just in case this phantom outage corrects itself
by the way, where do i find this sfhubs root your talking about?
oh one other thing i discovered today also, now gps dont work either, no location, no search no nothing and it is turned on......... sigh

Not Receiving Calls or Texts

Hello all,
Recently, I flashed Calkulin's E4GT 2 rom from his E4GT 3.0 one, and things had been working well for a day until it began to randomly crash and stopped notifying me/receiving any missed called/texts. I flashed back to 3.0, saw the same issues reoccur (calls/texts not coming through); reflashed 3.0 and wiped everything and still to no avail.
Data works perfectly, and I am able to send texts as well as call.
Any advice on what to do?
Try this go to settings, about phone, system updates then update profile and PRL then reboot phone and see if that helps.
call sprint (*2), tell them you want to do a DATA REFRESH, works everytime, just make sure you have your ESN ready.

sort of, when people come into my store with this issue i usually do an update of the profile but if that doesn't fix it, i do a data refresh....update profile is like a "soft reset" and data refresh is like a "hard reset", both essentially do the same thing just one is more extreme and complete reprograms the phone.
Okay, so I called Spring and asked them to do a data refresh and also updated the PRL and Profile but to no avail.
Any other ideas? Or should I just unroot and go to Sprint and see if they'll be able to help me?

yeah but on a side note...sprint can truly work on rooted phones, even with custom ROMS. It is just up the store if they want to or not. So next time you take it in and they say they cant work on rooted phones, its law that they have to...(unless your ROM is the reason for the issue) ha

Thanks to everyone for their help; ended up going to the store today and they ran a diagnostics test and reset everything. They said they had some towers down as well, so that may have added onto the problems.
Once again, thanks to all!

[Q] R800X Failing At Step 3 of OTA

I did everything right (at least I'm pretty sure). I quadruple checked to ensure that there were no traces of root on my phone (Last time I was rooted the Software Update wouldn't even open, so I know I'm not rooted). I made sure that all system apps were restored prior to unroot. I kept it connected to a constant power source. Everytime I try to update (I think I'm at attempt #6 ) it fails at the 3rd step. Superuser is nowhere to be found on my Play. Does anyone have any ideas? The last thing I want to do is a full system restore, because wouldn't that require me activating it again?

I wouldnt worry about OTA, just restore the nandroid that netiznt posted. I have 2.3.4. on my phone now with DoomKernel and root. Just did a nandroid restore in recovery. Works great
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630348
Would that wipe stuff like my texts and whatnot? I'm new to all of this so I don't know too much yet. Would the nandroid basically be the upgrade without the hassle of Verizon's OTA service, or would my version still say 2.3.3 if I go to About Phone? I just don't want to lose all of that data and stuff.

Just to show you, I just checked for an OTA update and it said I was current. I would highly recommend you do a nandroid backup of what you hae now, then once thats done restore the new 2.3.4 nandroid. It will be like a fresh wipe on your phone.
Would I be able to restore messages from the nandroid backup of my phone? If the OTA fails, I'll definitely do this then. Did you notice any improvements from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4?
Sorry about the double post but I just checked everything in my root folder, and when I got to the system apks, I noticed that the dates on them were 30 May 2012... Could the fact that those dates didn't even happen yet be interfering with the OTA? Maybe it does some sort of date check, and future dates returned some kind of error message. What do you guys think?
I had the same problem, no matter what you do its not gonna work. However if you follow my instructions here you can get it to work, and then reload your user data in. Don't use the 2.3.4 nandroid backup they are talking about, WiFi and camera don't work, and its for unlocked bootloaders.

Nope, there no notification, its like if your phone broke and you got a new one, or if you did a perfectly reasonable factory reset, the ESN is already associated with your account, so you're fine.

Most importantly though, if and when the PSN store is released it will only work with 2.3.4 or better. Some people have anticipated its release this week.
As for spending 2 hours, you aren't really doing much during that 2 hours, you can probably watch TV and not get screwed up lol.
