Please install Wakelock Detecot + Greenify applications. The first - collect statistic about CPU running, wake up etc. The second - You can hibernate the memory leak, cpu most running app.

Battery life

Is it normal to have 39% battery left with normal use after 8 hours 30 mins?
Running Opendesire 4.0 and newest radio
Just asking becasue i think it's running low fast..
OJ haven't died...
your lucky,
my battery is empty after 7 hours.
desire's battery is terrible. I couldn't manage to get 5h of using on it.
I am running the stock htc sense 2.2 rom, and my battery with moderate to heavy use would hold out for 24 hours. Something is badly wrong if you are getting less than 12. It was pretty much the same for me on 2.1 too. Getting 38+ hours now I'm using tasker.
Custom roms are supposed to be more efficient too. Have you looked to see what is using the power? A rouge app perhaps?

I wrote this post the other day and just to update it i ended up getting 60 hours on one full charge which is pretty amazing. Some of the other posters had a go at me about turning mobile internet off and wifi off but who cares i got 60 HOURS!!!!
Hi Everyone,
I thought id share the amazing battery life im having, ive had it going for 48 hours so far and still got 45% of my battery still left, ill tell you all my set up and i wish you can get the same.
Installed LeeDroids rom (1.9a) which is absolutely amazing i must say, i love it.
Got the new radio 32.44.00.32u_5.09.05.30_2.
SetCPU running and have the normal standby on the phone at 642mhz and 245mhz when the screen is off.
I also have a task killer on set to kill most apps when the screen turns off and i have read about androids memory management but it makes me feel better when i run it and i personally think it helps.
Finally, and possibly the most important is an app called AutoKiller that interacts with androids internal memory management system and i have that set to ultimate.
I think thats it, and i have been using the phone averagely, and have turned off wifi and mobile internet and only use it when i need it.
Good luck everyone, hope this is helpful in someway.
I used to get 6 to 12 hours after I recovered my phone from being usb bricked. I'd missed a vital part of the recovery procedure! Now I get over 24 hours with heavy usage. I'm also using Setcpu.

Sorry bad English. I have rooted Desire + DeFrost and battery life is about 10-12 hour.
Chances are that anyone who is getting really bad battery life has a rogue app installed.
FWIW, I installed the Sky News app yesterday, and found, via Spare Parts, that it was stopping the phone from sleeping and creaming my battery life. I installed it, and things went back to normal.

Dave
how to find which software etc is gulping the most battery?
There are two ways of doing this. The quickest is to open your dialer, and dial the following; *#*#4636#*#*
This code will open up a hidden menu. Select 'battery history'.
From here you can see what aspects of your phone are using which resources from selecting from the drop-down menu. Try looking at 'partial wake usage'. This will show up any rogue apps that are doing the phone from going to sleep. In fact, check them all out.
The second way is to download an app called 'spare parts' which gives you access to this hidden menu without using the dialer.
Hope this reveals the culprit!

you are doing something very wrong if that is the case.
15h1m and i'm on 73%.
29 hours. 41%
I'm relatively new to android but my last two windows mobile based devices have had much longer battery life if I set the network mode to GSM only. Would this be the same for the desire or would it be better on WCDMA only?
GSM will only give you 2g bandwidth, but yes the battery will last longer. CDMA will give you 3g and HSDPA. I leave mine on this and get 36 hours typically.

The biggest issue with doing this is that you won't get simultaneous voice and data over the cellular network. If some tries to call you whilst your phone is syncing (and thus actively using data), the call will go straight to voicemail.
Regards,
Dave
2d 18h and on 16% with mobile internet on, sync on etc. But my usage is fairly low, about 20 mins voice, 10 texts approx, 20 mins 3G web browsing and about 10 mins of gaming.
On heavy use, it will last at least 24hrs - not bad, though I use setcpu to adjust max clock speed to about 700mhz and I have not notice any difference in terms of slow down.
Also I am not using any task killers apps.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I use Timeriffic to automatically turn on airplane mode at night every night and off in the morning.

That not happen on my phone, FORTUNALLY!!! If my phone is on 2g and have the internet connection active and some tries to call me, the internet connection will stopped and i can get the call..Maybe depends on the operator? (anyway my desire is unbranded with stock froyo 2.2)

Yes - I probably should've mentioned that this is carrier dependent, but most carriers don't seem to be implement it.

WiFi sleep on screen off

As subject, my problem is about WiFi sleep.
When I'm downloading something through WiFi and screen goes off, my download always fails.I have tried with different Rom but the result is the same.
I have checked that WiFi policy is set on never.
Now I have the latest version of nextsense Rom.
Any suggestion?
Thanks
Mattia

Ok thanks man!I have just downloaded market version and a have found the setting and now all works perfectly!!!!
Thanks man!
But just I'm curious, this is a Rom bug or what?in official no rotted Rom this thing works?
sent from my Nokia 3300
or alternatively, Settings -> Wireless -> wifi settings -> (press menu button) -> advanced -> wifi sleep policy.
Just curious, does keeping the Wifi always on will stop the phone from switching to mobile data when Wifi is out of range?!

