Signal fluxuation - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

Been dealing with tmo tech support about a month and a half now and wanted to get other feedback.
Having a real problem with LTE dropping which causes other issues such as data slow, no sound (from me) on call and long time to dial (upwards of a minute). Tried all troubleshoot steps. Also tested on S6, Note5, and of course my S6 Edge+.
Narrowed problem to be different type towers that I'm in the middle of. Have 2 4G LTE towers within a couple of miles and 2 2g towers same distance (this is my work location). So problem seems to be that the phone is registering the 2g signal being the better one if I'm in one part of the building (single story restaurant) then I move to another part of the building the LTE signal becomes better. The phone constantly is front to switch back and forth.
Had a note3 at same location and never saw this problem.
Anyone else noticing this "signal fluxuation?"

Have you tried forcing LTE?

Thank you. That seemed to work. I'm now seeing it drop to one bar of 4G LTE whereas before it wild have switched on me. One bar of 4G LTE is still better than 5 bars of 2g.

Hello,
This is my first day with galaxy nexus and i am getting 1 signal bar in my room, my iphone 4s has full signal bars also for the galaxy s2, i tried many radios with many roms and compilations of kernels in the last 5 hours.

Hi there,
I suppose the iPhone just has a better signal.
I tried 5 different radios and 3 ROMs, but I can't get ANY signal in my flat.
Signal is bad where I live, but with the iPhone I had at least 1 bar at several spots and 2-3 at my window...
with the Galaxy Nexus I can't get any signal anywhere.
If anyone has a solution tho, I would love to know ... I can't even write a SMS
Edit: To make it strange, I have an AWESOME signal with the SGN at university tho, even better than with the iPhone... same provider, same contract, same number, just different phone

but the galaxy s2 is giving a full signal though
Well I don't have any other phone but iPhone 4 and GNex to test it out ... I just really hope it's a software related issue and not a hardware one... calling is not the problem, I have a normal phone ... but it is really annoying to not be able to send and receive SMS :/
Right now I'm just flashing every new radio that comes out and hope that issue will be resolved ... and I certainly hope someone will pop into this thread with a solution

You could try to change the baseband - try xkk6, or ugkk7 (not sure about the exact names, but the names shouldn't be too off) go to settings > about phone, and post your baseband version here

Your with 3 what did you expect? If you have picked up bars with a s2 on 3 aswell and the iPhone (dual antenna) and remember s2 has UMA . Give 3 a call and get them to run a diagnostic. Remember 3 don't have 2g and 3g has less penetration through buildings then 2g does .maybe a change in networks if your not in contract (hint hint nudge nudge giff gaff )

I'm with giffgaff and I'm having a very similar experience to the OP. In my flat the phone has a very weak signal strength and drops the network every once in a while during the evening which then seems to cause sms being sent to me not to arrive until I either send one myself or toggle airplane mode on and of - very annoying. If I use my old HTC Wildfire then I don't suffer this problem.
When I am in my office the phone is fine - the walls in my office are much thicker than the ones in my home and it's a much more built up area.

Are you getting a replacement GN or switching to a different phone? I'd be interested to hear if you have an improved experience with a replacement nexus.

i don't think getting another GN will solve the problem so am going to another phone, i don't know what to choose honestly, maybe iphone 4s/4 or htc device.

There is evidence of people having faulty hardware and getting a new GN resolved their issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1387263&page=13
There are a few threads on here that have had a similar outcome.
A have noticed that my signal in my house is a bit hit and miss, don't know if its vodafones signal going down.
I wouldn't get the 4s, waste of time. Grab one of the new htcs possibly the one x .
Saying everything mobile networks never say they can provide signal in houses, only outdoors

Hey, the GPS works just fine for me, it's just the signal...
As said, tried about 5 different radios / basebands...
I don't have any signal loss once I get signal (outside my village that is), GPS works like a charm (I even get a bit of GPS in my flat! Didn't have that with my iPhone)
I tried about everything, to no avail...
Well, I don't want to go the way thegost4u goes... I love the GNex, it's the perfect phone for me ... if there wouldn't be the signal issue :/

NEVERMIND!
......I just figured it out
The problem is actually my cellphone CASE (leather and plastic)
It appears, that my signal here is THAT BAD, that I get absolutely no signal when I have it in the case, without the case and the KRKK7, I get 2 bars on my couch, which is equal / better than the iPhone....(usually had 1 bar there)
@OP: Do you use any case? If so, try taking it off!
Instant fix for me...I can't believe I havn't thought about that earlier...*facepalms*

Next Edit:
With the UGLA4 I get 3(!!) signal bars... I NEVER had that much with any phone!
This is incredible, this case killed ANY signal for me....
The signal bars don't meant jack ****. Really, they don't mean anything. You can't compare them except to the exact same phone running the exact same OS with the exact same version.
For an accurate measurement of signal strength go to Settings -> About -> Status and see the signal strength there measured in dBm. The higher the number the better (negative and logarithmic, so -100 is worse than -70 - several orders of a magnitude worse). This way you can check the actual signal strength.
Done that to test it, actually my bars are pretty accurate
With case I'm stuck at -111 ... no signal at all
KRKK7 gave me about -103 on my table, UGLA4 gives me -101
I just did a phone call while sitting on my couch, I'm so excited xD
3 UK isn't best known for there service (there ranked last) case in point my GN on giffgaff (o2 signal) gets a higher download speed than the wifi in my halls (unlimited bandwidth ftw). But my flat mates iPhone 4 drops signal constantly in fact the is a dead spot in her room.
Nothing wrong with the GSM radio for me. LTE had more issues from what I've read
The GSM Galaxy Nexus seems to have pretty much the same reception as my Nexus One for me based on what I remember.
If you still have issues you might want to try the radios for different regions and the ones for Asian versions of the phone that has a different model number.

