As subject, my problem is about WiFi sleep.
When I'm downloading something through WiFi and screen goes off, my download always fails.I have tried with different Rom but the result is the same.
I have checked that WiFi policy is set on never.
Now I have the latest version of nextsense Rom.
Any suggestion?
Thanks

Ok thanks man!I have just downloaded market version and a have found the setting and now all works perfectly!!!!
Thanks man!
But just I'm curious, this is a Rom bug or what?in official no rotted Rom this thing works?

or alternatively, Settings -> Wireless -> wifi settings -> (press menu button) -> advanced -> wifi sleep policy.
Just curious, does keeping the Wifi always on will stop the phone from switching to mobile data when Wifi is out of range?!

No. If the WiFi doesn't have a valid active connection to an AP, the mobile data connection will be used. You can also use an app like Y5 to switch off the WiFi when you are not in the vicinity of a recognized network (one that you've setup the connections for previously) - this will save you power.
Nothing works.yesterday I have tested for few time and apparently all worked but now with a new test after one or two minutes of screen off download fails!the WiFi policy is on never in settings and spare parts too....:-(
Any idea?

I'm using WiFi Status for this, the same Paul O'Brien includes in his MCR ROMs. The app indicates when the WiFi is on, but not connected, by an icon in the notification bar. Clicking the actual notification will, you guessed it, simply shut down the WiFi

The issue is the power management mode used by the wifi chip when the phone is in standby, however when the phone is charging it uses a less aggressive power management mode for wifi.
The above thread has a modified wifi module for HTC Sense based froyo roms so the phone uses the less-aggressive power management mode for wifi always. The difference in battery usage is negligable. It requires root to use it. It's also part of Pinky's HTC Sense rom.

I have tried to flash the file on my LeeDroid 2.0A Rom but the problem remains.
I have checked my kernel version and it's correct.
At afternoon i'll flash the newest AuraxTSense v7.5.2 Rom.You have tested your mod on it?
I hope will work....

Hi guys,
I've searched the whole forum but I couldn't find any other thread about my problem.
When I connect my HOX to WiIF (Sitecom WL-370 - 300N Gigabit Dualband Router) everything works fine at first, but after a few minutes (5, or sometimes 15 minutes) I've got no Internet anymore but I'm still connected. Also WiFI Analyzer still detects the network. I've this problem both on 2.4 GHz as on 5 GHz. I've also tried switching channels.
The strange thing is, I can still receive a WhatsApp message but I can't send any, also I can't browse on the Internet or things like that.
After turning my WiFi off and on it works fine again for the few minutes..
Best Wi-Fi performance is turned on and the other devices at home haven't got this problem.
Anyone having the same problem or knows a solution?
I've got the same problem and it seems to be totally random. What i noticed is that my Google Play Store always stops working (no connection) shortly after i turned on the phone (~10 minutes). Switching Wifi off and on again doesn't seem to change it, i need to restart my HOX to get it working again while other apps connect just fine after turning Wifi off and on again.
Edit: Stock Vodafone ROM (1.28.161.9)
I have the exact same issue and i went through every setting in my router trying to fix this.
I would turn on my WIFI, connect to my home network, and start downloading. After a few minutes it'll either stop (the dl percentage not change) and then if i reload the market/youtube/browser or any app that users the net, it'll say no connection.
The weird thing about this is that it LOOKS like i am connected to wifi (in the notification bar).
This may be a separate issue, but i tried to turn it off and then on again to get around the issue. This time around i would try to connect to my home wifi and it'll just say 'Saved' and then the network would go out of range.
I am running Leedroids rom.
I might have found a solution:
Under Settings -> Wifi -> Menu -> Extended there is an option for Wifi Power Saving. After unchecking it all my connectivity problems are gone.
May be worth trying a static IP configuration, if you know enough about ip4 to do it. I've seen problems with android Wi-Fi since version 2.2 - if your router issues an indefinite dhcp lease, it can show exactly the symptoms you describe. Only a possibility but worth a try.

I have the exact same issue - the wireless shows connected yet you cannot browse the Internet etc. I have also tried every setting on the Wireless AP without any success. Even tried static IP and that does not fix it either. Whilst other devices in the house are ok...
The weirdest thing is though it does not happen everywhere i.e. at other places like work (where at least the same type of AP is in use) or at my brothers' house (where he has a Linksys). This is pretty much the only thing that bugs me with the HTC - the only workaround I have found is to make sure that WiFi is kept on only at times when plugged in - this doesn't actually fix the issue but it does mean that the phone will disconnect the WiFi and get a new connection next time it wakes up - this way I find I get the problem much less than when I have it set to Always.