No. If the WiFi doesn't have a valid active connection to an AP, the mobile data connection will be used. You can also use an app like Y5 to switch off the WiFi when you are not in the vicinity of a recognized network (one that you've setup the connections for previously) - this will save you power.
Nothing works.yesterday I have tested for few time and apparently all worked but now with a new test after one or two minutes of screen off download fails!the WiFi policy is on never in settings and spare parts too....:-(
Any idea?

I'm using WiFi Status for this, the same Paul O'Brien includes in his MCR ROMs. The app indicates when the WiFi is on, but not connected, by an icon in the notification bar. Clicking the actual notification will, you guessed it, simply shut down the WiFi

The issue is the power management mode used by the wifi chip when the phone is in standby, however when the phone is charging it uses a less aggressive power management mode for wifi.
The above thread has a modified wifi module for HTC Sense based froyo roms so the phone uses the less-aggressive power management mode for wifi always. The difference in battery usage is negligable. It requires root to use it. It's also part of Pinky's HTC Sense rom.

battery drain with wifi

hi,
my gnote2 is new and I have a (big) issue with it.
I'm running android 4,1,1 no specific apps (all stock).
With 3g enable everything is ok but with wifi there isa big battery drain. I read that it could be a router issue so I tried to change my network number I switched from 10 to 1. It fixed the problem !!! BUT unfortunately I switched of the wifi last night and switch it on this morning ... the battery drain re start like before.
Is there a way to solve this big issue ==,
thanks for your help

thanks for your answer yerebakan but it is already the case
Maybe you must configure your router from factory mode and then in your phone forget old router name. try!

I tried also. I have even changed my router. The only things which worked is to change the chanel frequency. But lost the benefit each time I shut of/restart wifi on the note.

Are you rooted? If yes download BBS, connect to your wifi and leave the phone on stand by for 30 minutes then check for kernel wakelocks. You will probablyvfind that your phone does not go into deep sleep because of wlan_rx_wake. That has to do with dhcp
Swyped from another galaxy
How much battery drain are we talking about? 1%/hour? 5%/hour?

in fact the battery drain is x3 if I compare to 3g, each time I switch on wifi I can clearly see a big drop on the battery curve

BetterBatteryStats says my wifi is running 100% of the time?

The ROM I'm on is ParanoidAndroid 3.99-RC2 on an AT&T Galaxy S3. I've been having battery problems for awhile on this phone, but after upgrading to this, it has just gotten much worse. I take a look at BetterBatteryStats and it says my wifi is running all the time. I don't have wifi on most of the time, and I've reset the phone and it is still occurring.

For wlan_rx_wake, the research was saying this error is triggered by settings and/or background activity on 1 or more particular wlans you connect on (not by anything on your phone). Different posters saw it draining their battery on their school, work or home wifi networks accordingly.
I took 2 approaches: Since it was my home network, I disabled the UPnP service on my main router. I also separately configured a static IP (one that is outside the range of automatic addresses) on my phone for the home wifi connection using the "Modify network config" command available by long pressing an SSID in the list on Wifi settings. It worked. 1.4% / hour overnight drain is restored. (It had risen to 4%).
Both approaches isolate the phone from some types of network broadcast activity that triggers excessive wake time.
For me, seems working this operation
Go to WiFi settings-> Advanced-> Uncheck "Scanning always available"

Which ROM is best if you use your phone mainly as Hotspot?

I am very annoyed now because I can't find a satisfying ROM. I have tried AEX Android v8.1, Jaguar Android v8.1, AEX Android v9.0 and maybe couple. They all seems good but not so good with standby mobile network. A couple of months ago I switched to AEX Android v9.0 from 8.1 but standby mobile network was very quickly draining the battery. So I flashed Jaguar. A couple of days ago I flashed 9.0 AEX again in hope the issue was fixed but the issue still exists. More than 50% of the battery is consumed due to mobile network standby. [Please see the attachment]
Most of the time my Mobile Hotspot and Data is turned on, because I use it to connect to my Computer. Is there any ROM you guys have used which is best in your opinion for:
Battery friendly: This is my main concern. I need a ROM which is best for the purpose of using my device as hotspot. So I have to enable mobile data and hotspot most of the time. My issue with current ROM is addressed above (tldr; they are bad with standby mobile network battery backup).
Best Internet speed : I use Jio. I don't know why internet sometimes keeps dropping with all the ROMS I have used. I have to restart the sim to get high speed again. So maybe a rom which fixed this issue for you.
Android Pie: Preferably based on Android Pie. 7/8/8.1 is okay too, I guess. This is not my main concern.
I believe many people use their phone as hotspot most of the time like me. I and they would thank you if you will help me decide this. TIA :good:!
Try miui 10 nougat. It doesn't have network drain and have very less standby drain