Wind Mobile Network speed

I would like to find what is the usual network speed for Wind Mobile in Canada.
Currently I am seeing 3 MB download and 90-114 KB upload in North York, ON, using T769UVLH5 or T989DTLLE4 radios.
Anyone got better throughput?
Same speeds at Cooksville, ON, with LE4, LI1, LH1.
Download Network signal info app. It tells you what maximum speeds your tower can give you. Mines always at 7.2mbps where as this phone is capable of 42mbps i suppose.
When I was on Wind in Vancouver, there were a couple of spots I would get 5. But 2-3 was usual on different phones.
Xda T989
---------- Post added at 08:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:15 AM ----------
They are supposed to be rolling out speed upgrades to their towers next year.
Xda T989
Are the speed upgrades announced somewhere?

Any app to show what network one is on?

I'm looking for an app that will tell me what kind of network I'm on (3G, 4G, LTE), etc. Also, if it picks up an LTE network, I need to know what band it's on, or at least the frequency.
Anything out there that will do this, especially regarding the LTE part?

The Nexus 4 only has LTE Band 4, so that narrows down the options. Why can't you just look at the signal icon? If it's E, you're on 2G, if it's H, you're on 3G, H+ for 3.5/HSPA. I don't know what LTE icon is used, but I'm sure it's distinctive.
From what I've read, the N4 doesn't have an H+ icon, only H. I just wanted to see if there was an app that would scan the available LTE network here and tell me what frequency it's using, so I'll know whether or not to waste my time doing the LTE hack.
The N4 does have an H+ icon. I get it often, when I'm not connected to T-Mobiles LTE network. When connected to LTE, it'll say 4G.
Weird. I can look at the status of my network in settings and see HSPA+ 15, yet look up in the notification area and only see an H. I'm sure it's because I am somewhat new here, but you're the first person that has said their N4 has the H+ icon. I believe you, just not the response I thought I'd get.
So, any idea about an app?
there's no way for your phone's radio to scan for LTE without having LTE enabled. check out http://www.tmonews.com/ for a listing of cities that have 4G

That might be why you don't have H+. AT&T probably does theirs different.
I use this app.

Works like s charm and will show simple network descriptions like 3G or HSPA.

I tried TMO prepaid, but if you're outside of a TMO area, you lose all data. Had to go with AT&T or an AT&T mvno.
I own nexus 7 & using 2G Sim & 2G connection then why its showing me H ??

depends. what are your speeds? if they are above 150kbps, it's likely you're on 3G/HSPA networks

Stock N4 does not have a H+ icon. It will be shown only on a custom ROM such as PA or CM as they have added it.
A sure shot way of knowing your current data connection is Settings > About phone > Status and check Mobile Network Type field.

Questions about moving to AT&T

Hey everyone,
I was just gifted a Verizon M9 with s-off. It's currently running Lineage OS and TWRP. I don't have Verizon service myself, and I tried to throw my wife's AT&T nano sim in there (I have a micro sim and don't want to cut it unless I know it's going to work). For a few seconds I got fast H+ network access, before the data signal cut out. I've read online that the Verizon M9 should be GSM sim unlocked out of the box. I tried several APN's, but none of them brought back the data connection.
Am I missing a step? Is this not something that can be done? Is this an issue since she has a real AT&T sim, but it won't be an issue if I cut down my black wireless sim?
Well, my new Black Wireless sim came in and it worked just fine. Now I'm off to see if I can unlock some LTE bands.
Were you able to get AT&T LTE to work on the Verizon version? I was curious for a friend who might grab this phone and switch Straight Talk networks later.
I'm still working on that. I band unlocked the phone and my phone will connect to AT&T LTE for 1-5 minutes, then it loses all signal until I manually switch it to GSM again. I feel like the issue is at Black Wireless, but they don't want to add my IMEI to their database since it's a Verizon phone.
I also have a Verizon HTC One M9 and am using it on Cricket (which is owned and operated by AT&T). I'm able to keep a signal. H+ most of the time. If I manually reset the network, then do a network search then select Cricket, the signal will reset to 4G LTE for a few hours or until I get a call. After the call it gets stuck on H+.
I'm not rooted and s-off....yet.
Great phone though. If I didn't have Cricket I'd just settle for H+ all the time.
Hopefully this thread will pick up and we'll get some help staying locked into LTE
---------- Post added at 07:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:29 PM ----------
I did see a thread around here with a tutorial on how to edit the bands in the phone and even add more bands. But you have to be rooted.
I'm going to try it when I get the spare $25 for the Sunshine app.
From my experience tearing down my VZW M9, I think that the VZW version has a completely different antenna. When I replaced my USB port, I noticed the VZW version only has one antenna connector going to the USB connector, where the GSM versions you see in tear down videos have two.

There was a thread where someone mentioned to edit some folders in setup, I think, and relabel Verizon to whatever GSM you're switching to.
But I can't find it.

Don’t rely too much on the signal bars as they are often misleading. Most OEM’s these days Fake Signal Bars by having a different Algorithm from Stock Android. You need to monitor the actual signal strength in dBm before you can jump on a conclusion. Check the actual signal strength on all these phones by going in to Settings >> About >> Network.

Same problem I also feel, just buy A50 before 2 days and I realise network issues. Only 1 or 2 bars shows in low signal area and also not showing full bars in strong single area. Samsung cheated thousand of people. Same on samsung.