Yeah, exactly, I've got the same problem. At school I've got no problems with the WiFi. I already send a message to HTC and I'm waiting on there answer.
I have kinda the same issue.
Using a HOX and at work I'm connected to Wifi and I can browse. At my house I can connect to the wifi, my IP is right that I'm getting from DHCP (I even tried putting in a static IP) but I can't browse
I also have a HTC Sensation, same setup and it works. The sensation can browse at work and at my house.
Why would this be?
Tried all sorts of solutions, but the only one that works is disabling the N-band and only leave B and G. This means that your laptop won't connect with the faster N, but at least the HOX works (what's more important )
Well I tried broadcasting a separate SSID on the b/g interface only for the exclusive use for the hox but that hasn't made any difference...my workaround is to have tunein radio in the background streaming whilst surfing...if I get bored of that solution my next workaround will be to trade the hox for an s3 as much as I despise TW...

I tried all the bands "B, G, N" and nothing works. So tired of this crap. Think I might just get a S3

I was thinking to do the same but there is no chance in hell of me doing that after I compared my HOX with a display model at the phone shop. Pentile screen vs LCD on the HOX? HOX = Sharper and better whites - the white on the S3 is bluish and so obvious. Another thing also I noticed is that the aggressive auto brightness on the S3 is too much - you won't tolerate it and you will likely be forced to manually adjust all the time. That plus reading that the S3 goes through the battery like no mans business when on standby unless you turn off all the features and put it in power save mode (might as well buy a Nokia then) at least the HOX uses the Ninja core and actually does save your battery in standby mode.
Anyway - the reason I replied is that I found a workaround (note, workaround does not mean a fix) - I put in a wifi extender in an area where I tend to spent most of my time with the HOX - this has not fixed the problem per se but rather seems to have elevated it somewhat. Basically now if the HOX drops from the main offending AP it automatically gets hooked up on to the extender and carries on working! I say this because (and I saw this only twice so far) I realised that when the phones Internet connection stops and you load a new page it timed out and get page cannot be found but when I hit refresh it works again you do notice a 3-4 second lag (this never happened before the extender came into play). Not sure if anyone else has tried this but I got a Linksys/Cisco extender for £69 and so far at least it has given me a workaround. Of course your mileage may vary...so don't splash out on an extender and come and blame me if it doesn't work for anyone here...
I am also having this issue with my HOX has anyone found a fix for this?
i have tried everything listed and nothing works.
its weird though because i have NO issues on my home network, but my network in my apartment here and at work network i get this issue
!!
bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbuuuuuummp any fixes??? this sucks !!!!
What versions of android you guys have? Stock, sense, vanilla android, ics, jelly bean? Because I didn't encounter this problem when running stock or ics custom roms. After I updated hboot to 1.31 and tried different jelly bean sense roms it appeared. I also tried some stock android roms (ice cold jelly and liquid smooth) and wifi seemed to work fine. So is this sense problem only?

Hey all. I have a mate who bought a HTC Desire Z (S-OFF,already rooted, running CWM at the time, and an updated ROM), and I have just about tried everything to get the GPS to work. I have flashed the latest TMoUS G2 radio/rcdata (26.13.04.19), wiped the EFS, put the Andromadus GPS fix on there, installed Andromadus Mimicry ROM – version 1.5.0, installed the Engineering HBOOT, reinstalled the ROM, and still the stupid GPS still won't lock onto a single satellite. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance
Do you have a data plan or/and a wifi connection, with your DZ?
The A-GPS is much more quick to fix in this case, otherwise it can take several minutes...

I currently have no SIM for the phone, but I am using my home wifi for net connection. I left the phone out about 10 minutes, but it still is searching for a GPS signal.
You've probably tried that already, but still...
Install "GPS Status" app from store, it' free. Disable data connection. Power down the phone and take battery out. Next get into open area, put battery back in and power it on. Then launch GPS Status and let it work for some time, may take a while - 10 to 20 minutes. There is an option in this app settings to keep screen on, use that.
And make note of what happens on the screen, after some time green points should start appearing, those are sattelites.
If that won't work - try again with data connection on.
I've seen a few similar threads to the one I'm about to make. I've tried different suggestions which I will post here. Yet, none of them seems to work and I'm curious to see if anyone of you has a fix for my problem. My phone is an unbranded international HOX using the 9.7.2 ARHD rom by Mike1986. Here we go:
Problem
While being on WIFI my push notifications aren't coming through in time. There's a delay from anywhere between a few minutes up to as much as 40+ minutes. The phone doesn't have this issue being on the mobile data network. I'm also not 100% sure if the delay is still there when I'm on an different router. Even when I turn on the screen again, the messages seem to come in randomly.
Settings
WIFI best performance enabled
Static IP by router
WIFI sleep policy: Wifi always on
Tried suggestions
Wakelock: One thread described using an app called REGPON keep-alive, which installs a wakelock onto the phone to keep the data connection alive. This app did not do the trick. It only drained my battery and the messages still didn't come through.
Wifi performance: Set the phone to maximum wifi performance. This seemed to work for a while but ended up not working proper either
Kernel: Try a different kernel was one suggestion. I've switched from Stock to Faux123 010 kernel. This didn't change anything about the WIFI problem.
Static IP + Portforwarding + Disabling router Firewall: I've tried both port forwarding on port 5228 and even the range 5224-5228. I've also tried setting up triggered ranges. Maybe I'm doing something wrong on this part though. The router firewall is disabled and it should no longer block anonymous WAN packages.
Disable SmartSync: With the Suite Tools that are included in Mike1986's rom I've disabled Smartsync. No results as far as the wifi problem goes.
Probing app: I've tried an app that supposedly probes my router at least every minute in order to keep the connection alive.
Switching between b/g/n network: Didn't make a difference. The signal quality of the router is also good.
The only thing that did work for extended periods of time was using this remote control app that allows me to type through my PC keyboard, where the text ended up on the phone. I've also got an app installed to test push notifications. It's capable of making a log. Maybe that'll give you guys more information.
Right now I'm not sure if it's an issue with the HOX or if my router somehow stops the traffic. I don't recall having this problem on my HTC Desire. Does anyone have anymore tips?
Thanks,
Zendio
No problem with Gmail push notification on Stock 2.17.401.2.
Yesterday I still was on ARHD 9.7.2, also there I never noticed any delay.
Edit: this complies to various wifi networks (@home, @office, @parents etc.)

I have tried different solutions to no avail.
Would love to hear something on this topic !!
Also I should note, I don't have any kind of task killer installed.
In general use WIFI feels really fluid and responsive. I really have no idea what could cause these problems.

I hope so. My One S is experiencing the same thing. I've tried everything above. No luck. Some stuff is fairly critical that I get it as soon as it comes in. I might try getting ahold of a Nexus 4 and do some testing with its wifi, just to make sure it isn't a general Android problem.
What router do you have? My issue was any android device in the house. Turned out it was my router, I put a custom firmware on it and all my trouble have gone away. My friend has the WiFi issue on a virgin media superhub.

I have an Asus RT-N66U. Funny you should suggest that. I'd planned to throw Tomato on it tonight and see how that works out. I did some tests at my folks' and their router had the same results. It's some cheap Netgear thing. Not sure of the model at the mo. I'll post back with results. If not tonight, tomorrow some time.
No go
Well that was unsuccessful. Actually it slowed things down. With the default firmware I get notifications from the instant I press power to wake up my phone. With Tomato there was a second or so before I got them.
Time to try DD-WRT tonight to see if that does the same thing.
I have an rt-n56u so the older version of yours and I'm running the Asus wrt that is being made, its fixed all my problems and is awesome tbh.

Set Beacon mode power safe (BMPS) to 0 in WiFi ???.ini config file should resolve this problem.
Such ???.ini config file usually placed under /system/etc/wifi or /system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima/
I have been having this problem for about the last 3 days where I lose the downstream from my wifi after the screen turns off. The wifi is still connected and blue, and within the wifi bars there are the two grey arrows for up and down. The up arrow still flashes meaning the wifi upload is still connected, but the download arrow no longer shows. I'm able to regain the wifi downstream by toggling wifi off and then back on. As long as I don't let my phone go into sleep then I maintain wifi connectivity, but as soon as it goes into sleep I will have to toggle wfi to regain full connection again.
I'm running AOKP JB build 1 with franco kernel nightly 283. I haven't made any recent changes to my router or wifi settings. It seems to have just started happening in the last 2-3 days. My first guess is that there were some wifi issues with recent Google wifi drivers that were included in the franco kernel. Apparently the more recent nightlies reverted the wifi drivers to avoid the problems, but maybe I still have the old drivers despite running a more recent build? Like the got stuck or something on the drivers with problems. I only suggest this because I was reading around in other threads were someone mentioned if you flashed a kernel with new drivers and then another kernel with the old drivers, the only way to actually revert the drivers is to wipe and flash a fresh ROM.
However, if anyone is aware of any other possible solutions then I'm open to suggestions. Oh yeah, before it's mentioned I also have wifi set to always on, and the router is running WPA2 (AES) and the phone has a static IP. I realize this is most likely a kernel problem since that's really all that's changed in the last few days (flashing new nightlies) but I'm unable to post in the development threads and reading through his thread, no one else seems to be having this problem
If you think it could be kernel related, why not flash a stable Franco release?
You could also just upgrade to aokp build 4 then see if wifi is properly, then flash the kernel, there might be your answer.

I've tried reverting to an older nightly, or even to the stable Milestone 5 but with no affect. That's why I'm wondering if it's possible once the updated wifi drivers are flashed, even flashing a different Kernel with the older drivers won't overwrite the drivers since they aren't the most up-to-date.
As far as flashing the newest build of AOKP, I was planning on doing that this weekend to see if it helps. But until then I was hoping someone here may have some answers, because even flashing a new ROM doesn't guarantee a fix.
I'm using nightly 282 of the French Revolution HD 6.1.0 +, and have not had this problem. I was having this problem one day that, with the CM10 Nightly. But I decided as follows:
Settings / Wifi / Advanced / Keep Wifi during inactivity.
Test to see ae of the right.
Settings > WiFi > Menu(the 3 dots) > Advance > Keep WiFi on during sleep > profit
Franco setting
I think your problem is releated to Wifi Driver, of couse wifi driver goes to battery safe mode when you screenoff
It's not releated to your router, for simple reason this is phone problem
It's can be ( mach do it first ) settings, upto android 4x series wifi have wifi autodisconnect on screenoff ( using data instead or nothing ), theorically data cause less battery drain than wifi, this is the sense of this value, and it's to prefer instead juice defender or another non-system app.
You can always disable wifi_pm on franco using
Code:
echo 0 > /sys/module/bcmdhd/parameters/wifi_pm
This dont allow to wifi driver screenoff modes ( less wireless performance -> less battery usage ) but increase battery drain from wireless on screenoff

There is a setting to auto switch to your data connection if the wi-fi signal is not strong / reliable that you can turn off. Try that.
this is a pretty serious issue that doesnt seem to be happening to many people.. its killing me right now it just dissconnects with no warning.. and it seems not many people are actually experiencing this.. im calling tmobile tomorrow to get a replacement to try and see if it is ok or not but im pretty pissed to get a refurbished unit for a phone i just a montha go

i wonder if this is a samsung thing or a T-Mobile thing? We've had Galaxy S3, S4, SII, Note 1. the only one that is "rock solid" is the Note 1 [Tmo version running mod'd stock rom, not JB].
We were able to get the S3 "much improved" but still has a relatively weak ability to maintain signal across multiple AP's or especially with Bridged WIFI AP's [it will "hunt" between physical devices and fail to deliver].
I would suggest you lookup any one of MANY threads on the topic with the S3 especially as there were people that worked hard at it on that one - lots of those deployed in the wild and a huge number had that issue.
turn off scanning.
turn off power management for the WIFI radio.
i wish there was a mod to turn off the network but that would probably kill the "calling" feature altogether. if it has a strong signal on the cell network it ain't going to do wifi calling period.
Data connection has nothing to do with WIFI calling. I use the note 1 a lot and rarely turn 'on' data. its happy on wifi no matter what.

Ya know I think it could be rom related, it seems like with all the international roms the wifi is great and I don't even have to turn off the power saving mode and never drop the wifi connection. With all the MI7 built roms it seems to drop wifi and have troubles. IDK maybe its just a fluke :fingers-crossed:
FWIW I had the same issue until I updated the firmware on my router.

You tried both options?
First
1. Navigate to System Settings
2. Connections > WiFi
3. Menu > Advanced
4. Uncheck "Allows Allow Scanning" and "Auto Network Switch"
Second
1. Dial *#0011#
2, Menu > WiFi
3. Power Saving Off
(Kudos to QuickVic30, I hadn't seen this before)
After doing both, you're still getting the problem?
if you have adblock plus definitely this is the problem, i had it for a while and noticed affecting my wifi. uninstalled issues gone! replaced it with adaway
I also had huge problems making WiFi calls, my router had auto update off, once I updated the router I have ZERO issues, so updating router firmware absolutely works for some people and it's relatively easy to do at least with home router. On the other hand when I switched WiFi power saving to OFF as suggested in other posts, it did absolutely nothing, except increased drain on my battery. I had 20% battery drain overnight (about 7 hrs) and my phone would go dead in less than 1.5 days even without being used. After I changed that setting back, now my battery drains 3% over night and lasts me 2 days with moderate use and has still 60% power left. I do realize different people may have different issues and therefore different fixes, but updating firmware of your router does work in many cases, no question about it and the old firmware didn't affect at all my 2 laptops, couple tablets and 2 Galaxy S3, only Note3 had the issue, so it is hard to believe, but it WORKS. And the power drain that I suspect switching "wifi power save" to off created for me, is beyond reasonable, so maybe people should be aware of it as well.

Open up the dialer and dial *#0011#, then hit the hard menu button on the phone, choose wifi, turn off wifi power saving mode. This has been the fix for many of us for the time being.

My Verizon note 3 that I switched over to t-mobile over a year ago, suddenly started to drop all wifi connections. After a brief connection it rescans then drops. I read your thread and when I dial *#0011# , im assuming you mean "call" there is no menu for wifi. What is the dialer? The phone keypad? Any help is greatly appreciated.
